I don't consider myself an expert, but I've had my share of pasties over the years and I thought the one I tried from here was among the best I've had.

Great pasties and other baked goods. Popped in to St Austell to pick up some authentic Cornish pasties. Yummy! Really fresh and delicious.

Having just spent a week in Cornwall sampling pasties every day, MB’s traditional offering won the whole shooting match. Special mention to the steak and Stilton which might well be the best pasty I’ve ever had.

Went for lunch on a wet day in St. Austell. Lovely tea room upstairs and great selection. We both choose the mushroom quiche that was served with a small salad. It was the most tastiest snack we have had in Cornwall.

Had lunch here, it was busy, staff not overly friendly. Great choice for meat eaters, not so good for veggies. Great deals on the big baps, but none of the great deals were veggie.

Stopped in St Austell for a snack while on our way back from the Eden Project. Admittedly it was late in the afternoon, and the place couldn't have been far from closing but we like to try local cafes when we can instead of the samey multinational concerns which have their place. the pastries, cakes and pasties on the counter looked inviting so we decided to give the café upstairs a try. It was in the middle of having a makeover with wet paint notices everywhere and a guy clearing up his materials, so it was watch that coat! Perhaps that's why there was nobody there? Anyway, we both had hot homemade mince pies and clotted cream with tea. Service was quick, and the pies were lovely. We did however feel a little exposed and a member of staff was counting the till which rightly or wrongly gave us the impression we were holding them up! By the time we went back downstairs the display had almost been cleared. I did say we were there quite late! Wouldn't deter me from trying the palce again but I'd go earlier next time!

Pasties are generally very good but can vary a bit in quality on odd occassions, the rest of their wares are very good, the only negative comment is that in my opinion their large pasty is medium and their medium pasty is small compared to other pasty establishments. but worth a try.

Cafe was simple looking with a basic menu. I hoped to have a cheese and onion pasty but was told the pastry wasn’t vegetarian. Disappointed, I opted for a veggie sausage roll. I asked for it hot with a salad. It came lukewarm alone on a plate. I asked for it to be reheated (which they did) and for the salad. I was told I could pay extra for salad on the side. I agreed and it was a tiny garnish that appeared. It seemed ridiculous that we should pay for such a small bit of garnish. Would not return.

Came here for a bite to eat before doing the brewery tour at St Austell brewery Nd was pleasantly surprised. Partner had a cheese and ham toastie and I had a large pasty. Pasty was lovely! The only thing which was a small let down was that Apple juice was out of a carton not a local one.

Above this bakery is quite a good local cafe - modest. quiet and totally non-touristy. We stopped in for lunch and tucked into some better-than-average Cornish pasties (steak and Stilton, and cheese and onion) and the coffee was better than we expected, too. Reasonably priced.

Pleasant, polite team ~ efficient in approach.Food. ✍Salty rich ~ traditional Cornish pasties have a good level of premium ingredients.I purchased a selection of pasties including cheese, this was equally salty...Suggestion. I would review the outer pastry salt content.

I was surprised when I noticed that there's only 1 review for this bakery and cafe in TripAdvisor. Anyway, upstairs the bakery, there is a cafe. The Cornish pasties were reasonably priced, the toilet was small. Overall you should visit this bakery and the cafe on top!

We were very grateful to stumble across this place. It had been pointed out to us upon enquiry of a local as to where one could find somewhere to have cream tea in St Austell (while waiting for a bus). Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery is actually one of a chain (usually I sigh at this point, but if they're this good why shouldn't everyone enjoy them?) including others at Bodmin and Rock - possibly others, too.First and foremost, this place is a bakery - that's on street level, on Fore Street (near the church). And this place has the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastry - plus they do really yummy pasties, too. But upstairs… well, that's a cafe where they serve all the usual cafe fare (done really well, based on what other people were eating) plus the elusive cream tea (£4.50 for a decent pot of tea, two scones, cream and jam). Service was swift, efficient and friendly - and the cream teas were absolutely scrummy! Those scones would have made Mary Berry blush, they were so fresh. For a quick stop-off, this turned out to be a pleasing lunch and a good place off the beaten track to kill time while waiting for the Eden bus! If you end up in between transport modes in St Austell, I'd recommend this as a great pitstop for refreshment and sustainance.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then
