Visited the Stones pie hut for a bit of grub before football kicked off. Opted for the limited edition steak and cheddar pie they were running on the day with chips and gravy. A small detour through the bar, spinning in a squadron of Spitfires to provide valuable air support to the pie. When the pie and pig's ear went down the gregory peck, it was spot on. A good alternative to the Nelson Mandelas or Twin Carburettis on the firm that I would normally opt for. Spin em in son! Up the Stones!

This little gem has been at the Gallagher Stadium since it opened. I have since then had various pies off the menu and never been disappointed. This is good food for football. None of your pre-wrapped rubbish! While it would not fate 5* (probably 4), it does so because of the context. I just do not expect to get anything very tasty in a football ground. Greasy burger -tick, industrial hot dog, sausage roll or pie, Mr Kipling cake or Mars bar- yep! Done them all and have the botulism to prove it. But here my favourites are the proper pasty -good and savoury where you can taste the root vegetables, the steak and ale pie - always there and very popular, steak and kidney which has the right amount of proper kidney, chicken curry, all for £3.50 and for a fiver you can have a healthy/unhealthily generous portion of chips with gravy and mushy peas. They do specials occasionally as well. All good and the Pie Man and his assistant/s are always cheerful and sociable. It was a joy to see them again at the first friendly at home after well over a year. And maybe... just maybe the Stones will be playing good football this year to add extra flavour to the excellent pies.

A far cry from a truckers café, this local coffee house offers a cosy seating area with a modest menu. The interior is well decorated. There is a standard selection of hot items with a range of cakes

We ate in the bar area because we had our dog with us, it didn't seem very promising actually. But the food was very tasty and the staff was super friendly.

The weather was cold, rainy, very windy and then sunny. All that was missing was snow, but the opportunity to enjoy a pub lunch was not to be missed although venturing into the open garden was a no-no
