We were seated very quickly. Lovely place to eat. The food was very good. The staff were very attentive. Highly recommend!

This place is interesting. It’s clearly very popular amongst the Worthing community and attracts huge numbers most nights. It’s beyond overrated. The food is quite bad, like generic food with no real slant or prescision of cooking. I’m genuinely confused why it’s so popular. All I can think of is that once a restaurant becomes part of the fabric of a community the food becomes lazy and misguided. There’s a place in Kent called The Shamrat which should be a guideline for all long standing curry houses. It’s had the same management for over 30 years and the food is high quality. The service is outstanding as they take the time to actually talk to their customers. What’s more is that it has the feeling of a canteen. The waiters shout the names of the dishes in the hope someone puts their hand up and responds to the what sounds like a military order. What would be better is if the waiter took notice as to who is ordering what rather than bark at the customers. There is no attention to customer service which makes the whole experience feel alienating. All in all a disheartening evening. Because of the energy of the staff it all feels quite stressful.

Food was below average, Went for the chicken dansak and chicken tikka madras. The dansak was basically a korma the sauce was stodgy and thick. Chicken tasted a little old, the madras tasted like a spicy tomato soup tikka was very dry and small. Maybe caught them on an off day?

Myself, wife and nan regularly go to the Mahaan for lunch because the food is always very nice and feels authentic. It’s the reason we come back. This time was no different however the service we had wasn’t great and made the experience non-enjoyable. We arrived at 1255 for the lunch service, the way we were greeted wasn’t inviting, the impression wasnt very welcoming. Along with that, don’t like that one of the staff was very casual wearing shorts and flip flops.When we were shown to the table, the first thing the waiter said to us very abruptly was ‘we close at 2pm’. Immediately this made us feel like we were going to be made to rush thru our lunch. As always I wanted to order a tandoori mixed grill, when I attempted to order I was given push back by the waiter saying it takes to long to cook, even though there was an hour left till closed. When I questioned this, I was given a lame answer about the clay oven. This has never happened to me before. Wasnt happy with the response. The food is always very consistent and great, however the waiting staff were poor and really made us feel we were an inconvenience. Shame as we always go to the Mahaan but am put off going for a while. It feels like the team are not happy during the 2 hour lunch window, which adds to the not so pleasant experience. I hope this can be rectified

Had a takeaway delivery, so disappointed, cold no flavour worse curry we have had. Always had good food before but this was awful.

My family have been customers of the Mahaan for over 20 years now and there is nothing like it anywhere else, their food is on another level. We ended up moving to surrey a few years ago and we still get their food to take home and we have a tradition to always have their food on Christmas Eve. Our favourite will always be the chicken tikka purée for starter and oh my they are amazing! The staff have always been so kind and looked after us over the years! Thank you very much, we highly recommend!!!!

Lovely food, but watch your bill at the end, we had a whole bottle of wine added on to the bill and 4 cokes, none of which we ever had!

we’ve recently moved to worthing and have tried a few indian restaurants and this is the best indian in worthing, super friendly staff couldn’t do enough and the food was AMAZING, we will be back (probably too much)

The food is very good. Am not so happy with the staff. They are extremely efficient but don't listen too well sometimes. They aren't particularly friendly, that doesn't seem to be part of their training and there seems to be a desire for getting you eating and out the door above a welcoming service. I would definitely recommend Mahaan for the quality of it's food though, can't fault it

Orderd a large takeaway delivery.. rice portions are like children's size (clearly not the same size as every other takeaway)... the problem being we ended up with the right number of rice but half the amount of rice needed.. called up to ask why they do it differently from every other takeaway, and wanted to let them know that customers may not know beforehand and thus miss order the amount needed (x2) which doesn't provide a good customer experience.. and got rudely told by the manager "I don't care what you think, that's the way we do it, I dont care" .. If you want a normal size portion of rice, either order 2, or order elsewhere.. I won't be ordering again from someone who speaks to me that way after I've paid them over £9 for a takeaway for 4 people to be given enough rice to barely feed 2.. utter joke.

Apparently splitting a bill would be 'difficult'. I said no it wouldn't, I know exactly what I had, but even though I highlighted my items on the original table bill, it seemed like I had put him to a lot of trouble. Also said I'll take HER card payment first in a disrespectful tone. Didn't appreciate the attitude when I am paying for a service and really aplitting a bill is such a common request in the restaurant business. Will not be returning.

Ordered food at 10:17pm. No food still by 22:50. Called and asked if there was a problem. Guy was rude told me they'd been and called me. I had no missed calls I was sat watching out the window. Shame because was a customer for over a decade but that's put me off in future.

We did go on a Friday evening, so it was very busy. But just very average, nothing stood out as great. Prices a little on the high side. Some nice touches on the chefs special Biriani, but the actual dish lacked flavour, the veg curry again lacked any flavour. The meat in the Biriani was nicely cooked. Service was slow but again they were very busy. So not saying it's bad, just not as good as some others I have visited, I will happily try again another time.

Great Biryani- lamb utterly melt in mouth paneer good too . Can recommend wholeheartedly

The food is okey but I didn’t get the strong rich Indian flavours or Asian flavours I was expecting. I think this is just perfect for British people who don’t like spicy foods. Excellent service. Beautiful restaurant inside. I didn’t use the toilets so I don’t know about that bit 🙈

Fantastic food and good service

Visited on a recommendation from my partner who had been raving abou the place for the last 4 years saying how good it was and that we should go. Welli booked a table as a suprise and went along! First we go there and no one welcomed us, the service was terrible, after sitting down we ordered the poddomdoms and drinks. I asked for a cobra and got given a Heineken, then after ordered the mains and didn't get given the side dish which I had to ask gor again! We had a butter chicken and khurma (however you spell it) I felt they tasted bland and had no real flavor to them. In all quie underwhelming, I was really disappointed once again the service was bad, no interaction, the guy who served us barely spoke at all just mumbled. It was a real shame, think the guy was anoyyed I didn't tip but to be frank tips are given for good service and for which I did not receive. Can't see us going there again !

Good but not great. We booked a table and the staff were all a bit dysfunctional when we arrived. We were asked about drinks on entry and the were asked to pay for them at the bar before carrying them to the table that the staff had yet to sort. We ordered poppadoms and were given one dish of sauces to share between 8 people. Main cause was made with quality ingredients but was still a little bland for me. On leaving staff were too busy entertaining themselves to say bye or thanks. I would come back here but it wouldn't be my first choice..

Regularly choose Mahaan for our takeaway, always pleased with the flavours.

Having just moved to Worthing we were looking for a good local Indian restaurant and we were not disappointed at Mahaan. The food was excellent (can recommend the Chicken Shashlik delicious), the staff were professional and friendly. We felt that the meal had been cooked freshly and was not reheated as so many restaurants do now. Our experience was all good and we will return.

Possibly they were having an off night as we’d heard good things about Mahaan. The waiting staff were short with us, not a smile in sight, and my food was disappointing. Others in my group were more impressed with their food.

Very good food. Was skeptical at first as the menu was larger than average so I thought, oh oh, central curry pot here we go, but no. Dishes were all good, totally different sauces and very tender chicken. Tidy and modern place too. Only criticism is that the service is perfunctory at best, especially the guy taking the food order.

What a great night out, we went on an elvis night such fun and lots of great food. Fantastic Service by all the staff.

Plenty of vegetarian options but not the right place if you’re looking for authentic Indian food, the description of the restaurant can be misleading.

2nd visit in a month, absolutely fantastic meal, service is first class, staff are very friendly and professional no wonder the Mahaan is always packed keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Second time in two weeks despite iffy first visit. On both occasions the experience was overshadowed by a very rude, money grabbing individual…..I assume he’s the owner. This chaps staff all very good, although they seemed wary of the owner. Food pretty good but not that good I’d wish to put more money in this man’s pocket. People like this do not deserve to survive, particularly when, for most, times are tight.

Fabulous food. It’s definatly the best Curry Restaurant in Sussex. Polite service. Very efficient and smiley faces. The only let-down is it closes at 2 pm. But they all do. Would like to to stay open longer. Been here twice and looking forward to my next visit soon. Mo Sheppard

A really great experience, staff very attentive and smartly turned out. Food , a huge choice and at a reasonable price. It was delivered to the table quickly and presentation was excellent. The Devore and seating is very good and pleasant. Only down size really was the lack of choice of desserts. Certainly recommend eating there. Will visit again

Near our guest house was this gorgeous restaurant. The decor is superb and, I’m happy to report, the food matches it. Very tasty hot dishes served by attentive, helpful staff. This was a real treat.

Whenever I'm asked what type of food I enjoy I always say " I like Chinese , love Italian but I've got to be in the mood for a curry" . So last Saturday I was in the mood for a curry so my wife and I booked a table at the Mahaan . Long story short, my wife had the Tandoori chicken tikka which she absolutely loved and I plumped for the Chilli chicken garlic masala with pilau rice which was the best curry I've ever tasted all washed down with a couple of Cobra lagers . The service was top natch ,the atmosphere great and it was quite reasonably priced for our wonderful evening. So I'm definitely back in the mood again🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷😋😋

Great food however they were literally removing the plates from the main dish from our table and we were presented with the bill. We were planning to have dessert but they obviously wanted us out as it was really busy. Shame as we had a great family dinner but I am afraid it did not encourage me to go back. We felt really bad so we least with a bad taste really :-(

Been here twice in the last month. Staff are always friendly, happy and attentive. Food was fantastic on both occasions. Brought friends for a retirement meal and told them it was the best curry house in Worthing. After the meal they agreed. Great meal and atmosphere.

Have literally just got home from the Mahaan and what can I say, we had an excellent night food was out of this world, service was first class, thanks to all the staff we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We visited Mahaan in July 2023. The staff were welcoming and even though some of the waiters were young they were lovely. Inside there is plenty of seating, it was quite busy that’s why we gave it a try. We really enjoyed the food and definitely recommend you try it.

The reviews are spot-on. Absolutely incredible food. Full of flavor - we ordered so much off the menu and everything was perfect. Seafood, meat, veggies were perfection. And the staff were among the friendliest we have ever encountered. Keep up the great work!!

The grubbage here is excellent. I wouldn't say it's exactly traditional but it is what an Englishman would expect when they're dining within a UK curry house. Poppadom's - absolutely bosh-tastic. divine crunch. smooth aftertaste. Chicken Madras - came out as hot as it went in. spicey. tingly. tasty. Garlic Rice - garlicy buttery goodness. Saag Bhaji - smooth, creamy, spinachy saag. brilliant. So, the grub here is exquisite. We all know that. However, the seating isn't so good. I've visited Mahann a couple times now, each time being seated at a tables SO close to the next tables. So close in fact that I could reach over and grab the other tables food. This is not normal. I would say it's not worth sacrificing the customers comfort and privacy for the sake of a couple extra covers at night. This is my opinion and I'm sure some people would disagree with it. Apart from that I would always recommend this place.

The best!! We’re from Canada here visiting family, and this place is our new favourite! Delicious… the restaurant itself is very nice, and very clean. I wish we came here earlier, as the food is by far the best we’ve had. Many thumbs up!!

Great start, friendly staff, efficient service for a Saturday night and average prices. Only ordered popadums and main courses. Popadums were fine but unfortunately the main course was very disappointing. Both of the main dishes (chicken tikka and chicken tikka masala) were bland and underseasoned. The sag aloo also lacked seasoning. The keema rice was ok and had flavour. Was only in Worthing for a short break but if I was to return I’d not visit Mahaan again.

What a wonderful place with friendly staff and outstanding food. We held our charity night at the Mahaan to raise funds for children in Malawi. There were 31 of us - the staff looked after us so well and everyone had an amazing time. People were in high praise of the food - plenty of it and simply delicious. No wonder this restaurant has won awards. Thank you Mahaan for your generosity and for a great night.

Very busy place on the Sunday (fathers day) when we went, but the staff managed to fit us in after a little wait. However we were not disappointed with their offerings from a large menu. Plenty of drink choice at very reasonably priced which was a bonus. The food was well presented and tasted fantastic, would thoroughly recommend this place.

This was our first time ordered a takeaway and I wish we'd gone somewhere else. The food was so bland, barely any flavour at all. My lamb rogan was watery and the lamb was chewy. The other main, a chicken dish, tasted pretty similar to the lamb to be honest. It's like the same spice paste was used for both. We definitely won't be going there again.

I had found Mahaan through a local newspaper as the winner of a regional curry restaurant award. It didn't disappoint. We visited Friday evening, and although we hadn't called ahead they gave us a table. The atmosphere was loud, and the place was packed. The menu is extensive. I had Mahaan Special Chicken Curry. It was fairly mild but flavorful. That's my tip: head for the part of the menu where they claim some kind of special skill or expertise. Yum! Also had onion bhajee and Indian sag paneer as side dishes. Overall, I recommend this place.

Ordered lamb Rogan, sag paneer & rice. Lamb was soft, tender and juicy. But the dishes were really really bland. It's like they forgot to add the salt. The spice was there, just no flavour at all. Friendly staff.

Unfortunately not a great experience , the menu for a start is huge so much choice but wasn't given enough time to choose what we wanted 2 times i had to say just give us some time and ended up feeling rushed placing a order When the order was taken the man on the tablet seemed disinterested and had a unfriendly manner about him and wasn't propley focused on us like you would expect The staff seemed all stressed out and when I asked for a simple glass of water it seemed to be a issue , no one asked if our food was ok and no one offered us further drinks. It seems that the takeaway part of the restaurant is impacting the main restaurant this seems clear to me a lot of pressure Some of the dishes where good but some like the picture shown was a ridiculous and off-putting so much crammed on one plate and where exactly was the vegetable curry going to go that goes with the birani let alone side dishes ? Attention to detail on service and oversized portions and simplify the menu I belive thats what's needed . Not a good experience which is a shame not the magic of the mahaan that we remember

Went many years ago to Mahaan, enjoyed it and was not disappointed this time when we celebrated a family meal. 5 of us. All meals came together , we enjoyed all the dishes. Generous portions. The only complaint was it was busy and noise level was that we couldn’t hear each other…..Not the restaurant fault, beginning of weekend. Next time we will try in the week to fully enjoy the meal .

We ate at Mahaan on a Wednesday evening, spur of the moment decision. This place has atmosphere and we love the cosy but stylish decor: novelty glass bubble tanks that add a gentle background noise, ornamental shisha pipe and small Buddha statues... It's spotlessly clean,...

Was here last night. Unfortunately this place has become a hurried conveyor belt system. Get them in and out as fast as possible. With that comes challenges; hygiene being one of them. Today I have real bad Diarrhoea. I can honestly say I will not be back to this place

Great restaurant. Great food. Reasonable service. Only downside was : Four of us arrived at 8pm on a Saturday and we're immediately shown to our table. Took 1 hour to take our main order. The couple on the table next to us who arrived at the same time left having finished their meal before we had even ordered. Hopefully better next time.

We decided to visit this Indian last Saturday having been here a few years ago. It was OK but super busy, food was very average and pretty expensive for a local curry house. Back to Shafigues for me.

This place is a bit odd. Looks good. Food Ok. Staff miserable and passive aggressive. No real welcome. No hello. ‘Drinks?’. ‘Poppadoms?’ One word questions. Rushed. Unfriendly.

Superb Indian meal, cooked to perfection with great service. My partners orange lamb dish was phenomenal. There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant and good to see Worthing so busy again . We plan on visiting again soon

Awful. We ordered a takeaway. We had 2 curries and it was really awful - bland and tasteless, lacking salt and spice. On top of that the prices are expensive. It's £2 more than our local takeaway. And for some reason, the takeaway is the same price as dine in? Usually it's cheaper for a takeaway. For the price, I expect complimentary poppodoms, dips and samosas as they give this for free in most takeaways and restaurants (when you're ordering a takeaway). Its not good value for money at all and we won't be coming back.

I'm not a great lover of Indian food but family and friends are, I end up in an Indian restaurant, try to be adventurous and end up with the same chicken tikka masala. Tonight was no different, I looked, I asked, I looked again and...

92 hurstfield lancing I was completely dissatisfied with a chicken balti with no sauce and a bone keema nam with no meat stone cold couldn’t eat , when I rang I got from the person at the other end I’ll talk to the driver not good enough Mahaan you should of issued a part or full refund or at lease offered to pick it back up as it went it in the bin. I will NOT be buying from you again!
