Fantastic little find in Retford family ran with big smiles and fantastic fresh cooked food , centre of Retford and very accommodating, dine in or out , wheelchair access and takeaway , as a Chef I look at everything and I can not find 1 fault with this beautiful heart in the centre of the town.will definitely return. Archana (the owner) is lovely. She has a brilliant aura. It’s amazing value for money. For the two of us we only spent £25. Absolutely gorgeous food.

Absolutely gorgeous dinner but what really took my breath away is the amazing service by Arsana (spelling may be wrong). She was amazing and explained to us they’re a family run business and have been open for thirteen years. I can’t speak to the take away experience however if you’re looking for a nice Indian dine in experience in Retford this is unequivocally the place for you.

So we ordered two rices and a naan but when we ordered it said it would be earlier an then it took 1:30 hour mins for it to come

Ordered a take away from Gurkha. Ordered a lamb rogan Josh, special rice and Gurkha remix. All very nice. The lamb rogan Josh when delivered was chicken. But the flavour was lovely. Despite them getting the meat wrong, I would definitely still order from Gurkha again.

Really friendly staff, they always go that extra mile and provide excellent service. The food is amazing!

Nice place but looks old was really cold but they did bring a heater out could do with a renovation its actuly a Naples Indian restaurant they food was ok similar to Indian food with a little diffrence the starter was nice the curry was ok there was way to much cloves in the food

Been a few years since I've been in but still excellent

Went as a group of 6 food was excellent and staff were brilliant would definitely go there again.

Me and the family got a large takeout from here and it was all together not great. The food arrived an hour late and the food was luke warm when it arrived, we had to call maybe 10 times before we got a response from them asking where our food was and only when we said that we were fuming did they apologise. Maybe it’s different eating in but I don’t recommend ordering from this restaurant.

They don’t serve travellers in this Indians They are racist

Been here a few times now. Staff are great, always friendly and happy to help. Food is also well cooked and lovely. I would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be returning.

If you follow any of my reviews, you will know I love Indian cuisine/takeaways! This place was recommended to me while I was in the area. It did NOT disappoint! We had the Tikka Masala and madras... 2 pretty common dishes... but my gosh, were they better than what I have at home! The gentleman on the phone was polite... the food came fast and was hot/fresh. It was top-notch 👌 What was crazy was that it was such good value for money! In the North West where I am from, the prices are crazy and the food is good... but not this nice! Thank you, and if I'm ever here again, I will be back... but as don't leave yet I may get another order in! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Can't comment on service or atmosphere as had a takeaway meal, however food was great with generous portions and well priced. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal for 4 and would highly recommend 👌

Great food! Good veggie options

Average chicken biriyani, not an authentic south Indian one. Large portion. Not recommended to mix up the biryani with the sauce. Tasting sauce itself would be better. The ginger flavour was highly sensitive in Biriyani. People at the counter were friendly.

Excellent Sunday lunch at the Gurkha - they do a buffet from 2pm. Generous and all you can eat. I think it was £13. Very tasty options - fish pakora, chicken tikka masala and Bombay potato my pick. Not busy but when word gets around it will build up. Only possible suggestion would be a veggie curry as well as the Bombay potato. My veggie wife loved it but could have done with another option. Staff always lovely, I'll go again

Sunday buffet. £13.95 pp. 3 main meal.options of Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Pori Pori (sic), Chicken tikka masala . Not spicy curry. Good amount of meat in the dishes. Good choice of starters. Tasty food. Staff very friendly. I'm not convinced it's a curry afficionado's t.t.b.d. Maybe a good "Starter on curry" option for family or younger non curry eaters to test out. Mild curry.

Food is good, delivery times are unreliable.

Sorry to say the food was very disappointing. The curry sauce was lacking in flavour. It was a watery consistency and the onions in the sauce were undercooked. The rice also had the texture of microwave rice. I had high hopes for this place but sadly I will not be returning.

Worst food I've ever had, food didn't resemble any Indian food, raw chicken covered in ketchup, raw bombay potatoes, lamb curry was like a stew from a can, service was slow, communication was terrible, been violently sick now for 3 days following our visit, definitely stay away unless you want food poisoning, very disappointing

Due to the time of day/evening we went in there was no atmosphere in the place (in fact we were the only two in the restaurant). The starters were very nice and have no complaints the main course my wife ordered the king prawn curry, it didn’t look nice and she said the prawn’s were very chewy. The staff I must say were friendly and helpful. But we won’t be going back sorry

We have decided to visit this restaurant on our way back to home from Peak District. The quality of food and taste was outstanding from starter to main course. Very professional customer service and lovely environment. We enjoyed every single bite of meal.Love to come back again.

Just had takeaway it was terrible all 3 curries had no flavour. The vegetable curry was obviously frozen veg. The best bit was the naan. Will not go again!!!

Food wasn't brilliant...the nan was burnt and the lamb was tough. I sent an back but wasn't asked why. Restaurant was nearly empty but service was terrible

OUTSTANDING! We had: lamb pasanda and chicken jalfreizi, with garlic naan & pilau rice, plus drinks. The meat was incredibly tender and the flavours & consistency of the curries was truly delicious. And the naan...omg! So good. Drink were surprisingly inexpensive which was refreshing. Excellent prices and portion sizes & quick and friendly service. Comfy chairs & clean well presented restaurant overall. Lovely atmosphere. What a find. 😀 10/10. We will be back very very soon. Keep up the high standard.

Our first experience of Ghurka takeaway and we are very pleased with our decision. The food and service was excellent and now plan to eat in the restaurant very soon.

Ok so I am re-writing this review. Why, , because for some reason the last one dropped off Google reviews, and, I was so impressed last time I went. Easy to say the food is very good, the atmosphere relaxing, the staff are friendly and helpful and the owners will cater for large (pre-booked) groups. Great place to eat.

I've just been to Gurkha Indian restaurant in Retford, the food was absolutely amazing, and really fresh, but the staff really did go that extra mile to make sure we was all happy. Absolutely awesome experience, can't thank you enough

Sorry to say but had a really disappointing meal last night. Ordered three totally different meals but all had the same watery, tomato and onion sauce base. Dopiaza had a few more onions thrown in, madras had a bit more chilli thrown in and then the jalfrezi had a few green chillis thrown in. No authentic flavours in any of them. Gave them the benefit of trying them again after a poor meal a few months back but definitely will not be returning or recommending.

Let's start with the food... we ordered starters to share... mixed gurkha starter -the sweet and sour sauce elevated this dish, all meat cooked on point. Lamb chops - amazing flavour however slightly overdone (not to the point worth raising ). Onion bhaji - phenomenal, nothing more to add... Onto the mains.. I am a gluten for a phall but fancied more flavour than spice... didn't quite fancy a vindaloo but more a madras but with more spice, requested this and I must say delivered on point... Mrs ordered a lamb saag and the meat was so tender it fell apart. I save special 5* rating for how good both the pickle tray and the garlic naan is compared to the delivery version.. again not a criticism, delivery will never taste as good! Service - simply flawless from beginning to end Atmosphere- absolutely suited, maybe a tad to 'close' in the current climate, however prior to covid I would be singing a different tune... Absolutely the best Indian food in town and probably the best for a long way surrounding. Keep up the good work and thank you!

What a fabulous find. Delicious food, cooked to your taste, a lovely atmosphere and an extremely warm owner whose staff are a credit. Interestingly, though we searched for an Indian restaurant it is in fact Nepalese though all the Indian favourites are on the menu. We thought we'd give it a go, being new to the area...I can't imagine we will be going anywhere else now when we fancy Nepalese/Indian food!

Not had a curry from any takeaway in Retford for years, so we read all the reviews and chose The Gurkha as it scored highly. We weren't disappointed, on collection, the restaurant looked very clean & contemporary and the staff were friendly. Oh yes, the best bit; the food was great and we'll certainly make the Gurkha our 'local' for our next takeaway curry.

Just finished a lovely meal with my wife, great atmosphere and 5 star food, will definitely be coming back.

Another excellent meal here for 4 of us, a little mix up with the food ordered but was quickly sorted & a 10% discount applied to the bill

Visited this restaurant this evening was very impressed with the politeness of the staff. They were very welcoming and helpful. Food was very nice and fresh. The price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend will be returning when back in this area.

Wow I've visited Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, North Yorkshire, east Yorkshire but this is THE best Indian I've visited. The staff were very friendly and polite, the food is excellent and exceptionally exquisite. Everything had its own flavour and didn't taste exactly the same. Definitely recommend. 5 star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’m not from Retford but ordered this into work. I see great reviews I don’t see how. I ordered the chilli chicken masala, it lacked flavour, it was bland spice, Try adding garlic, trust me. It tasted like a supermarket ready meal madras. Further more it took almost an hour and half to come so was barley warm when arrived.

Amazing food. Best SOUTH INDIAN BIRYANI I ever had in the country. Very very affordable at £7.50. This definitely worth a lot more than that. Very dedicated cook.

Had a takeaway tonight, ordered via their website. It arrived on time, piping hot, excellent value for money 10% off at the moment. We had onion bhaji, mixed starter, Gurkha biryani, chicken saag & roti, it was plentiful & tasted fantastic, thanks. Wayne & Sarah

First time using this takeaway. Food arrived on time and was absolutely delicious. The meat was plentiful, not fatty and really tasty. We will definately order from here again. Thank you Gurkha.

Food was average but it was like eating in a scruffy cafe. The place needs decorating and the tables were stripped with no cloths, candles, anything. Yet another Covid excuse. Which is rubbish because my local Indian restaurant has kept everything in place to be warm and welcoming as it should be. But the staff were really pleasant and attentive otherwise I'd have scored 2 stars.

Decided to try the Gurkha after our favourite local Indian restaurant closed. Bought takeaway a meal for 5, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Suffice to say we have a new favourite.

Best Indian Restaurant around! We have tried both takeaway and eat in. We normally eat in on a Friday evening for date night. Always attentive and friendly staff, the lovely lady knows our order off by heart. We always take advantage of the set meal for 2 which is fantastic value. We often change the selections slightly which the restaurant is happy to do! By far the best Keema naan I have ever had!

We booked a table for four on a Sunday night but we didn't need to as there were never more than two tables occupied. The food was enjoyed by all of us, and was good value but the service was a little unusual. Very attentive initially and until we had the main course and then we eventually had to go get them. We were not offered another drink, dessert or coffee until we initiated it. Same with paying the bill. The staff were not at all unfriendly, so perhaps they were just a bit disengaged as it just happened to be a quiet night.

Grear food, great service, reasonable price. Will be back.
