This isn’t the first or last time that we visit this restaurant because every visit is different, but also the same, different recommendations on the menu, always excellent , always leaving satisfied with freshly cooked food and excellent service, value for money, so please visit

Hailing all the way from Glasgow for a 4 day visit, we always were gonna have an Indian curry for dinner one night. Plenty indian restaurants to choose from so it was totally pot luck. Food was excellent from onion bahji starter to chicken madras and vegetarian korma for mains.one criticism was the size of naan bread, usually we have one to share, as back home they are usually the size of a dustbin lid! Here we needed one each as the portion size of the curry was lovely and big.... yes we would recommend and yes we would return here if we came back to torquay. Nice friendly and attentive staff too.

Managed to book at short notice for Saturday evening. It was busy and had to wait a long time for our food.Food was nice and felt safe due to Covid restrictions.There is a large fish tank in there which needs a good clean, sitting right next to it so not nice seeing how dirty it is.

Really well organised with screens up for Covid and a one way system in place. Food was beautiful. Staff were attentive. We were never left waiting for food or drinks. The whole night was perfect. Would highly recommend and will be back.

As locals and curry lovers we visit “Mahabs” at least once a month and can highly recommend this place. The food is top notch and such friendly service too.

A lovely place to go for dinner if you are looking for a nice quiet time with your partner. I went with my Mrs and we had a great time. Soft music in the background, everything was clean, covid restrictions were in place and we felt safe.Also, most importantly - the food was great! I was a big fan of their vegetarian food - all of the dishes that we ordered were absolutely delicious.Highly recommend this restaurant!

Visited on a weeknight as a couple.We ordered king prawn puri, mixed kebabs, a mixed curry and meat thali.Food was really flavoursome and prices reasonable.Would have given a 5 but couldn’t due to the meat thali - the sauces were hot but the meat in them was stone cold which was concerning. It was rectified quickly though.

Had a great meal here & would certainly recommend.Ive eaten many many curry’s & the main of “meat thali” was up there with the best,poppadoms were very good,onion bhajis very nice too.Reasonably priced & wouldn’t hesitate in going again.

If I’m honest, we booked here because we had trouble getting booked into anywhere else and we enjoy Curry’s so thought why not but as much as the staff were lovely and friendly our curry’s were quite tasteless and we both had different curry’s, the starters were nice so because of that and the service I’ve given an average rating

pre-booked prior to travelling and were seated all at one table (7people). Screening around tables and a one way system in place, although this was not followed by staff. Food was hot and tasty with everyone enjoying the food we had. Reasonably priced and good value. we found it lacking in atmosphere and the staff looked unhappy.

Small restaurant but food was very good with good service. Large fish tank was a nice feature. There was the four of us, with two having the chicken tikka masala, one butter chicken and a lamb masala, all of which was very delicious.

After being recommended to visit. My partner and I tried out this restaurant a couple of days ago. We had a lovely meal staff were very attentive and will be going back on our next visit. Being from Birmingham we are critical of curry houses but this is one of the best we have eaten at. The fish tank in the restaurant made a beautiful background. Couldn't fault it at all.

We would definately use this resaurant again.Very clean and welcoming, look out for the massive marine fish tank - a wonderful centrepiece.

We pre booked a table which was a good idea as the restaurant was quite busy. All tables had screens between them and a one way system. We were seated quickly and ordered soon after. We all had different curries which were very tasty and plentiful. Our servers we friendly and polite. Would recommend and visit again.

Last night went for Tapas, fab good mix on menu staff helpful and working under difficult Covid conditions. Brisket beef skewers lush.

Booked only a couple of hours in advance and they fitted us in no problem. All the food was outstanding, especially as me and my partner absoluley love Indian food and have tried alot of different Indian restaurants in the past. Portions were just right and service was brilliant. Will visit again if we ever venture back to Torquay in the future

My wife and I popped in on Saturday evening. We had not booked but tables were available. Staff were very friendly, offering recommendations when asked. Drinks and popadoms were served rapidly. Food arrived at the perfect time, it was hot, plentiful and excellent. Overall a very good restaurant and well recommended.

We came here at the end of July. There were six of us in total. We had booked in advance and were shown to our table. We ordered drinks but only 4 came. After about half an hour, we asked for the other two drinks (2 beers), which came, but at the end of the evening, they had charged us for 2 more beers than we had ordered. The food was very good (a couple a bit hotter than we expected!) but the service was not very good at all and very slow, even though it wasn’t too busy.

Me and my girlfriend went here while holidaying in torquay and the staff were very friendly upon arrival and could not so enough for us. For those concerned about covid safety I shall tell you that each table has plastic screening round it so I would say it is very secure there.On top of all this the food was lovely everything tasted very fresh and full of flavour.

We sat inside on the first week of opening. Sanitizer on entry and plastic screens between tables. Excellent service and lovely food.

This is a very good curry house. The food is a good standard and varied and the service is on point and its priced really well. Has become a regular haunt for us.I like that they break down the heat of each meal so you can make a varied choice on your meal

Me and my wife whent to maha barath for a meal when we whent to torquay for a holiday it was on a sunday night the food was geat service was very fast the maneger jamal was very helping thaks

We have visited Maya Bharat 3 times in the last couple of months. On all occasions the food has been excellent and the service very good. Maha Bharat has the usual choice of curry, but also has dishes which seem either unique or a twist on the usual. You could visit a number of times and still have a decent selection of alternatives. Price wise, very reasonable - around £50.00 for a meal for 2 including a very decent Merlot. If you like curry and not visited yet, it well worth trying. You won’t be disappointed.

The atmosphere was good. The food had good flavour and texture however it was cold which spoilt the meal. The plates were brought out hot but the luke warm food came out 10 mins after meaning the plates were cold... This really put a downer on the evening. I think it is time to vote with my feet and find a different curry house.

On the occasions we have eaten in we have always enjoyed the excellent food and helpful and friendly service. On this occasion we ordered a takeaway which was delivered within the time arranged. Sadly the food was not up to their usual standards with the contents overwhelmingly sauce. A vegetable side dish the exception. My experience is that takeaways are generally best served from dedicated takeaway providers and not restaurants. The company however was truely great, whilst Tweeny cleared the plates and the stable boy provided the cheese and biscuits but Tweeny needs to discover the cheese monger.

Good service and food but plates cold and all 12 of us said food not very hot despite pre ordering meals, overall enjoyed our meal for my sons birthday

Friendly, not overpriced and very tasty food. We introduced a couple that had never been here and they enjoyed it as much as we did. Will be back again in the new year

Whenever we have a family get together we always order a takeaway from Maha-Bharat. We all choose different dishes with rice and naan breads. We are never disappointed. The food is always excellent. The 20% discount for collection is a bonus. We have also spent a couple of New Years Eves here and been thoroughly spoilt! A must to visit or enjoy a takeaway.

Took my brother and his wife as his late birthday treat. Friday night table easy and quick to book. Good varied menu, discreet service and help with our selections. Waiter was very helpful and food arrived quickly.Nice ambiance in the restaurant with the beautiful central fish tank. Stunning to watch. We had the Orange sorbet special and Mango Kulfi as dessert. Both really good. Nice end touch with the mints and a shot of Baileys. Bill was less than expected for 4 with three courses and beers. Portions were so generous that I had half of my Butter Chicken/side left which they packed to take home and even added some new pillau rice to. Had the next night while watching Strictly. Just as delish reheated!!Highly recommend. A nice way to spend an evening with family and friends.

Our local Kingsbridge friends have for years talked about us all going to this wonderful restaurant.Last night we finally made it and sure enough we were not disappointed.It was very busy, which is always a good sign. Our table was well presented and the menu choice was huge.Great service and excellent authentic food made it a fantastic experience.Would highly recommend this place to anyone.Booking would be a must I would suggest.Many thanks team.

We have been here quite a few times, and the food and service has always been great! The food is very tasty and quite close to home made curry rather than the knock off they give you in supermarkets. They are heavy on the garlic which I absolutely love!! Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait but the food makes up for it. The team have always been so friendly and helpful when we have gone to the restaurant! They have a good range of mild and spicy dishes on the menu so it suits all tastes. I would return time and time again. Very reasonable pricing too! Great place!

The staff are always really friendly and accommodating here. I tried a new dish to the menu, the bengali fish curry - it was fragrant and tasty and the fish was perfectly cooked. All our food came out hot and in good time. We had a great visit, thank you very much.

Rude and not very helpful order a vindaloo and was mild no spice I was told if I wanted it hot I should of ask for it hot even the it states on menu very hot I will not

We have been to this restaurant a couple of times hence going back again. As always very welcoming and the food and service exceptional. On this visit a young gentleman by the name of Lewis sat on a table opposite and started chatting away to us. We passed away the time talking and he evenually disappeared to eventually come back and bid his farewells and in passing stated he had settled our bill for us. It was one of those Candid camera moments where our faces must have been a picture even the people accross the way were taken back!! Like the magician Dynamo, he did not stay for any fuss just disappeared, we are still stunned at the kindness a young man exhibited to two total strangers he had never met before.

Me and my partner ordered an Indian takeaway this evening, he order a chicken vindaloo and I order a chicken tikla jalfrezi, when ze collected the order and got back we were disappointed my partners was not a vindaloo there was no flavour no spice and it had potatoes in, rang them back and they were extremely rude on the phone, told us we did not read the menu properly and if we wanted a hot curry we should of asked for extra spice!! I'm pretty sure a vindaloo is hot anyway. Really really disappointing

With a great selection of Indian restaurants to chose from in Torquay it was only luck we decided to try the Maha-Bharat. We were so glad we picked it. It was a lovely evening from the time we entered. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, a really good menu with lots to choose from and a pleasant atmosphere. Food was excellent, couldn't have asked for tastier dishes. Definitely a place to visit.

We stayed in torquay for one night and fancied an indian. We chose here because it looked nice from the outside. This curry was literally the BEST curry I've ever eaten. I had the chicken tikka masala with pilau rice and shared onion bahji and a cheese garlic naan. It was all absolutely delicious!! Eat here you wont be disappointed!!! Great service delicious food, lovely setting. Thankyou x

As is often the case with Asian restaurants this long established and well respected eatery is open for business post evening theatre. Recommended by our dear friends and neighbours who have lived in Torquay all of their long lives we enjoyed a most excellent meal at an amazing deal. Entry price of two bottles of a reasonable house wine at just around £13 plus beers for 4 diners came to just £102 plus tips. Most pleasant team with whom Melinda had an agreeable banter. We shall return.

Went here a few years back and although the food was ok the place was tatty. They have done the place up a bit so I have given them 2 not a 1 in recognition of this.

Had takeaways from here many times. Tonight was a sit in meal with two family members. Service excellent, food excellent (as usual). Had a lamb dish and it was tender and well cooked. You can order hot and it has a nice heat but plenty of flavours too.

Was here sept 26th,really good food plenty of choice on the menu and not to pricey either, staff friendly would recommend if your in torquay.

This place is lovely. It has a beautifully maintained fish tank running down the middle which is stunning but that does not distract from the food. We live close to Birmingham which has, literally, hundreds of Indian/Bengali restaurants and this is as good as anything I have ever eaten, possibly better.

Wanted an Indian takeaway whilst on holiday and after visiting here a few years ago, decided to stick to what we know and order again. It did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and helpful on the phone when ordering. Food was ready on time when we went to collect. The portions were huge so we shared most things and the food was lovely. They also do a good discount so it is good value for money.

ordered a takeaway from here a few weeks ago, what a joke, it was cold! we ordered sag aloo which looked like it had sat there all night and looked like it had been reheated and burnt in the process! tiny pieces of chicken some not worth eating! told them to come and take it back and refund us, which they did, never again!!

No been here since the fire as got in to another place across the road! Thought it time to try again. Takeaway chicken madras, plain rice, sag aloo & garlic naan were all great, although it is a bit pricier than the other place! They threw in a couple of pappadums and 3 chutneys foc, so that was a nice touch. Will definitely be back for more!

Just had really good meal here last night. The restaurant was busy by 1930 and we'd fortunately booked a table as there weren't many left. Service was a bit slow as the staff were very busy but when the food did arrive it was worth the wait. Four of us each had different choices and the Maha specials offered some interesting and unique dishes; there were also some great variations on normal themes with the rice and nan bread choices. The attentive staff knew about my daughter's birthday and very kindly brought a special desert for her at no cost - a lovely touch and thank you. Thoroughly recommend the Maha for anyone wanting good quality Indian food with some unique dishes. Will definitely visit again.

Really excellent services. Lots of selection on menu. Friendly atmosphere. Food tastes really great. We our on holidays from Ireland. We will be back. We are curry heads and not often taken by surprise but this place is fantastic. The choices and food quality, taste everything was perfect. My wife is hard to please when it comes to curry but you guys pulled it out of the bag and got 10/10 so well done.

A very nice Indian restaurant with th 'right' ambience. Food we had was good and the menu is very diverse. Reading it we got the feeling that they listen the wishes of their customers. We tend to visit at least once a month and find the food to be consistently good and the staff to be very friendly. We can only speak as we find and highly recommend trying this restaurant as it’s certainly better the any of the others in the area and we have noticed a lot of repeat customers which generally means it a great place to eat

The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. I can recommand the curry madras and the chicken with garlic rice. The lamps in the restaurant are very nice, the atmosphere is good.

At 74 I have been enjoying Indian food for many decades, having lived in Oxford for ten years, where the choice is amazing - indeed as it is here in Swindon (that may surprise you, but it is nonetheless true!), and having visited the country three times, and Sri Lanka four or five times, I recognise good Indian food !!

We really enjoyed our visit to this Indian restaurant. We have been to India 6 times and are quite particular clients and the restaurant lived up to our expectations. We loved the ambience , especially the fish tank ! Service was speedy and very polite. The food was of a very high standard -lots of gorgeous chutneys with the poppadums, tasty starters and rich and spicy main courses. There were old time touches we enjoyed, such as hot handtowels and chocolates with our bill and our waiter held the door for us as we left. We felt really valued guests and will come again.

The Indian food here has always been amazing and now that their brilliant fish tank with tropical fish is back to its former glory one can’t help but want to come in and enjoy the friendly welcome from the staff and savour the cuisine which has never faltered for years and years. After a week in Torquay, you will have some VERY mixed experiences with their local restaurants. They range from extortionate seafood haunts, greasy spoons to usual chain spots. We were lucky enough to visit this place on recommendation from friends.

whilst on holiday, we came a cross this lovely resturant. The food was exceptional and all the dishes that we ordered were delicious. The food was that good that we went back again. All the staff went above and beyond to ensure that we were all happy. My 2 young boys loved the big fish tank in the restutant. I highly recommend this restaurant and being from Birmingham and eating at lots of indian resturants we know our food. Try it its defiently worth it.

We visited on Good Friday, and really fancied some good Indian food. We were not disappointed! Amazing food, great service a lovely clean restaurant. The Chicken madras was to die for!We would definitely recommend and will return when we next visit Torquay.

A really great Indian. Great service.. friendly & attentive. Hot plates. Tasty dips. King prawn rogan josh - really delicious with HUGE king prawns. Chicken tikka masala & garlic naan - really tasty. Hot towels, chocolate mints and a baileys shot to finish - a lovely touch. We visited Easter wknd when they were very busy and the service was exceptional. Highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant one of the evenings that we were on holiday in Torquay. We walked in and we're not greeted by anyone. There were a few people seated but it certainly wasn't busy. We found a waiter and asked for a table for two. He seated us right by the door and it was a really cold mIght. He then went off and left us without any menus. People were going outside to smoke and kept leaving the door open. We still sat there waiting. Next, a delivery came and in came the lorry driver with his sack truck straight through the restaurant. After 15 minutes we got up and walked out

Rude staff both the Manager and the waiter, No Manners at all they were swearing in front of kids. Do Not Visit Them they will ruin your Day..

We ate here recently during a short trip to Torquay.

We went in for a meal, sitting down at 19:40, poppadoms and first drink served by 20:00 - downhill after that. Order for main course taken (After having to ask for the menus) at around 20:05 but by 20:50 still no sign of service, food or extra drink!! Maybe nice restaurant if empty but otherwise you are better to ring for takeaway you will get your food quicker- sorry I meant you will get your food full stop!

We have tried a fair majority of the decent Indian restaurants in the area and Maha-Bharat is constantly good with reasonable prices and genuinely nice staff. We have now been on numerous occasions and the quality is constant and plenty of others agree as it has constant trade and we have started to see the same people eating here which is always a good sign as repeat business means they have got it right

We are a vegan and vegetarian and visited here for our wedding anniversary, I explained I have a dairy intolerance and the waited explained what food options were suitable for me and what they could adapt, The food was delicious and very tasty. Highly recommended

This place just gets better,the food we had last Friday was fabulous leaving nothing on our plates.The quality of the food is excellent and the flavours cannot be beaten in Torbay.The quantity is good and there is a wide choice .The service is friendly ,polite and to a high standard and we are always made to feel welcome.The prices are compatible to other resturant's Im told ,but I stick to this one as I know I can rely on getting a satisfying meal.

Had a lovely meal here on 13th December. Welcoming staff and very friendly . Restaurant really nice inside and plenty of room to move .

We decided that we would have a take-away and fancied Indian, so we rang Maha Bharat. This is the first time we have used them. When I phoned the order in I was immediately told that I could have a 20% discount if I went in and collected the order myself! WOW!! I couldn't actually take them up on this offer so had it delivered. It arrived 25 minutes after I placed the order and it was piping hot. But more to the point it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this place

I've eaten here twice in four days and taken a takeaway for three home another night. Great service: friendly , clean, helpful. The food is superb. I prefer hot curries and they don't disappoint. Super naan (i tried peshwari and garlic ), excellent vindaloo . Their special "Cox's Prawns" a must try. Highly recommended. I'll be back every time I return to Torquay.

Called In here last minute tonight being a Monday night it was very quiet. Friendly greeting by the staff .. shown to our seats... Ordered poppadoms and drinks . We were left to enjoy them for a while, then waiter came for our meal order. Only waited a short time before our meals arrived. Presented very nice. We both enjoyed our meals the flavours were amazing. Lovely atmosphere. They have an amazing fish tank in the middle of the restaurant, wish is lovely to look at. It's safe to say we were not rushed at anytime and we will definitely be going back soon. Thank you for a lovely evening.
