What a load of rubbish. I don't know of any cafe ANYWHERE that stops serving hot food at 2pm (im talking a toastie for lunch here). A lovely (busy) afternoon in Valley Gardens, spoilt by these miserable cafe 'operators'. Harrogate Council, GET RID and get some professionals in - tourism eh? Who needs it?

Great little place to stop while walking through Valley Gardens in Harrogate. Great value and lovely food. We had soup and a roll with mug of tea. Dog friendly (but no wet dogs allowed inside). Plenty of outside seating. Also sell very funny birthday cards, and I usually end up buying one or two!

My recent visit to Magnesia Well Coffee left much to be desired, not due to the quality of the coffee but rather the demeanor of the owners. It is regrettable that their attitude exuded an air of self-importance, which created an unpleasant ambiance. In the realm of hospitality, warmth and courtesy should be as vital as the coffee itself, and regrettably, these aspects were lacking. I hope for an improvement in both the owners' attitude and the overall atmosphere, as it would greatly enhance the overall experience at this establishment.

Always a pleasurable visit to the Magnesia Well Cafe. Martin and his team have worked tirelessly to provide a great service during lockdown measures, one of which is to provide drinks in takeaway cups only. Great bacon & sausage sarnies. Very dog friendly.

In Harrogate there are plenty of lovely independant coffee/tea shops - you don't have to go the Magnesia Well Tea Rooms! Yes - the building is unique - it's one of the original wells - and the setting is idylic. However, the manager is rude, the staff are lacking in customer care, the food is nothing special and the drinks are served in paper cups! Surely you deserve something better. So, my advice is - go somewhere else!

This is a great spot for a coffee after walking the dog, but on two occasions now, the coffee has been made far too hot. When you’re paying £2.50/3.00 for a fresh coffee, the barista should know that milk should only be steamed to a temperature of 70-80 degrees, otherwise it changes the taste completely. The milk had been boiled and lost all its creaminess. The cafe is in a lovely position, doggies are welcome and the ice cream is fantastic. I don’t think I’ll be buying coffee again.

Beautiful building but being so old the cafe are clearly limited on what changes and improvements they can make to it presumably as mere lessees. Agree with other reviewers criticisms that much more could be made of this iconic spot both internally and the exterior. The young staff work jolly hard and the core team are always there to offer a warm welcome and share some banter when you pop in soggy and wet whilst on a dog walk. Once they know you ie. go regularly, and they will have your favorite cuppa ready for you as soon as they see you approaching, If you want a slight variation to what is on the menu you only have to ask: Martin, Craig,Emma, Alfie and Alex couldn't be more obliging and utterly lovely. They can rustle up a mean coffee : cinnamon sprinkled on your cappaccino chocolate lifts it to a new level! :) The kitchen facilities are pretty limited but hats off the team they offer weekly specials when they can such as Eggs Benedicts, Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, Quiche and fresh salad etc in winter special delux hot chocolates with cream, sprinkles, marshmallows and flakes. They source in the very best cakes and cookies from outstanding local suppliers like Brown and Blond...have you ever tasted one of their brownies??!! They are to die for!!! Our four legged friends are all made welcome (so long as on a lead and well behaved) fresh water bowls are outside and doggie biscuits and sausages are all available for them too. Always a welcome break on a long dog walk. I would miss it dreadfully if it closed.

We stumbled across this hidden spot in the middle of the park and found it a welcome stop but I can’t help feeling that it could have been made so much better. Don’t get me wrong but the staff were lovely and helpful but the menu could have been more inspiring and the decor updated. The tables outside with the gardens surrounding were great but inside was drab and dated.

Poorly trained staff could not wait to go home on a glorious sunny day when gardens were still full of potential customers. We arrived at 4.40 pm. The ice-cream machine was already switched off. On checking with the Council they mentioned that their closing time is 5 pm. There are no opening and closing times on their website. We walked all the way from the top of the pinewoods with an elderly disabled lady who was exhausted when we got there only to find that they were closing.

I came to visit the cafe with my granddaughter while visiting during the week and was utterly disappointed with the way the standards have dropped since we last visited. One young ‘man’ behind the cafe counter was standing around doing nothing, being rude to the other members of staff, and refused to serve. I heard a game of ‘shotgun’ going on behind the counter and found it utterly disgusting that I was stood waiting to be served and was being avoided by all members off staff. Will not be back.

Wow - what an amazing building, with the best location in town - easily. Sadly I find that these are the only positives about the Magnesia Well Tea Rooms. When I last visited the service was dreary, and the food wasn't much better. There is a clear 'fantastic' opportunity to make this place the best tea/coffee room in Harrogate - but it seems to be overlooked!

Lovely place for a tea or coffee in the Valley Gardens, but it could be improved. Service at the counter is slow, inside seating is limited and noisy, and the outside seating is a bit tatty and could be cleaner. It can be noisy with people constantly passing and gardeners mowing the grass nearby. Nice coffees and teas, plus light snacks and ice creams available. Open all year, but restricted hours in winter. If you have children, the cafe in the playground may be better (if it is open)

We went to visit our grandson for a day out in Harrogate and we were taken to Valley Gardens park just outside the centre. Whilst here we stopped in at this cafe and had a coffee and a bun. We love this café. Every day, the 'regulars' and their dogs come here after their morning walk. The owner, Martin, is always friendly and welcoming as are his staff. We get to know each other really well and it's such a pleasure to stop here for a while with our friends, both human and canine. We also make a point of being welcoming to the many tourists who come here. The coffee is excellent - you only have to look at the sophisticated coffee machine to know that. There are sandwiches, snacks, full breakfasts as well as bacon rolls etc. and Ripley's ice cream. In summer the café is decorated with fabulous hanging baskets of flowers. Even the resident robins are made welcome here.

This little cafe is hugely popular despite the negativity that some have thrown at it in an attempt to get regular customers to take patronage elsewhere. Everyone that I have seen on each of my visits has had a smile been relaxed and when possible become regular customers whenever they return to Harrogate. The staff are kind courteous and hard working this is why it's always a pleasure to return when we can even if it means traveling miles to do so.

Not been since poor experience a year ago - nothing changes! Guy who I take was in charge/owner walked through door in front of me and just let it closed. Felt my coffee order was a nuisance - perhaps due to it being an hour before closing and were cleaning up. I wanted a decaf skimmed milk latte and got a caffeinated semi skimmed latte. It's a shame but it's been like this for years - about time they did some customer based training. Only the young lady who served me was courteous. Tables not cleared after people left - not nice to see messy leftovers.

Went for a first visit to this cafe today and it will certainly not be the last. What a pleasure to find this little gem in the middle of beautiful gardens. Being made welcome from the moment that you step foot inside made our visit that much better. The food was delicious and hot and waiting time minimal in a clearly busy cafe that seems very popular at all times of the day. The staff cheerful as well as experienced took time to make sure that all was well with our visit. Martin the manager was very popular with his customers and many seem to enjoy taking the time to chat to him. All in all we would highly recommend the very good service in a clean pleasant establishment.

I've been to this café many times for its convenient location, and every time I have been disgusted, its dirty, the staff are rude, the food is not nice, and the owner is awful, the way I have heard him speak to his staff is appalling, which is probably why they are so rude! As I said I have only continued to go back for its convenient location, however this weekend was the final straw for me when having coffee and cakes with friends, at 1pm and the owner started sweeping the floor around us and making is feel very unwelcome, he took our drinks away when we had barely just finished and we had been in the café for about 20minutes when he told us if we weren't having anything else then we had to leave! So not only is he rude to his staff he is rude to his customers! I will not be using this café again even for convenience. Visited with family for lunch on a weekend. The location is lovely, just a shame it's on the less sunny side of the park. The food was fairly priced, but not great quality - the burgers were pretty cheap meat, and the sausages were probably cheap too, but the immense quantity of herbs added hid the flavour somewhat. The salad was pretty tired too. The place probably trades well off the absence of competition, just don't go with high expectations!

I've been pleased to get a coffee here on several occasions but the place isn't too well run and seems to succeed mostly because it's where it is - in the middle of the very popular Valley Gardens! This used to be a 'proper cafe' whre you could have a drink and sandwich or light meal. A local firm took over and it is predominately ice cream based now, with lots of outdoor seating. It is by no means the best ice cream around the area. Don't be fooled by the title 'world famous' according to the chap working there, this has been added to the name Ripley ice cream, so the business is actally called 'World Famous Ripley Ice Cream'. The venue is good, a very old building and plenty of outdoor seating. Poor choice of food. When i bought a piece of cake and coffe, I had to sit on the one table that was outside and althoughthe ice cream booth is attached to the building and access is in the building, you cannot buy ice-cream to eat in there without queing outside to buy it first. It's a crazy set up and is absolutely tourist driven.

Oh. My. GOD. Let me tell you about my night at this pub in Knaresborough because, honey, it was an absolute disaster – and not the fun, reality-TV kind. No, this was the kind of drama that would make a telenovela look like a casual tea party. I sauntered in, thinking I was about to have the night of my life – and with this face, why wouldn’t I? The place was cute enough, I’ll give it that, and I thought, “This might actually be fabulous.” But oh no, darling, the universe had other plans. First off, the online ordering system was down. DOWN. In 2024! I mean, I might as well have been trying to send a telegram! The whole point of going to a pub these days is to sip a cocktail while casually tapping away on your phone, right? But noooo. Instead, I had to walk to the bar like some peasant from the 1800s. The nerve! The bar? PACKED. I could feel the wrinkles forming as I waited, endlessly, for someone to notice me. And when they finally did? They had the audacity to act like it was my fault that their ancient system had crumbled. I swear, I was two seconds away from giving them a live performance of “And I Am Telling You” right there. But wait, there’s a twist: the toilets. GORGEOUS. I mean, I walked in and thought I’d been transported to a high-end spa. Marble, mirrors, the lighting was divine—honestly, it was like a little slice of heaven in the middle of this disaster zone. I spent more time in the bathroom admiring the décor than I did actually eating or drinking. Priorities, darling. So, here’s the tea: if you’re after a stunning restroom experience, by all means, swing by. But if you’re hoping for decent service or a smooth ordering process, save yourself the heartbreak. I left hungry, frustrated, but at least with a fabulous selfie from the loo. 1.5 stars – And that’s only because the toilets SLAYED.

Surly staff, slow service, though the cafe wasn't busy and despite 4-5 staff members on shift. Toilet in a terrible state (I know the public can be disgusting when using facilities) but the loo and room hadn't been properly cleaned in a long while - the loo itself was not in good condition. The cafe overall is a bit scruffy - not a nice representation for Knaresborough's historic market place.

We recently stopped at Wetherby Drive Thru and were refused service as we had a dog with us. We all know that Costa have recently changed their policies and allow dogs in most coffee shops. Despite sharing the specific branch amenities stating dogs allowed the staff were totally inflexible. Staff should be fully aware of company policies and Costa should update door posters at the same point in time with such changes to avoid ambiguity. Finally staff should not hide behind the fact they are a franchise, branches branded as Costa have identical look and feel and follow same policies otherwise there are inconsistencies which lead to poor customer service and satisfaction.
