This was our first visit and will definitely not be our last. Was the best fish and chips ever.

Best tasting fish and chips in ages. Not cheap, you only get what you pay for.

I went to Maggie's Fish & Ship to have lunch after reading about places to visit while in Hastings (it was highly recommended). The restaurant was nice and neat. Tables were clean and waitresses were fast but very nice. Food was delicious. I was under the impression it was freshly prepared. Vegetarian options in the menu. Price was great! Atmosphere was very pleasant, kids friendly. Great place to taste food from Hastings.

Went here due to good reviews, but was quite disappointed. I'm happy to try new things and wanted to try their catch of the day (huss), but they had sold out. Reverted to try deep fried monkfish. Monkfish is a very meaty fish so was surprised to be served deep fried tails with very little fish. Just batter and bones!!! Also, seemed as if the plates we were served the meals on were inconsistent in size compared to some other diners. My partner had the cod which he said was good, but not outstanding. Such a shame. We were really looking forward to a good meal. The older lady who initially served us was very friendly but then became busy on the till and the young lady who took over seemed disinterested.

Nice to be up high among the fishermen's huts with a view. Lovely food and staff.

Not only is the fish amazing but so are the staff. Love this place . Thank you. Since then our second visit was another story.

Great fish and chips fresh off the boat.

Excellent fresh food cooked to order. Great range of specials as well as their standard menu. Value for money too. Gets very busy so book if you can but if you do have to wait for a table it is definitely worth it.

Having read the many rave review and been turned away previously due to it being fully booked,we had high expectations. When we arrived we didn't get a particularly warm welcome - we were not greeted but immediately told that we "should have booked", but were not turned away. We saw 4 empty tables with reserved signs on them. We were eventually given the other free table. What was strange was that the 4 reserved tables remained empty for the next hour.and were still empty when we left. Was it really fully booked or were they just limiting the number of customers? Service was quite slow, not particularly friendly. Fish was OK, chips not very good., portions on the small side. The food was actually very similar to most other fish and chip places in Hastings, but more expensive.

Fantastic fish'n'chips. There was a 15 minute wait for takeout - but so worth every minute. Staff great & located next to the beach.

Was OK, quite expensive compared to other fish & chip shops around. More pub style fish and chips rather than from a traditional fish shop. Also quite a small portion in my opinion. Nice enough but a little disappointing

Everything was 10/10. All super fresh, delicious. Especially recommend the catch of the day items. Calamari was a stand out as well as the plaice. Good portion sizes too. Will be returning

Best fish and chips in Hastings according to reviews. I can only confirm. Delicious. Robust but totally friendly service. You should reserve in advance as the store is very busy. We were lucky and got a table. Atmosphere nice but simple. All in all very recommendable!

Place was recommended by friend of mine who is from Hastings. Our experience was 10 out of 10. Small lovely restaurant. Nice view over the fishermen boats. I had the haddock, my girlfriend had the cod, both fresh and amazing. Service was friendly. Really only thing is that the chips will complement better the fresh fish if was fresh too not frozen. However ours was delicious and the tartare sauce was great. Try if you are in the area. Best fish and chips I’ve tried since living in UK

Friendly staff, big portions and fresh catches

We've visited Maggie's on and off over many, many years, but haven't been for at least 3 years. But Maggie's fish and chips are truly worth the wait! We both had cod and chips, mushy peas and gherkins; the chips were perfectly cooked (it's the only portion of chips my wife will eat all of), crispy on the outside tender and tasty on the inside, the fish was covered in delicious and beautifully crispy batter the cod was so well cooked it was flaking apart. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Well worth the money and effort going here, it'll put the icing on your seaside cake!

Great fish and chips! and the sparkling fruit juice is highly recommended, with nice vibe at night,might be better to come at midday in a sunshine day as the beach outside the windows are really beautiful!

Great fish and chips. Had the cod and haddock. Staff perfectly friendly. Would definitely go back. Be interested to try the Skate or Prawns next time.

Alright fish and chips place, I think it's quite overhyped, I've definitely had better fish and chips in margate. The waitress was quite confused and wasn't really sure what was on the menu

We visited Maggies for lunch. We were happy to overlook the 0 pram accessibility. Happy to accept the death seagull that awaited us at the door. My wife was more than happy to change our daughters nappy on her knees cramped into a small toilet cubicle due to the lack of baby changing facilities. All for the promise of supposedly one of the best fish and chips of all time. 4.6 star rated by over 1,000 reviews. In a town where there’s a fish restaurant on every corner, we thought we’d hit the jackpot. Unfortunately, no…….we really hadn’t. The food was flavourless. The batter was soggy. The chips seemed like knock off McCain oven chips. Really really disappointing. Good points - locally sourced soft drinks.

A disappointing birthday treat. Dirty drinking glasses. Incomplete food orders, somethings never arrived at all. We were unhappy with the fish, The Plaice had curled up, usually the sign of being put into too hot oil .And as every one complained frozen chips and peas. A very busy Sunday lunch. Our two meals cost£40 This was for one course and one drink..

Fish was absolutely beautiful but the plate was spoilt by having big fat frozen chips if you want to be recognised as a wonderful fish and chip restaurant please make the effort to serve real chip shop chips.

Advised to eat here by a family member as we usually eat elsewhere when in Hastings. Restaurant was full when we arrived but a small table was found for us.Gorgeous restaurant with wonderful view over the sea.Food arrived promptly, service good. The fresh fish was beautifully cooked and delicious!!! Unfortunately we were massively disappointed by the frozen pre made chips that you would find in your freezer at home they were cooked ok but the did not deliver the seaside experience that you would hope. Watery curry sauce topped off this unfortunate meal.Disappointing as we had such high hopes. Expensive for what it was won’t return.x

One of the best fish and chip I've had for ages.

Came to Hastings for the day and decided to treat my family to dinner, we found Maggie's online it had great reviews. After spending a bit of time debating we finally found it. To our delight the food was absolutely lovely the batter was just crispy enough and not greasy at all. Best fish and chips in a long time enjoyed every bit. 100% recommend

If it's not cold or windy, it's spectacular.

We were incredibly lucky to get a table without booking. Where else is there this good in Hastings? Nowhere!! We were seated quickly on the last remaining table by a lady run off her feet who was lovely. Even though she was super busy she was still kind, polite and happy to chat. The food was out this world. The cod was delicious and the chips magnificent (and I’m not a chip eater). The tartare sauce is homemade and just proper lush. When food is prepared and cooked fresh for you you don’t mind waiting for it to be cooked. It was magnificent. My advice? BOOK IN ADVANCE! Best place on the south coast and I’ve been to many!!!

The descent from Best in Class to poor came as a big shock. Batter thin, pale and not crispy like before and chips not fresh cut but from frozen - Very disappointing

OMG the CHIPS!!!! THE CHIPS!!!! Hard to make Fish N Chips special but they did. Service was very good. It was a damp day and the window was open so it was a little chilly in the restaurant.

Lovely meal very filling we had fish chips mushy peas and two drinks. My 93 year old friend said it’s good fresh fish and for a change he was right

We were in Hastings on holiday from the north east and had read good reviews about maggies being the best so thought we would give it a try what I found was very overpriced disappointing food ,chips frozen fish cake has plenty carrots and little fish plus £7 for a tiny fish cake is a disgrace. Fish on the small side and very little taste. I would avoid at all costs.

Friends recommended Maggie's and I wasn't disappointed. It's small and was fully booked for lunch but the very friendly staff still managed to squeeze me in. The serving of cod and chips (£14.80 at time of writing) was huge. Beautifully fresh cod, light batter, chips not greasy. The fish is cooked to order, so there's a slight wait which is definitely worth it.

We used Maggie’s Fish & Chips van as the food supplier for our wedding and we cannot recommend them enough! Not only was the food highly complimented by all of our guests (some of whom have said that it’s ruined all future fish and chips for them!) but the service was fantastic and the van was the perfect addition to our festival wedding theme.

This was the BSET fish and chips I’ve ever had! the skin was preserved on one side of the cod, fried to crispy, when the meat remained soft, juicy and fresh. It tasted very delicious and the feeling in my mouth was so good. This cosy cafe seem to be transformed ex-nets? Small but very cosy, with lovely viewing of the coast and fishermen’s pier. I would recommend a pre-booking, they seem to be busy from 6pm on.

We gad a takeaway, so can't really comment on service or atmosphere, but the fish and chips were scrummy.

Very hostile place to order a take away, the view inside the restaurant is nice if you do eat in. Also forgot to put the paid for sauces in the order so had to go back which then meant the food went cold.

Huge portions for the hungry. Very nice batter, Booking in advance advised as very busy. Not quite so keen on the chips though. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

The food was scrumptious, I kept hearing about Maggies, so glad I finally paid a vist

I had a takeaway haddock and chips with mushy peas. Usually I can never finish my portion as I find fish and chips very filling, but this was so delicious and well cooked that I ate the lot. Perfect crispy chips which are fluffy on the inside. All the takeaway sauces, salt and pepper were nicely placed into a brown paper bag. Highly recommended.

Maggie's Fish and Chips are excellent! We called in for lunch. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. My wife is Gluten Free but her fish was specially prepared so that it was not battered. The portion sizes were more than ample and very good value for money. If you enjoy fish and chips, then Maggie's is the place to go to.

The fish that we had was very nice, but disappointed in the size. Ours looked particular small compared to other tables. It appeared to be a childs size rather than an adults. Staff very friendly.

Booked a table for lunch - good job as it was very busy and people were being turned away. (That said I did notice staff trying to work out how to accommodate walk ins around reservations) Food was excellent - crisp and fresh, and more than enough. Monkfish made a change and was delicious. Staff were quick and attentive. Not the cheapest fish n chips but we added in extra drinks as we were celebrating - came to just short of £66 for 3. Will definitely return.

We had a great dinner with friends visiting Hastings. Food was great, fish seemed to be fresh. Our waitress wasn’t particularly friendly and some things we had to ask twice. But perhaps she was just tired. We still had a great experience 👍🏻

It's was our 2nd time here.the 1st time was out of this world.we pre booked as yet again it was packed out by 12.15 . the food was fantastic fabulous excellent bloody good and all the little added touches like the post card, the views.but on a down side we did ask for bills they said they would but never did the two we was with are tight so that meant we paid for some of there meal.we Will be back on our own

Lovely place, excuse the pun!. And food good. I had cod n chips with mushy peas, and I asked for 1 slice of bread n butter but I think they were scared of spreading the butter!!. But overall, I,d say give it a go.

I went there with my friends family ordered takeaway. When I received my order I asked some ketchup and a girl who works there said your friend took a lot. OK, I thanks to her and I left shop. I went to the beach to meet my friends and I asked about ketchup. My friend said I've got only 2 she orderd 3chips Nd given 2 is that a lot? I order 3cod and chips and got only 1 ketchup, seriously? Why did you lie? I don't understand you guys. Never go there again

Not nice at all and totally totally overrated based on our experience. We were first customers of the day and the fish was not fresh. Didn't enjoy it at all and left a very fishy after taste. I'd recommend going elsewhere I'm hastings

Fish fresh from the English Channel, skillfully prepared, served quickly and piping hot. Chips (French fries) crispy after a second frying. Large portions. Larger groups should reserve in advance.

We made a telephone booking for 7 for lunch and we were lucky to have done so as the place was packed. That said, service was smooth and the food and drink arrived reasonably quickly. The prawns were fabulous, as was the calamari. The fish and chips were divine (both cod and haddock) and for a group of 7 with drinks our bill was under £150 including service. Great place, great food, great service. Views were also very fine! Do make an effort to go if you are in Hastings.

Absolutely rubbish, ordered on entrance, waited half an hour, order did not reach kitchen, dirty, unorganised, and staff not very friendly .. did not wait for food but definitely will not return! Shame as had high reviews and walked passed 10 other shops to get there 😔

We were parked at the Rock-A-Nore end of Hastings and at the end of the day fancied fish and chips on the beach for tea, we found Maggie's a short walk from the car park, we ordered our tea and we're told it would be ready in about 20 minutes, we returned 20 minutes later and our order was ready, sat on the beach we tucked into some of the best fish and chips we have had for a long time, great cod freshly battered and fried and crisp fluffy chips. Well worth a visit, they also have an eat-in restaurant that we will try a different time.
