Madhuban in East Hampshire

It’s a few years since we’ve been to this restaurant and we had many good experiences in the past. Sadly, this visit was less than impressive. Our relatively early evening booking saw poppadoms and pickle tray delivered. One dipping pot was chipped in several places and really should be discarded in the bin. Tight servings of the pickle dishes for 6 people - perhaps review the portion sizes you serve as a plain poppadom is little more than a large crisp otherwise. Drinks arrived eventually. Main courses ordered and we sat back and chatted, chatted, chatted…waiting for the plates we used for our poppadoms to be collected from the table. A gentle hint of the customers stacking up these plates eventually caught the attention of the waiter and he came over to remove them from our table. Then we had time to chat, chat, chat, chat whilst waiting for our main course to be served. Thank goodness we didn’t order anything over complicated or starters. After an hour and a quarter we caught one of the waiters and politely asked whether our main course was due to arrive. As if by magic, we were informed we were next and the dishes arrived in a rather haphazard disorganised way, so our group got rice but no curry or their curry but no rice etc. Rice portion sizes were also very small. Several of the dishes served to our group contained chicken - it was tough. The chicken jalfrazi looked like no other chicken jalfrazi I’d ever seen served in a similar restaurant. Very little tomato found within the jalfrazi hence it appeared rather too dark brown ( I know recipes differ). It was disappointing to see that tables are no longer covered in table cloths as most appear to be, chipped crockery, long waits before being served, waiters running in the restaurant, waiters carrying 4 plates, 4 rice dishes, plates of naan bread whilst serving customers - no serving trolleys or trays used. There was lots of rushing around by staff and perhaps far too many customers in the restaurant for the staff to cope with. Yes, it was busy, but when customers are forced to wait exceptionally long for their meals to arrive, the quality of cooking and ingredients, small portion sizes of dishes you start to question whether it’s worth going there again? Sadly, our answer to that would be an overwhelmingly no. There are so many other good restaurants in the area - Whitehill and Alton where service, quality of food and portion sizes are so good why would you want to return? Which is such a shame because in previous years we’ve had good food and a good experience here. I just wonder what has happened to change this? Maybe more staff are needed or spread table booking times so your kitchen and waiting staff aren’t so overwhelmed.

Very disappointing! I have been using this restaurant and take away for decades, it pains me to say that this was the 3rd poor take away I have had on the trot (and the last two restaurant visits were bad also). I am not one to readily complain and have given a fair chance for things to improve due to the many, MANY years of fantastic food and service I had previously received, I will not be coming back again. Tomato stew for Chicken tikka masala, not Fried rice and a dry mixed grill …for £45!

Excellent service, food and atmosphere. Our first visit and we will definitely be returning as there were so many choices we wanted but had to pick just one so a great reflection of the delicious menu! Thank you for having the skill to create such amazing flavours.

A deeply upsetting evening. We ordered a Murgh Deluxe which is minced meat wrapped in chicken. The minced meat was stone cold - straight from the fridge. The food came out very rapidly suggesting the poor use of microwaves and no checking of temperature. Ruined our evening. This restaurant used to be really good but we will not be going back. We at least were not asked to pay for the food or the beer we had just started. Only took the owners a year to comment on our review!

Just a perfect place to eat. So attentive, such ambience, food so utterly tasty, vast choice. I cannot fault this favourite restaurant of mine. A perfect evening. We will be back, time and time again.

First time I have visited this place Staff very friendly and welcoming...Good start. I got home (5min drive) and opened my chicken tikka MAIN... they were warm ish but rubbery. sag alo...not hot at all And the naan was cold. Such a shame as everyone raved about this place. Maybe it's better when you sit in and eat.

Most of the food was cold and pretty flavourless. Could easily do better at home so not worth the money.

The curry was awful no flavour at all and really watery

Amazingly well presented and behaved staff. The food is also amazing and Bedar is such a gentlemen - alongside the food experience, he warming and welcoming nature makes us enjoy the evening even more every time we go.

I've eaten here twice now and both times the food has been excellent. I'd go as far as saying its the best curry I've had!....And I've had quite a few. There is so much flavour in the food which makes it stand out from our curry houses who use too much oil. The staff and management team are also incredibly polite and welcoming. A must on your list and very close to Liss train station too if you want to travel from far awzy / have a drink or two with your meal. 5 Stars!

delivery was more or less on time. The food was another story. Delivered luke warm. Chicken Korma, watery and tasteless. Lamb passant was a hard as shoe leather and bland. (it looked like the sauce had split). Sag Panner took 4 sheets of kitchen paper to soak up the excess oil and the spinach still had twigs on it. The rice was mostly peas. However the Onion Bhaji was nice and crisp. Not going to order from there again.

Delicious food and lovely staff. We (a table of three) booked the day before. The food was absolutely delicious, I tried everything we all ordered. The lamb was beautifully cooked, just fell apart and the portion sizes were just right. Not so much that you're uncomfortably or too full, just right. Staff were friendly, couldn't have been more polite or helpful Thank you very much

Good meal. Just enough people on a Sunday evening to generate a good atmosphere. Food was very tasty and portion sizes spot on. Just need to order less naans, 1 is enough for 3 people. Will not have the Calcutta Calamari again, expected a bit more spice.

Beyond expectations - the food was hot when it arrived and tasted fantastic. If you fancy something different and unique, this is where to get it from. We will certainly order again and will be in the restaurant soon !

One of my favourite tandoori restaurants in the local area. The food is superb- I tried the madhuban special this time and it was👌🏼 the staff are so lovely, the owner/manager always remembers our family and it’s such a special touch.

Thirteen CCC members made their summertime pilgrimage across to East Hampshire to an old Club favourite having booked a couple of weeks in advance. Previously used Covid screening areas, which are still very useful at giving individual tables some privacy, were dismantled in advance to get us all on one long table. We were warmly received by the senior staff as usual. The menu had been updated in February’22, since the previous full club visit and contains an impressive selection of main courses, most of which are bespoke to this venue. The ‘Jungli Mas’ was particularly popular. The staff spoke with authority responding to Members questions about some of the dishes that they had not seen before. (The sauces of many dishes are available commercially from their sister ‘Honey Garden Sauces’ business). As is the case with large groups, chatting prior to service, some of the Members had forgotten what they’d ordered. This was no problem for the excellent staff who quickly rectified any issues. It was noticed that a high volume of takeaway collections and outgoing deliveries was noted – none of this detracted from the activity in the restaurant. You can guarantee a great culinary experience here, and at good value for money. No wonder this restaurant keeps winning awards! - IC

This is an Excellent Indian Restaurant. The food is superb. Every Dish is distinguishable from the next. The Ambience is good & it’s always Busy. We will definitely be back.

Had a date night here on Saturday - not my first visit for sure but had not been for a year or so. Atmosphere was lovely - not loud but a nice level of conversation in the busy restaurant. The staff are polite and respectful and the boss man is very welcoming and friendly and you always feel like he remembers you from the last visit!! Oh, and food was awesome - like it always has been!

Fantastic food in pleasant surroundings where staff are always charming. It’s the only place my hubby will go to eat out.

Ordered a takeaway to include a Thai Green Chicken Curry which is on their menu and received a chicken curry with Thai green chillies chopped in it !!!! Was disgusting and the chicken was substandard and rubbery . I’ve been going here for 35 years and recently the food has been below standard . Very disappointing. We used to go once a week now it’s once every 3 months !

We go here a lot for family meals. It's consistently good, I don't think we have ever had any problems. Excellent, friendly staff who know how to treat customers.

Food was Luke warm when it arrived. The rice was missing. Rang and they asked what I would like them to do, deliver it or not have rice. Took a further 20 minutes for the rice to be delivered. Not ideal. They did apologise and they did put it right, but I would expect this to be a better service if you are paying nearly £40 for a meal for 2 people. Probably won’t be ordering from them again.

I had a delicious meal tonight celebrating a family members birthday. The service and food was outstanding. I will be coming back for another meal or two.

From my point of view The best Indian Tandoori restaurant I have ever seen.First of all they warmly welcomed us when we reached there. Really such kind a nice service, atmosphere, affordable price as well.Everything is very neat and tidy.All staff are very friendly and smiling face.Hope next time we will go there.

We really enjoyed our time here great atmosphere , very nice welcome upon arrival. Polite amiable staff they were very happy to giving attention to our request about food. The food was delicious and the end we ordered some desserts and coffee which was unbelievable. Can highly recommend.

Madhuban is a fantastic indian restaurant. Madhuban is a neat and clean restaurant . It's food very delicious and service is very fantastic.

Really impressed with the food and service. The decorations of the restaurant is mind blowing. The restaurant does not only produce Indian food but also it reflects the culture of the indian subcontinent. What attracted me most was the wooden statues of various dancing characters with numerous instruments. The waiters are well mannered and they have excellent knowledge about customer preferences. The food was delicious as always. So, from my experience I would love to suggest everyone to visit this restaurant for a wonderful experience.

Food was delivered on time, I had chicken korma, keema naan and shami kebabs. The food was cold when it arrived, the chicken korma seemed to be heavily watered down and tasteless, the kebabs were ok but incredibly dry. The naan was fine. It's a good job I was hungry as otherwise I would have sent it back, very disappointing

Service was first class, the wife can't have dairy or gluten which can cause problems whenever we go out but the guy here who I assume is the owner asked what she likes and made her a starter and a main from scratch which she enjoyed very much. It was the best jalfrezi I've had in a long time and the onion bajis were amazing Otherwise the other staff were lovely and the prices were good. I would highly recomend

Went yesterday after a long time since my last take away which always was my favourite so really looked forward to it, only to be served old food with weird texture or undercooked, they did ask why we left the food so we told them and brought all new later which was better but just the fact we had that made it, we won't be coming back unfortunately, hope the take away is still good...

So we took this and made do. The 1 they brought to the table was 18 months out of date. First Server looked at us like we were mad when we highlighted this and took far more effort that it should to get them to agree to this issue. Replaced with standard beers. Starters - Onion bhaaji was average, calamari was excellent. Mains - Special Korma Mirchwangan - excellent. Chapati was poor. Desert - had the menus put on our table, and then immediately taken off our table and replaced with the bill, without having any opportunity to order. Overall just a real shame, could be a really nice and decent place, but lack of attention to detail and poor service really left a poor impression. Doubt ill be back,

Not a bad meal at all with lamb pasanda, coconut rice and a coke and not too badly priced with good portions but they just can't wait to get you out of the door.

I had 2 curries, samosa's and popadoms with sauce and have to say this is the best curry I've had in years. Well cooked, spicy but not too hot (I had "medium"), not too salty, great flavours. I'm really impressed with this place! Will absolutely be coming back for more.

We selected of the curry pots available from a Blue Diamond garden center, unfortunately the first one tasted like pure vinegar. Not sure what might have gone wrong and no contact details to inform the company.

Beautiful place, very friendly very nice food

I was told this curry house has won lots of awards and was really good! Anyway I sat down was handed a scruffy menu and was soon being asked to order. They were quite busy and about 10 or so people, has just ordered so I thought this could take a while. Anyhow I was really surprised when my food came out literally 3 minutes later! This rang alarm bells to me as I thought how can you cook proper fresh food so fast this does not make any sense and I’ve eaten in thousands of curry houses to know good from bad. I asked them when I ordered to make the food spicy as it was not at all so I had to send it back. Anyway when it arrived again about 1 minute later it was slightly spiced but did not taste at all fresh and did look even look nice, even the vegetable side dish or the rice were not freshly cooked.. The food did not agree with me and I will never be going back there! Terrible food and the place is run like a McDonalds.

Service and food was amazing and worth the visit. A wide selection to suit all tastes and you have the choice to spice it up if you want. Recommend the Nihari lamb shank or the tropical balti both went down well. Good selection of wine or beer too. Will definitely be back

Previous meals have been excellent, but tonight the curry sauce was like water. Both curry & rice were completely bland, no flavour, no seasoning? I threw more than half away. Extremely disappointing compared to previous meals. So much so, that I actually rang the restaurant to check that it was prepared buy them!

Delivery lady was lovely & apologetic for late delivery which was kind and a most welcome comment. Food was very tasty, not as hot as I had hoped but it had come a distance to home address ( maybe a thermal type bag similar to pizza delivery) Loved my Green Thai curry, it was Fab so so tasty 👍

Wow what a little secret this one is, my son came here couple months ago for a works night out and suggested we try it, so glad we did one of the best Tikk masala Ive ever had and everyone said the same there was 4 of us in the group all had different currys result the same, superb service and great beer a definite top of our list for a curry night

We ordered food for 36 guests in June, Bedar advised us as to which dishes to choose for a buffet style lunch. We adjusted one of the dishes with aubergine instead of okra and this was noted. We collected a heated buffet container the day...
