Madeira Way Restuarant in Eastbourne

Visited for Sunday lunch, family of 8 all of whom ordered something different so not particularly easy for chef given everything is cooked to order. Everyone enjoyed the experience, food excellent and passed around to try each others dishes. Because it's fresh cooked be prepared to wait a while but,having been a few times it's invariably worth it. Good quality, fair value and good service.

We came to this restaurant as a family as my husband is Portuguese and we would have no issues when discussing the menu as I've got coeliac disease (gluten free). But OMG how mistaken I was! To begin with there's only one waiter to serve all tables which then took at least 20 minutes before we were able to order drinks. When we finally got talking about the food and allergens it became clear how clueless this guy was and how arrogant and disrespectful towards us he became. He has no idea what allergens are, no idea how to treat costumers who try to explain to him what the correct information is - he simply turned nasty and told us he had "no time to waste with us as there were people waiting to be served." I'm not expecting to be treated any different from anyone, far from it, but as a paying costumer I expect to be respected just like everyone else. He was rude, disrespectful, obtuse and absolutely awful. As a business who should be aware of potential allergens that could kill their costumers it is clear that this restaurant doesn't care about any of it. If you are thinking of ever eating at this place, think twice, not only because of the lack of knowledge towards allergens, but because of the way they treat their costumers despite it all. I wouldn't even give a 1 star to this place! That man needs to learn some manners or look for another job where he doesn't need to see another human being!! Absolutely Disgraceful! If anyone from this place would like to give me a call so I can educate them in allergens or even in good manners, I'm here.

Sunday lunchtime. The food was nothing special at all, you order your main and if you wish to have potatoes, salad or veg wirh your meal you have to order them as a side so not cheap, i had chicken cordon blue which was just 2 fried breaded chicken breasts with a slice of ham and cheese sandwiched in between, husband had scabbard which was quite tasteless. I will say the garlic bread was nice though. The waiter although polite and professional was far from friendly and welcoming. Sorry but will not be returning

The wife and I visited on 03/02/22 and both had the maderia way steak which was very flavoursome and cooked to perfection, we both had cheesecake for dessert which again was first class and probably twice the size of anywhere else you are liable to eat, the service was a little slow hence the 4 stars, so if you don't mind a little bit of a wait for some fantastic food at A VERY GOOD PRICE!! Then give it a try

Very tasty Portuguese dishes & very reasonably priced wines. The steak skewer was great. Somehow we were the only customers at the time, but we were able to enjoy ourselves.

Great authentic Portuguese/Madeiran food. Especially good fish. Ask the waiter to recommend. My favourite is the grilled sardine salad and the pork or lamb chops which are huge! They do the traditional hanging beef skewers which are really good also. Good ambiance always lots of local Portuguese eating here. Prices really good for the food. It’s a family run restaurant so if you want fast service go to a chain. The food is worth the wait, just take good company and enjoy the meal.

Encantador restaurante que ofrece auténticos platos portugueses. Visitamos el jueves a la hora del almuerzo y, aunque éramos las únicas personas en el restaurante (lo cual es una verdadera pena, ya que es una pequeña joya), el camarero creó un ambiente hogareño. La comida era muy buena. Nuestros entrantes eran encantadores, pan de ajo suave y gambas llenas de sabor. Como plato principal teníamos estofado de ternera y bistec y champiñones. Ambos platos fueron cocinados a la perfección y tiernos y jugosos. Las patatas salteadas eran increíbles. En general, excelente relación calidad-precio y vale la pena buscar si estás en Eastbourne.

Run by a great husband and wife team from Madeira and like all the people i have ever met in Madeira they are excellent hosts and very friendly even when i practised my limited Portuguese with them . It was only a lunch time visit so we had Bolo do caco and Prego washed down with Sagres .Fantastic value for money and we will definitely return one evening even though it's not exactly local to us . This is not the first time I came to this restaurant. I always liked it. This time I ordered a whole seabrean. I have to say it was fantastic. I opened the fish in half it was stuffed of garlic butter. How nice! on top with lemon slices and fabulous crispy skin. I drunk reguengos portuguese wine which was also very good. in the end I drank a crf house offering. I highly recommend having a meal here.

We found the restaurant by chance and had a wonderful meal that was reasonably priced, as was the delicious house wine. The owner was friendly and informative and such was the quality of the food that we booked in for our 2nd night in town. This time we ordered a dish that requires 24 hrs notice. It contained pork, chicken, beef, sausage plus several vegetables cooked to a traditional recipe and was well worth the anticipation !An excellent restaurant with a friendly and helpful owner and brilliant chef, his wife ! The kitchens were proudly shown to us and were scrupulously clean. Definitely recommended.

Food was very good when finally got it,quiet night taking nearly an hour for a chicken dish (allowing for the fact it is cooked from scratch)if it was going to take that long could have advised us to have a starter! White wine just placed on table no wine cooler offered.Asked for another drink from bar also asked for a glass of water neither arrived.Were not asked if the meal was ok or everything was ok-because everything was not alright!.

Found this restaurant by chance whilst staying the weekend in Eastbourne. Hubby had Pork chops and I had steak with egg. The meal was plentiful and the choice of sides good. We liked it so much we took 6 members of our family back the next night. We had a variety of choices across the menu from Octopus to steak and everyone of the group said how good it was. Wine was only £13 a bottle. The meals were such good value I would have easily paid double the price. The steak egg rice chips and salad was £8!!!! The décor was very pleasant. As soon as we walked in the 2nd night the waiter advised us there was a staff toilet our elderly mother could use as the main toilets were downstairs

Me and my partner visited on the 27th August. The food was amazing and so so tasty. My partner had the steak with mushrooms and I had the beef skewer. The best I've had. You must try the Yogurt pudding a must try.

It was the best part of my day today, able to enjoy Portuguese delicious food, cooked by Portuguese, just exactly the same if I were in Portugal

First appearance is deceptive, as at first it looked like a burger bar from the outside. Closer inspection of the menu lured us in and we were delighted with what was inside. The welcome was charming, the food exceptionally good and the prices very reasonable. Everything is cooked to order, so if you are looking for fast food you should move on. The best food does take time to prepare and the cooking here is done with loving care. We returned for a second meal the following night and were treated like old friends. We will return.

We visited this Restaurant on a Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised about the quality and quantity of food we received. all food is cooked with fresh ingredients and cooked to order. The drinks are reasonable priced too. Two of the group had Sardines for starters. The sardines were amazing, served well seasoned and so well cooked. The salads for starters were of a high standard too! It was so difficult to choose what to have for mains as everything sounded so good and were served with a generous portions of two sides. The beef skewers, steaks and fish dishes are a good choice. The puddings are homemade and once again huge portions are served. My advise to you is to make sure you go to this Restaurant with an empty stomach, you will definitely have a great experience.

La comida estaba fuera de este mundo, yo diría que fue la mejor comida en un restaurante que he comido. Es un restaurante tradicional. Ensalada fresca bien probarlo.

Loved all the food we have ordered here. Prawns starter was delicious, & stew was lovely. "Green Wine" is worth a try too :) Highly recommended.

The food was ok. Nothing special. However the service and was terrible. The owner was clearly not happy to be working. I will never go back again and will never recommend it.

My daughter and I ate at the restaurant yesterday evening. The food was superb! As was our waitress Maria who was attentive throughout and very helpful regarding our choice of dishes.

Our third visit to this delightful restaurant on Saturday evening,, each visit just gets better and better! It takes me back to madeira and the algarve in Portugal for a few hours by the exquisite food and especially the fish and seafood,, it is by far the most marvellous intruduction to the cuisine of Portugal , take a step back from the usual Italian, Chinese, Indian and Spanish restaurants! Give madeira and Portugal a try!! You'll be delighted, it is a stunning comfortable restaurant and so clean and welcoming and the staff are very friendly and accommodating,, bom apetito

we were wandering around Eastbourne looking for a suitable restaurant when two customers who had just eaten in the Madeira Way told us of their excellent meal. On this basis we decided to eat there also. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, as was the service, the atmosphere of the restaurant was enjoyable and most of all we were delighted at the cost of our meal. A very reasonable price for what was an extremely delicious and enjoyable meal. Highly recommended.

This is the closest you can get to traditional Madeiran food without leaving the UK. We had great service and the restaurant was very clean. The food was reasonably priced and the portion sizes were very generous. The beers served were Portuguese brands, only slightly disappointed the Coral beer was bottled not draught. The fish was fresh. I tried the picadinho ( beef stew) and enjoyed a large serving with fries and milho frito ( fried cornmeal). Do not go here if you want to go elsewhere in a hurry, as the food is freshly cooked to order

The restaurant was tastefully furnished. Service excellent. Food marvellous. Not too pricey, but not somewhere we would wish to eat every night.

Stumbled across the Madeira Way while spending a weekend in Eastbourne.....and what a great find! Food was great and reasonably priced and a good selection of drinks (opted for the green wine!). Service was friendly and welcoming. A lovely evening and would definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

We found this restaurant by chance on a friends birthday weekend. Partly by luck, because it was near to our apartment and the weather was cold and wet!

We tried this restaurant for the first time this week but it certainly won't be the last. The manager was very welcoming and explained various dishes as well as offering excellent recommendations.

We had a great experience at Madeira Way. The service was welcoming and attentive. We were explained the menu and given recommendations which we gladly followed. The food was cooked to perfection, very flavorsome. The sangria is to die for, we managed to make some room for dessert and it was the perfect ending for a great meal. This is the perfect place for a good meal to be enjoyed, everything was cooked from fresh.

We are regulars at this restaurant. We really like the beef skewers & fresh salad that accompanies the main course. The quality of ingredients is excellent. The service is attentive & friendly. Great coffee too.

The staff as per usual were excellent and the food is up to its usual high standard, I will let you know that if you order maderia bread with garlic then make sure that you are going to share it as it is rather large for a starter, and you do not want to be to full to be able to eat your main course as it is excellent.

this restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening which was odd as the food here is excellent. We had steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and could do no more. A really nice experience. The toilets were also spotless which is a good sign (a clean toilet normally means a clean kitchen). I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Tuve una experiencia horrible con este restaurante. Nos pide una comida tradicional de Madeira picado. Las patatas fritas eran sin cocer y correosos. Me llevó casi una hora para que éste sea preparado. Nos dijo que no estaba preparado y el gerente dijo que la manera en que debe hacerse cuando sé muy bien que no es como soy originaria de Madeira y saben muy bien cómo debe hacerse. Muy mal. me and my other half came to Eastbourne for our anniversary this weekend and tonight we stumbled upon this restaurant,menu looked ok from the outside but I was so hungry we went in..and so glad we did! we was welcomed by a friendly chap who showed us to our table and gave us the menu. He was very attentive and seemed to be in tune with our wants as customers we started off with the king prawn starter with delish homemade garlic bread, my fella had the tbone with veg and saute potatoes which were amazing,tbone ibhad the sirloin with veg and saute potatoes,sirloin everything was cooked perfect. we finished with a banoffee pie and mango cheesecake both homemade and absolutely beautiful. loved our experience from start to finish! thank u! will definitely be coming back and next time I think I'l be trying those skewers that u were bringing out to the other customers...they looked deliciously awesome!

Two adults and three kids. We go out eating a lot with the kids and wasn't sure if they would enjoy it here. Turns out they loved it! We ordered four mains and a soup, and shared between us. Roast chicken, cordon bleu, grilled pork and beef skewers. And an orange corte, two jellies and one ice-cream to finish. Good value and will most likely visit again!
