A lovely venue on the seafront with a warm and inviting interior. The owners are always present and engaged in the day to day running of the business. A good mix if seafood, Belgian traditional dishes and burgers. The dressed crab with fresh bread os a great light lunch. Or a huge pot of mussels with their homemade fries is a safe option.

Good food and selection of drinks but certaim bar staff members do not make you feel welcome

During my week-long trip to Eastbourne, I'll definitely revisit this restaurant, probably on a Friday or Saturday evening, to enjoy mussel platters, beer, and live music! The seafood tomato pasta was as rich and delightful as a dish found in a high-end hotel, and the pork ribs were sweet with a hint of tanginess and saltiness, served in impressive portions. The beautiful interior of the restaurant is perfectly suited for Instagram photo spots, and the serving staff always maintained a friendly demeanor with smiles.

Havn’t had food here yet so can’t leave a rating on that (Menu looking tasty!!) however the atmosphere and service is amazing. You gotta try the little taster of belgium beers. Absolutely amazing selection of beers and different alcohol suited to your needs. Thanks guys 🍺❤️

Initially came to purchase take away beer when visiting Eastbourne. Been back a few times. Excellent atmosphere and service. Thank you Stephanie for tonight's amazing food. Mussels, Oysters. Escargots and, of course, fantastic beer. So glad we came on Friday 13th. Music was super 😃 Returned on Thursday 9th Feb Mussels 👌

Came here today for a spot of late lunch greeted at the door wonderfully by a member of staff and seated stright away. busy! ...... I'm giving 5 stars for service purely because their were only two members of staff at FOH, working their bottoms off. And well done to them !!!! 👏 Food took a while understandable during short staff and time of day. Location beautiful and quirky inside. Food was tasty.. The goats cheese and caramelised onion was a little disappointing. (Recommend more caramelised onion !!! Would of been spot on... ) The ribs where pretty dry. Could of done with a salad on the dish to help break it up abit. Mac and cheese tapas on the other hand was bloody epic and so flavoursome highly recommend this dish! All over experiences was ok and I would come back again I think short staffing didn't help matters and we'll done to those who where working today. Thank you for your service and friendliness

Ate there a few weeks ago with the wife. Both had burgers which were good and large. My wife went back last Friday with 2 of our neighbours, they all enjoyed it, so we'll go again.

Our male server immediately asked if we had any allergy and proceeded to tell us a list of all the menu items that were off! Not a good start! The Belgian menus were inviting but mayonnaise was in a sachet. A Belgian kitchen that does not even make its own mayo! Sadly the mussels with cheese were lacking in cheese. We were not impressed with the cooking. This restaurant has a great site on the sea front with views of the pier. Had some great meals here in the past but today it was very disappointing. We will not return.

£6.30 for a 1/2 pint of beer.....NEVER AGAIN !!!

Lovely friendly atmosphere and the staff are amazing. The food was very good probably made wrong choice on the langostine I like to eat not pick...my fault but the rest was so good 👍🏽👍🏽. Thank you will be back to try the mussels soon.

Great food and lovely atmosphere! We went for a family dinner ! We’re served by a staff called Sandrine who was very good at her job! As we was not sure what to order, I asked if she can tell us more about their menu, She was very kind to answer our questions and recommended us which one to order based on our preferences. She also made sure to ask if everything was ok and if we need anything ! It was one of the rainy and windiest day in Eastbourne ! Took us 15 mins walk under the rain to arrive their ! it was worth it! Would love to recommend to others and definitely come back next time!.

When I overnight in Eastbourne just to visit this place is testimony in itself. Superperb, varied food - mussels to die for, staff so friendly that they could almost be your brother and sister. Home crafted Belgian style beers that are just so quaffable. Great atmosphere - recommend without hesitation.

Visited on a Monday evening after a four hour drive to Eastbourne and couldn't have picked a better spot. Very relaxed atmosphere, great staff and the food was tasty. Tried the four tapas option and my wife had blue cheese mussels from a choice of 25 different mussel dishes! The rest of the menu looked great too. We also had dessert, shared a bottle of delicious wine and I had a cider all of which came to a very reasonable £78. Definitely worth a visit!

Poisoned with out of date crab second time. Oysters had just old skin on the shell. You can’t serve not fresh seafood on sea front!

Little gem of a restaurant / bar on Eastbourne seafront. Reasonable prices and lovely cocktails with deals on during the week.

First time in Eastbourne and sadly it was a disappointing trip to The Belgium Cafe. Seafood platter came out - mediocre sauce with the mussels, 2 undercooked langoustines that we had to tell the server about. Immediately he said he’d speak to the chef but didn’t take them with him. On return he said “the chef says they are cooked” There’s no way he’d know unless he opened them himself. I showed him the raw langoustine and said that it wasn’t edible. He came back 25 minutes later with 2 langoustines that were so over cooked I didn’t eat them after my wife cut her finger opening the rock hard shell. It very much felt like the chef was angry and decided to take the piss! Not great for £25 a platter! Shame this wasn’t rectified or compensated. We left without saying anything more. Beer was ok, but nothing special in the fierce competitive market of craft beer.

Really enjoyed their own beers and excellent tapas! This place is a real gem and reasonable prices too. We are locals and rate it highly.

I had been wanting to go here for a long time, but what a disappointment. The mussels were served in what looked like grey dishwater (was meant to be beer and cream) tasted not nice at all, the bread was hard, the fries looked and tasted like the scraps from the bottom of the fryer tasting only of oil. Seafood linguine, very bland and hardly any sauce. It wasn't busy at all there were dirty glasses all over the bar. Such a shame, it could be so much better.

Very learned staff about their drinks, we only had a couple each. I tried their 9% drink, can’t remember what it was called(triple something) and it was delicious. Give it a go for something different. Didn’t sell Hoegarden so a bit disappointed.

We a family of three adults revisited this cafe after 12 years and were not disappointed. To be honest we thought it had closed down so were happy to find it open in a revamped style and new management. The mussels are so good as are the piri piri prawns. We sat outside on a sunny late afternoon. Please try this amazing place.

Definitely the no1 venue in Eastbourne a buzzing cafe with great food! The beer is brewed on the premises, the mussels & seafood all local. It’s dog & family friendly and the beer takes me back to the best beers of Europe very tasty! Added to this they’re members of the Best Bar None Scheme, so a safe place to eat & drink! T

Great food, but extremely slow service. Ordered a beer that never came, got dessert menus and no-one came to take our order, and then we had the classic get the bill and spend 15 minutes trying to flag someone down for a card machine.

Always friendly and efficient however busy. Love popping in for a glass of vino..

Good pub with live music in the evening. Location is perfect as it is very close to the beach and the pier. After a long walk, it is perfect place to go for some drinks and relax with live mild music. Atmosphere is great.

Really liked the options on the menu, the chips were better then what I've had in Belgium. I felt however the beer menu was small, and the seafood platter should have been colder and maybe served on ice. Other than that, food was fresh, tasty and tye service was excellent.

We stumbled across this fabulous bar, and was greeted with a fabulous welcome. There was a great list of of locally brewed beers , and a fabulous array of home infused gins. The service was 5⭐️, highly recommend!

Eastbourne in airshow week is always busy but this place keeps delivering. Nice beers to try but if you want something straightforward drink the IPA. The moules mariniere with frites were delicious, the terrace is a sun trap and it’s a perfect place for people watching. Nice staff as well.

I've been to this cafe quite a few times for mussels without an issue, so we decided to try the seafood platter. What a mistake! Firstly we waited over half an hour for our meals. Two couples that came in after us were both served before us. When I asked why the waitress said they were only eating pasta. Not sure why that makes a difference when we ordered first? She also said that our platter had lots of ingredients to prepare so took a long time, but 5 of the 8 items are cold and pre prepared. The only cooked items were the mussels, langoustines and clams, which take a matter of minutes to cook. One member of our group also ordered felafel, which took a further 8 minutes after the platter was served. The felafel were a soggy mess that tasted like baby food. No sign of chickpeas or any middle eastern spices at all. The garlic bread we ordered was a flat bread with butter, and a sweet paste inside. No garlic whatsoever. All in all a very expensive and disgusting meal. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY 🤢

Don't bother ordering a seafood platter or the felafel. Took almost 40 minutes to get served when the place was empty. Most of our dish is cold and pre prepared, do not sure what the delay was. Felafel was a soft mushy mess. Garlic bread was a sweet flat bread with a little butter on top- no garlic whatsoever! Don't waste your money!

I'm terribly embarrassed to admit that I live across the street from this cafe and until last week I had not been there ...While it's true that I have been down with long covid for a long time, had I any idea that right next door was this exquisite Belgian cafe that serves the most amazing assortment of mussels, fabulous tapas, very nice burgers and belgian chips, a killer Belgian chocolate mousse, and to top it all off brews my favourite Belgian blonde beer downstairs in the micro brewery........sigh. What have I been missing???? To top it off, their prices are fantastic the dining atmosphere is casual and cosy, the service is amazing, the portions are generous... There's live music on Friday and Saturday nights.... And the beer. Did I mention the 🍺🍻? I give it 7 stars. 🤩 It's my new second home!

Had a few nights in this bar and it deserves a positive review. Their own beer is fantastic (we loved the IPA), the staff are great and Jeff (who is a star) mixed us some great cocktails. Thank you guys

I got the 6 oysters on the menu which were delicious! The server was very kind in letting me try a lemonade with grenadine (extra 50p). It wasn’t busy when we went around 4pm. I had to get up in the end to get the bill since it took a while but still a nice experience.

Having moved away from Eastbourne 2yrs ago and returning a few weeks ago, I decided to take some of my family to The Belgian Cafe, a restaurant we had used on a number of occasions previously and one we had always rated very highly for food, service and atmosphere. Sadly on this occasion we found it the complete opposite, in fact scoring 1 star is being very generous. Arriving 15 minutes early for our booking at 6pm, the restaurant was virtually empty, we waited 20mins to get drink and 50mins to get our starters, by which time the restaurant was 80% full. At 7.15pm my daughter asked how long before our main course would be, to which our waitress replied “ There are two tables in front of you and I have just asked the chef to start cooking yours” Bearing in mind the place was virtually empty on our arrival, how is it that cooking two courses of fish cake and salad plus a dressed crab salad take so long that at 7-45, having cancelled our mains we left having paid for the starters and drinks, they compensated us by not charging me for a lemonade and two alcohol free beers. Would we go back there? Not a Cat in Hells chance.

Won't be going back! Each time has got more disappointing and tonight tipped the scales. We ended up leaving after 1hr 45 having not had our mains...this probably says enough. The bar was literally covered with dirty glasses which looked terrible! Shame as has the potential to be a great place but quality has gone downhill, prices gone right up and obviously not enough kitchen staff to handle more than one or two tables!

I really like the place, usually go there whenever I'm around in Eastbourne. Good drinks and the staff are friendly, ambience is quite humble but the bar has a warm vibe to it. Haven't tried the food yet, will do at some point.

Situated on the seafront it specialises in seafood on this visit we didn't eat. It has over 50 Belgium bottled beers. The cafe houses down below in the Cellar Bear Me Brewery, a great range of Beers and Ipas. This place is a Eastbournes little secret. Well worth a visit. 2nd August 2023 Revisited The Belgium Cafe & Bear Me Brewery. This time we had food and drinks. Marcela took good care of us. For starters I had Snails in Garlic, my wife had Salmon Gravalax. My main was Platter 1, my wife had Chilli Prawn Linguine. The portions were generous and very reasonably priced. l for dessert had a Raspberry Panacotta. I washed my meal down with a pint of Mango Unchained and a special on the day a pint of Lychee White beer both very nice. My wife had 3 Bombay Sapphire & slimline tonics. There is a large selection of Gins available . Burgers, Ribs and other favourites like Mac & Cheese available. I would recommend the seafood. We look forward to revisiting again soon.

This bar was one of my highlights for beer and food the last time I was in town four years ago. So being in town for the tennis again I was eager to pay it a return visit. Largely unchanged from my remembrances except that the communal bench seating that was in the left hand section have now been replaced with proper tables for 2 and 4 people. On the beer front, again much as I remember it with 9 of their own craft brews on the pumps and one guest and three of the ones I tried last time were on the pumps again, but again the Oyster Stout they do was missing. And again heavily fruit based with at least three based on Mango and I went for one I hadn’t seen before called Mangoes in Black, a mango infused stout, which was a very strange brew. I got a lot of Mango and precious little stout. I’m not sure how “Belgium” some of these brews are, but if you want the authentic product then the well known Chimay and Duvel brews are available in bottles. We didn’t try the food this time, but the extensive list of mussel dishes was prominent on the menu and I noticed that they had added oysters. I thought this was still a good bar and a decent alternative to the many traditional boozers in town.

Chips left a little too be desired, ( seemed a bit stale, perhaps just the time of day) otherwise a really nice meal, mussels with blue cheese and bacon. Staff very pleasant and helpful, they didn’t have the oyster stout I asked for, but the lovely lady gave me a couple of small tasters to help me choose an alternative. Chose Dubble Trubble, complemented the mussels beautifully. I can certainly recommend this place and expect to go back again myself. No real atmosphere at the time of day I was there, but can imagine it would be nice later on and at weekends.

Popped into the Belgian Café for a drink after a meal down the road. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the place was busy. We had no problems finding a seat and with a view of the sea too.

Our first visit and we loved it Great friendly customer service! Primarily the menu comprises of seafood. Also various burgers on the menu. A good selection unsurprisingly, of Belgian beers are available. Other beers also available. A good dessert menu, but there was only one choice really. Belgian waffle, chocolate source and cream. Delicious. I would highly recommend a visit to the Belgian Cafe if you find yourself in Eastbourne

Food is ok, not great. What bothered us the most, was a very unfriendly waiteress. We were there for a nice evening with the family, but didn’t order any coffee or dessert. Every question or order was obviously too much asked.

Have been coming here for years. Good food, solid selection of Belgian beers and hospitable staff. Portions seem to be smaller than they were before, and staff not as attentive as in the past. But still one of the best places to eat out in Eastbourne in my opinion.

I travel down to Eastbourne from London many times a year and this is used to be a good place to go for a real ale / locally made beer. The last 2 times I have been, a lot of the beers were "sold out"...

The food and staff were amazing

Really friendly place, good beer, great staff. I'm not a massive fan of mussels, but I thought I'd give them a try as it's their specialty, they were delicious. The only thing stopping me from giving a 5 was that the service was a little slow. We both would have had another drink and maybe dessert if the service was on point, maybe they were down a member of staff? We'll come back for another visit and hope the service is as good as the place deserves.

When we visited the place was almost empty and while the food was fresh and tasty, it took almost an hour. It messed with our plans for the day and we'd rather never stayed if we knew this is how long it takes for them to prepare things. Can't recommend

This seafood restaurant only take less than 5 minutes walk from Eastbourne pier. They serve fresh seafood and variety of Belgian beers. We had a seafood platter for two, oysters and mussels cooked with herbs lemon. The seafood platter for two comes with a small bowl of Marinière Mussels, prawns, sashimi salmon and oysters. Another Herbs Lemon Mussles was served with homemade Belgian fries, bread and butter. The seafood was paired with dry white wine. It was perfect match!
