Whatever it says on Google, this chippy isn’t open every weekday with much safer bets on weekends. On a sunny day with events on Madeira Drive (like today), it is a GREAT place to perch yourself, watch the action roll by over some Fish (or Scampi) & Chips. We ordered two large F&C (£11 each). Though a tad oily, it was a lovely piece of haddock: meaty, coated in a light and very crispy batter. You get your usual sachet condiments e.g. malt vinegar, mayo, ketchup etceteras. I did wonder why the guy on the next table picked his fish with his hands and chomped away much like a sandwich. It figures: you will get a flimsy wooden fork with your order, no knife nor, spoon. Despite this, still the best Fish & Chips amongst the few on that little stretch.

The pricing is a wonderful surprise given it is at a tourist spot. I had the egg roll and did not know what to expect but it was an egg burger and was delicious eventhough humble and simple. The staff is very happy to serve and cautions you several times not to leave your items unattended. Would definitely recommend this to all those who visit the Pier.

Having made the choice to ride to Brighton Big Tone checked out some reviews to enable a choice to be made as to which establishment we would grace with our presence for Breakfast. The Web site stated the cafe opened at 09.00 but apparently this was delayed because of some carnal antics the owner and his wife had to finish prior to opening an admission of the owner ( im nor making this up !!). Having waited 40 minutes for the place to open we decided to make the order simple 5 x full English with a mug of tea. The tea ( served in card board cups) was arguably the best part of the breakfast. I will itemise each component Eggs, a little under cooked but not quite snotty Beans, happy shopper or family choice (still undecided) these were served at 12 degrees centigrade. Bacon, I honestly believe there would have been less fat if Gemma Collins had been put through the slicer. Sausage ...where do I start with the sausages they tasted like full fat cardboard, they had obviously just been defrosted......MY GOD the afore mentioned bedroom antics surely not !!!! Wobbly chairs and table were the least of our worries!!!!

Probably the worst breakfast we’ve had for a while the sausages were tasteless and really cheap, beans were cold and un branded , tea out of paper cups also luke warm unbranded, all condiments in sachets….. “i only ate it because we were hungry” was the comment from Alan and to be honest we all agreed. £10 for the cheapest breakfast products money can buy cooked poorly very disappointing. Absolutely vile fish and chips. The chips were cold and hard, not fluffy or nice at all and the batter on the fish was super greasy and thick, not to mention the fish was rancid. As soon as I bit into it I felt sick as the strong fish flavour and smell hit the back of my throat. For £9.90 a piece I feel severely ripped off, especially considering my local fish and chips which is no where near the sea, is considerably better. If visiting Brighton, avoid this place AT ALL COSTS

This is now called Fish and Dips.... Had a terrible breakfast here this morning. Used to really like this place and it was a bit of a tradition to have breakfast here every time we visited Brighton. Will not be doing so again. Complete slop of food. Everything covered in beans, under cooked mushrooms, arshole end of a tomato, sausages that looked like they had been passed once already and I think there were eggs... Couldn't tell as they were under the slop of beans. Oddly enough the toast tasted like fish batter...very odd. Not sure what the has brown was was it wasn't hash brown, it was soft and floppy. Lots of locals sat around so figured it was still good. Wasn't until we left after barely eating any of the food that we realised non of them were eating, just drinking tea/coffee. Avoid at all cost, much much better places to eat!! Try the adjacent litter bin... ZERO stars.

We stopped here on New Year’s Day in the pouring rain after a game of crazy golf. We were cold and wet through. The two very friendly gentlemen welcomed us in and three cups of tea appeared in double quick time, followed very quickly by a hot water bottle to warm us up! This is a first for me, I have never been offered a hot water bottle in a cafe before and it was just what we needed! Fish and chips all round with one small child portion of scampi for a very petite grandma. These guys were super friendly, food was quick to arrive and delicious. The price was also very good. It isn’t fancy food, it is good old fish and chips and we would heartily recommend it to anyone passing by.

The actual food is you get what you paid for. Cheap stuff, as expected. The issue, though is the utter lack of hygiene. The guy who served us was sitting outside having a smoke before we went to the counter, he then came in without washing his hands, took our order, coughed into his hands and over the food, carried on (again without washing his hands) took our money, carried on again (without washing his hands). If this place even HAS a hand-washing sink, I'm betting it's bone dry. Disgusting.

I see that the majority of the positive reviews are about the food tasting nice. Whilst this may well be the case I think people would think twice about eating here if they actually watched how it was being prepared...So myself my partner and daughter sat at the medeira cafe and ordered fish and chips and burger and chips. Well whilst the fish and chips looked relatively normal, the burger bun had green MOULD on it! I took it back and pointed it out to the woman who just took it out of my hand and said 'I'll get you another one'! She then showed it to the man who wasn't at all bothered and they both began to prepare another one, however they picked up a bun from the same bag, I called out and said I hope you are giving me a bun from a different batch to the last on! He picked up the bag of buns, all of which you could clearly see MOULD all over them! He then picked up a burger with his hands whilst the girl took out a new bun and held it in her hand, she then opened the fridge and used her fingers to sprinkle the grated cheese on then handed it to me. I didn't even get a sorry! They couldn't care less and was as if it was a completely normal thing to have happened!! I was actually quite shell shocked and just walked off feeling sick!!I sat down and then began to observe. -So they all use there hands for EVERYTHING. -They rotate on the tills and food so they are handling money and then handling food.-At no point did I see anyone wash their hands-The man in there looks filthy, not trying to be nasty, but his fingers were black and his personal hygiene is clearly not a priority. -coughing without covering his mouth-He is touching everything. I watched him take the rubbish out, pulling his trousers up, coughing and spluttering...then straight back in the kitchen to serve food.It made me feel physically sick to watch this. They need to get their act together. So as I say while the food may well taste ok, have a think about what actually might be lingering on it!

Been coming here for years, as a local, this used to be always the best fish & chips in Brighton, great service, nice guy and staff. NOT NOW! Today a bloke who looked like a stand-in manager sat smoking where people were ordering and eating, and I had the most DISGUSTING PIECE OF FISH EVER! The batter was pale, thick and insipid and completely uncooked inside, sticking like glue to the fish; the oil stank of not being changed for weeks, the chips were soft and old from being warmed up. Totally disgusting and all thrown in the bin. I will not go back.

After a long drive for the historic vehicle run we decided to refresh ourselves with a coffee and bacon roll. Just after my partner had taken a bite we noticed the man in the kitchen LICKING his fingers BEFORE picking up items to put in the rolls to serve to the waiting public. When my partner shouted asking him what he was doing all he could say was he couldn't find the tongs!!!!!!! No apology, no offer of a refund just a roll with added stranger saliva and we were all left feeling extremely nauseous at the thought. With the high risk of cross infection the motto for this cafe has to be EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK, ketchup 5p a serving but additional saliva free

The worst coffee & latte we have ever tried. Tastes like a leftovers from wash bowl (not that I ever tried that), not drinkable even with various amounts of sugar, which I usually don't add anyway. Discretely and very politely I informed ladies behind the counter about its taste but all I got was "sorry". As I didn't ask for anything back, not a refund either, I sort of would expect at least an offer of glass of water as apology...but no. This is the last cafe at the east end of the row of outlets as you walk away from the roundabout in Madeira Drive just by the steps going up. It's a little tired looking but serves a reasonable breakfast. I've been coming here on and off for 6 years or so , usually had china crockery except on one occasion when a large coach party had used all the china. Service has always been friendly and efficient. I don't like giving negative reviews but when a fish and chip establishment in a seaside town has the audacity to serve frozen chips with its freshly caught fish, it deserves it. Why also is food served to adults on paper plates? The only thing really going for the Madeira is the location which overlooks the beach on the east side of the pier. There is plenty of choice of fish n chip places in Brighton and I will not be returning.
