Booked the Lugger Inn for Sunday carvery. From the first minute staff were friendly and helpful. Was shown to the carvery within 5 minutes. There was 4 choices of meats and lots of choice of vegetables. Which was all excellent. Price was also very good at £14.95. Was advised you can go up as many times as you want , but 1 plate full was more than enough. Would highly recommend.

Myself and my partner live in Cornwall we visited the Lugger for the first time for lunch last week and had burger and fries. The food was very good👍 we decided to go again today July 2nd and ordered the same again, could not believe the difference!! Dried up frozen burgers, fatty undercooked bacon and dreadful service don't know if they have changed chef but will not be going back for sure.

Ordered tiger prawns and asked to make sure they weren't crevettes and was told they were tigers, when they arrived they were crevettes in the shell. The potatoes that they were supposed to be served with never arrived, one person had a hair in their food, another a piece of wood, wrong desserts served. People were looking fed up on other tables waiting so long to be served, also customers taking their drinks back due to dirty glasses, service was very poor, mainly school age workers.

I think if I’d read the reviews I’d have been more prepared for the aggressive attitude from the lady serving the carvery. I understand it’s a busy time during the school holidays and staff definitely deserve some leeway in the chaotic environment at the Lugger but the lady needs some training in my opinion. It felt like their was an enjoyment to her being snappy and rude. The food itself was very good and the other staff did their best. We were a fairly large group and had a big bill at the end, but we’ll be choosing somewhere else next time. A little patience and kindness can go very far when it comes to service.

Me and a friend booked to come for a carvery and when we arrived was pointed to our table. We sat there for 10 mins and received no service so assumed we had to go to the bar. When we got the bar to order our drinks and food we were then told to go sit down and someone would be with us. We then continued to sit there for another 10 minutes and watched a table of at least 12 and another table of 1 being served before us. The food looked lovely and we were given a lovely table it was such a shame we felt so ignored and unwelcome by the staff we had to leave. Very poorly organised service.

Popped up for a littlle more mash, which was buttery & yummy. Popped up for another spoon of creamy leaks. The gravy was abundant and delisious (damn that word) delicious. Loved the rare beef option. I've been to some top Sunday carveries and, truely, this is possibly the best I have had. The Matriach serving was wonderful, lovely lady and funny. Wine was excellent. Probs not the best review written as I enjoyed the wine a little to much and writing this immidiately I got home. My 16 year old son payed for the whole meal as it was my birthday, so he was not disappointed with the quality of food and how much I thouroughly enjoyed the experience. If i have one critique, it is that the staff, although they were very attentive and there were enough on duty, alot were very young and so lacked the confidence and humourous attitude that can really add to the experience, Wonderful food, wonderful interior. Thank you, x x

Great location on the seafront. Stopped off for drinks a couple of times, outside to enjoy the sunshine. Drinks were fine but like so many other places they were suffering from lack of staff so service was very variable, not helped by the management happily drinking and smoking at their table not really being very constructive. Ok as long as you are patient.

We found this pub by accident last year. We went again on Tuesday good service and food. Went again yesterday Saturday, 20mins still no service found a young girl. She did not know what cider you had. We eventually ordered one draft and two bottles of cider. Ordered four meals and checked with her. The drinks we got two draft and one bottle, then three meals arrived. Offered to do another meal but we had had enough by then. The meals are good. We witnessed people sitting down not being served even a drink and leaving. On Tuesday a staff member seemed to be outside, doing track and trace and taking orders. Many pubs are using apps for you to order and pay at the table for drinks and food maybe you need to do this.

Having been to this establishment about 6 times in the past 6 weeks, we've thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside with a coffee mid morning. Then, a glass of wine. So, it seemed the perfect choice to celebrate my husband's birthday, which fell on a Sunday, so booked Sunday lunch. A roast was the main choice on offer. There is a definite lack of staff to greet you at the door, (we waited 10 mins with a queue forming behind). The same delay happened earlier, whilst waiting to order drinks at the bar - no one around, just chaotic! Now, back to the roast, the beef was like leather - very chewy, inedible, carrots were waterlogged. The rest of the vegetables were nice, apart from being lukewarm. We did complain to the member of staff when asked if all was ok, to which the reply was "oh....." perhaps no-one has complained before, and they weren't sure how to react?!?! No reduction on payment, VERY DISAPPOINTING meal and experience. We are locals, and would like to return, but, it will only be for drinks........would NOT recommend.

So we visited on a sunny lunchtime in June and felt really sorry for the chap behind the bar. Not only was he rushed off his feet serving drinks but also taking food orders and then delivering food to the tables while apologising to the queue at the bar. He kept going on his own while other staff (including what I think was a manager) left him to cope. Food and drink was good and thanks to him so was service. After being seated rather promptly and then waiting for twenty minutes for a drinks order to be taken and then a further thirty minutes for a food order. After nipping back to the hotel for a shave and a nap our food (if that’s what you could call it) finally arrived. I'm a regular visitor here at The Lugger Restaurant and Bar. If I wasn't a local, I'd definitely stay here. However, being partial to good Carvery meals, this tops them all (including ones in London and the U.S.A.) My friends and associates often join me here to eat and drink. The decor and ambience are uplifting and tastefully done.Stunning views from the Lugger's large windows looking out to Penzance Promenade and beautiful Mount's Bay Sea scape. A welcome Winter feature is a marquee with windows where we used to sit outside in warmer weather. The entire staff are always warm and welcoming and consummate professionals. The Lugger Restaurant caters well for everyone and is family friendly. Good for groups and celebrations from Birthdays to Wedding Receptions. Funeral Wakes.Aside from the Carvery and tempting desserts and cakes; there is a full bar, where one feels comfortable on one's own. The prices are reasonable and caters to everyone's pocket. There's a bar snacks menu (light bites) and an impressive A la Carte menu that is good and up-to-date (ie. NOT full of fussy bits of overpriced nothing which is definitely passé ) I'm definitely going to wean myself from the Carvery for once and give myself a treat from the main menu as I've seen people having some amazing meals from it. I hope I can still get a table after this review! N.B. My favourite time to go there is from 6pm. Which is when it opens for evening meals.

Loads of assorted fresh vegetables and succulent meats. And proper good stuffing! Really attentive service from all the hard working staff. Will definitely go again for Sunday carvery when next in Penzance.

On a day visit to Penzance. As title, I can't remember a better dish including many holidays in France/Brittany. The Whole Sea Bream was cooked to perfection, new potatoes with herbed butter and baked peppers, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes etc.....delightful. Whole experience was enjoyable, sea view, watching the world go by, staff were very helpful even though very busy. Would highly recommend, we will definitely return and with friends too.

We have been here quite a few times and my reviews have always been favourable. Such a great pub overlooking the sea with great entertainment on a Sunday. However this Sunday, the carvery was terrible The gravy tasted of salt, the vegetables were only warm, the cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese was very hard, tasted frozen and as for the potatoes they were left on the hot plate swimming in oil and were so tough we could hardly cut them!We are so disappointed as this has been, and I am sure it can be again, a fantastic carvery, it has so much going for it.I hope the management read this and take note, there are not many good carveries in Cornwall so come on Luggar you know you can do better. We will be back as we really like the atmosphere of the pub, but for this review we cannot recommend the carvery, sorry guys.

Popped in here with my son before the Pirates' game on a Sunday and a bit disappointed TBH. The carvery was nothing special. Meat was ok, but veg and potatoes were either mushy and sludgy (the veg) or like hand grenades (the potatoes). A shame. We will continue our search for a pre-match regular.....

When we arrived we was told we had to sit in a side room not the restaurant because we had our dog which was fair enough, the table clearly hadn't been wiped all day, despite having fresh cutlery on it. My partner went to order the Carvery for the two of us and we went up one at a time to get it as the dog wasn't aloud in the restaurant. I waited at the counter for about 15minutes with no que, waiting for some one to come serve me. There was only scraps of over cooked meat out and not a whole lot of choice when it came to veg. I went back to the table after choosing and the food wasn't even cooked, the onions in the stuffing was raw, carrots was under cooked, the mash potatoes was lumpy and watery. My partner went and waited at the bar for 20 minutes waiting to order two drinks with very few people waiting. The staff are obviously not well trained and have no previous experience of how to handle a busy restaurant. All in all it was a shamble!!!!

We went on a Sunday evening very good atmosphere. People even dancing on the wall opposite the restaurant with the live entertainment. The food was extremely enjoyable. The price was about what you would expect. We even had a very fussy 6 year old that also enjoyed the meal even that green stuff. The atmosphere was good the staff friendly and helpful. The only negative thing was that we couldn’t find the Horseradish sauce. Would go again when back in west Cornwall. Thanks

Having looked a some of the reviews we were slightly apprehensive but my husband wanted to have a meal whilst looking at the sea and it didn't disappoint! The lovely friendly and bubbly lady front of house was obviously running the show and doing a great job! Our 8yr old daughter & myself had carvery which was fab, loads of veg choice plus pork, beef, gammon and lamb! 1 son had burger which is said was the best ever husband and other son shared the seafood platter for 1 and it was incredible! Although we were all stuffed we couldn't resist dessert & they even put a candle in 1 so we could sing happy birthday would recommend and go again. Atmosphere was lovely and friendly. Fab walk from main car park along the sea front was an added bonus

Decided to have a meal after having drinks there on previous evenings. What a mistake. The wife had chicken which came to the table still bleeding. Sent it back and it came back to table still bleeding. Asked to change order which they did. I had cheesecake for pudding and it was mouldy. Ended up with complementary coffees and free meal.

Requested a group meal after a fishing contest and found that everything was spot on. More than enough food for hungry greedy fishermen, excellent price and good service. Just what I hoped for. I saw the carvery and it looked and smelled good, so maybe next time we will get tickets for that instead. Good selection of local beer and ciders. Good sea views and outside sitting area.

Wow, what an amazing Carvery. Great selection of delicious meats and the largest selection of vegetables I have ever seen on a carvery. Absolutely delicious, highly recommend the Lugger. And to make it even better it is right opposite the promenade and sea and has a large outside seating area with music. Will most certainly be coming here again.

We have called in a number of times to have a drink and the customer service is very poor. There is only ever one person serving, so it takes ages to get served. Also, the previous 2 occasions my husband ordered a pot of tea for me and each time they forgot about it and he had to remind them, getting no apology!

Visited the restaurant on valentines night and ordered our food from the valentines menu. Was busy and waited for the food at a reasonable time between courses. Yet again just like when we have been there for the carvery on other Sundays the food has been hot tasty and a very wide choice. Was nice and warm in there. The only complaint for the evening was the entertainment, the music was too loud and drowned the young singers voice out. But other than that it was a great evening with good atmosphere and fantastic company.. Good British home cooking

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

For a spot of lunch, my wife and two children decided to eat here. Never again. We settled on the beef style kebabs (on a skewer). With rice. The beef was tough, tastless, rough and badly cooked. I was a butcher, I should know! Rice was microwaved but still undercooked! The salad that came with it was soggy, rotten and floppy. The best part of the meal was the kids fish goujons. We spent 70 quid (including drinks) on some of the worst food I've eaten.
