Finally made it to Lucky Khao tonight. We were still able to enjoy their March Fest menu , that had been extended for a week. 4 courses …. and they were delicious. Two of us shared our food so we got to try many great dishes between us. We also got a little taster plate too. We had a great time thanks to the very friendly staff. Had a chance to chat to one of the chefs too. Thank you Meg for taking great care of us. We will be back soon.

Such great food!!! We experienced the march fest. 4 dishes for £22. The portion sizes were just right and we got to experience a wide breadth of the menu, as my partner and I shared our choices. It was all so delicious!!!

We came for an early dinner on Saturday night and everything we ordered was fantastic. Loved the whole seabass especially and am still dreaming about the banana roti we had for dessert. The Jubel peach beer was new to me but was so refreshing with the Thai flavours. Also nice to see that the menu had some new items on it since we last visited. Shout out to Bella, our waitress, and to the rest of the team for great service all evening. We'll definitely be back.

Saturday dinner for two at Lucky Khao. We were sat right near the back, which is the least-good place to sit and a bit dark and grim. Up by the bar or at the front is much better. We had a Som Tam salad and the Soured Crispy Pork Belly and the Sam Rod Whole Sea Bass. She service was really friendly and quick. We loved the big open kitchen. And, the food was fantastic - really fresh testing and full of so many different flavours. The best food we have had out in a long time. Portions are fairly small.

Astonishing Northern Thai cuisine. The laab and the barbecued pork skewers take me right back to roadside stalls in NE Thailand. The corn ribs are so delicious too. Burmese curry very authentic. Note: this is not your usual Thai (ie central or southern) so don’t expect usual coconut curries etc. But for Northern Thai cuisine….stunning!

The service was pretty awful. We waited ages to have our drinks and food order taken and ages for the food. If the restaurant is busy and service staff are struggling they should communicate that. A 12.5% service charge is added to the bill which we were not expecting and felt wasn’t deserved. The portions of food are very small. The curries are not what you normally expect in terms of size. There were two small pieces of chicken in the small bowl of curry with 2 potatoes taking up the rest. For the price we paid that was a ripoff. The staff should explain the sizes of the plates when ordering so you know what to expect. Overall poor very slow service and expensive food.

I went in to meet a friend for coffee and we left four hours later having stayed for cocktails and curry! Neither of us had been there before but we both liked the look of the place. We were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff and before long decided we would stay for cocktails and then soon after that we decided to have a curry. We were served by Abby and Bella who we both felt were not simply friendly but were sincerely so, which is actually quite rare to find in a restaurant these days. The cocktails were delicious and refreshing and the curries (one vegan, one chicken) were every bit as enjoyable and fresh tasting. A terrific ambience, a surprising selection of mainly 80s music on the night we were there which we both enjoyed, and a general buzz to the place that felt warm and welcoming, lively and enjoyable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lucky Khao to anyone for reasonably priced cocktails and a good range of great dishes.

Just been here for dinner over the weekend. Regarding the taste of the food, no complaints whatsoever, extremely tasty food. However, as has been noted in other reviews the timings at which your dishes arrive are ridiculous. I get its supposed to be like Northern Thailand, but we're not there. Rice and noodles arrived are every other dish was already finished. And the prices, wow. £9.50 for a piece of chicken essentially the size of 1 thigh. Again, extremely tasty, but how portion sizes like that can be justified I don't know. The price of your evening will soon rack up, and you'll be hungry again in 2 hours!

The decor and the vibes were super nice but the food left us wanting more . The actual venue is super nice , lovely modern interior nice music and nice staff. Just the food was a massive let down, the pork hock ‘curry’ was almost the consistency of a ramen but with no noodles and noodles weren’t even an option as a side so was confused by the dish , taste was okay but was expecting a thicker curry to have with Roti and rice. The roast potatoes were lush , but other than that a lot of it was very meh for an exspensive price tag , your getting better Asian food lots of other places in brighton.

If you have allergies this is not for you! Second time visiting where meat was served to a vegetarian (a bowl of ribs!) and this time, more alarmingly, a gluten starter given having ordered the gluten free menu. Service was poor and when feeding back about the menu issues, though both were quickly taken away and fairly quickly replaced, we received the most disingenuous "thank you SO much for your feedback" when after paying the bill I raised that to not reflect the errors in any way on the bill felt poor. One table were all given blankets because it was so cold in there. We all had our coats on! Such a shame as its got a different feel to other places in Brighton.

I had high hopes for Lucky Khao but left a little disappointed. We were a group of three people and ordered various dishes between us. It was explained to us that dishes would arrive at different times, but it was frustrating that the rice we'd ordered arrived after we'd almost finished everything. We'd intended to eat the rice as a side and we needed it to offset the heat of the meals. Waiting staff had informed us that 'everything had a kick' but it was only those with a chilli on the menu that were particularly hot. However, we found some of the dishes without the chilli hotter than those that were marked up. Because of that, we were struggling with the amount of spice on some dishes (especially without any rice to soak heat up). Overall, we found the service a little lacking. We were asked if we wanted any more drinks, ordered them but then they never came so we had to chase. We had also ordered a little too much so requested a box to take away what was left. The waiting staff member was very happy to give us a box, but then she never came back. So we had to ask somebody else once our bill arrived. Having said that, I did love the cocktails - particularly the chilli margarita (which had just the right amount of heat). The setting of the restaurant is also very nice. I wouldn't rush back to visit again but would dine here if something else wanted to. I'd also happily come back for just drinks. I know there is so much hype so we perhaps got unlucky - or maybe my expectations were just too high.

I love the food and the atmosphere. This time we were a group of six and ordered most of the menu. Two of the main meals (a curry and a beef noodle dish) were forgotten. They were on the order but the kitchen missed them. The young ones who ordered it assumed it was coming at some point as we’d told them stuff arrives as and when. When the table was being cleared it became obvious it wasn’t - so we had to wait for those dishes to be made and brought over when the rest of us had finished eating. As recompense, I was offered ‘some free rice’. No thanks, as incredibly generous as a bowl of free rice is, I’d rather a proper acknowledgment of the mistake by the manager on duty (it wasn’t our servers fault really, she was lovely, and the food was on the ticket, so the order made it to the kitchen). As it was, no words from the manager, and no offering the dishes that were never brought out on the house (that is what would have happened in a pro run establishment). This isn’t about the money - not looking for free things (we ordered most of the menu) this is about acknowledging a mistake, actually apologising for it and showing some remorse on the bill. Will come back, the food and atmosphere are great, serving staff are good, just needs to be run properly by more experienced FOH.

We dropped in here after we made a booking with VIP pizza across the road and couldn't even get a table because they were fully packed out. Gave up and came here last minute. Really lovely staff who are accommodating and go beyond to make you feel welcome. The food was tasty and filling, although definitely on the steeper end of expensive. We expected a few of the portion sizes to be bigger for the price, especially the rice and the chicken. Vegetables in the drunken noodles could do with being sliced a little better. Lots of very chunky and crunchy bits of cabbage. Besides that, everything truly tasted incredible and it's well worth a visit. Genuinely the main negative was the music. So unnecessarily loud and booming. I don't understand this need, specifically in restaurants and cafes, to play club music loud enough that you have to shout to hear each other across the table. Frustrating when you just want to have a nice meal out.

Food was absolutely delicious, service was excellent (although, a few too many check backs!) and we were so full we had to skip dessert. Every dish was wonderfully different, well seasoned and exceptionally tasty. Noted lots of comments in other reviews about Food being too salty and too spicy and will argue this to say that the menu does say if you’d like less spice to just ask, as for the salt - this is subjective and as a chef I thought the salt level was spot on. We will definitely be back when next in Brighton! Thank you!

We arrived on time but our table was not ready. They were very apologetic but we were not offered a seat or a drink whilst we were waiting. It was noticeably cold inside, I needed to put my coat back on by the end of the evening. We ordered sides: corn, rice, spring rolls etc and then BBQ chicken x2, Vegan yellow curry, and drunken noodles. The waitress explained that food comes when it is ready. The first dishes to come out were two small portions of chicken. The corn next, spring rolls and the curry, 1 portion of rice and then beef larb… then finally the 2nd rice. They forgot the drunken noodles and we had all finished by the time my husband got to eat. The chicken went immediately cold as we waited for the rice (obviously we wanted to eat our rice with something!) However, the restaurant manager was really attentive and lovely and the food was flavoursome if a little pricey for the quantity If you don’t mind feeling a bit chilly and having the dishes arrive (or not) in a random order then fill your creative juices with these amazing North Thai flavours and enjoy!! PS they offer student and NHS discount.

I booked as I had heard good things. This got off to a less than great start when we were given the unwelcome guests table by the corner of the door. The restaurant isn't very warm anyway - but that spot is freezing because it by the main doors. To the food - starters all pretty good - though lukewarm. In the blurb it says everything is cooked fresh and bought to you table once ready - hence I was expecting it to be hot. It wasn't. Spring rolls were tasty as was the sauce , chicken wings tasty - but should have been crispier. Main course - pork curry - slow cooked pork shoulder/ belly cooked in a. rich thick sauce with wild garlic ginger and lemon grass. It arrived looking like a soup - very little pork and a thin watery broth. Again, it tasted fine - but an extremely mean portion. Especially when I walked to the back of the restaurant and saw what others were getting served of the same dish - with a lot of pork. It was lukewarm. The BBQ chicken was an inner fillet - that's it - for a tenner. And it was less than luke warm. So again ,hardly cooked to order, and brought straight to us. The corn tasted great - and it was hot when it arrived. The Massaman curry was also great ( ordered as an extra course, as both of us felt we needed it)- it was hot , tasty , with a great sauce. Just about enough protein to justify the 14.00 GBP price. The food was brought to the table is a great raft of dishes all at once ( I realised they were coming out once "freshly prepared" - but little of this was. It had been sitting around waiting and getting cold.) It's a tough time for restaurants and you have to deliver value for money , or a stunning dining experience - this gave neither. And we were hurried through everything ( other than the second drink coming and the bill), as though we felt we weren't really wanted as customers. With one glass of wine and two diet cokes the bill was 90 quid. The food was tasty - and with a bit of effort, this place could be great - but not when the chefs lack pride in what they plate up and send out. The owners of this concern need to have a good look at Bincho Yakitori or La Choza to see how this sort of fast casual dining should be done.

I visited on Wednesday evening and I can honestly say it is probably the best meal I have ever had. I have recently decided to not eat meat and must admit I have been missing some of the more robust flavours which meat gives. Well, that was completely solved at Lucky Khao and I certainly had no problems with the amazing, wonderful flavours presented in their meat-free dishes. The restaurant provides dishes based on recipes from north Thailand and they are definitely not the usual Thai recipes which most UK restaurants serve. I was introduced to some wonderful, inspiring, alternative Thai cuisine which I shall certainly be researching and "attempt" to replicate when I can't visit. The staff too were so very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure a wonderful evening. They were attentive and really proud of the restaurant, which led to a great atmosphere and reinforces the feeling that this is one very special dining experience. Thank you so much

We went for Octoberbest and and we were disappointed with potions (I know it’s a taster menu but £25 isn’t cheap) it says unlimited rice and salad but in reality it’s just rice. Some of the dishes relied way too heavily on galangal/ lemongrass/ dill & the curry and boat noodle soup really didn’t blow us away. The couples next to us clearly had similar views. Can’t speak for regular menu though.

Avoid this place if coriander tastes like soap to you!!! For me, I hate coriander because of the soapy taste and in most places can tend to eat around it / remove it, but every single dish had coriander as a central element to it. Also most dishes were too spicy: there was one in particular I couldn't finish because it was too hot. Perhaps all of this is part of the "authentic" tastes but it's not for me. I also found that the tables were very close to each other: it felt like we were eating with the people next to us! We did go when it was October Best though so perhaps it was over stuffed. The staff were very friendly and the drinks were tasty, but unfortunately I don't think I'd come back.

We booked Lucky Khao’s Octoberbest offer and when we arrived at the restaurant we felt we were treated like second class citizens from the start. The staff said we needed to leave the table by a certain time and seemed actually worried that we were actually there. We were sat near the front door and we felt like we were kept out of the main restaurant because of the offer we had booked so the restaurant felt cold and un inviting. The food was nice but the portions were small, the offer we had booked said we had unlimited salad and rice but when we were only given a portion of each to share between two people. We asked for a round of shots to end our experience and was very surprised to see that these were charged at £8 per shot. It felt like the restaurant was compensating for their offer by increasing the price of drinks. Overall not a very good experience and would not recommend.

Exemplary Northern Thai, mostly BBQ cuisine. Now eaten here a few times as well as had deliveries from here. Tasty clean food cooked fresh perhaps best for sharing. I suggest a couple of small plates along with one or two mains and a side and a rice for two people. Chaing Mai hotdog is amazing and perhaps enough for two as a starter. Other standouts is the whole BBQ seabass and the Garden Som Tam but only order if you can handle spicy 🌶 🔥 🥵. Staff are just brilliant here. Super friendly and always on hand.

We’ve been there many times now. It’s always wonderful! The staff are always kind and helpful even when it’s really busy and hard for them. The food is really really good… it’s a shame I live in London and can’t have dinner at Lucky Khao every night!

We had a great meal at the counter early Saturday evening. Pork skewers were good but the BBQ aubergine was so good.. Som.Tam salad was a real tasty burst of Thai flavour. White corn ribs were excellent. Make sure you use the coconut cream. We had the veggie yellow curry as a main . Truly fantastic.

Lucky khao was recommended by my friend to try because we love Thai food; he said and quote “the best thai I had in the country”! And boy was he right!! We ordered BBQ sweetcorn ribs with coconut cream (ugh the explosion of flavors in this one; incredible), charcoal lemon grass chicken with jasmine rice and smoked brisket khao soi. The atmosphere was lovely and cozy with friendly staff. Totally worth trying 👍🏽😋

Some good food but overall not the five stars expected/hoping for. Food was good but little outstanding. One dish marked as medium hot was definitely hotter. Almost unedible. Service had issues with staff forgetting drinks orders and taking a long time to ask for food orders, even when there were very few other people in the restaurant. Maitre D was very good but the rest of the staff... Meh. Fine but overall disappointing. Won't return, can't recommend

Great food! Omg this so authentic Thai street food, eating here make us come back to our trip to Thailand, all so fresh and aromatic. The goat curry was fantastic. We love the food so much, the only thing we didn’t like is that in the website and insta advertise a meal deal for Wednesday/Thursday night but when we went they said they don’t do it, so mixed message on that side, but the food is worth it! The staff was really friendly as well.

This place has a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Service was lovely and efficient. We ordered few dishes and they came fairly quickly. The chicken lark was my favourite dish and I also really liked the sauce which came with the aubergine. The curry wasn’t really to my taste. Overall all dishes are flavourful however in my opinion they are all too salty. It either comes from soy sauce or maybe fish sauce but for sure it’s a bit too salty overall. Presentation was nice and you can watch the chefs in the open kitchen doing their work. We tried few non alcoholic cocktails and the passion fruit fizz is highly recommended. Coffee is good too. They also have a secret back garden for warm days like today (40.3 C in U.K.) There is also a sink at the entrance where you can wash your hands which is a nice touch.

Thank god for the staff who are unbelievably lovely helpful and on the ball. Second time giving lucky khao a go and as much as we would have loved it to be great, the food was really not great. The ribs were so dry and overly soya sauced / fish sauce ‘d up we still have blisters at the top of our mouth. Then the Chiangmai hotdog or two mini pieces of sausage which tastes delicious but for £9 common give us a sausage please. Garnish was again completely over salty and we are the type of people to always add salt to every one of our dishes. We really hope that review gets acknowledged by the kitchen. Guys you have got to taste your food, those ribs should have never left the kitchen. Just for the record we are not the type to leave a bad review unless it was dreadful The staff and the flavours of the sausage have added an extra star. We’ll try again at least once... third times lucky (khao?)

Unfortunately our experience at Lucky Khao was not a good one. Disappointed with the food. Tried fish sauce chicken wings and workers' dinner, was expecting authentic Thai flavours but didn't get any. Also their toilets are so dirty! A toilet seat fell off and the floor is full of used tissues. Sadly, we won't be going back!

The monk fish and snapper were fantastic. The chicken wings and curry were not good. The rice, appalling - it tasted like it had been in the fridge and then heated up. When I told the staff this, they just ignored us for the rest of our time there, I ordered coffees that never arrived. Even had to get up to go to the front desk to pay and still no effort from the staff to fix anything.

Don’t try Lucky Khao if you’re not a fan of overly spicy food or remove the chillies. There was no option to choose something that wasn’t spicy. Me and my friends tried the set menu on the 21st birthday of lucky Khao. The mains which were curries were meant to come with sticky rice. The rice bowls were over cooked, were not sticky and resembled more a rice pudding. We also found a piece of hair. The service was okay. We were asked if we wanted a replacement rice but we weren’t in the mood for anymore food. Not impressed with the flavours I tried today but if I had to choose, I really liked the plant based option. The idea of the corn ribs was nice and the tofu side salad was nice. Would not recommend Lucky Khao overall though

Dreadful service unfortunately, took an hour for a cold beer to arrive. Not advised we only had 90 mins for us to eat on booking and then no one took our order for 30 minutes so then we had to rush.

Literally brilliantly chaotic. Cutlery after the food (they were having a cutlery crisis) - just dish after dish of delightfully tasty and sensitively spiced food. The waiters had a great sense of humour. Stuff we didn’t order turned up. We mentioned it. They were “oh well, it’s nice just have it on us” - back to the food. My god. They cook meat so well here. The beef tongue was just sublime as was the chicken. All of it just melt in the mouth tender and high quality. Everything was so well made. You can taste the passion in this kitchen. Highly, highly recommend this place. Just don’t go there expecting polish. It’s delightfully chaotic. Go with that and you’ll have an amazing evening. We did. Literally some of the best food I’ve eaten in Brighton. Just order everything. All of it is mind blowingly great. The mole Old Fashioned was also a genius cocktail. Chocolate and orange with bourbon. So good. Very clever and well thought out, from start to finish. In a delightfully low key, warm and informal environment. We were totally charmed by this place.

Six stars. The best Thai food we've had outside of Bangkok, and we've had a lot of Thai food! Really authentic flavours, with local produce and free-range meat into the bargain. Already planning our next visit. Please just turn the music down a bit, so we can hear each other rave about the food.
