Luben's Pizza in Shepway

Ordered their food online and am disgusted by the lack of consideration. We waited over an hour and a half for food to be delivered. Once delivered Mac and cheese had hair inside it. Mozzarella sticks had 0 cheese inside when called said we would have to come to the store to collect.

We ordered from here for delivery We found a hair in the mac and cheese There was no cheese at all in any mozzarella dippers All food was freezing cold We was not offered a refund We spent over £50 and was not able to eat anything from this Shop was unhelpful

I highly recommend it, I haven't had such a good pizza in a long time.

While I won’t give a 1 star because the food was good and one of the waiters was lovely, one of the other waiters managed to completely ruin the night 5 seconds into us walking in. I would love to know why this waiter thought it was appropriate or polite to ask me and my friends if we needed any children’s menus. For context, we are all 22/23 year old women, but do look a bit younger than our age (around 19/21), so while ID’ing us would’ve been completely understandable, making a joke on how we look like children was unbelievably cruel and unnecessary. It was insulting, and this waiter definitely knew this, as he proceeded to add “no offence” after realising we did not find this funny. To make a blatant joke on a customer’s appearance as soon as they walk into the restaurant is ridiculous, rude, and unbelievably unprofessional.

Best pizza I’ve had in ages! Looking for restaurant open Monday night wasn’t easy, trued this place and glad we did. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable service, great menu variety, plumped for a prawn, rocket and chorizo whilst friend had pepperoni with hot honey sauce and a special extra, marmite sauce! Food was quick, pizzas perfect size, wonderfully tasty, really hit the spot. I’ve seen bad reviews for service, we went at quiet time and it was brilliant, really enjoyed this place, highly recommend!

Ordered a delivery calzone, unfortunately after waiting an hour for the pizza, it arrived burnt to a crisp, so I can only assume it was either forgotten about and excessively overheated or left in the oven for 45 mins. Which is a real shame tbh as I was really looking forward to it.

Amazing food always, I booked for a late mothers say treat and as always Lubens didn't dissapoint. We ordered the goats cheese calzone and it was just perfect. They also do a fantastic childs menu, although we didn't order it this time and a pizza of the day which was a heirloom tomato and peperoni pizza for £6, That's such a bargain. Lovely setting and the waitress was super friendly.

Visited with some friends and was very impressed with the service and quality of the food. Staff were perfect and could not do more to be helpful and polite. Food was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic.

Agh I really want to like Lubens but the service always lets it down. As a local I’ve been a dozen or so times and each time I’ve left frustrated by the poor service. It’s just so slow - regardless whether the restaurant is dead or busy. Tonight for example - restaurant was so quiet when we arrived, we were the only table. Yet it took ages to place the order - staff just chatting at the back. Then when the meal came, no one checked if the food was ok, or if we wanted any desserts (we did). Table wasnt cleared… Such a shame as the pizzas are great but the service 100% lets it down. Not sure I’ll be returning

We came in late afternoon 4 adults and 2 small children. Restaurant was empty apart one table. Service was slow to even take any drink orders. We eventually order everything together. Drinks and starters arrived which was as expected and they were very nice. Chatting away we noticed friends walking past. They came in briefly as they thought we were finished as had messaged them on arrival. We had been there an hour and 15min and were still waiting our main courses. The restaurant was a little busier by now, but an hour and 15min is really not acceptable. I mentioned to someone maybe the manager but we kept getting excuses. Perhaps if the focused on the customers in the restaurant rather than all the Just Eat orders they were doing. The food eventually came and was very nice. They even offered another round of drinks on the house but we declined and asked for the bill. Even though they offered free drinks nothing was taken off the bill. To be honest I thought the service was 1 out of 10 , food was ok. Doubtful that we will be returning. Will go to spoons across the road next time or not

Went for lunch on the weekend and had the best time. The service was great, atmosphere great, and the food was amazing. Much nicer than ordering a dominoes pizza. A great local business.

We had a very nice late lunch here last week, we were quickly greeted and seated. The service was polite and friendly. The food was very good. We will definitely be going back. There is a new manager apparently, and he has really made his mark.

5 stars From the outside, Luben doesn’t look like much, but inside it’s a really cosy spot with modern, simple decor. The atmosphere is great, and the staff are super friendly. The kids’ menu was great value for money, which is always a plus. My wife had the butternut squash salad and absolutely loved it. I went for pizza number 13 with spinach, egg, and Parmesan—honestly delicious! Prices are very reasonable too. All in all, a great place for a casual meal. Highly recommend!

Great for a relaxed night out. Had 3 pizzas, drink, coffee and dessert. All delicious. The romana sauce was beautiful. Will come back

Greatest pizza I have ever had!

On a busy Saturday night, we walked in on the off chance and were seated with a smile and a warm welcome. Menu was of good variety, pizza, pasta, fish, and plenty of drinks including cocktails to chose from. Our food was well presented, cooked well, tasty and authentic, we had a starter, main and shared a dessert. Service was a little slow, but this was simply because the venue was busy, so no problem for us. Our servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and polite, and when I stupidly burned my finger ( my fault ) they noticed and helped with a few ice cubes to ease the pain. A nice experience, in a vibrant environment with good service. Would definitely return.

Terrible service. Food never arrived, no contact from restaurant, have called several times and no answer. No refund given - would really appreciate my money back and communication from the restaurant .

Sadly not somewhere I would go to for a 2nd visit although it was clear the staff did their best. If you enjoy the very rustic style of Lubens, environment and food, then you will enjoy dining here. For me, my pizza flavour was good, but the charcoaled base wasn't enjoyable, Sorry Guys, I know you are trying to provide an individual and natural food style.

Terrible experience. It took over an hour and a half to finally get our pizzas delivered. Had to call the restaurant four times before someone answered the phone, to be told they hadn't even cooked our pizzas. Not a happy customer.

Lovely pizaria in the centre of town. The pizza is great.

Very slow service; had to wait long for two basic spagettis. Table sticky, it was too cold in the restaurant. The food was okay , could have goven more grated cheese.

Lovely food as always, but we always experience slow service. No one checks to see if we want anything else, such as drinks or dessert. We also had to wait about an hour for the bill or to even be able to grab anyone’s attention for it. Plus it’s never even busy in here to even be forgotten about! Do better.

Quality food as always but the service was a massive let down. The restaurant was not even half full and the staff were really struggling to adequately serve their customers. To the point that a few customers had to go up to the staff themselves to ask for drinks or to come and take their food order. It also felt like the staff were more focused on their takeaway orders than the sit in customers.

Really gone downhill. Having had a few good meals there in the past we took out of town family there and it was embarrassing. Two of the pizzas were completely burnt underneath, they must have known but chose to serve them anyway. We sent one back but then the chef forgot about the reorder so by the time we got it everyone else on the table had finished. Another pizza was all tomato and no cheese and another was all cheese and no tomato. Mac n Cheese was pretty tasteless. Deserts (which we’d never had before) were largely disappointing and overpriced for what they were. Given the choice of other good restaurants in the town, we won’t go there again. Such a shame but they’ve clearly changed something, perhaps the chefs or management and it’s just gone downhill. Couldn’t possibly recommend to anyone in future.

Walk-in business at lunchtime, 4 tables occupied (restaurant was very quiet), completely ignored by staff for 5-minutes, walked out again.

Unfortunately good food was let down by slow service. Staff lovely, but took a long time to get served, a long time for food, and had to highlight an issue with the bill too. My son got his kids meal dessert and 30 minutes later, my daughter and I got ours. Not much in the way of apologies for the delay, unfortunately. Also the dessert Calzone's were black on the bottom, and we were not sure if they had been cooked that way, or if ink from the paper they were served on had rubbed off. A shame as I have eaten here before and enjoyed it.

Got a takeaway this evening through Uber eats and was really disappointed. Mac and cheese bites were replaced with mozerella bites. Carbonara was very heavy on the dried herbs which was very overpowering. Garlic bread with cheese was very rubbery. Shame as we've eaten here before and enjoyed it.

We came here to celebrate our son's birthday, but they did not sing us a song and ignored ours message. All food was delicious except the dishes with tomatoes.

Very good food, but 40 minute wait for food

Nice decor , friendly staff and the pizza was very tasty , only negative is the meagre amount of toppings , lots of rocket and onion covering what turned out to be a few small pieces of chicken and no identifiable bacon that I could see. Shame , because this is a nice restaurant, the ratio of toppings needs amending, as I have noticed this on previous visits. It's a bit mean on main ingredients for the price.

We went to celebrate my husbands 60th Birthday very disappointed 3 pizzas were burnt and 1 was not cooked enough. We have been there before which was good. I feel after our experience tonight I will not Be returning.

Pizza with goats cheese and caramelised onion was the reason why I visited this place, but the last few times it became smaller, with less cheese and more tomato 😔 I was dissatisfied. Service is random. One time it's perfect, another time you could wait for half an hour for someone to take your order. Once my friends were sitting there, I wanted to sit with them but the staff told me that they don't have chairs( where's lots of chairs were not occupied near other tables) Sits near the windows could've been nicer if they were transparent. But windows are painted so when you are sitting near you are having zero view.

Amazing visit to Lubans to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, great food, lovely atmosphere and such attentive staff, especially Tom, who thought of every detail to make us feel special and welcome! Thank you ❤️

Waited 1.5hrs for dough balls and a pizza! Only 6 tables being served!

We have always loved eating here - best Italian base pizzas in these parts for sure. However we visited recently (having been away for approx 18 months) and I was struck by how tired and grubby the restaurant was. We were first lunch visitors (arriving at 12) and the tables and chairs were covered in crumbs with food in the floor. Glasses were bloomed and cutlery sticky and marked. This place is so great but it needs a blooming good clean (possibly a coat of paint), new glasses and cutlery purchased.

Waited for almost an hour for food with no acknowledgment or apology. We shared a Ragu pizza which had so little Ragu on it was basically a cheese, tomato, jalapeño and onion pizza. Not great for £17 I get that it was a Sunday night but even so, the wait was painful. Also our 9 year old was very unimpressed with the size of the kids pizza. Would’ve felt better if we’d got just one apology but there was nothing. Might be fine during the week but we certainly won’t be going back.

Stopped by again with friends and once again had a great experience. I forgot to take some more photos to share because I was with friends. Great place to grab a nice Pizza. And the Lunch menu offer is great.

The food was excellent but the atmosphere was the most compelling, purely created by every single member of staff we had any interaction with. From the moment we booked a table to leaving, every staff member was pleasant, positive, full of character and professional. It absolutely made it.

Visited for lunch with friends. The staff were very friendly & efficient.The pizzas were very good & the Mac n Cheese was delicious. I tried the vegan chocolate tart and was very suprised & happy with how scrummy it was. Good value & good service. 👍

Me and my friend had a lovely meal and experience at lubens last night, we were served by Amy and a brunette girl who both were so friendly, bubbly and genuinely lovely, makes such a difference to the overall experience when staff have smiles and show their personality! Thank you to both of the girls, would defo go back.

Nice and cozy place. Unfortunately the price is not justified for the food. The pizza had a lot of sauce, and the beef pasta had virtually no beef...disappointing. The staff is polite and fast service. I wouldn't recommend this place

One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in fab surroundings we will be back ! Dough balls to start were great too and service perfect .

Nice atmosphere and a real pizza oven! Four of us had the Number 11 pizza and we all agreed that it was one of the nicest pizza we'd had. They didn't have the lemoncello we ordered as an after evening drink, but they gave us a Baileys and brandy as a comp. Very cool.

Popped in to grab some lunch as it wasn't too busy. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door by Jack who was an extremely polite and well mannered staff member. He showed us to our table 1with menus and a bottle of water and asked how our day was. He took our drink order and they arrived within minutes. The food didn't take too long either and it was cooked to perfection, very well presented and Jack kept checking in to make sure everything was okay and it was amazing 100% would recommend this place

Pizza dough not cooked in middle. Pasta dishes tasteless. Nobody enjoyed their meal. Only good thing was the great service by Kai who I would give 5 stars.

Great pizzeria, beautifully decorated. The service is top notch, friendly and fast. The food was amazing, the pizza is one of the best I have ever eaten. Wolf's pizza is the place to eat.

The menu was quite simple and very good. We were both a little disappointed in the pudding but we took that in our stride and will go back.

Lovely local pizza pasta restaurant. Very tasty food with top notch ingredients used in all. Highly recommend the mac and cheese if you feeling like a hearty meal. The pizza are pretty good too.

Previously had brilliant range of really tasty vegan options. Sad to see that they have been cut and the couple they do have aren't as good. We've visited here lots for this reason but probably wouldn't again now. Friendly staff and good location though.

Tasty pizza but very mean with the toppings, about 4 pieces of chicken and barely any bacon on it. Have been here before and enjoy the decor and service but they seem to be making cutbacks with the ingredients.

I had a lovely pizza and my wife had a pasta dish she was happy with. Because I was a bit hungry (more like being greedy)I ordered potatoes, but this was a new dish that they only started doing and wasn't on the menu, cannot remember the name of it, they were ok, not what I call garlicky as described , but I am sure they will have perfected in time. But overall I would go back to eat there again.

Lovely waitress, cool and cosy interior but the food, 2 plates of pasta and a pizza, took ages to arrive despite the restaurant being almost empty. The pasta portions were quite small and I was baffled by the 4 random pieces of chicken in the carbonara. I'd probably go there again but not in a hurry.

Definitely one of the worst pizza I ever had in my life,and honestly as a professional Pizza Chef I can't really say anything positive about it. I left 3/4 of the pizza in the plate,the Waitress very kind and polite but didn't ask anything about the leftover pizza,just after pay the bill she asked how was the experience. Anyway pizza was undercooked,raw,Cooked on pizza tray(the Menù also says lots of bullsh*t about how do they cook, Neapolitan style on the hottest part of the oven,and The Roman style in another different way,with 2£ charges if you want the thin pizza with basically the same Dough, absolutely ridiculous)the bottom didn't even touch the stone,the spinach horrible from freezer straight to the pizza,black pepper and chopped parsley on, ricotta cheese no comment,Mozzarella wasn't real Fior di Latte. If you want a good pizza,well just get a frozen one it'll be definitely 100% better.

Booked a table for mother's day for my partner and two kids and from the moment we walked in felt welcome and relaxed due to the tall guy with a beard (Tom). The timings between starters and mains was perfect and food was cooked and presented beautifully. Also Tom got a extra thumbs up from my daughter who cheekily asked for ham with her mack and cheese after getting it. Tom kindly brought her some which she loved. Will definitely be returning.

Amazing quality, the food was amazing, friendly staff, it only took 7 minutes for 2 pizzas and it was peaceful. Totally recommend.

Always stop at Luben’s if visiting Folkestone. With great pizza, you can’t go wrong; even more so as they offer gluten free bases which taste just as delicious. The atmosphere is lovely too; on each occasion we’ve been, we were able to choose our table. Whether at the window or in amongst the decor, it’s a cosy and private space. Would definitely recommend!

Love Lubens. Amazing pizza as always! The mozzarella in the caprese salad wasn't great, hard and too cold, a shame as the rest of the salad was delicious.

They seat you way to close together it’s uncomfortable, gave me a calzone with chicken when I’m vegetarian. Staff were nice and trying their best but doesn’t seem to be enough of them when it’s busy, very rushed off their feet

I’ve been here many times and the food is always delicious. During our most recent visit we were served by a man (I didn’t catch his name, tall and brunette) who was extremely warm , friendly and helpful. He made my partner and I feel really welcomed and well looked after

So short of staff. Meat & cheese platter starter was good, main pasta meals barely warm. Drinks took ages to come to the table we had to remind the waitress. Not great!

Always great food, service and atmosphere.

It was a busy Saturday evening and the service was terrible. We had 2 courses and were there for 2 1/2hrs. We even had to chase to pay the bill. Two of the meals were luke warm, my calzone looked like a sausage roll and was dripping in oil as was the salad. No one checked in with us once we'd been served. I've really enjoyed eating there in the past so was really disappointed. A discount was applied to the bill in recognition of our complaint.

Every time I either visit or order from Luben's I swear it'll be the last time. Unfortunately it's the only pizza my child will eat, and so here I am again. For whatever reason, the management of this restaurant have decided that staffing it entirely with teenagers is the route to success. Suffice to say it isn't. The pizza was stodgy and unrefined, the pasta dishes decent enough, and the value for money pretty good if you're feeding a family. That's where the positives ended. The staff are clearly not experienced enough to juggle an even moderately busy restaurant and as a result, once the initial order was taken and pizzas delivered, you're left to your own devices. It took three attempts to get the drinks order at the table correctly and each drink was dumped at the end of the table of 10 to be distributed by the customer. The main arrived fairly swiftly. An hour, empty plates left piled high, and three requests for our children's ice cream, were not sign enough to the staff that we were ready to perhaps move on. Eventually, and some what grudgingly, we got a single ice cream. A further two requests got the bill which included a dessert that never made it to the table and by this time, nearly two hours in, the person who had asked for it had given up and left. The request to remove it was met with reluctance. Luben's could be great. They are very tolerant of families and the young staff are trying, but dear me does it need some proper management.

Faultless! Service was friendly and efficient, good quality food with lots of vegan options , pizzas are large and good value. Would strongly recommend.

The pizza is good, but personally prefer more chewy version. Pasta is a bit tomato-y for my taste. Both are huge portions. Deco is nice.

Nice vibe and friendly staff but it's a big venue so sometimes you have to be patient. Great food and family friendly.
