I love coming to alphabet cafe for the cute gift shop plus a great place to catch up with friends over lunch! The staff were amazing, although a small mistake with my order they quickly corrected the error. Slightly disappointing to not have an all day breakfast but other than that the menu was good and the specials are a great addition. Definitely will back!

Women's Collective is held at this venue and I couldn't be more happier. The staff are friendly and very accommodating to our needs. There is always a large group of us women who get together to advertise, share and showcase a variety of different services running in Burton. I find each one, inspiring and effective. Food is always great too.

I ordered scrambled egg and smoked salmon. The portions were miniscule. The amount of salmon was laughable. It wasn't cheap either. Also the waitress looked fed up and miserable. Regardless to say, we won't be going back.

Overall a lovely experience. There was confusion with our afternoon tea as we had asked for vegetarian food at the time of booking. Unfortunately our platter was a meat one. This was rectified but meant we had to wait longer than anticipated. The food was lovely though.

Booked champagne breakfast on line for two and then rang to add another person on. This was for my daughter’s birthday which was that day. We arrived, no one came to us, no one knew about the booking, no table set, nothing, something that was a celebration was a complete let down. I have to say the food was great, service was not forthcoming and we had to ask for our orders to be taken, had to ask for our danish pastries, not one member of staff attended our table without us calling them. We book every year for this, it’s fairly local and not too far to walk after parking as I am unable to walk long distances. Such a shame as in the past it’s always been spot on. Obviously communication between admin and staff is poor.

We had a table booked for 6 pm last night for six of us. We turned up and the place was closed. No notice on the door and no notification to tell us that they were closed. They took the booking so what happened? Had to find somewhere else and as it turned out where we went was superb. Don’t bother going to Alphabet or Alphabet Uncorked

Arrived for afternoon tea and immediately greeted with confusion when I explained we had an afternoon tea booked for 1pm. Once the waitress had confirmed with a colleague it was in the diary, the second waitress politely asked us to wait whilst she prepared the table. They then left us waiting for over 25 minutes before taking a drinks order and that was only after being prompted by ourselves to ask when the food would be ready, the waitress didn't offer to take our drinks orders at this stage. Bearing in mind our party was a 91 year old in a wheelchair and a 5 year old. I had phoned and attempted to add another person to the booking, the week prior but had received no confirmation of this voicemail being received and amendment to booking, therefore I confirmed prior to food arriving that the booking was only for 3 people, this was met again with confusion and a slight argumentative nature, when they returned to say that I had amended the booking via voicemail. I explained that I had not had acknowledgement of this change and so it was only for the original 3 people. We received our food approximately 40 minutes into our booking which looked absolutely stunning and tasted delicious but the service up to the point of receiving our food had been quite poor I feel. I suspect our afternoon tea booking had not been prepared for prior to us turning up, as it seemed we had been forgotten about. I would recommend for food alone as there was no fault with this, but the customer service was not a good experience unfortunately.

Been visiting the Alphabet tea rooms for years. On the plus side they are very Covid friendly and due to this the menu is reduced which is understandable. However, I don’t get why they have to serve their coffee in paper cups when they can serve food on proper plates. The table service was slow and had to keep putting my hand up to get the waitress attention as didn’t want to walk around unnecessarily. Overall not a great experience from a favourite coffee shop. If I want a coffee in a paper cup I’ll go to McDonald’s! On the plus side as I said very Covid friendly, waitress disinfecting tables and menus but maybe taken Covid a pic too far and ruining the overall experience.

We went into this restaurant yesterday Tuesday 25th February for lunch, the food and the service was ok. The main problem was that they allowed dogs in to the cafe. This particular dog was coughing. The dog was led by the owner to the back of the cafe and back again two or three times. On complaining to the manager who is a dog owner, we were told it is financial reason to allow dogs into the cafe.Young children and babies also were in the cafe. Also there are low tables which the dog we saw could have been able to reach .There is no sign saying dog friendly, or a raring for cleanliness. We will not be returning to this cafe.

Whenever we visit Burton, this is our favourite lunchtime venue. Love the vibe & feel of the place. This time I ordered the egg mayo & cress sandwich with a small side salad and my husband ordered his usual favourite; mushrooms on gluten free toast. Coffee / mushrooms on toast – great and as expected. I was disappointed with the eggs, which were very pale and tasteless – free range would be a better choice. The food is always of good value but with our last couple of visits something is always missing from our order. One occasion missing feta from the Shakshuka and this recent occasion missing cress from the egg mayo sandwich. The staff are quick to rectify the issue. Attention to detail missing on occasion.

We really liked the look of this place and as it always looks busy thought we would give it a try. We had popped in a couple of times before but been unable to get a table, but on this occasion we were lucky. There was plenty of choice on the menu and we opted for a couple of toasties and a coffee each. You have to go to the till and prepay for your order. The coffees came fairly quickly from the time of ordering but we had to wait over half an hour for our food. And for the price we paid they were very small portions, with a tiny bit of salad on the side. It was just ok, nothing amazing and overall rather disappointing. I guess the reason you can't get a table is because everyone has to wait so long for their food! It's safe to say we will not be returning.

We visited her for a light brunch on a Sunday. We were really impressed by the menu because of the vast vegetarian options. Firstly, it was obvious none of the staff wanted to be there - I understand it’s hard over the Christmas period but smiles are basic manners in my eyes.I ordered the eggs with hollandaise and my partner had smashed avo with eggs. If they were fresh free range eggs they need to get a new supplier! Small, very pale and tasted awful. Plus they were not cooked - very slimey. The hollandaise tasted like a whole lemon had been squeezed in with no seasoning. On a positive note, the coffee was drinkable.

I went for breakfast with my son and Grandchildren and I decided on the 'Full English' at a cost of around £7.50. I asked for eggs and bacon and toast but not the sausage, mushrooms etc., hoping that I would get extra bacon in lieu. No such luck! Two fried eggs and two rather small rashers of bacon. When we looked at the bill we found I'd been charged over £9 for my meal. When we queried this we were told "Eggs and Bacon" aren't on the menu so we'd been charged for each egg and each rasher individually. The staff didn't have the wit, or possibly the training, to charge £7.50 and simply omit all the other stuff. A case of "computer says No". The last time I paid that much for egg and bacon was at The Savoy, London. Too daft to laugh at.

We have been to the gift shop many times although never to the cafe, therefore was looking forwad to the experience. The decor is comfy, modern, nice and clean ,a perfect spot for lunch .We went there today with my children and friends. When we went up to the counter to order, service was friendly.on delivery 3/5 off the dishes were less than satisfactory. I ordered a jacket potato which was very large, undercooked and had absolutely no crunch to the skin whatsoever. My children had sandwiches one from the child's menu and the other from the main menu .They were very underwhelmed and dare I say I could have made a yummier offering at home . We have had better experiences at Macdonald's and In the end I had to return my meal which they graciously apologised for and asked if I would like an alternative (offered a refund). Unfortunately having lost faith in the menu I resorted to coffee and a cake.

We put in an awkward order, asking for each of the dishes to be modified from the menu (a mix of fussy eaters and medical conditions). This was not a problem for the counter staff, they were happy to accommodate all our requests. Unfortunately a plating error meant one of the party receiving part of someone else's meal. This was swiftly dealt with by the serving staff, with a sincere apology and a very generous response. Mistakes happen, it's how they are dealt with that counts and I cant fault them for their response. I've eaten here loads and have always loved it, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Called Sunday 2nd December 2018 for a snack at dinner-time. Not being hungry and having called here for a snack before and enjoyed it, we decided to come again. We managed to get a table and luckily arrived before an influx of people wanting tables. You queue up to order what you want from the counter. It's brought to your table when ready. There is quite a wait, as the staff are so busy racing around taking drinks and meals over to tables every single minute. We ordered creamy mushrooms with added (for £1 extra) bacon on sour dough bread, a breakfast wrap, which includes, eggs, sausage and mushrooms. I just had marmalade and toast. All was served by a pleasant young man. There is also a bar there for anyone wanting a alcoholic drink. We did have to wait a while but the meals were nice and hot and not too expensive. They have cakes such as banana loaf, brownies etc., The last time they had a vegan cake which I had and it was very nice, but not this time,...so a little disappointed. They also do take away food, so you can imagine how busy it gets. If you have the time to spare and in no hurry call in here as it's worth a visit.

I first noticed this place while I was coming back on a bus into Burton, and was curious to see what it was like, and I wasn't disappointed! I had a large bowl of roasted red pepper and sweet potato soup with delicious fresh bread, and was impressed with the customer service as it was before 12pm and asked if it was available, and the staff checked with the kitchen whether it was possible. It came piping hot, and was extremely enjoyable. I followed this with a piece of lime and coconut loaf, which was delicious and light and a large mug of baileys hot chocolate-a treat! Will definitely return.

This is a great coffee shop / cafe....a breath of fresh air for Burton-on-Trent. Staff are all very young and very polite, although they have the appearance of a rabbit in the headlights when things don't run smoothly. Recently I've frequented this cafe on a weekly basis for their cooked breakfast, which is fantastic. However, go early to avoid the queues and the delays that result from the kitchen becoming swamped with orders. I don't want to sound petty, as the service and food is usually very good, but on my last visit there was a delay in excess of 30 minutes for a cooked breakfast at 9:15-9:30am. A courtesy explanation regarding the delay would have put our minds at ease that breakfast was on its way, but both myself and a couple of other diners had to question where our food was and received a limited explanation. When food finally arrived, mine was not up the the usual high standard...look warm and one dubious looking sausage which I left to avoid later embarrassment.

We visited at lunchtime and the tables were all full (which isn’t unusual and to be expected) however there was no logical waiting system for a table. No one acknowledged us waiting by the tills and while we waited another couple just walked past into the main dining area and took the table we were waiting for. We didn’t want to wait in the main dining area to avoid people feeling we were stood over them. We decided to leave due to no acknowledgment. Could there be a better waiting system or at least an acknowledgment of those waiting?

This is a very popular cafe, and rightly so. Good food and fantastic staff. The problem is that you have to queue up to order. Now this isn’t such a problem (although I personally find it a pain) when the cafe isn’t busy and you want to order your mains and drinks. However, to have to queue up for 15 minutes after you’ve decided to end your very nice lunch with a coffee, just isn’t on.

It is always busy and that is testament to the gorgeously decked out restaurant and lovely gift shop. I will continue to visit here to meet friends and hope to try out the gin terrace when the weather gets better.

Great place, a change from the usual chains. Good coffee and amazing cakes. Service had gone down hill slightly after the refurb but all seems back on track now. Very busy when we visited this weekend so we aren’t the only ones who think it is fab!

Lowercase has the look and feel of an upmarket place without being over priced. It's one of the few places in Burton where I can get a decent coffee with soya milk and loads of vegetarian choices beyond cheese. Everything was super clean without being clinical, the staff are friendly and clearly work very hard. Nice toilets are a deal breaker for me and I was impressed! Only had a coffee this time but I'll be back for lunch soon.

During my initial visit many months back I was pleasantly surprised with a fresh looking place to eat. The lunch dishes were nice and the cakes were excellent. Drinks are drinks and offer nothing unusual. I have since been back a few more times which...

I came in for a quick cup of tea after a day of shopping, was generally disappointed by the whole experience. From the start the young girl who served me seemed like she would rather be anywhere else, and obviously wasn't paying attention as my tea was not decaf, I ordered it for a reason as caffeine does not agree with me but due to the reaction I had an hour or so later it was obvious my order, the only cup of tea I had that day, was wrong. To add to matters, the floor around my table was covered in crumbs, and the open to the air sugar bowl was sticky as if something had been spilled in it. I would advice storing sugar in a closed container for hygiene sake.

Enjoyed a mid-morning coffee in pleasant surroundings. Staff friendly and efficient. Coffee was hot and not just lukewarm, as in some places. Milk was provided separately meaning that the amount added was to individual taste.

Popped out from work for a lunch time treat with my friend. Nicely decorated and friendly staff. Ordered the fish finger sandwich, very disappointed with the quality, over priced at £7.95. Poor quality fish fingers which were lukewarm and NO tartar sauce available!!!! Drinks also over priced. Cobweb and dead spider on the wall by where I was sitting. Advantage bread and small side salad were fresh.

For the last few years we have visited the Lowercase Coffee Bar, especially on Saturday morning. We normally have a breakfast, which is really nice; however, since the coffee bar has been extended we have, on more than one occasion, had to wait for food, even if this was just a sandwich. On the last visit we were told we would have to wait for 40 minutes, even though the coffee bar did not look overly busy. Consequently we decided to go to another coffee bar where we got similar food within 10 minutes. Can I say we love the Lowercase Coffee Bar and we will still go for the atmosphere and a coffee; however, we will only go for food during the week when it appears that the kitchen is more able to cope with the orders.

I have now visited this “what- was” an excellent cafe 5/6 times since it’s refurbishment- hoping the drop in quality of food and service would be nothing more than a “blip” as everyone adjusted to its new size and issues that it might generate.

This is the second time I have visited these premises this week. I met a friend for coffee as she had arrived before me and ordered a latte she told me it was awful and because I was going to order asked if I would take it back no apologies for the fact the coffee was most unpalatable!.Today I took another person and she ordered poached eggs on a muffin when they arrived the muffins were completely black!. I took them back to the counter and said this is burnt, When they brought them back they had not done fresh eggs but they were reheated I was told and looked like "cement". I asked the rather rude waitress to do fresh ones and she said sarcastically "they will be a long time". When she returned she put the plate on the table and I advised her that burnt food was carcinogenic and that it should not be served she proceeded to talk over me until I had to raise my voice to be heard.

I went with my 91 year old mother. We sat near the counter on a crowded Saturday so possible our fault as the noise of coffee machines made conversation difficult. The staff could not have been nicer but we waited 40 minutes for a delicious bowl of Sweet Potato Soup which was clearly fresh and homemade . Mine had a large piece of potato in which put me off a little but the couple at the next table ordered food after us and were served first. I asked a very sweet waitress about this and she said it was because they had ordered a toasty which left me puzzled. Coffee was very good and cakes looked delicious but the wait spoilt the whole experience.

First time visit tonight but were turned away. Very disappointed as my friend has bought in excess of £50k with this company this year alone.
