Louis' Tea Room in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Great service, tasty food, and massive desserts! Louis' Tea Rooms is in a fantastic location perched in the middle of Kit Hill and has lovely views that you can enjoy whilst sitting in or out. The staff are friendly and efficient and it was a pleasant experience. Thank you!

A family meal out - Louis is our fail safe restaurant - we all had fish and chips, despite being very tempted by the pie and pudding evening offering which looked lovely and was going down well with other diners. Our meal was excellent as always, freshly cooked and arrived at the table in no time at all. From the point we made our booking (half an hour before) the service was friendly, efficient and we had a very pleasant evening. Thank you all so much, please keep on doing what you do so very well.

I visit Louis a lot and have never reviewed it. So Today I thought I would. I took my mum , who’s has Alzheimer’s disease, she loves her food ! I ordered an all day breakfast , then mum ordered 2 x bacon 2 eggs and chips . We ate the lot ,we were not rushed , the food was hot , the restaurant was clean , and most of all the staff were friendly , which is a big thing with mum . Amazing team . Thank you so much.

We stopped here for lunch, and as it was good, again for dinner a few nights later. The tearoom/cafe is situated high up on Kit Hill, with fantastic panoramic views. There’s a large carpark and direct access roads. On both of our visits service was quick and friendly, and the place was clean and tidy, including the facilities. On our lunchtime visit, I had the loaded fries with steak, and my wife had her choice of bacon, chips and beans. The food was very good, decent portions and served hot on hot plates. For our evening meal visit, I had 8oz rump steak with all the trimmings, and my wife had the homemade Mexican beef enchilada. Again, both meals were served very hot on hot plates, and this time were truly enormous portions. I do not think I would ever get to dessert at this place. For what we had, both meals were excellent and very good value for money. Recommended.

after reading the negative reviews i was not expecting anything good but i was really suprised.as soon as we walked in we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out,we chose inside as it was mizzeling out.we sat down and within 2 minutes a waitress came over and asked us what we would like to eat and drink,so we ordered.our drinks came within 2 mins and our food came 5 mins after that.i don't know where other people were eating but it could not have been here.good food/good staff,all in all a great experiance.we will be coming back soon.next time we will take some piccies and post them online.thanks a lot and see you soon.

We’ve visited Louis’s Tea Room several time and always had good service and enjoyed the great menu. Always great home cooked food, especially the steak and kidney puddings 😃

What a ‘let-down’, again. The view is still great: our house is still peering through the trees two miles across the Tamar Valley…but the food AAAGH! You could tell before it arrived that the visit was a mistake; a bad one! Once bitten twice shy is not wrong: we should have learnt our lesson. If we hadn’t had to pay before we saw it, I would have sent it back and left. Maybe that’s why it’s ‘pay now and complain later?’ Over the last five years the TEA ROOMS (when is a TEA ROOMS not a CAFE) has gone ‘down hill’, not a good idea on the side of a hill? Calling in last week, thinking we should give it another chance after twelve months I ‘played safe’ with an ‘All Day Breakfast’ Fried Egg …’boiled in oil’, very awful! Fried bread…’deep fried in oil,’ really awful! Fried Sausage…’deep fried in oil,’ just awful! Tomato and Beans…not even awful! My wife just had toast…good choice. WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO COOK A SIMPLE BREAKFAST, HOT FAT OR OIL IN A FRYING PAN: LEAVE THE DEEP FRIERS FOR THE CHIPS? THE MAJORITY OF THE COUNTY NEEDS TO IMPROVE, NOT JUST THE ODD ONE BUSINESS. THE PLATE AND FOOD WENT BACK WITH THE COMMENT…YES, AWFUL! WITH NO SIGN OF A ‘CHEF’ OR MAYBE JUST A COOK, TO EXPLAIN, OR EVEN OFFER AN APOLOGY, WE LEFT. £17:00 WASTED…AND THE INGREDIENTS! Why is it so difficult to cook a simple breakfast? Good quality hot fat or oil in a FRYING PAN: leave the deep friers for the chips…please! It’s not just Louis Tea Rooms, much of the county needs to improve, not just the odd one business. The plate and food went back with the comment…yes AWFUL! With no sign of a ‘Chef’ or maybe even just a Cook to explain, or even offer an apology, we left. £17:00 wasted, plus which was worse, the ingredients.

This was the worst service I have ever encountered. We got here and waited 35 minutes before someone took our order, then with no apologie. Then after over an hour we were still waiting for our drinks. At this stage we just walked out, there loss there was 10 of us. Our bill would have probably been well over £100.

The food was nice but the service was slow. We waited around 50 minutes for 2 cream teas and two breakfasts. It didn’t seem too busy. There is a lovely view but it’s blocked by cars so you don’t get the full benefit from the tea room. A buzzer system in place to let you know when food is ready.

Fantastic food , prices reasonable , service ok but a little slow even though the location was not very busy at the time of our visit , both eggs overcooked on each meal that was a bit of a let down due to food sat under a heat lamp

One of the very best afternoon teas ever! Freshly cooked and prepared, delicious and we took quite a bit home with us, it was so generous. Will definitely be going back. Sandwiches - with the most delicious chutney, freshly basked pastie and sausage rolls- which were utterly delicious! Crisps, salad and coleslaw then beautifully light and tasty berry meringue, scone with jam and cream, huge slice of homemade cake , chocolate brownie bites and flapjack bites. Couldn’t fault the food at all, fresh, homemade, flavoursome - plentiful!! We weren’t rushed, super helpful to my little girl, can’t praise the staff and experience enough - brilliant.

Just great whatever the weather. Been a few times now. From a fantastic roast to cakes, cream teas. Lovely spot all round tip top 😊

So - follow the signs for Kit Hill.  It looks like a farm - and may still be for all I know, but it has been converted into a nice cafe/restaurant.  We sat outside as it was a nice day .  Inside was surprisingly busy for a midweek afternoon in February.

Absolutely brilliant cafe for our family Sunday lunch. There is a big variety of really good quality food; with very generous portions too. Even the children’s portions were a good size. It has a remarkably calm atmosphere despite being very busy. The views outside are brilliant too. We were so impressed by this place and our kids loved their food too.

Tasty food. Healthy portions. Helpful staff. Good value. All round a great place to go for all ages.

So disappointed... there's not much choice for vegans on the menu here, but it's local and friendly, so we go often and I make do. The vegan pie is good, but that's all. Today we went for breakfast... Avocado on toast is easy right? You don't leave the black bits and you don't leave bits of skin on... Two bits of cheap white toast, no spread, two or three crude spoonfuls of blackened avocado, no seasoning and greasy fried (the menu said grilled) peppers. It really felt like the chef had no regard for the token vegan.

The absolute perfect breakfast might add black pudding next time. Lovely staff , great view and very reasonable prices. Ps the coffee was spot on as well!!

Fabulous breakfast, really friendly staff would highly recommend a visit. Ice cream is also delicious and a lovely selection of Cornish gifts.

8 of us came for lunch yesterday. Bank Holiday Monday. The place was very busy, both inside and out. But, we were very quickly given a table and made aware that there would be quite a wait for food. This wasn't a surprise. Whilst taking our order the waitress very kindly pointed out that what 2 of our children wanted would be cheaper to order as extras, rather than breakfasts without some of the items. Some of our orders were quite fussy about how they wanted it. Yes, we did have a wait for the food. But, when it came everything was really well cooked and everyone's came out exactly as ordered. Turned out our toddler had a nap and his lunch was popped into a take out box so he could have it at home. The staff worked their socks off and were all very pleasant. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch and was glad to leave them a nice tip. One they deserved, as I'm sure they'd rather not have been working on a bank holiday. Thanks for the hard work and thoughtfulness. Perfect location for lunch after booking the private swimming pool just up the road.

Lovely warm welcome and service, great shaded area for dogs, lovely food locally sourced ingredients. We will definitely be visiting again before we go back home from our holiday.

Not sure I will use this place on a regular basis again after over 7 years . Not sure whether the chef has changed over the past few months! I came with my dog sat outside ordered a ham and cheese and pickle sandwich on brown bread and not toasted. it states on the menu choice sandwich or toasted sandwiches panini or baguette. When it turned up after a fairly long wait I received a toasted overcooked toasty on white with mango chutney not pickle. The kitchen were obviously confused over pickle and mango chutney. I made a comment along with several others who had Brie and bacon baguettes which you guessed had mango chutney in. To my defence I’m a retired chef of 52 years continuing service to the industry and I can clearly know the difference of pickle and mango chutney. Not to warble on today I go again always let them have a second chance so I order ham cheese and pickle sandwich on brown not toasted. My food was right but what turns up ? You guess a toasted panini with cheese ham and mango chutney history repeated itself. It was replaced with what I requested but it’s not the point. Lady came over who took the order and said it was not mango chutney that’s by and by as it clearly was the menu clearly states that this sandwich comes with pickle not mango chutney Made no excuse that she put the order through wrong. my lunch partner never eats panini at all very poor and not nearly an acceptable explanation by the server. I don’t profess to know it all but I do know my way round food. Not sure after 7 years and two errors in the trot that I will be rushing back in the near or distant future . I await my offer of a free meal so you can rectify you mistake as a final thought several other customers were also making negative comments as we left

Visited for the first time today. The staff were pleasant and a good varied menu. We ordered a Cheese scone tea and a cream tea. Everything arrived ok and the scones were enormous but sadly very bready to eat. Little or no butter in them and very chewy. Could not eat them.

Great food with the best views around. Its like the Cornwall version of Rikers /boxhill. They get busy so you may need to book. Big portions. Loads of choices.

what a lush little location , amazing food and drinks so perfectly located with amazing views, kind staff and wonderful people. I went with the family and the food has been brilliant for everyone each and every time. Breakfast was fab and so quick with big portions and fresh ingredients. Dinner was brilliant, a perfect menu , lovely waitresses and watching the view made for a perfect meal.

Stunning place views to die for. Really big car park with outside seating. Arrived with many bike friends and they did fantastically well with the large crowd. Food was really great and fresh. Staff very friendly and everything was quick. Only downside for me was the loos smelt a little funky. Otherwise a really great place. Well done

Lovely find, came recommended. We came for tea, very generous portions of lovely home cooked meals and quick service. We are on holiday and will be coming back several more times as there are so many nice menu options, as well as takeaway ice cream etc. Also a nice area of gift items to purchase and really nice ready meals and pasties to purchase

We have been going to Louis Tea Room for many years, taking family and friends who were always pleased, as we were or we wouldn't have carried on going. But sadly yesterday, having booked a table over a week ago, we arrived with an offer of being put on a different table, annoying, but we were eventually offered another. My husband nearly always has the cod and chips and is always praising them, the chips are always good too. But we dont know what happened yesterday, they looked like frozen french fries that had been cooked twice at least, you could see the grease in them!!! and they were hard. Not anywhere near their usual standard. We will try one more time, not booking a table this time, if its the same we will not be going again. Disappointing Father's Day lunch.

This place popped up on details of biker friendly cafes, so added this to our biking day trip exploring Dartmoor and surrounding areas. We hadn’t booked but was able to sit outside and ordered a Sunday roast with a choice of meat. Myself and my friend opted for beef, Yorkshire pud and fresh veg with a side each of cauliflower cheese. The portion size of this was huge and one portion between us would have been ample! The main, side and a drink was about £15 each, excellent value for a delicious, fresh and large portion with lashings of lovely thick gravy. Definitely will add to our list of places to visit when biking in the area. Motorbike parking area too!

Please be warned: the cream tea has no tea with it! I’ve just had to pay £5.20 for a scone with jam and cream. Therefore, it’s not a cream tea. It’s a massively overpriced scone. I left feeling deceived and cheated.
