Long Can Hall in Calderdale

Food was nice but service was extremely poor waited 20 mins just to get a menu whilst other customers came in after us and received menu straight away and served before us we were wanting a desert but didn't want to wait for the service it actually took another guest (someone we knew) to get the attention of a waitress just so we could pay our bill Won't be going back again in a hurry

Beautiful property and grounds, well worth a visit

A really nice first visit to Long Can Hall. Very pleasant service and food. General, well done pub classics, with a few interesting twists. Nice couple of hand pulled beers to sample too. Can't believe I've lived in Halifax all my life and never visited. Superb service, keep up the good work👍

It was our first time at Lon Can Hall. We were pleasantly surprised. Tables were laid out very nicely, staff were efficient & pleasant. The food was fabulous but yet to try the steak.

Love the food, service and atmosphere. Had the fajitas/ nacho's off the specials menu absolutely gorgeous. My date had the garlic mushrooms and fajitas.

I DJed in this venue for a hen party in the Museum function room upstairs - I arrived early enough to check out this impressive location. Out of the way and off the beaten track, it is a gem to be discovered and chanced upon but I imagine that, once found, you would return again and again to bask in its warm, intimate atmosphere. The classic Victorian build has been incredibly well maintained (meaning, the doorways may not be easy to clear for the taller patron!) and the surrounding grounds are equally striking.

Called in off chance whilst driving home as didn’t fancy cooking. We had roast beef Sunday lunch. Big portion of slow cooked gorgeous beef, huge roasties & veg cooked perfectly. Very tasty gravy ! Lovely pub & will definately be returning to try the Yorkshire pudding burritos!

Totally superb Roast Beef Sunday lunch. Cooked to perfection, great presentation. The amount of beef is incredible, think of a very large steak about the size of your hand, basically you get your own joint of beef!!!! Reasonably prices beer and wines. Exceptional staff, very attentive and polite. A little out of the way in historic premises. What's not to like. Oh and very reasonably priced.

4 of us ate. All n all a great meal. Not one of complained. I will say that I didn’t like not having warmed plates?

Xmas night gets funkier each time. 2nd year going. What ambience, we usually book the function hall on first floor so we can all go crazy 🤪 great team great service!

Found on Google and called for Sunday Roast beef dinner. Succulent beef, beautifully cooked and presentation excellent. Wish I'd taken photos. . It's an ancient, aristocratic old hall (long low building) with an enchanting atmosphere and breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. A great choice for wedding receptions or similar. Would have given 10 stars if possible and will definitely call again.

Great service with plenty of care to ensure the table was looked after. Took three kids and had the Sunday lunch. Very tasty. Nothing was too much. They ensured the table had drinks and condiments.

A beautiful setting, great customer service and excellent food for our school reunion meal. My gnocchi was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. I will be coming again.

On finding ourselves in Halifax for a day out we stumbled across this beautiful historic, characteristic A Class building in the middle of no where. We decided to have our dinner and booked a table. Wow what a treat. The food was out of this world, the staff were so friendly and polite and the atmosphere of the building just made our meal that little extra special. The building has kept some of its own original features which is rear when it’s dated back to 1560. We had the British Beef Burrito and a trading roast beef dinner followed by a huge chocolate Sunday and home made sticky toffee pudding. The price was only £22 each including drinks. There is plenty of car parking spaces. We couldn’t have found a better restaurant to end our day out with such a fantastic experience. I highly recommend the Long Can Hall an opportunity not to be missed. Thank you Becky & the team xx

Had a surprise 60th birthday meal for my husband. Longcan Hall is a beautiful place. Becky and Clare couldn't do enough for us all. The food was amazing and we had the best birthday party ever. Everyone had a great time. Our party were in the Snug, which made it extra special, as it was just our family, 17 of us all together, it made the day extra special for us all. This is a great little pub, very old authentic building dating back hundreds of years. Great beer garden and food is top quality!

We went for Sunday lunch - I'd not had a traditional Sunday lunch in ages and I was craving one and WOW, I was not disappointed!! It was fabulous. The beef was so tender and tasty. Lots of Veg, great Yorkshire Puddings and plenty of gravy. Service from the young waiter Charlie was also great, very friendly and a really nice lad. We will return!

Booked for a table of 4 and so glad we did. From arriving to leaving we was greeted by Happy Helpful Friendly Staff. Going for the Sunday lunch was not disappointed a great portion for the hungry eater and even the small portion was a generous plate full. The slow cooked beef melted in the mouth and the roast veggies was cooked to my liking crispy on the outside nice and fluffy on the inside but every mouthful was a tasty delight to enjoy and enjoyed it was by all. Who can’t enjoy a hand pulled ale with beef I did and what a great pint it was. So to sum up if your looking for a place that serves great tasty food with hearty portions get a table booked at Long Can and enjoy. Thank you Long Can for the friendly greeting and delicious food can’t wait for our return to try more of your menu.

Long Can hosted a surprise meal for my partner’s birthday. The building is stunning, the organisation that went in to making sure everything was set up and ran smoothly was just perfect. The whole team were brilliant, particularly Becky and Claire who were just spot on, they made the whole event just perfect. There were 35 of us, including young children, and they made sure the kids were never sat waiting for food while the adults were eating which in itself is a huge help and reduces the stress of trying to entertain them! The food was absolutely amazing. The outside area is just beautiful and lots of us moved outside once we’d finished eating, it was also a lovely space for the kids to run around and play safely. Thank you for organising our event, you made it a breeze and everything was perfect, Long Can couldn’t have been any more accommodating. 10/10!

Had a lovely early lunch here on saturday in the sun. Really clean place toilets immaculate and the staff are lovely they make you feel very welcome and beautiful views over the valley from the beer garden. The food is tasty and reasonably priced I had a really nice chicken salad with freshly cooked tasty chicken and lots of different leaves and veggies and fresh garlic croutons. My partner had rump steak and chips and enjoyed it very much. Its a nice place to stop off on a walk and its dog friendly we have been a few times and will be back.

Was really looking forward to having a meal here, but it was nothing special. Had the hunters chicken - wasn’t presented very well same with the kids meal. Starters were lovely, overall though was disappointed & we won’t be returning. The photos look lovely & it is nice inside, but from outside seating area u can see high rise flats plus don’t think it helped that it was a warm sunny day all the local chavs seemed to be in the beer garden.

Stunning building... friendly service. My food wasn't great and rather overpriced but my friend chose differently and she said it was great and good value. Guess I chose the wrong thing.!

We had a family meal at Long Can Hall on Boxing Day. Becky and team were really helpful in accommodating 19 of us at relatively short notice and we even had the snug, a private room! No deposit was needed just the pre-orders for starters and mains. Food was delicious, all plates were emptied and everyone- even the fussy eaters!- commented on how lovely the food had been. After dinner a few of us had a couple of drinks by the roaring fire in the main bar. Will come back again.

Our first visit yesterday for Sunday lunch & I can hand on heart say it was the best I've ever had. The beef was slow cooked to perfection, the Yorkshire puddings were HUGE & gravy so rich & delicious. The veggies we're full of flavour. Long Can Hall itself is steeped in history & truly is a hidden gem. We will definitely be returning very soon. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS PLACE ♥️

Had Sunday dinner meal for 6 on 18th September. What a fantastic meal, 5 beef and 1 chicken meal, plate piled high, excellent ingredients. Staff very good at their job, compliments to the chef. Fantasticly clean beautiful building. Fully Recommended.

Excellent service and wonderful atmosphere. Tony, Becky and the team were fabulous. Arranged a family get together at very short notice and they didn't miss a beat. Snug venue was beautifully decorated and excellent venue for the private family gathering.. everyone said how marvellous it all was! Thank you again.

Food was average but when the manager/owner was sat outside smoking then to come back in and serve us our food without washing his hands was absolutely disgusting

A lovely place with a beautiful setting. We came here for Fathers Day this year and the meal was absolutely incredible. The beef we had on our roast had been slow cooked for 12 hours and you could really tell because it just melted in your mouth! The staff are professional and friendly too, it’s a really welcoming setting and it’s got a real homely feel. We will definitely be back!

Visited this venue today with family who were all looking forward to a meal together. Unfortunately we were saddened and rather disappointed with the meal portions. Some children's meals on the next table looked larger than ours. It started of well by being offered drinks on arrival, by helpful waitresses. It is a shame when food portions are reduced in a way to save money. Will not visit again. Linda Bialous

Been a number of times for Sunday lunch which is always top notch and that includes our last visit however only given 4 stars as when we were seated we were never asked if wanted a drink..I had to go to the bar and half way through our meal our drinks were finished and never asked if can get us drinks or is everything OK with the meal... ..the staff serving were really young and maybe needed a bit of guidance as to how to serve their customers

This was our first visit here. I always like to rate somewhere on how they cook a steak. I had rib eye (first time for this cut). I would give 5/5 . We will definitely recommend and re-visit.

We shared a beef baguette and 3 times cooked chips was enough for 2 and served on 2 very nice plate's. Really just what we needed.

Really lovely building and very good venue for Wedding Receptions, Christening Celebrations or just a really nice meal.

Very disappointing. The service was provided by a prepubescent youth who had no idea of how to serve customers. Not his fault. Food was poor quality, even managed to ruin chicken nuggets. I like to support local businesses but won’t be revisiting here until the management has changed its approach.

Long Can Hall is a fantastic traditional country pub. Heaped in history in a beautiful scenic location in Halifax. The beer garden is perfect for those sunny days. There's a lovely variety on the menu and the food tastes brilliant! All the staff are warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place whether it's drinks and a catch up or a good hearty meal!

Wonderful atmosphere very kind staff

We decided to hold a family gathering accompanied by a 3 course meal for 30 people to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary at The Longcan Hall. The menu was tailor made to suit or needs, nothing was to much trouble, a couple of the young ones having allergies of one type or another. All our needs and requirements were discussed with Claire who explained what her and the rest of the team intended doing do make our day memorable. We turned up on the Saturday to find the room beautifully decorated in keeping with a sapphire anniversary. When it was time to eat the first course was tasty and piping hot, followed by the mains, again brought out by the staff speedily and hot so all thirty guests ate at the same time, deserts followed when requested (at a time that suited us). All the food was delicious, served by courteous smiling staff who obviously took pride in the service they gave. The family members were so impressed by the food, service and general building and grounds which gave the children room to let of steam as opposed to being cooped up for almost 5 hours, that we have not hesitated to book another family gathering. Again, many thanks to all the kitchen staff, front of house people, and with a special thanks to Claire for being so patient and accommodating in making our day truly unforgettable.

I had heard great reviews about here. Visited for the first time recently. The building is amazing. The staff second to none and should be really appreciated or snapped up by another venue. The food let it all down ( no disrespect to the cooks because they work with the supplies they have) . The actual menu was poor . It would be such a great shame if this venue should close because with the foundations it could be spectacular place for all who live and visit halifax

A difficult one to review, Beautiful old building with loads of character, similar to the Great House in Elland. Ample parking at the front with far reaching views across the valley. Attended a wedding here yesterday and the food was superb. Can't comment on the cost of the food because the wife and I were guest's. The drinks at the bar however were a different matter. The wife and I like real ales and prefer bitter to larger. At the bar they have the choice of one spurious bitter which I purchased two pints of. It tasted awful and we struggled to drink it. We don't normally drink lager but for the second drink we purchased a couple of pints of Steller and I was shocked at the price... £9.00 for two pints. A little over the top we thought and that was the last we had to drink. It's a shame that such a beautiful building in such a scenic setting doesn't cater more for real ale enthusiasts because with such a large beer garden you would have lots of takers. Sorry about the four stars but we felt let down with the drinks...

Fish chips & peas but not as I know it 😫😬😒

Went on a Saturday after with family. What amazing views from the garden. Good selection of drinks, especially gin. Real shame was the food. Starter of chicken at £8 was 5-6 tiny strips (maybe 1 breast cut up). For mains chips were soggy and dark, fish was small and over cooked. Wife had veggie option and they forgot the vegetables. Great location and venue but disappointing food especially silly at the prices charged.

Recently had my son’s wedding reception. Perfect location, beautifully decorated room, meal was delicious and the staff were amazing. Can not recommend or thank staff enough for going that extra mile to make my son and his beautiful wife’s day perfect during these difficult times. THANK YOU.

We enjoyed a lovely father's Day meal yesterday. Clare, was the host with the most. Friendly, helpful and fun. The food was fantastic and the steaks were cooked perfectly. We have been before yesterday and we will be going again. We would definitely recommend long can hall to anyone. And the drive out there is an added bonus.

We had an amazing day at Long Can Hall for my daughters wedding. The room was beautifully decorated, the food was amazing, the staff were brilliant even the weather was perfect.

I booked lon can only two weeks ago for my mums birthday and asked for the snug for a family meal, they set me up a table to put her cake on and photos we had the room to ourselves the room was lovely and the food was lovely aswell as the service thanks so much for making my mums birthday special thanks

So glad you are back open , we missed you. We came on Wednesday evening and had the amazing beef baguette. We were hoping it was exactly the same as our previous visits . You didn’t let us down.so good after a walk on Saturday evening we stopped off fir a drink and ended up having something to eat again. Keep up the good work team , it’s lovely that you are open again.

For the first time we went for an early Sunday anniversary lunch with my wife and as usual the standard was high. The food was good and hot, the service 3xceptional and the ambience great. What more could be asked for except to keep open after lockdown.

I frequently walk past this lovely place nestling in the valley on the edge of fountainhead village and have always wanted to try it out. Sunday lunch with a friend was excellent. Lovely friendly staff, very good prices and excellent food in a historic building, all delicious. Definitely will be going back.
