Interesting shop/garden centre with clothing and Homeware. Prices are quite inflated unfortunately. The cafe is small but serves some delicious food. Nice when weather is good to sit outside. If you visit with a dog you will be told to keep on the floor (which is fine for large dogs) but some small minded anti dog person has obviously complained, when recently visiting with a tiny puppy we were holding her in our arms when we were suddenly told again by a grumpy waitress to keep dog away from the table! I understand for health and safety food and cleanliness reasons that dogs do not belong on a table of course, but that was never our intention and the puppy was just sleeping in my arms whilst I drank my coffee. No problem to anyone! We wouldn’t visit again with our dogs. Other cafes in Alresford make customers with dogs feel welcome. What a shame!

We enjoyed our visit to Long Barn. Service was good, quality of food served for brunch was good and special diets were catered for. Other half rated the coffee. I didn't like my egg being served on the toast - I like my toast as toast and my egg separately. Our other problem is that the tables are high and the chairs are low, I felt like a small child trying to reach up to a table and other half agreed, so it wasn't just me. Chairs are also very hard! We would have stayed longer if we'd been a bit more comfortable but maybe that's the cunning plan.. quicker turnover for more customers.

This is more of a cafe than a plant nursery or anything else as not many plants. They sell a few clothes, candles, dog things, garden gloves etc. A few shelves of cookery and Garden bits and food. Cafe gets bigger each time we go. Food nice but service is bad- never known so many staff be so slow ! Pleasant staff. So if you go be prepared to wait wait wait to order food , then get food then to pay! Not the place to go for a quick bite to eat. Food is better than other cafes close by though.

Left a bit disappointed with this place after our first visit. My wife, my daughter and I came here for lunch after hearing good things. And there are some positives, the building is lovely as is the shop, the staff are friendly and the location is nice. However, the quality of the food vs the cost is way off, I paid around £12.00 for a vegan breakfast plus an additional £2.00 per fried egg, that’s right per egg! My daughter had the kids breakfast and we paid £2.00 again for an additional sausage, the girl refused to substitute the beans for anything, including the small items (totally understandable that that beans and a sausage do not equal the same cost). Now whilst the above is reasonably high in cost I’m happy to pay it, if the food is good, but this place it really was not, it was very average. If you compare it to the Yard which is 10 minutes up the road, which also charges these amounts there not even close in terms of quality and appeal, the Yard you leave satisfied you got your monies worth in terms of the quality of the food. Also worth noting for any coffee lovers, the coffee here is not great either, again the Yard is better for there beans.

Dissapointing first and last visit to this Cafe, initial impressions were good as the place looked bright clean and airy. The menu looked interesting and prices were about par for what was on offer. That is as far as the good review goes. Having ordered 2 Flat white coffees, sat back and waited in anticipation of an enjoyable meal. The coffee duly arrived but in cups that were so small that you could hardly put a teaspoon in. I have had bigger Expresso drinks. Avurther ten min utes passed before we were able to order any food. The food took another 40 minutes to arrive, and the portions so small that I honestly thought we had mistakenly recieved someone else starters. But no that wasn't the case, so suddenly the price seemed extortionate. This is not Michelin stared quisine we are talking about but standard lunchtime fare. Having finished our main meal we had decided to have some cake; but alas after 45 minutes of trying to get the attention of a waiter, we gave up and decided to leave.

Over 35mins to provide coffee & cake, the coffee didn’t come until we had nearly finished the cake. Could be so much better- tables needed cleaning but staff busy doing nothing. Not just social distancing as a whole room has gone.We were asked if we would mind sitting in the marquee & replied no & were duly seated. It was a cloudy day with light rain showers & a cold wind. To say marquee was misleading as the only cover was the roof & 3 sides were fully open. It was cold & unpleasant. The cake was as delicious as ever but we rushed it due to the poor conditions.

Just back from the Long Barn at Alresford and a very disappointing experience. Whilst the setting is pleasant and pleasing to the eye, the customer service was disappointing to say the least. We made the mistake of ordering a gluten free brownie which was, to be frank, disgusting. We didn't eat it, but mentioned it by way of feedback to the waiter when we paid. His response, and I quote, "yes, it's disgusting; I wouldn't give it to my dog". In light of his comments, we then asked that he knock the cost of the brownie off the bill: which was over £27 for four coffees and four cakes, including the brownie. His response, regardless of the fact that he agreed with us about the taste, was "you ordered it, you pay for it!". Not, I suggest, the best way to respond to a customer's genuine complaint. We will not return, nor will we be recommending the Long Barn to any of our family or friends who all live locally.

I visited Long Bard on 7th Oct 2020 to meet a distant friend who I see every few of months. We chose the Long Barn as it was conveniently located. We met within the shop area at lunch time and took a look around before heading to the restaurant. Initially covid rules seemed strict & alcohol washes were offered as well as strict name registering although this seemed to change.Once sat down we both ordered the same which was Ginger cake as well as pots of tea with lemon slices. When these arrived, I was surprised to see the waiter placed the plates, cutlery, food & drink onto the table without gloves (standard to take the plates from the trays yourself). Also like many other places none of the cutlery had any kind of protection or covering. On Friday 9th Oct both myself & friend came down with suspected food poisoning with same symptoms. I was sick for 4 days & my friend is still currently sick & being tested for known strains. Both illnesses were reported to the NHS who advised that the situations is reported to Environmental Health & food standards for possible poisoning and poor covid rules.Even when I reported the possible poisoning and covid issue to thew business via their online messaging service (which they were also told to check via the restaurant manager) they failed to reply or respond with any feedback or recognition of the issue. This for any food offering business is shameful and also proof of their lack of responsibility to customers health.

I was taken to the Longbarn by a friend on a Saturday which, in hindsight, was probably not a good thing. Then waited for a table (With rather lax Covid distancing and surfaces and services being touched by all made me rather apprehensive). Table arrived and a waitresss took our order within 15 minutes. The things I decided upon (From a very limited choice) were no longer available so had to settle for a Fry-Up and which seemed rather pricey at £10 (It is not Rick Stein's) and a coffee. The drinks came after 15-20 minutes, we had to ask a few minutes later for sugar and a glass of tap water which ceremoniously carried in by hand (and fingered around the rim which I thought under the present circumstances would be a rather risky refreshment)..and then we waited...and waited.....and waited....and waited. Then we asked a passing waitress whether we had been forgotten and she assured us it was on its way....so we waited....and waited....and waited for a fry-up that never came. It probably was a blessing. As we had enough time whilst waiting to make plans for the remains of the day. We decided to pay for the drinks and go.Even though the has Barn has the welcoming decor of a gentrified Garden Centre, I had had enough of looking at it and it was a relief to be going. None of the staff seemed to care. There was a single "I'm sorry about that" from the 'Table Allocatress' on our way out but that seemed to be for the benefit of the queue of people waiting to center.I guess the place was 'unusually' busy as most popular places are every weekend. It was the first time I had attempted to eat something out since March it seems that not a lot has changed in the British hospitality industry.Unimaginative food, garnished with high prices.Unqualified low-paid staff, just waiting to get on with their future careers.I'll avoid sampling any of this kind of hospitality in future.Until there are fewer Covid clouds in the sky, I'll eat at home.

Many people came and left in that time, without bothering to wait for a table. The staff seemed anxious and stressed and not one welcoming smile amongst them. We had a large table which had four chairs around it, and there were five of us. We really had to push to have the fifth chair which made no sense whatsoever, as Covid rules say that we are allowed eight in a group. It all seemed too scary for them to move one chair. Having said all that, once we were finally sat at our table an hour after our arrival, the service was efficient and the sandwiches were really delicious. I won’t be back until we can book a table as I don’t often have time to wait an hour for a table. But if you have time to wait, the lunches are worth waiting for.

The food looked nice, if slightly pricey too but we were told there would be a wait for any hot food so we just had a snack from the bar. The coffee was lovely and they had a few alternative milks to choose from which is always nice, friendly staff and a very clean, nice area in general to eat in. Had lunch with a friend and we had a bowl of vegetable soup and a cup of tea. Extremely expensive for a bowl of very ordinary vegetable soup and a couple of bits of cold toast. Much better places in Alresford try Heidi's much nicer!!

This morning I went and had coffee and toast at the Long Barn. I hadn’t been for several months as my last visit hadn’t been too successful. This time I ordered coffee and toast at 09.30. Only one other person had arrived at this time. My coffee which is very good came quickly. After 20 minutes I asked if my toast was actually going to arrive. It did eventually by which time i had finished my coffee. Apart from the lad who cleared my table and wished me a good day, i find once again the staff far too casual and inefficient. The staff in the shop area however are very good.

My visit left me a little confused as the website said it is a farm shop and on arrival looks like a garden centre but the food prices suggest it is a bistro. Food is very expensive we went for lunch but settled on tea and cake which was ok but unfortunately nothing great.

The menu is very restricted and all items are quite expensive compared to other cafes and tea rooms. There was 3 choices of filled roll and all were about £10. We went for the special but that was really average food. Long queues and sadly won't be returning.

The food is absolutely amazing. Fresh, exciting menu, really tasty and never disappoints. What keys this place down is the service from the staff. Either they are understaffed so run around like headless chickens or just so disorganised. Every time we book in advance so you turn up with a reservation yet every time there are people on our allocated table and the staff feel awkward to ask them to leave. And hire extra staff to avoid the stupidly long and slow queue at the till to order, and then they walk off to answer an query while you are in mid sentence. It’s happened all three of our last visits, great food but terrible service.

This is now one of my new favourite places to visit. My friend and her family come here a lot and now I know why. The food is delicious (I had a pulled pork pasty with the best piccalilli... so good I bought some to take home)! The venue is really designed well so you can sit in or outside, and even part of the barn that is undercover but the sides are removed in nice weather.

Ok - so first up it's worth saying that the coffee and toast here is good. The toast is made from nice bread and the coffee has a smooth roast taste. The broader menu us nice and has a reasonable range of offerings. The cakes are good too. The staff are generally pleasant and the surroundings are pretty nice. What constantly irks and the only reason for this 'average' rating I have given, is the very regular long and fragmented wait for food to be served. My friends and I stop here regularly, at least once a week and always order the most basic of things - coffee and toast. We always sit outside unless the weather is bad. The coffee arrives within a reasonable time (mostly) however pretty much every time, the toast arrives well after we have finished our drinks. If this was a one off or a 'couple of times' occurrence perhaps when they were super busy, it would be understandable. But it is every single time, whether they are busy or not. This most recent visit I actually specifically asked the girl on the till if the toast would come out at the same time and she said yes definitely. It didn't. I wouldn't mind so much accept I paid £22.70 for three Coffee's and toast and jam for three people so it's not like it's close to being a bargain. I do struggle to understand how they can mess this up so often. I'm not the only person in my circle of friends or acquaintances to comment on the hotchpotch service and the 'long wait at the long barn' - it's actually now become a 'thing'. So on that basis I believe I'm not being unreasonable in my feedback here - it is a fairly universal joke that for whatever reason they can't organise the service properly. Anyway, if things like this don't bother you and you can afford £5.50 for three pieces of toast and jam then in every other respect the Long Barn cafe is A-Ok.

We visited Long Barn for the first time today. There was half an hour wait for lunch but what we had was very tasty. However at £11.75 for a Pasty, some potato salad and piccalilli it was extortionate. A fish finger sandwich was about £8.50. For that and two soft drinks it came to nearly £30. I think they really need to revisit their prices.

Visited the Barn to have a browse around and decided to have some lunch there. The cafe area is very well presented and plenty of space to eat inside or out. The lunch menu is not extensive but the options are different from the norm which makes a nice change. I decided on the beetroot & vegetable salad at £11.95 but I have to say it had some amazing flavours. My friend had a sandwich but said it was very tasty and the ingredients together were delicious. Maybe slightly pricey for a cafe but I would go back to maybe try a cake from the great selection next time.

I visited the cafe today during a bike ride with friends. I opted for the sour dough toast with a selection of preserves, costing £5.50. The portion of toast was large (3 slices of different sour doughs) and very tasty. However the butter portion was pathetic, barely enough for one slice and rather than a selection of preserves, as advertised, I was asked at the till to choose between marmalade or jam. My friend and I asked for more butter, which was given, but it was still insufficient and I therefore couldn't finish the toast. Even the jam portion was megre and not enough for the quantity of toast.

Having been here before and returned as it’s brilliant, today was slightly off key. We went for lunch and the service was not great, from the moment we arrived we felt ignored. We were literally walked past by three different members of staff while we patiently waited at the counter just to find out where are reserved table was. However, the food made up for it when we eventually got someone to take out order. It’s such a shame and we hope today was just a blip. But it wasn’t even overly busy yet the service was disappointing. Excellent salmon fish cakes though

Barn style coffee shop with 2 sections to the cafe. One section is inside and warm (the original cafe) and the other section is an extension with more tables and plastic glass drop down windows to enable you to see out at all times. I assume this is rolled up in the summer. It can be a little drafty in the cooler months in the extension but you do get the benefit of the light.

Always a friendly welcome (no matter how deshevelled the punter!) Cycle racks out the back and plenty of outdoor seating too. English Breakfast Tea and an array of (really quite generous sized) cakes to die for! An ideal mid ride stop off if you're taking in a ride near Alresford. Which, Incidentally offers great (and hilly) traffic free cycling away from the towns. Highly recommended!

Having visited this cafe many times, my visit on 3rd February for brunch did not meet with the standards I would expect. Clearly VALUE FOR MONEY is NOT on the agenda as the very small bacon sandwich I had, although the piece of brown bread and the bacon were tasty, for £7 did not convince me I was getting a plate of food that was worth the money. Why not add some salad and crisps which would cost next to nothing and would show that this cafe gives their customers value for money. In today's climate surely a little more effort in producing a nice plate of food would be the primary objective.

Brunch here with friends is one of my very favourite things to do. I adore the setting and the feel of the place. An al fresco coffee here on a sunny day sets me up for the rest of the week. It's a fabulous spot for a mooch and a potter. I'd give it 5 stars but (and I see others agree with me on here) one particular lady in the cafe always comes across as incredibly inconvenienced. It ticks all the other boxes for me though so I'm determined not to let her put me off.

The afternoon tea was good, the sandwiches were OK but the cakes and scones were really nice, the only thing that let this place down was the staff the young ones weren't to bad but there was an older lady that had an attitude problem when I asked for another coffee it was as if I had asked for something that I wasn't allowed, the look I got, really if u don't like doing your job don't work there!!!
