This appeared to be the only café open in Calstock when we went, so it’s not much to say it was the best cafe in Calstock, but it probably is …. Warm welcome, great coffee, extremely clean toilets (not often mentioned but hugely welcomed), tasty snacks! Highly recommended Thank You!

Arrived in Calstock at lunchtime and my wife suggested having lunch in Lishe Coffee Shop. As it was unseasonally chilly, we ate inside. I had a hot BLT which was excellent, washed down with a pot of Cornish tea. My wife and MIL had eggs on toast. The egg yolk was really yellowy as it should be. The coffee shop is small, but very welcoming.

Lunch at Lishe will be one of my most memorable meals out of the year I am sure. The salmon and samphire quiche was delicious but what made it remarkable was the salad components which accompanied. Quite a charming venue. The food is certainly different from the norm, in a nice way. One problem for us was that it seamed a little disorganised. The service was very slow, which was a shame as the menu and quality of the food was good. Let's be positive to begin with - nice setting, friendly lady behind the counter and quirky décor (the central lamp was astonishing). But then...I'd be smiley if I was going to charge £6.50 for a bowl of tepid soup with bread - pointing to its home-made credentials doesn't justify the warm in the centre cold at edges signs that it's been wacked in a microwave. Still we should have said something and didn't...so that's our fault. However what we did find alarming was watching one of the staff prepare a trifle: pour hot custard on to the trifle and then put it back in the chiller. We watched as the chiller filled with steam and the temperature display on the outside rocketed...we left before we spotted any other breach of Food Hygiene protocols.
