Cafe was quite empty carpets were dirty whole place very untidy ordered food surprised by being asked to pay before food was served Food was OK but nowhere near the quality it use to be Will definitely not be back

on a wet windy Saturday morning decided a nice breakfast would be in order, we popped into lily's as looked traditional, spelt strongly of paint , however ordered our breakfast and 2 coffees, service was quick and direct, never ordered food in a Cafe seated with only 5 other people and been given the bill and asked to pay before we've even eaten, thought this was really odd , we may have wanted more coffee, food? food was ok, service ok but direct, Old fashioned.

We stopped here earlier on the year and again this week while visiting the area on holiday. What a breakfast, we paid £20 for two big breakfasts (good quality bacon and sausages), chips for hubby ( choice of skinny or chunky) and a j20 and a tea. Amazing value!! The lady who runs it is lovely and remembered us from last time

Absolutely fabulous food and the customer experience was outstanding. From the moment you arrive you made to feel so welcome it’s so untrue. The lady who is front of house is an absolute credit to the business and don’t change. Is a credit to see good old fashion customer service skills. Everyone is made to feel welcome and nothing is to much trouble.

We wanted a good breakfast after staying at the Premier Inn the night before and did not want a wetherspoons type offering. We chose a large and small full English and the quality and size of of the portions was fantastic. It filled us up for the whole day. Disappointing. The waitress appeared totally disinterested, having to be reminded that a cup and saucer usually accompany a pot of tea. She seemed more interested in chatting to a couple of people she knew rather than people who were waiting to be served. The food, when it finally arrived, was at the best very average. Nothing like as good as it was under the previous owner. Won’t be going back.

We have been to Lily's a few times and had even written a glowing review about our positive experiences (now removed) but everything changed on our last visit. We had a poor welcome with an unfriendly glare from behind the counter from one of the staff, who we later discovered was the owner's daughter. She appeared disinterested and clearly did not want to be there. The service was slow despite there being only a handful of customers. We were disappointed with our order as it was not what we expected. The owner's daughter said the coffee comes in a small cup with the tea cake but we explained we had the tea cake and coffee last time and the coffee was served in a mug. She said she would charge us for a larger coffee. One staff member said later that she always serves the coffee in mugs. We waited ages for our tea cakes. They were served separately and some time apart, the first slightly over done and the second was burnt (we suspect deliberately). The staff were in the kitchen with the door open discussing us in a derogatory manner and in turn popping their head out to glare at us. When the owner's daughter and another member of staff left one said, "you've been told" and the owner's daughter angrily rolled her eyes at us. We were given a replacement tea cake and coffee after the other two staff left and the owner decided we did not have to pay, but this did not amend the awful experience we encountered. The owner knowing what was going on kept herself in the kitchen and left the remaining waitress to apologise for what was the worst experience we have ever had. It was abusive and hostile, and needless to say we will not be returning. We were later approached by a couple who had been at Lily's. They said their meal was awful and the portions small but having seen what they did they decided not to say anything. None of this makes good business sense. They have lost our custom and that of our friends and family, as well as the two customers who witnessed their unprofessional approach and the tirade of disdain, hostility, and rudeness towards us. They like us will never go back.

Came here with my cousins for lunch. We were offered a set menu to choose from that seems a bit much for lunch so the lady gave us a lighter bites menu . should have been given to us straight away I think. I had ham sandwich with a handfull of chips ( tiny ) and my cousins had a ham salad. Was ok ... nothing special. I think the clientele they are looking for are OAPs that spend lots for little portions. I wouldn’t go again. The service was very good hence the average rating.

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch near Debenhams and found Lily's Vintage Tea-Rooms. There is seating inside and outside. There are comfortable chairs and well spaced tables. The menu has breakfast, light lunch and usual tea room produce. We elected to have a crab and avocado salad and hot chocolate to drink. The salad was beautifully presented, delicious, and as good as if not better than any other we have had. The hot chocolate was in a tall glass and very tasty. I saw someone having tea from a china tea pot with a strainer to catch the tea leaves. The tea rooms have only recently opened and seemed very popular. We would certainly go back again

Went today with my mum and young son. The place had an uncomfortable feel of a private members cafe which requires you to be over the age of 75. The staff weren't very friendly and they have no high chairs available - apparently you aren't meant to be able to go for a coffee if you have a child in tow.We try to support local businesses where possible, and decided to visit this place after it significantly improved its hygiene rating, however we weren't made to feel welcome at all so didn't even order in the end and went to a cafe in town where the food is good and the service friendly. Ordered the Lily's big breakfast at £7.95 + 50p for extra hash browns, including drink, fruit juice, toast and marmalade. Nice to have a set table with table cloth and napkins. Breakfast arrived looking great on nice oval plate with the best butchers sausages and tasty bacon along with fried slice, hash browns, grilled tomato and small portions of beans and mushrooms. Coffee was so nice I had another, great price for all that quality food and drink. Nice touch was the Chef came out and asked how my meal was. Just dropped in for a meal at this restaurant in Paignton with my Wife. The time was a little before two in the afternoon. We noticed it on the way past and it looked welcoming and had a friendly smile from the chef inside as we walked past the window. We entered the restaurant to find it an attractive place. We waited, briefly to be seated and with a friendly greeting we were offered the choice of two tables. We chose our table and were immediately handed the menus. The menus offered a nice range of fare. I chose gammon steak and my wife chose plaice. Our orders were taken as quickly as we were ready. i.e. the staff were quick to recognise that we had made our decisions. The restaurant was a little under half full and as people left the restaurant their places were immediately taken by incoming customers. Our meals were served in good time, about ten minutes. My gammon steak was very enjoyable, served with pineapple and a cheese sauce with a mixture of veg plus potatoes. One of the most enjoyable meals I've had in sometime. My Wife says that she couldn't better it. We had deserts. I had Apple pie and custard whilst my wife had Apple and raspberry crumble. Very enjoyable meal, good service and nice surroundings. No stone is left unturned-- there is a licence for an alcoholic beverage and the tea is served in a pot.My friend advised that in all his trips to the UK that dinner rated best in his opinion.Canadians love their beef!I myself had an excellent fish dish and would advise that it too ranked No1 for me.I'd advise anyone to visit Lily's when in Paignton.

Living in the City of Bath, we are used to a choice of modern cuisine, plenty of 'fusion' and 'with-a-twist', lots of variation on the tapas theme and of course the usual anglicised ethnics, Thai, 'Indian', Chinese, West Indian etc. Here in Paignton on a flying visit we were delighted to find Lily's, a restaurant out of time where quality food is cooked, presented and served just as it should be. We both had the zingily-fresh prawn cocktail to start, followed by excellent grilled plaice. Mine was accompanied by the traditional chips and peas which were as good as they could be. My wife is on a low-fat diet so instead had baby potatoes and veg; carrots, mashed swede, cabbage, peas, all perfectly cooked and delicious. From the extensive dessert menu I chose Bailey's bread pudding with clotted cream which was superb. Moby had chocolate brownie (so much for the fat-free diet) which she loved, but proved too much for her. We each had a refreshing glass of the house dry white, and I would have had another had I not been driving. The service was warm, friendly, attentive and efficient, and the bill when it came was cheeringly reasonable. Sincerely, I cannot remember the last time I ate such a good lunch! Paignton has always stood in the shadow of her more glamorous sister Torquay, but Lily's is more than enough reason alone to pay a visit. It's a good step from Bath but we shall be making the effort.

Would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch. It's a pity it isn't open evenings. Food was tasteful and waiting time was minimal. Good food and great comfortable eating

We arrived and didnt make the best impression with a 3mth old screaming her head off because she was hungry, 2 adults and children in tow. The waitresses were amazing the couldnt do enough to accommodate us and a pram. They were very considerate to the point of asking how much squash would we like for the children so they were too strong. We ordered a jacket potato, and 3 rounds of sandwiches, the food arrived very quickly and was of a lovely presentation and quality. There were lots of locals in there who all went quiet when we walked in but went back to their meals once we had sat down. Overall a lovely tearoom with exceptional staff and service. Thank you.

We were looking forward to visiting this tearoom but left feeling rather let down. There was no offer of a high chair for our daughter, and it felt as if we were intruding on a private club where regulars came in and expected the same table, week in week out. There was nothing special about this place, so much so that we cancelled our order of cakes, paid, and left as soon as possible. I would not recommend this place if you have very small children or even if you're a holidaymaker.

We had been looking for a café that wasn't a greasy-spoon or a Costa and fell upon Lilly's.It is quite quaint and old-fashioned. The staff were very friendly and polite and we had a lovely lunch - homemade soup and jacket potatoes - nothing fancy but very tasty and really well done.Good value for money and a great little place.

This is a place the local aged challenged go for traditional English meals.very good value at £12 for two courses of main and desert. Some older people go here every day for lunch with although not a Carvery is exceptional.very traditional proper roast with four veg and roast potatoes exceptionally well cooked by Andy Cocker the owner. Also do lighter lunches and cakes. This is very old school English and always very busy.never seen anyone under 60 here and it's a treasure of Devon. My favourite place for lunch bar none.

always call here for breakfast before travelling home - the cafe is olde-worlde (in a good way!) & lovely - very calm & relaxing atmosphere. The large breakfast is exactly what it says - very tasty sausages & bacon, eggs, beans, tomato with a choice of hash browns or fried bread (I love the hash browns) with tea/coffee, orange juice, toast & your choice of marmalade/jam. All very reasonably priced and very tasty with excellent service.

What the staff have to put up with is disgusting he shouts an hollers swearing at them with no regard to the customers sat in the restaurant food is ok yes its fresh but warmed up in microwaves the fish an chips are made to order.the staff need a medal as big as a dutbin lid keep up the great work ladies

Delicious scones, cream and strawberry jam washed down with a better cup of tea than I ever made - and all served on proper china too!

Had coffee/tea cakes. Service not very fast. Well a teacake is a teacake, can't really say more than that. Coffee average. Big minus was the tiny toilet which didn't flush properly and was very dirty. That made me wonder what the kitchen looked like, not keen to go back again. It was quite busy being a Saturday so perhaps this was a one-off. I do feel that toilet facilities should be kept spotless, maybe this is not so important for everyone?

Lovely clean and welcoming! I always have breakfast in Lilys when visiting Paignton. Not a spot of grease on the plate, very good quality sausages and bacon, very well presented - you would be hard pressed to find a better full english, with tea, toast and a glass of juice - excellent! For the quality its good value as well. From what I've seen - lunch looks good as well!!

Went for lunch and a cream tea, they were friendly (we had the buggy so found a suitable table to accommodate this). The lunch was okay ordered granary bread but got pre-sliced seeded batch, which was disappointing and would have loved butter on the bread too, so not value for money. The scones were great, warm and tasty could have done with more cream though!

Quaint inside, but the food is lovely - beautifully cooked. I always have the pan-fried liver with bacon and onions. Extra gravy if required. Fabulous vegetables - beautifully cooked. Generous portions. Excellent value as you can have two courses for £11. I have pea and mint soup to start (could have been a bit hotter, it was a bit on the lukewarm side) which was absolutely delicious, with a generous portion of bread. For a filling lunch at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong :)

Been there so many times and after some years since we last went I am glad to say that it is as good as ever! Just make sure that you allow time to find a seat - especially at lunchtimes. Don't expect rap music in the background though (thankfully)!

The family arranged a birthday lunch for me. The new owners and staff were lovely, making the room and tables nice with white linen cloths, glitter and deccies. The food was outstanding as always, with the added bonus of attentive staff for our party. A great price, a great atmosphere, great food and very welcoming for all ages and abilities. Would recommend and definitely go again. Well done all.

Booked for Saturday dinner. Got to the restaurant only to find it had been closed for months. They kept sending us reminders about our booking as well. Disgraceful.

Disappointed. Rude staff openely complaining about customers. Eye rolling muttering and swearing under their breath. Avoid on a busy saturday, however I wont go back - ever. The tall guy with a beard needs to change career. Waited over an hour for food 3 out of 7 of us were ill the next day

Had a lovely meal here while on holiday. Food presentation and taste was exemplary. Staff very accommodating as we hadn't booked and the view of the harbour charming. Couldn't fault it.
