Just home after an absolutely delicious lunch at Lightcliffe tea rooms today. Lots of choice on the usual menu plus February specials. I went for the BBQ chicken, bacon & cheese baguette and hubby had the breakfast omelette and we shared a bowl of chips. All from the specials list. The food was hot and obviously fresh, including the salad. No limp lettuce or soggy tomato here! Most importantly, all the good was seriously good. It was full when we visited and I was glad I had booked a table. We did overhear the waiting staff having to tell some people they couldn't take food orders as they were so busy, the way they apologised and explained was a credit to the team. All in all, this was a very pleasant lunchtime outing!

I contacted the team to ask if they were open for people to sit in again and the response I got was “ Hiya Yes we have been open for a few weeks now” ok......a bit abrupt but they must be under pressure. Every time I asked a question the response was in the same abrupt manner, but I thought that some people do come across as abrupt on line, but are actually lovely in person. I asked to book afternoon tea for 2 adults and 2 children. As they offer a take away option for children, I assumed that this would be ok.....but I was quickly corrected with “ We don’t do a child’s afternoon tea at the moment....are you wanting an adults on for each of the children?”. I was unsure what this meant so I asked if they meant for the children to share - the response was “Up to you....?” And “Depends on the age of the children?”. I was fed up with the tone at this point, pointed it out and said thanks but no thanks. They replied “ All I meant was if they are little children then, one to share would be fine, but if they are older children and depending on their appetite they may want one on their own, I usually suggest children sharing as they are quite large” I explained that they had not said this and repeated their replies to them. I pointed out that I felt that they were abrupt, unhelpful and patronising. I explained

Took my daughters here as part of my youngest's 2nd birthday celebration. We rang beforehand to request a party afternoon tea suitable for a 2 and 4 year old. The team made a really lovely spread with very short notice (sorry again about that) and had it ready as a surprise when my daughter walked in - at a reserved table complete with frilly tablecloth, right next to a selection of toys and games. Excited squeals were followed by tucking in to a really nice and age-appropriate selection. And the toys meant me and my husband could relax and enjoy our own food even once they'd finished. We really appreciated the effort made for our girls, and enjoyed the food and friendliness of the staff whilst we were there too. Thank you!

Two of us went to this tearoom today and the waiting times were just silly. We ordered cold drinks, sandwiches and cake. The sandwiches came first and were very nice but we had to ask twice for the drinks and then they had forgotten what we ordered. We could then see that the drinks were on the counter but had to ask again for them to be brought over . The cake was not forthcoming even after three requests then one girl got the right cake out, wandered off to do something else and another girl put it back!! If you should go here , sit near the counter, at least you can see your food waiting to be delivered and remind the staff it’s there or as some people did just fetch it yourself ! Lovely food let down by terrible service

I have visited this spot on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed the food and friendly service. The decor is also very nice. The only downside is the smoke emanating from the kitchen. This reminds me of the show Stars in their eyes when the contestants entered the stage through a plume of smoke! If there isn’t room to sit in the back you will unfortunately smell of your breakfast for the remainder of the day. All in all a lovely spot which would definitely benefit from some air conditioning.

Went to tearoom for a snack on Sunday. Previous visit was a bad experience as they got the order wrong and forgot our drinks altogether. Gave them another chance. Ordered two Christmas themed sandwiches and a prawn one. Prawn sandwich was tasteless and on cheap bread. Pork sandwich was one slice of reformed pork and cheap tasting stuffing again on cheap bread. Turkey sandwich was in a baguette but the turkey was again reformed rather than from a joint. Considering the price we all were very disappointed with the quality and taste. Had to ask for our tea as this had been forgotten. Needless to say we will not be returning.

We have been visiting the tea rooms for a while now but were very disappointed with the recent trip. Went for breakfast as usual on a Sunday morning. The young people behind the counter are very pleasant but lack conversation and experience. When the food arrived, the cheese on toast was more like bread with only one side slightly toasted and the cheese was not melted through. My mother ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and the bacon was quite clearly pre cooked and warmed up as it was as hard as a rock. Now I like crispy bacon but this was way past that.

The windows were all steamed up and the place smelt of a cheap cafe. The kitchen extraction was very poor and I had to wash all our coats on returning home. The order was taken by a young girl that didn’t seem to know what she was doing and I had to clarify the order twice which they still got wrong. It seemed pointless complaining as the staff didnt seem to be bothered about their customers. Called in for a late lunch. Quite busy but there were a number of empty tables. Ordered and paid for a chicken salad baguette and a tuna mayonnaise baguette. A few minutes later we were told that they had run out of chicken so changed order to a BLT baguette. Despite my husband pointing out that they were the same price on the menu the person serving insisted that the BLT was cheaper and gave us a refund. When lunch arrived I was given a baguette complete with small side salad but my husband was presented with two slices of white bread containing a minimal amount of bacon, couple of slices of tomato and two small lettuce leaves. Served on a tea plate with no side salad or dressing. We had also ordered two lattes which were brought well before the food and were lukewarm. I was walking my dog near by so thought I would all for a takeout coffee. They were using a delonghi dolce gusto coffee machine. They told me it was only temporary but they still charged me £2.40. They had a sign up stating coffee was £1.80. When I challenged them about this I was told "you get more coffee in a takeout cup and so therefore it's a fair price" the coffee was red hot I could barely hold the cup and it was disgusting, i threw it in the first bin in the park. you can sit in many coffee shops and have a large coffee for that price so I hardly think the price was fair. It's not one of my preferred places to call for coffee as the coffee is never warm enough and the cups are very small for the price they charge. It's just handy to call when walking my dog. I won't be bothering in future.

I visited Lightcliffe Tea Rooms today for the 3rd time. The food has always been delicious and served with a smile. Today was no different until I got to nearly the end of my omelette and toast and noticed a hair on my plate!! I could not finish the rest of my meal as I found this very off putting. I called the waitress over and she said that she would point it out to the chef and come back to me. We waited a good 5 minutes but she did not return. We got up to leave and the waitress was talking to the chef behind the counter. She saw us but carried on talking so we decided to wait. She finished her conversation and upon realising we were not leaving, started to tell him about the hair. He went into the kitchen and came back out behind the counter and shouted over to me “it isn’t mine”, to which I responded “well it definitely isn’t mine”. He then proceeded to bring the hair from the plate and wave it in front of me in the middle of the tea rooms. At no point was an apology given or any acknowledgement of error. The hair definitely did not belong to me or anyone in my party as it was UNDER the omelette and curly. Had I have noticed it earlier I would have sent my food back. Because it was at the end, I did not require a new meal, all I wanted was to raise awareness so that it hopefully will not happen to anyone else and maybe even a sincere apology. What I actually got was the chef saying to me “I don’t know what you want me to say”. This is not the type of customer service I would expect from Lightcliffe Tea Rooms.

Great to just pop in and have a decent All Day Breakfast or a delicious Panini type sandwich - choose from a good range of fillings etc. Follow this up with one of their fantastic, locally made cakes and a nice cup of tea or coffee.

We had our daughters 5th birthday party in the back room today. She had a fab day! We had an Alice in Wonderland theme (mad hatters tea party) the kids got teacups and had teapots with juice and all of their afternoon tea was beautifully arranged on a tiered cake stand! They felt really grown up! Nick and Amelia were brilliant, always there to help if we needed anything! Would definitely recommend!

My granddaughter loves visiting the Tea Rooms in school holidays as she says they make the best egg mayo sandwiches ever, I too enjoy them, unfortunately there were 2 very noisy ladies at the next table, I don't really want to hear about their drunk escapades but thankfully they left after ten minutes, peace reigned

We called in here after a lovely walk and food was lovely. Service was a little slow but everyone is served in turn so there are no 'queue pushers'. Good atmosphere and will definitely be returning.

I have been to the tea rooms many times and although very expensive have always enjoyed the food and service has always been of a very high standard unfortunately this was not the case this morning, having ordered my unbelievably expensive breakfast I was confronted by a plate of what can only be described as transport cafe food, the eggs were burnt around the edges, the yokes were rock hard, the bacon was overcooked and tough and the black pudding (what there was of it) was so overcooked it was inedible and all this was dumped on top of each other.I can only assume the chef was having a day off and the cooking was left to someone who had no idea what food is supposed to taste or look like.

I hate having to do this but I have tolerated poor service, late opening and yoyo pricing for too long now. We have spent a lot of money here in the past and because it is local and when you eventuslly get the food it is really nice, although it is definitely on the slide. So, we have tolerated incredibly slow service and we have sat outside on several occasions but I am not going to do it again. This morning we arrived at 9am and sat outside until 9:15 ... they simply have no concept of good service and to be honest there are several other local options and they don't deserve loyalty . Sorry.

I have been to the cafe several times when I visit friends in the area. Each time the service has been friendly and the team Amelia Sally and Susan create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Home cooked food is excellent and I can confidently say the team serve the best bacon sandwich I have ever had - well done ladies keep up the great work

Been several times and always say I won't go again. Service very slow takes ages just to get a coffee, expensive too compared to their local cafes. Breakfast was good but took forever and the room was very chilly.

I have visited this tearoom over the past 2 years on and off for lunch or afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed my visits and recommended it to friends..the last few visits have not been great, I don't know if it's changed hands but I don't recognise any of the staff... It's looking tired and a little dirty in areas, and the cake fridge has prints all over it, I visited today with my husband for tea and cake, on walking in there was not 1 table clean!!! You could hear all staff talking in the kitchen, a few came out and 1 young lad started wiping the tables with a blank expression on his face, I was seated at this point and on seeing him make his way back to the kitchen, I had to ask if he could clean our table before our order came, which he did...the tables are always wobbly which leaves half your tea on the saucer...the scones were lovely as always, I can't fault the food but the customer service and cleanliness is not as it used to be...I miss the cosy feel, friendliness and professionalism that it used to have..the young staff need training up properly on basic skills and communication...such a shame but I not be visiting again...

First visit. English Breakfast and Omelette were delicious, as was the white chocolate cake. Tea in China cups was nice too :-). Pleasant staff but service was a bit slow. However, it was rather busy.

Having not been here for a while, had a Sunday visit here with friends for coffee & cake & a catch up. The coffee & cake was lovely, albeit slight confusion with the order! The main problem is the kids corner with the toys great idea to entertain the kids, we have all been there! Coffee catch up whilst the kids play but with parents allowing there kids to roam around the tea rooms getting louder & louder in front of other dining customers doesn't leave for a great experience. Whilst they sit & chat away on the furthest tables away from there own children - is it a Tea Room or a Crèche? Maybe those parents would be better at a play gym!

Called whilst out walking in the area. Ordered tea for two and asked for the single piece of Victoria sponge left on the plate in the display cabinet. Paid, then waited and waited and waited. The cafe was quiet and at least 4 staff were visible. I asked if we were going to be served and the assistant looked totally bewildered but admitted that she had taken the order and the slip of paper was there waiting on the counter. Returned to our table and waited another 5 minutes by this time the girl was in the kitchen relating that we had asked to be served. We decided to call it a day and ask for a refund. A further assistant appeared and after some effort was able to refund our money - no apology from any of the staff present! Crazy experience!

I've been going to the tearooms since it opened, and always enjoy the food. The only niggle I have now, is the wobbly tables! My cup of tea, which was in a beautiful cup & saucer, spent more time in the saucer due to constant wobble everytime either myself, or my child, leant on it. It is also starting to look a little shabby in places, could do with a lick of paint etc.
