Have just had the absolute pleasure of experiencing a night’s stay at Lewinnick Lodge. The unassuming road to this restaurant with rooms caused me to wonder what to expect but from the minute we walked into the place we were greeted by friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere and spectacular views! We were delighted with the ocean view room, perched just a few metres above the Atlantic which offered uninterrupted views of diving gannets, cormorants and seals! The room was beautiful, tastefully curated and included a bath tub with a sea view in addition to the separate shower. Little touches such as the binoculars and retro radio told us Lewinnick Lodge have thought carefully about their guests’ experience. We dined in the restaurant where staff were friendly, engaging and attentive with a laid back approach which ensured we did not feel rushed - the perfect balance. We could have stayed forever!

Poor show -long wait for both courses so long -we didn’t bother with ordering a desert, this was meant to be an engagement celebration for my son and his fiancée with champayne and a 3 course meal A beautiful location let down by poor cooking eg Thai fish cakes ?? (Certainly not) average burgers and very poor Caesar salad. Poor slow service with 1 lovely waitress who was doing her best- drinks were also slow to come once ordered A very bad performance from a restaurant where we have had excellant food and service in the past.

3rd time visiting Lewinnick Lodge, me and my wife celebrated a birthday and spent our honeymoon and now our 2nd wedding anniversary here. Great location, easy access, nice places to drive or walk. The rooms we stayed so far: superior oceanside and now luxury double are just fantastic. Amazing view, massive super cozy bed, must mention the monsoon shower which is my personal favourite. Staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful, always there when you need something. On a personal note, I must mention that special thanks to Jose who made us feel at home and always had time for a quick chat. Also Edith who makes the most amazing cocktails and remembered us from our 1st visit back in 2021, it was soo nice to see you and have a chat. So much more to say but why don't you visit and try it yourself, it's worth it.

We booked last minute when our original booking went into administration. The food was good and at times excellent and not sure where 'warm cocktails' came from on a previous review. We had several and all were delicious and cold. Can highly recommend the spiced dark and stormy made with the bartenders own home made ginger syrup. We had an Oceanside room and the views were fantastic as were the rooms. Beautifully furnished and decorated with some lovely touches like fresh milk for your hot drinks of which a nespresso machine and good sully local teas were provided. The service was a little slow occasionally but we chose this place to relax so this meant we didn't feel rushed either. I do agree that this may be irritating if you're looking to get in and out more quickly but I think that they are working to improve this and the staff were friendly and hard working throughout. Overall we would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

If you are a person of brown colour do not go there, because you will be mistreated. Due to the colour of our skin we were not treated well. We were looked down, and made to feel un-wellcome. Went there for birthday celebration of my partner, booked 7 months in advance, ensured that we will be placed where we asked since booking so early. Called them a week before going there they said sure the place is reserved, called one day before the birthday and was told the place is reserved for you, But once we got there we were refused despite the place being empty. And the table was given to someone else. I understand that it is a restaurant but don't discriminate just because of persons skin colour.

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend last month to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. She's a woman of taste so I let her choose with no input from myself! The rooms are stunning. I would have provided the room we were allocated to, but the lady who showed us to our room suggested a different room as we have a newborn son (admittedly we forgot to mention that on booking) and the bedding situation would simply work out better. I digress. Yes stunning room, I'm not one for aesthetics but it was kind of open, yet cosy, with an entirely private yet gigantic view over the Atlantic ocean and the rocks on the cliff below. Something I do care about is showers. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in my years and so would call myself a connoisseur. A gorgeous rain shower thing in an open wet room. Massive soft towels. Just rather plush. Food was incredible on the night we managed to get a table at the restaurant. Room service fast, polite, and accommodating. Far enough away from Newquay to feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to get some nappies. If you want something delivered there by UPS though, do not bother. Unrelated to this review but UPS just refuse to drive down what is just a normal ..... road. Anyway. Banging time. Thanks a lot!

I am writing to express our disappointment with the cream tea experience we had at your restaurant on Saturday 5th October. My Wife and I were looking forward to a relaxing time for a Birthday treat but unfortunately, the service and attention to detail left much to be desired. Our cream tea for two was served with only one cup and we were not provided with plates or knifes for scones. We had to keep asking for basic items such as these, along with sugar and serviettes, which should have been offered as standard. These repeated over sights significantly detracted from our experience, especially given the expectations for enjoying a Birthday treat. The staffs response was dismissive and unprofessional, making the experience even more unpleasant.

Despite ordering cream tea for two, we were only provided with one cup and were not given plates, knives, or sugar for our scones. We had to repeatedly ask for these basic items, which should have been included as standard. Unfortunately, when we requested these items, the staff’s response was dismissive and unprofessional, making the experience even more unpleasant. I would expect a much higher standard of service, particularly in how staff interact with customers. A very disappointing Birthday treat :( Gill.H

We visited Lewinnick Lodge on a Tuesday evening in August for a 20:30hrs sitting. We’ve eaten here before so we knew prices are not cheap but provided the quality is there then we will always try and find a window to return again. Without doubt the price does come attached to the location and if you time your sitting and are fortunate to get the weather on the day, be sure to take your Camera for fantastic Sunset pics. The meal for a family of 3 came to £152 + £18 tip (our choice) and was the most expensive meal we had on our 2 week break, but the food was delicious all round. The only one small criticism I could make is when first sitting and you get offered Water, be sure to express tap water if you do not want to get a £5 charge added to the bill. Tbf this was just as much our own fault given the Server did ask whether we preferred Sparkling or Still so this should have triggered that we were going to be charged, but we were lost in the views outside sitting next to the window to pick up on this and like I say it’s only a very minor thing, but something to take on board. Absolute delicious Sirloin Steak (rare my choice) which felt like it melted in my mouth. We’ve seen some comments where criticisms were directed towards the waiting times between dishes, but we didn’t feel that the service was short of being very good and the Restaurant was still busy at this time. Maybe we were just lucky to drop on one of the more better servers ! Look forward to coming again next year sometime

Been coming here for years mostly for an afternoon or early evening drink inside and outside seating. The location is lovely with a headland walk first then stopping for a drink. Family members have had breakfast here but it’s expensive and very hot or miss on who is cooking that day as to if you get crispier food or not. I Went with a large group for drinks we were all hungry and someone asked if we all wanted to eat here but the feedback from our group was no as some had a previous bad experience of not much food for your money and one friend expressing the cheese board had hardly any cheese on it and she would never order it again. The service and drinks have always been good in my experience and would go again and again just maybe not the food side of things mostly as it’s expensive fir what you get.

We have been to lewinnick on many occasions. We never had a bad meal and today I tried the beef ragu which was stunning the meat melted in the mouth and pasta was fresh. The chicken teriyaki starter I had as a side and was incredibly tender. The veg was a small portion and the brocoli was slightly over cooked but that is the only fault I could find. My wife had the tempura prawns which had a beautiful acidic yet sweet dressing on the slaw. The pork belly she had melted in the mouth and I tried some with the teriyaki sauce and it was incredible. I will definitely return on our next visit. For our cocktail, pint 2 x starter, 2 x mains and 1 side it came to 90 quid which we feel is more than reasonable for the food we had. The service was om point too didn't bother us with a checkback as i assume they could see we were enjoying our food but came over to ask if we wanted anymore drinks.

This is a stunning location, especially if you get a table looking out over the sea. A warm welcome was followed by such a table and we began to select our food and wine. The menue is not as extensive as you may expect from such a venue, but provides sufficient variety on the whole. We chose a bottle of prosecco, which was opened by the waitress as expected. I asked about the "cocktail of the month" which she seemed to know little about. I thought she left without pouring our wine to find out more, but she was not seen again. I started with the Prawns at £11, my wife had the Thai Spiced Fishcakes. I also ordered these as a main. Three prawns arrived for my starter, which were lovely but at nearly £4 a prawn they should be. We both agreed the fishcakes were completely bland, and lacking any real flavour. My wife had Cod as her main which she thought was exceptional. We asked for Irish Coffee to finnish, and then came the return of the wine waitress from earlier. She banged the tray down on the table spilling the cream into the saucers, and promptly took them away again. A different waitress then brought fresh but fairly cold coffees. This was our anniversary, and we were provided with a free scoup of ice cream on a plate with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce, a very nice touch. This is a lovely place to spend an evening and some of the food was very good. But some was also not of the quality you would expect for a venue like this and the prices that go with it.

A great location with a terrace with sweeping views up the Cornish north coast. Polite, friendly and helpful staff but sadly the overpriced food does not live up to expectations. My ‘full’ English breakfast had obviously been kept warm for some time as the scrambled eggs were congealed with a skin covering them. The bacon was hard and dried out. Also the photo from the proprietor is misleading as it shows two sausages, two field mushrooms and two halves of tomato whereas I only received half that amount. The hash browns were just overcooked crispy breadcrumbs with very little potato evident. See comparison photos. The so-called ‘Proper Cornish Breakfast’ is actually quite a small plate of food and I would imagine most Cornish folk would find this quite insulting. Shame.

The view from our table was beautiful and the restaurant interior was lovely. Unfortunately the food was not a great experience both our starters arrived warm on the outside and cold in the middle which I made the waiting on staff aware at the time this was such a shame as the food did taste really nice but just needed to be at least warm. From our starters being finished we had to wait 50 minutes for our 2 Sunday roast to be served the table next to us who arrived after and finished their starters after us received their Sunday roast 20 minutes before us it wasn’t until I notified the waitress we were still waiting on our main it was then brought out and again everything was cold the vegetables cold, Meat Cold the only thing that was warm was the roast potatoes. Again this is such a shame as the food itself was very tasteful. When we ask for the bill we again made the staff aware we had to wait 50 minutes for our main and both the starter and main was cold and we got back we will let the chef know. I would have preferred after our first mention about our starters being cold that they would ensure our main was hot but seems like they had forgotten our main and rushed it out cold again. Will not be returning for food.

We have been here a few times as the location is wonderful and the drinks served are of good quality. However we wanted to book a table for dinner one evening and asked at the bar for the availability for a table for 4. The barman went away to check availability and we waited and waited and waited and waited for him to come back to us which he didn’t. I had to go back to the bar and ask if he was going to let us know if they had availability which he informed us they didn't without offering a polite apology for not coming back to us. It seems that once the time reaches the late hour of 10.00pm the staff are far too busy shutting up shop and ushering customers out of the bar and restaurant instead of offering good customer service. My tip is to go into Newquay and try Graze tapas where you will get a warm welcome, good food and drinks and not waste your time waiting for the obnoxious barman to let you know if they have a table or not.

We booked a table in the restaurant, it wasn't very busy at all but the customer service was quite poor. The staff in the restaurant weren't very friendly and nobody came over at any point to check that everything was OK. The meals are expensive for what you get, and the burger was crozzled and broke into small pieces. When our table was finally cleared we gave feedback about the burger and the response we got was I'll tell the kitchen, no apology. If we come again it will be just for a drink.

Perfect place for a sunset supper, with the restaurant surrounded by the ocean on 2 sides. Went there tonight for a quick fish and chips. Very good indeed. Loved the, very chunky, chunky chips. Chloe looked after us splendidly, thankyou. She was everything u need a waitress to be and particularly jolly. Service was exemplary without being too intrusive. I look forward to having a more leisurely meal next time and doing the menu justice.

Revisted after 5 years, came with family, we all had a roast dinner, two of us had the vegan option and unfortunately it wasn’t great, the veg and potatoes were unseasoned and cold, was really disappointing. The menu price online was cheaper than the restaurant prices, over priced for the roast. The staff were lovely though very friendly and welcoming. Would like to come back but the roast would need to be changed in my opinion.

A great setting with friendly staff. Unfortunately the food lets it down. Over priced with stingy portions, my husband had the belly pork a small slice, 3 new potatoes and a little bit of veg for £21 and was still hungry after 2 courses. I had the seafood linguini [£22) which wasn't as described on the menu, swimming in tomato sauce. Haven't eaten there for while and don't think we will be eating there again.

My Wife and I have wanted to stay at Lewinnick for ages and we finally got round to booking a sea-view double aspect luxury room for two nights B&B. We arrived a couple of hours early and were met by the delightful Angela who told us our room was ready and she would take us there. My word, we were astonished! Our room was huge, with a beautiful modern bathroom with bath and shower. We actually had a triple-aspect with marvellous sea views. The room was totally immaculate and it was clear that Angela was very proud to be able to show us it. There is tea and coffee making facility and even binoculars provided! We had a meal in the restaurant on our first evening and, once again, the service was wonderful and the food was delicious: I had the pork belly and my Wife had the bean-burger and both were perfect( a real bean-burger made with veg!). There is a super breakfast menu. My Wife had the pancakes both days and I had a full Cornish one day and the avocado on toast the other: all scrumptious. We look forward to visiting again.

We was very pleasantly surprised with our visit here. The interior has been updated and is so much better than our last visit. The staff are very , very good at their jobs. Josh, Guy and Edith were outstanding. They all offered a warm welcome, attentive service and they were very knowledgeable on products. The food was outstanding, we loved it, home cooked food. The chicken liver parfait was the best I have ever had. To top it all off, the location and views are beautiful, just looking out to see. Added bonus, dog friendly.

This is our 2nd time staying at this beautiful boutique hotel. The staff are absolutely amazing and made me and my husband feel very welcome. We took our dog and the staff spoilt him. The doggy food hamper in the room was a nice touch. Would highly recommend and will certainly be back again

I think it’s well priced for the quality and location of the restaurant. I had the short rib which was fabulous and my friend had steak which was a big portion for the price! We had cocktails which were delicious & well presented!

We chose to have our last meal here after a week in Cornwall visiting family. There were 10 of us, the staff having made a late increase in numbers easy. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with plenty of space between tables and huge windows so everyone gets a great view to enjoy the sunset. There was a good selection of non alcoholic, spirits and wines to chose from. I had a black cherry gin with lemonade to accompany my chicken liver parfait which was melt-in-the-mouth delightful and was seriously the best I have ever had! I followed with a very smooth glass of Malbec to go with my slow cooked short rib - always a favourite of mine and this did not disappoint. Every plate of food they served us was great. The portions were good, it was all beautifully plated and absolutely delicious and as between the 10 of us we sampled pretty much everything, I am confident no dish will disappoint. The staff were all smart, efficient and attentive, and they made everything seem effortless. They all helped make our evening perfect and I'd like to thank Gina@Lewinnick and all her team for a great evening and a fabulous end to our holiday. P.S. Gina@Lewinnick - if by some miracle you're able to confirm the red that I had you would make my year!

Always visit with local friends when down from Yorkshire. Managed to pull in both lunch and dinner this week ( not on the same day lol) Food, views and cocktails as wonderful as ever but unfortunately we all thought that the service wasn’t as good as on our previous visits which is a shame as it’s usually spot on even when busy. Presuming new staff are being trained up? That being said, looking forward to coming back in November

My husband and I ordered the short rib with hassleback potatoes and even though it took a fair while to come out, it was absolutely lovely. The meat fell off the bone, and the jus and all the vegetables were delicious. Also ordered on our table was the steak and a burger, both also being well cooked. Dessert for me was the pannacotta, also ordered was sticky toffee pudding and a dark chocolate mousse, again all lovely. We would definitely visit again.

Sadly, in our opinion, the Basset Arms has gone downhill. The roast was not good, it took an age to get to us, the vegetables arrived a good 5 minutes after the main plates, the cauliflower/broccoli cheese was very crusty, the roast potatoes were like leather, the chicken portions were very small and the service was poor. It was very disappointing!

This local pub has recently had new management, and I can honestly say they have done wonders in the short time they have been there. Me and my family have just had Sunday dinner and the food was amazing, really good portions and a very varied menu. Chris, Bev, Pete and Bob are all incredibly friendly and welcoming and are a much appreciated addition to the village.
