My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend last month to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. She's a woman of taste so I let her choose with no input from myself! The rooms are stunning. I would have provided the room we were allocated to, but the lady who showed us to our room suggested a different room as we have a newborn son (admittedly we forgot to mention that on booking) and the bedding situation would simply work out better. I digress. Yes stunning room, I'm not one for aesthetics but it was kind of open, yet cosy, with an entirely private yet gigantic view over the Atlantic ocean and the rocks on the cliff below. Something I do care about is showers. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in my years and so would call myself a connoisseur. A gorgeous rain shower thing in an open wet room. Massive soft towels. Just rather plush. Food was incredible on the night we managed to get a table at the restaurant. Room service fast, polite, and accommodating. Far enough away from Newquay to feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to get some nappies. If you want something delivered there by UPS though, do not bother. Unrelated to this review but UPS just refuse to drive down what is just a normal ..... road. Anyway. Banging time. Thanks a lot!

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the cream tea service I received at your restaurant on Saturday 5th October 2024 In addition to several service-related issues, I was particularly disappointed by the poor attitude displayed by a female staff member. Despite ordering cream tea for two, we were only provided with one cup and were not given plates, knives, or sugar for our scones. We had to repeatedly ask for these basic items, which should have been included as standard. Unfortunately, when we requested these items, the staff’s response was dismissive and unprofessional, making the experience even more unpleasant. I would expect a much higher standard of service, particularly in how staff interact with customers. A very disappointing Birthday treat :( Gill.H

I am writing to express our disappointment with the cream tea experience we had at your restaurant on Saturday 5th October. My Wife and I were looking forward to a relaxing time for a Birthday treat but unfortunately, the service and attention to detail left much to be desired. Our cream tea for two was served with only one cup and we were not provided with plates or knifes for scones. We had to keep asking for basic items such as these, along with sugar and serviettes, which should have been offered as standard. These repeated over sights significantly detracted from our experience, especially given the expectations for enjoying a Birthday treat. The staffs response was dismissive and unprofessional, making the experience even more unpleasant.

Stunning location, great staff who looked after us all. We were celebrating a 50th (table of 16) food was lovely. Unfortunately the weather didn’t like us so we could not enjoy the full view or go out on the balcony which was a shame. We went back the next day for breakfast and they remembered us which is always a massive plus for me. Again the weather was rubbish :( we will be returning.

We visited Lewinnick Lodge on a Tuesday evening in August for a 20:30hrs sitting. We’ve eaten here before so we knew prices are not cheap but provided the quality is there then we will always try and find a window to return again. Without doubt the price does come attached to the location and if you time your sitting and are fortunate to get the weather on the day, be sure to take your Camera for fantastic Sunset pics. The meal for a family of 3 came to £152 + £18 tip (our choice) and was the most expensive meal we had on our 2 week break, but the food was delicious all round. The only one small criticism I could make is when first sitting and you get offered Water, be sure to express tap water if you do not want to get a £5 charge added to the bill. Tbf this was just as much our own fault given the Server did ask whether we preferred Sparkling or Still so this should have triggered that we were going to be charged, but we were lost in the views outside sitting next to the window to pick up on this and like I say it’s only a very minor thing, but something to take on board. Absolute delicious Sirloin Steak (rare my choice) which felt like it melted in my mouth. We’ve seen some comments where criticisms were directed towards the waiting times between dishes, but we didn’t feel that the service was short of being very good and the Restaurant was still busy at this time. Maybe we were just lucky to drop on one of the more better servers ! Look forward to coming again next year sometime

Been coming here for years mostly for an afternoon or early evening drink inside and outside seating. The location is lovely with a headland walk first then stopping for a drink. Family members have had breakfast here but it’s expensive and very hot or miss on who is cooking that day as to if you get crispier food or not. I Went with a large group for drinks we were all hungry and someone asked if we all wanted to eat here but the feedback from our group was no as some had a previous bad experience of not much food for your money and one friend expressing the cheese board had hardly any cheese on it and she would never order it again. The service and drinks have always been good in my experience and would go again and again just maybe not the food side of things mostly as it’s expensive fir what you get.

We have been to lewinnick on many occasions. We never had a bad meal and today I tried the beef ragu which was stunning the meat melted in the mouth and pasta was fresh. The chicken teriyaki starter I had as a side and was incredibly tender. The veg was a small portion and the brocoli was slightly over cooked but that is the only fault I could find. My wife had the tempura prawns which had a beautiful acidic yet sweet dressing on the slaw. The pork belly she had melted in the mouth and I tried some with the teriyaki sauce and it was incredible. I will definitely return on our next visit. For our cocktail, pint 2 x starter, 2 x mains and 1 side it came to 90 quid which we feel is more than reasonable for the food we had. The service was om point too didn't bother us with a checkback as i assume they could see we were enjoying our food but came over to ask if we wanted anymore drinks.

We had a really splendid meal across the full width of the menu. Excellent service (a special thank you to the smiling Emma) from staff who seemed to be enjoying the job, even during the busiest week of the year in Newquay, where all other restaurants were struggling. We had dinner on a Tuesday evening in August. Our perception was as follows: 1. The views and outlook on a sunny evening are world-class. 2. The service was impeccable. 3. The quality of the food was acceptable, but it probably could improve. One diner had duck leg with noodles, and the duck was dry and likely overcooked. 4. Overall, we would recommend but will not eat the duck again.

There was a slight error with our order, and without hesitation, the manager ( I'm sorry, I don't know your name but you was really lovely) and Tilly both came over and addressed the error, which we really appreciated. This is a stunning location, especially if you get a table looking out over the sea. A warm welcome was followed by such a table and we began to select our food and wine. The menue is not as extensive as you may expect from such a venue, but provides sufficient variety on the whole. We chose a bottle of prosecco, which was opened by the waitress as expected. I asked about the "cocktail of the month" which she seemed to know little about. I thought she left without pouring our wine to find out more, but she was not seen again. I started with the Prawns at £11, my wife had the Thai Spiced Fishcakes. I also ordered these as a main. Three prawns arrived for my starter, which were lovely but at nearly £4 a prawn they should be. We both agreed the fishcakes were completely bland, and lacking any real flavour. My wife had Cod as her main which she thought was exceptional. We asked for Irish Coffee to finnish, and then came the return of the wine waitress from earlier. She banged the tray down on the table spilling the cream into the saucers, and promptly took them away again. A different waitress then brought fresh but fairly cold coffees. This was our anniversary, and we were provided with a free scoup of ice cream on a plate with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce, a very nice touch. This is a lovely place to spend an evening and some of the food was very good. But some was also not of the quality you would expect for a venue like this and the prices that go with it.

A great location with a terrace with sweeping views up the Cornish north coast. Polite, friendly and helpful staff but sadly the overpriced food does not live up to expectations. My ‘full’ English breakfast had obviously been kept warm for some time as the scrambled eggs were congealed with a skin covering them. The bacon was hard and dried out. Also the photo from the proprietor is misleading as it shows two sausages, two field mushrooms and two halves of tomato whereas I only received half that amount. The hash browns were just overcooked crispy breadcrumbs with very little potato evident. See comparison photos. The so-called ‘Proper Cornish Breakfast’ is actually quite a small plate of food and I would imagine most Cornish folk would find this quite insulting. Shame.

Beautifully situated restaurant on Pentire Headlad. Seating outside where you can look across Fistral Bay. Reasonable food but we were denied a table by the window when asked which was taken about an hour later by people I assume staff knew. By the time they arrived it was dark outside and thet couldn’t enjoy the view anyway. This was just a bit annoying and spoilt another wise enjoyable evening.

The view from our table was beautiful and the restaurant interior was lovely. Unfortunately the food was not a great experience both our starters arrived warm on the outside and cold in the middle which I made the waiting on staff aware at the time this was such a shame as the food did taste really nice but just needed to be at least warm. From our starters being finished we had to wait 50 minutes for our 2 Sunday roast to be served the table next to us who arrived after and finished their starters after us received their Sunday roast 20 minutes before us it wasn’t until I notified the waitress we were still waiting on our main it was then brought out and again everything was cold the vegetables cold, Meat Cold the only thing that was warm was the roast potatoes. Again this is such a shame as the food itself was very tasteful. When we ask for the bill we again made the staff aware we had to wait 50 minutes for our main and both the starter and main was cold and we got back we will let the chef know. I would have preferred after our first mention about our starters being cold that they would ensure our main was hot but seems like they had forgotten our main and rushed it out cold again. Will not be returning for food.

We have been here a few times as the location is wonderful and the drinks served are of good quality. However we wanted to book a table for dinner one evening and asked at the bar for the availability for a table for 4. The barman went away to check availability and we waited and waited and waited and waited for him to come back to us which he didn’t. I had to go back to the bar and ask if he was going to let us know if they had availability which he informed us they didn't without offering a polite apology for not coming back to us. It seems that once the time reaches the late hour of 10.00pm the staff are far too busy shutting up shop and ushering customers out of the bar and restaurant instead of offering good customer service. My tip is to go into Newquay and try Graze tapas where you will get a warm welcome, good food and drinks and not waste your time waiting for the obnoxious barman to let you know if they have a table or not.

Always pay the Lewinick a visit when we come to Newquay. It was rather disappointing this year. We booked a table in the restaurant, it wasn't very busy at all but the customer service was quite poor. The staff in the restaurant weren't very friendly and nobody came over at any point to check that everything was OK. The meals are expensive for what you get, and the burger was crozzled and broke into small pieces. When our table was finally cleared we gave feedback about the burger and the response we got was I'll tell the kitchen, no apology. We chose to have our last meal here after a week in Cornwall visiting family. There were 10 of us, the staff having made a late increase in numbers easy. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with plenty of space between tables and huge windows so everyone gets a great view to enjoy the sunset. There was a good selection of non alcoholic, spirits and wines to chose from. I had a black cherry gin with lemonade to accompany my chicken liver parfait which was melt-in-the-mouth delightful and was seriously the best I have ever had! I followed with a very smooth glass of Malbec to go with my slow cooked short rib - always a favourite of mine and this did not disappoint. Every plate of food they served us was great. The portions were good, it was all beautifully plated and absolutely delicious and as between the 10 of us we sampled pretty much everything, I am confident no dish will disappoint. The staff were all smart, efficient and attentive, and they made everything seem effortless. They all helped make our evening perfect and I'd like to thank Gina@Lewinnick and all her team for a great evening and a fabulous end to our holiday. P.S. Another amazing stay at our favourite place...Lewinnick Lodge. Rooms are amazing and the views could not be better. All the staff are so friendly and nice to see the same faces each time we go.... a good sign of happy staff. Been eating here for years every time we come down to Cornwall, this has been our third time of staying and we will definitely be back towards the end of the year ( we avoid summer in Cornwall now... sadly ). 10 out 10 again lovely Lewinnick.

Beautiful views, lovely staff, excellent food and wonderful ale (they had St Austell Brewery's Proper Job which is my absolute favourite)

The view is great. Most staff are really good and nothing is too much trouble. The table we sat at had not been wiped, still had glass marks on it. No one came to the table to take a drinks order. So I placed one...

We have just returned from our second stay at the Lewinnick lodge and yet again it was exceptional in every way. Our room and the view were incredible, I could have sat there all day savouring the sea view, the regular surfacing of seals.the room is pure luxury in every way from ge beautiful bedding to the lovely smell of fragrance sticks. The beautiful walk in shower and bath with a sea view. Breakfast is fantastic but the crowning glory are the staff. Always so friendly, helpful and just lovely. We will be back to this little bit of heaven, the best place to celebrate something special, thankyou.

What can I say about this lodge. The location is wonderful, the interior decor is picturesque, the exterior is exquisite, it’s a place I would love to visit again. The breakfast overlooking the sea, the room by the sea, it’s romantic and relaxing. You realize how earth is beautiful and the only thing that matters is conserving her. The binoculars and the classical musical in the room is chef’s kiss. You get shampoo, conditioner and bubble bath with a scent of the sea, leaves you feeling like a little girl again, with no worries in the world. I got a bath tub and shower also overlooking the sea, so romantic. And the floor is heated, warm on the feet like it’s summer by the sea. If I visit again, it would definitely not be alone, I would need to utilize the view more efficiently, if you know what I mean. And I got 10% discount off on my next visit! Cons The TV is quite small, however the view from the sea is sufficient. If you’re solo traveler, you’re likely to feel alone unless you don’t mind. Extra Pros If you love to hike, there’s a peninsula just beyond the Lodge. It’s beautiful to see the sea and there you are, you’re standing in between. Nearby, there are; blue reef aquarium, sailors, Trenance riding stables, newquay zoo, and many more. Transportation wise, the bus is hourly, so a taxi or a private car is preferable for mobility as the public transport could be frustrating. All in all, The Lewinnick Lodge is a perfect place to naturally detox, relax and fall in love with nature and oneself.

We were very impressed with the quality of service and food especially as the restaurant was exceedingly busy due to poor weather and everyone having the same idea! We ordered 1 starter and enough bread was sent for 2 people. We were impressed at this...

Didn’t stay so can’t comment on the rooms. The food is delicious, plenty of choice for drinks and the view is out of this world.

We had 3 nights here to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. The views from the hotel are second to none, and we had booked the luxury double which had sweeping panoramic views through 3 large windows. The room was enormous with a very large walk...

We stayed at Lewinnick Lodge last week for a couple of nights. The room we were in (7) had amazing views and it was made better by stormy weather, watching the ocean and hearing the wind and rain batter the windows in our cosy comfortable room. The staff are very helpful and everyone we met and spoke to were nice, good, helpful and friendly people. The room itself was a good size and clean and very nice. We ordered room service one of the nights and both the desserts and cocktails were amazing. Disabled access is good as there is a lift in case you need it and charging points outside for electric vehicles. A very good place to stay and we recommend.

We had an amazing three night stay in one of the superior rooms. The views were stunning from the room. The room was beautiful with a huge bed and so comfortable. Lovely facilities too. The staff at the hotel and restaurant were lovely so friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Was always busy in the bar and restaurant in the afternoon evening but lovely atmosphere. Would recommend a stay here to anyone.

Possibly one of the nicest meals l've eaten in Cornwall! I had the short rib served with hassle back potatoes. The meat was cooked to perfection, so tender and plenty of it. I also had a Ginger kombucha which was delicious! they offered me to try it and they would switch it if I didn't like it which was nice. My friend had the fish cakes as a main which was a huge portion & had the dark chocolate moose for dessert which could've been shared between 2! Overall very good portions for the atmosphere & location of the restaurant. I often visit for breakfast but I will definitely be back for dinner again soon! Only scoring down one point due to the service being very slow. We felt like we had been forgotten as it took at least 20 minutes to get served and we had to go up in the end to pay as it was taking too long but other than that the staff are very friendly.

Very nice place to eat I'm sure the view would be lovely but tried at 6:30pm and was getting dark .food was good and tasted lovely, just the plate I had my steak on I was chasing it around just a minor observation. Nice service.

Thoroughly disappointed local. As with many others our experience was met with way below average service, very very long food wait times, bones in fish served to a two year old with no pre warning it may happen, (upon which we were told it’s normal) and no apologies. Definitely won’t be visiting again and if we had known the food standard score was 2 we wouldn’t have gone in the first place. Nice view but then so are the many restaurants on fistral beach with good service and correctly priced food.

Fantastic venue for lunch with friends. Great choice of light bites or full meals to devour whilst taking in the sea and Fistral Beach views. Relaxed atmosphere too. Well worth a visit.

Sadly, in our opinion, the Basset Arms has gone downhill. The roast was not good, it took an age to get to us, the vegetables arrived a good 5 minutes after the main plates, the cauliflower/broccoli cheese was very crusty, the roast potatoes were like leather, the chicken portions were very small and the service was poor. It was very disappointing!

Incredibly miserable barmaid. Quite rude to customers. Didnt eat anything as ‘kitchens closed’ was barked at us when she overheard us discussing lunch. Went down the road and had a much better experience in haveners!
