On arrival the sign stated, wait to be served. We waited around 5 mins, no one came so found a table. We both had the soup which was lovely. My husband had the gammon & eggs, again lovely food. I ordered the cheese & tuna hot baguette which wad a big, soggy mess. No baguette but a sour dough bap. I wasn't informed of this. They did give me another small roll, which was equally as awful. This should have been taken off the bill as the meal wasn't as described & we weren't informed of the change. Didn't like the attitude of the duty manager & the large holes in her ears were very offputting in a food environment. Sadly won't return.

Good choice on the menu of full meals or lighter plates. Mum was pleased with her fish and chips and my Tuna Melt hot baguette was delicious. Whilst staying in the area with family we visited the Leigh arms for an evening meal. Initially all went well, we were shown to a seat quickly and drinks and food ordered, which arrived with a reasonable wait and was pretty good. Things went down hill at this point, service seemed to stop, we were looking for desert and more drinks but sadly found it difficult to catch anyone’s attention and we weren’t approached at all for a further order. This is probably only a minor complaint but do feel that in the interest of the business maybe some training for the young staff on how to make another easy sale would not go a miss as we were almost ready to give up and pay and leave without a further purchase.

We have been regulars at the Leigh Arms for many years, visiting sometimes in the evenings, and also at lunchtimes. But then the pandemic struck. This is only the second occasion we have been for lunch in the last fortnight, and, the food was as usual excellent, so was the service. They are very well organised, a lot of thought has gone into the social distancing aspect, and the staff are friendly and very willing to point out how they will serve you. If the weather is suitable, the outside seating area is very good, but dining is available inside too. Well done Leigh Arms, I can thoroughly recommend it

Excellent restaurant, treated by my aunty and uncle who lucky for them live not far from here. It is one of their favourites and I can see why. Food is all fresh and home made, good value, the meat in the pies just so much of and melts in your mouth, portions are generous and wine is first notch, staff very caring and attentive to needs and wants. Would return without hesitation. Lovely location too with the canal nearby. Perfect for a summer evening.

What a great pub! Excellent COVID system We were greeted at the door and was asked to either track and trace using the app or give our details. We then picked our table outside and we had waitress’s/waiter service. Beer and gin was perfect! The food was outstanding. I personally thought the steak pie was amazing. It was not tasteless- (as the previous review mentioned). The staff worked very hard to make sure things was running smoothly. The tall man just not seem to stop!!! We were so excited to return to our favourite place to eat a pub lunch. All covid rules were followed, very pleasant staff, an excellent pint of Unicorn beer, BUT, the food was not good at all! Very disappointing. The steak and ale pie was disgusting. It was tasteless, lacking any gravy, the meat consistency was like slop. Totally inedible. We did tell the waitress, and she could see that I had left most of it. The steak sandwich was alright but had a lot of fat on it. What was supposed to be a celebration of being able to eat out again was very disappointing. It will be some time before we return

Visited last week with my wife and we were seated next to a noisy banging door. When we asked if anything could be done about it we were told bu our waitress in an unintrested and uncaring manner No.Unable to tolerate the constant noise we moved tables but were then harassed by the waitress, we had complained to who kept staring at us and singing near us.(she should have known that singing is not allowed due to the spread of Covid).Eventually we felt we had no choice but to leave Wont be going back.

Since things have re opened we`ve been eating out a lot, mainly in pubs and I`ve got to say that the Leigh Arms has got to be one of the safest and well organised pubs that we`ve been in.I found it impossible to make a telephone booking ( which I later found out was due to the fact that they are so busy ! ) so I emailed instead, which was answered within 30 mins.Upon arrival, you have to wait at a small reception area, where your details are checked for check and trace and you are then shown to your table. Hand sanitiser everywhere and the one way system in the pub is clearly marked, plus no orders at all taken at the bar. ( this was before the new rules came in )The pub and beer garden was heaving, but the organisation and speed at which the staff were taking orders was very impressive. Plus despite the staff being rushed off their feet, they all remained polite and friendly, all under the watchful eye of a lady who assumed was the manager. We had a mix of Sunday lunches ( excellent value ) and one of party had the mixed bean veggie stew ( he`s a veggie ) . All of the food arrived piping hot and was delicious. All in all we had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Leigh Arms. We`ve been quite a few times in the past and despite all the restrictions and the difficulties that they bring for the staff, this was without doubt our most enjoyable.A big thanks from everyone at this end for making our lunch so enjoyable.

We visited the leigh Arms last Friday evening and was not impressed as first they had lost the booking, second did not ask us to sign the form when we paid the bill we told the waiter we hadn't signed the book eventually we did and thirdly to my horror non of the staff had face masks on or face shields. I asked one of the waiters and he said they didn't have to wear them, this to me is not good enough as they are in contact with the public and who knows who's got the coroavirus or carrying it they are spreading germs to the customers will not be returning.

We've been to the Leigh Arms several times before and always had excellent food from great staff. This was our first family meal out since lockdown was eased but other reviewers have mentioned how well they're managing the Covid-19 arrangements so no point in going over those again. We had three adult's and two children's meals: steak and ale pies and steak and stilton pie plus baked potato and fish and chips respectively. The pies were outstanding with the steak cooked to perfection and good selection of vegetables. The fish was cooked to order and had lovely crisp batter. There's not much you can get wrong with a baked potato but it was also freshly done and all portions were on the generous side. We had a range of desserts all of which were very good, with the triple choc cheesecake of the day a particular favourite. Great food and great staff here. Very highly recommended

We've visited Leigh arms many times with our walking groups or friends but will think twice now after the bad attitude of 1 staff member today. 14 of us visited and bought drinks, 1 bar staff member was particularly and consistently rude to several of our members but we didn't realise till we sat down that we'd all had same disgruntled attitude as if it was inconvient that customers had wanted to be served. We wanted to stay and eat lunch as we've visited before and hoped we'd have a different waitress- the pub was very busy but it's worth a wait usually. However we where met with disdain that we didn't know our table number and wanted to eat outside, a lot of huffing & puffing and told 45minute wait for food. To be fair her attitude sealed the deal and you probably lost a couple of hundred quid takings today as we chose to dine elsewhere.Charging £2.40 for an instant decaf coffee in a tiny cup whilst sneering at customers is also not a good look. With 1000 members in our group - mostly local to Cheshire its not a good idea to be rude to customers as we will note it and as a pub that supplies local walking maps it's surprising, maybe it wasn't just our group but everyone got served badly that day- even her colleagues looked embarrassed. Its a shame when people choose a job that doesn't suit their skills or personality or let other things affect their professionalism.

I thought I’d visit with my kids. We have allergies & I asked if they could check if their mayo had dairy in. First they assumed that included egg! That error aside I asked if I could have a quick chat with the chef to clarify. The amount of time the chef took to tell the staff member he was too busy, I could have spoken to him & resolved my query, but I was told “he was too busy”. I figured if he’s too busy to discuss my allergies (when it wasn’t that busy) they most likely wouldn’t put too much care in ensuring it was actually safe to eat. So we left, not worth the risk & if they don’t have time for paying customers then I don’t have time to eat there. Big thumbs down having a gluten free menu isn’t really enough.

The location of this pub could not be better, literally on the canal side close to the bridge and watchmans house. It is a lovely place to sit outside of on a summers day. They really have done a lovely job of refurbing the interior which opens out onto the garden area. There is a well thought out playground for the kids to be entertained. A great local pub, good food and highly rated by every local we spoke to. Good gluten free meal options and a great playground for children. Loved the family pets being allowed into the pub.

i,d not been here for a very long time and boy how it,s changed. very smart inside and a lovely seated area outside very close to the river. although we didn,t order any food what we saw looked very good. try to squeeze in a night when there,s a live band on and get there early because it gets very busy, alternatively you can reserve a table.

Huge portions, wonderful food! Went twice while in the area on holiday and I was really impressed with the food. The decor is beautiful and the outside gardens are lovely. A great place to chill out.

Went on a Sunday, lovely pub but the food was just awful. They couldn’t even get the chips right. Maybe we got them on a bad day but we won’t be going back.

My wife, son and I visited the Leigh Arms for dinner on 6th July. We have driven past the pub on dozens of occasions, and wanted to give it a try. We decided to skip starters, and went straight to mains, with a view to having puddings. Having been served our mains, it was obvious that we were unlikely to be having another course. My steak and Stilton pie was enormous. As it covered the whole of the plate, the chips had to be served on a separate dish. My son had 2 huge chicken kebabs, and my wife had a very sizeable chicken balti. All the food was hot and tasty, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. With reasonable prices, and an excellent selection of beer, a return visit to the Leigh Arms is definitely on the cards.

I tried the steak and Stilton pie my first time, and it was the best pie I have ever had! When I went back I got the roast dinner, which was good, but the pies are really where its at with this place! The service can be slow at times, but the food is worth it, prices seem reasonable too. The kitchen closes at 5pm on a Sunday, which has been the reason my family and I have had to go elsewhere when we are planning on eating a bit later in the day.

We used the venue as a start and finish location for a walk followed by lunch for 17 people. The staff were extremely helpful and made us very welcome after a 2 hour walk in the rain. The pub is modern, clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, plenty of choice, good sized portions, really tasty and value for money.

The staff were lovely, and the venue is beautiful... Unfortunately the scampi and chips looked, and tasted, like they were from a frozen ready meal.

This place was recommended by a friend of relatives. So today we visited the Leigh Arms. What a lovely welcome, friendly and clean. Service was fantastic and the food was superb. So much choice found it hard to decide. Good value for money. Staff very helpful and nothing too much trouble. Very busy but very organised, didn't have to wait long at all. We then walked to the Dutton locks.

We were here with a gathering of friends and a delightful time. Modernism decor. Very good service. The pate starter was highlight - great taste, even better presentation. Duck pancakes very good as well. Both good value too. The curry was not to our liking, not enough spice. But overall a good place.

I had supper at the Leigh Arms this evening - lady who took the food order was bordering on rude, this may have been because it was very busy. Food was nice quality and good portions - what I got was not quite what was on menu.

We called without reservation not knowing what food to expect. We were lucky to get a table as it filled up quickly shortly after arriving. We ordered Sunday Roast and it was gorgeous ! Cooked to perfection and very nicely presented. Only £8.50 too what a bargain for restaurant quality food.one niggle-no greens on the plate. That is a personal preference and not a complaint as there was plenty of veg. Cauliflower,Carrot and turnip mash, yorkshire pudding 2 huge slices of delicious beef and roasties We shall be visiting again-soon .Highly recommend.

Called here with a friend as had always had a good meal but today was awful. I had a type of chicken stir fry with rice and prawn crackers of the specials board and my friend had pork loin both specials. Well the pork was pink (pork should never be pink!) And my chicken tasted as if it had been pinged but worst was the prawn crackers, dripping in oil, oil actually pooled in every cracker totally inedible. Never got a check back to see if all ok and when complained she said she'd mention it to the chef, never to be seen again. Only ever been in the evening which has always been nice but this lunch was awful.

Despite not booking for Easter Monday the staff still found us a table even though they were extremely busy. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Now the food !!!!!! A wide choice and five of us all found something different. Pie for me - so much meat and soooo good in fact I have never been beaten with size but had to admit I was beaten mind you the family finished it!!!!

We stopped for a light lunch - one member ordered prawns on brown bloomer - it was ordinary brown bread - disappointing. Two members of our party ordered grilled Halloumi on ciabatta - the first one arrived and was barely warm so it was returned to be grilled. The second one arrived and again only warm so that also was returned to be grilled. Why advertise as grilled if it isn't. Very pleasant sat outside but the food only average.

Visited this wetherspoons yesterday morning whilst visiting Chester, we ordered our food which took a little while to come, I started eating my eggs benidict and it wasn't very hot.. I told a staff member and he took the food away and after about 10 mins with me asking again where my food was, he then got someone to bring the food back.. They had put it into a microwave and blisted the food...not giving me a fresh portion... I'm afraid this place is awful, and won't be visiting again...
