Disappointed with today's carvery as plates not hot therefore food didn't stay hot. No Yorkshire puddings ready. The waiting time was around 8-10 mins by which time food would have been colder. Table service non existent and refused service at the bar when tried to pay for one. Bar staff and waiting staff cannot be faulted for the lack of flexibility by the pub. They were great. To top it all, legal tender offered 50 pound note and refused. I am one of a number of guests with the same complaint.

The eats were excellent as usual but the roast potatoes and cauliflower were undercooked and hard. The carrots were overcooked and dry. I have visited several times and been happy to recommend to friends, but am a bit embarrassed now and will put judgment on hold until I try again in a few weeks time.

Visited as we were passing and thought it’d be quick as it’s carvery. Slow to seat us even though place was half empty. Had my son 11 years who ate aswell. I asked if we just went up and the guy said we did. My son had meat Yorkshire and roast potatoes. He didn’t eat a full roast as he’s fussy. I wasn’t asked about different plates they just served us and presented us with 2 adult charges at the end. I said he’d not had enough to be classed as an adult nor was he over 12. Seemed like a manager on the till who didn’t seem to care - said he’s had an adult size plate so that’s what we have to pay. Went through what he’d eaten and I told him to ask the chef but again zero interest in helping. Wouldn’t return especially with the lack of customer service skills. Food was ok, chef was polite.

When we arrived at the front desk a member of staff greeted us and took us to our table, took our order and off we went to the carvery. After a short wait a scruffy server arrived and to be totally honest he looked and sounded like he really couldn’t be bothered. The Yorkshire puddings were flat and sad and the meat and vegetables looked like they had been sat under the lights all day. Dried up and hard. When we finished eating what was edible we waited and waited for somebody to come over. Believe it or not we were going to try a dessert but nobody came after 15mins so we made our way to the bar to pay. Even then the member of staff there looked like she didn’t want to be there and the big member of staff with the curly beard was just miserable and disinterested. No this is al a great shame because we’ve always enjoyed visiting the Leigh Arms previously. Has there been a staff changeover because this isn’t the Leigh Arms we know

Super easy to make the reservation and receive a confirmation. Great service, warmly welcomed and shown to our table with an introduction to our server. A warm and friendly atmosphere. with a very prompt drinks service. The food was tasty with generous portions. We think the service level has improved since our last visit before lockdown, well done! I came here this week for breakfast and dinner. The service was good and infact much better than my nice Hotel . The food was good as normal, but I found the choice on the carvery and breakfast less than before. One would think that restaurants would make an effort after being closed for so long. Pre Covid we had some lovely meals here but sadly no more. Not sure if this is Toby Carvery usual standard but won't be returning to find out. We had the carvery, big mistake. My gammon was delicious but badly let down by the vegetables. Roast potatoes dry and hard, carrots, beans cold. Cauliflower cheese indescribable but gravy was ok. Husbands beef was great, veg same as mine. Grandson had turkey , which he enjoyed. Overall all meals cold and disappointing. Meat portions very small for the money. Some staff better than others, guy behind bar was great. Young lady behind carvery is clueless. Given circumstances you would expect toilets to be very clean, well I can only say they were disgusting. After I took my grandson, who is only 5 and couldn't wait, I went back to our table and told my husband not to go. The ladies was shockingly bad. To top it all grandsons ice cream took over 20 minutes and we had to make 2 requests. We understand that restaurants have suffered over last 15 months and try to support those locally, but no excuse for this standard.

We have missed our trips to Toby, on our first visit after restrictions had been lifted the service and food was excellent, so we thought we would go back this week before my husband starts treatment for cancer, The distancing was good as last time the staff were friendly as usual but the food was poor, the usual chef wasn't serving it was a young lady who I am afraid was not good, my husband had a child's portion fortunately I don't have a big appetite but she didn't stir the gravy so I ended up with the skin on my meal. Fortunately we won't be going back now for sometime due to my husband treatment.

Booking system is a shambles. Basically everybody turns up at the same time causing huge queues. Took the wife half an hour to get served. I didn’t want to wait that long so didn’t eat. Staff are friendly but insist on talking to anybody that will listen about their ‘Covid experience’. Would be nice to go out to escape this. If you enjoy standing in line for unnecessarily long periods of time or going hungry while hearing about somebody’s uncle’s Covid scare this is the ‘restaurant’ for you.

On arrival kept waiting at the door in the rain fo 15 minutes while whoever dealt with someone who hadn’t booked a table . When we got in we were led to a table and given a form to fill in of what we wanted off the carvery . I chose the beef and the wife chose gammon both chose roast potatoes cauliflower cheese and green beans .. I had a Pepsi max and my good lady had a latte . The food eventually arrived . It can only be described as a huge pile of mush on a plate with meat . My beef was ok however my wife’s gammon had changed species and was no longer pig but turkey . The cauliflower cheese was total over cooked tasteless mush , green beets were also overcooked . Yorkshire puddings were rock hard . Looking at it all on the plate it was probably the most unappetising meal I have ever had put in front of me in my whole life . I have to add at this point that when we ordered our drinks we were told that the Pepsi max came with unlimited free refills . At the end when we got our bill we had a voucher giving us 50% off main meals therefore we should have been charged with 1 carvery , 1 latte and 1 Pepsi max . The girl came back with the bill and it wasn’t right . When I asked why it was so high she tried to fob me of with the fact that I had had 3 Pepsi max and a latte . So I told her we got 1 carvery free ,only latte and 1 Pepsi max . She then tried to say that I had also had 2 more Pepsi max which was why the bill was so hi and she insisted refills were not free . I suggested she go and get someone who knew what they were doing . A young fella came over and scanned our voucher and came back with the correct bill . I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy . The service is unattentive / rubbish , the food is overpriced very badly cooked mush and they can’t make gravy . At the end of all the dissatisfaction they then try to rip you off for roughly the cost of the voucher that they have sent you . The chefs need training how to cook , the waiting staff need training on how to deal with customers / how to wait on . The waiting staff also need to know the offers etc regarding food and drink offers / discounts . After all that I feel that I have wasted both good money and time on bad food ,bad latte and bad service .

I am not one to write critiquing reviews (Or any reviews for that matter) however my experience here was awful and must be known to anyone thinking of coming to dine! Ordered carvery using the paper sheets and received the wrong things? How is that possible when it’s on a sheet in front of you- I don’t know. That aside, the quality of the food was atrocious. Food was lukewarm at best and can be best described as ‘slop’. Meat AND Vegetables were like rubber!! Prison food is what my friend called it but that would be an insult to prisons! No one was able to finish even half of their plates - it was awful.I honestly couldn’t believe it as we’ve been to many Toby Carverys in our time but will definitely not be returning to this branch. Such a shame as puts a bad name on the rest of them! If it was my first time at a Toby I wouldn’t ever return to the Carvery chain again! Staff also not attentive and seen chatting when their service was needed - not just our table but those around us too grew very frustrated with the poor level of service received. Think twice before coming here for food!

We enjoyed a visit to the Legh Arms today. Booked with ease on the website, and arrived at the pub. Social distancing measures were clear and being adhered to, with the young waiter explaining the process on arrival. Our carvery was beautiful, plentiful portions and everything cooked to our liking. The staff were all friendly and courteous throughout our visit and we had a lovely, chilled out couple of hours. Although we took a 40 minute drive to get here we will be returning soon!

Yet another weekend soon swung round! The older I get, the faster time seems to evaporate. I’m always glad when the next day comes around – it means I’m still here, I just wish they would come around a little slower! My friend of the non-meat eating variety and I were having a later start on this particular Saturday, so as the weather was still pretty miserable, we decided we would go out for a bit of a drive in the car, and get something to eat out of Town. A long standing favourite of ours is the Legh Arms, or as we more affectionately call it, the Toby’s. Yes, in case you hadn’t guessed already, the Legh Arms, located at London Road, Adlington, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK10 4NA, is part of the Toby Carvery chain of venues, who like to refer to themselves as “The Home of the Roast”. They usually open long hours, and serve food all day. You can get everything from all you can eat breakfasts, through to full on roast dinners. They have separate kids menus, vegan / vegetarian menus, daytime food menus, dessert menus, and even a cake-it-away menu – that’s the one with the cake to take away on it! We both love Toby’s for different reasons – I personally love the fact that I can sample four different meats, and pile my plate disgustingly high with vegetables, whilst the vegetarian one loves the fact that you can actually get the perfect vegetarian meal. A plate full of………………………….. vegetables! Nothing with a fancy name, nothing laced with something you don’t like, just to try and make it seem more appetising, just plain, good, old fashioned vegetables, and as many of them as you like. This particular branch is on the way to Macclesfield, so it’s about a 45 minute drive from Manchester, out through Stockport. It tends to be a rather steady drive, due to the volume of traffic, and the annoyingly large number of speed cameras dotted along the way. It does make a change though to take a bit of a road trip, and we have a different journey back that takes us past a few good pubs that we like to call into. After an uneventful journey, we arrived at the Legh Arms at about 6-15pm, and found a pretty busy car park. It wasn’t anywhere near full, but it looked like there were one or two people in there. We entered through what is in effect the back door, via the outside seating area, and made our way to the reception desk, where as always, we asked for a table for two and confirmed the inevitable – that we did not in fact have a booking! An obligatory sigh, a glance to the computer screen, and a cursory glance around was enough to indicate to our waiter that he could find us a table. He managed to squeeze us in, on one of the twenty or more empty tables. Although, as I said, the car park was busy, the Legh Arms is such a big venue; it would take a bit of filling. There were enough people in for an atmosphere, but not enough to leave us stranded with nowhere to eat. Our waiter pledged to return in a couple of minutes to take our order, and was nothing but true to his word. We already knew what we fancied, so we were able to dispense with the normal rigmarole of menu searching and decision making. We ordered two bottomless Diet Cokes – you help yourself to both drink and ice from the nearby dispenser, one “normal” carvery meal, and one vegetarian carvery meal. Another waiter who recognised us from previous visits delivered us two empty glasses for our drinks, and informed us that we were welcome to go and get our food as and when it suited us. We were hungry, so we didn’t need to be told twice. I remained back at the table whilst vegetables were piled on a certain person’s plate, and then it was my turn to go and queue up and see how much I could fit on my plate. I started off with a Yorkshire Pudding, to which I added a “bit of each” meat. This consisted of gammon, beef, turkey, and pork. You don’t get lashings of meat, but you certainly get a reasonable portion, and I do believe that if you want to you can “Go King Size” for an extra £1-99, where you get an extra Yorkshire Pudding, more meat, and a couple of chipolatas. I like my food but have so far avoided going King Size – it just isn’t ladylike. Next, I then proceeded along the vegetable dishes adding roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, dauphinoise potatoes, green beans, carrots, cabbage, and cauliflower cheese to my plate. There were also peas, but I daren’t add any more to my plate for fear of spillage. There are also various sauces, gravies, and other sundry additives, but I am not a “saucy” kind of girl, as I’m sure you are aware! The menu does make it clear that you are welcome to return for more vegetables, but, I so far, have never managed it. I negotiated my way slowly back to the table, taking great care not to lose any of my dinner on the way and once back there, I started the major task of attempting to empty my plate. I must add here that the task was only major due to the volume of food, not in any way due to the food being difficult to digest. We continued to converse a little, but our main focus was at this point food. It didn’t take over long before we were both lounging back in our seats staring in disbelief at empty, white plates. I have to say I am in full admiration of the Chefs who work in these places. They might not be churning “Signature Dishes” out, or drizzling fancy sauces across equally fancily named recipes, but they manage to keep lots of different meats and vegetables at the correct temperature, without drying anything out. They also always have a spare joint of meat, or spare turkey hovering in the background as and when they are needed. It must be very difficult estimating when you will run out of something, due to the random way people eat. I have noted on many an occasion that everyone chooses differently. I am an “all in” type of Girl, whilst other people pick and choose between the various items on offer. It also amazes me how they can slice through meat onto a metal tray, but their knives always seem to remain sharp. I guess that’s why they are Chefs, and I’m not.We could have had a dessert, but we had both had sufficient, and we are still both watching the calories, so we instead, helped ourselves to another couple of drinks and continued chatting and watching. We were in no rush, and the sight of the rain hammering against the windows didn’t help encourage us to get up and go. To briefly summarise, you need to get into perspective what a Toby’s is and what it claims to deliver. You are not going out for a “fine dining” experience. The venues are similarly decorated and laid out, and are pubs that serve food rather than Restaurants. If you want Silver Service and small portions of unrecognisable food with fancy names, then Toby is not for you. If you want a run out somewhere, a few drinks, and some good honest food, then give it a try. They are definitely suitable for family trips out with the kids. We did in fact stop for another couple of drinks, before we finally got up, visited the ladies facilities (which were basic, but clean and tidy), paid our bill, and tottered across the car park to the car.We then headed back across to Handforth where we had several drinks in The Bulls Head, before moving on down the road to The Griffin at Heald Green where we had a few more. By the time we had been thrown out of there, it was too late to be bothered going back into Town to try and find a parking space and dodge the rain between pubs, so we quietly made our way back into Manchester, I dropped the well fed vegetarian off, and then made my way out to the Motorway and back home. All in all a good night.I will now, as always, ask and then answer the two all important questions about the Legh Arms:Value for Money? The total bill for the two meals and six diet cokes was £22-28. Yes, that is correct, £22-28. That was for both meals, not each. I don’t think I need to say anymore? If you don’t consider that to be good value, then there is no hope!Go Again? As indicated, I have been to this particular Toby’s on many occasions and have also visited other venues in other areas from the same chain. I have never failed to enjoy the food and overall experience, and will certainly be going again.

I am regular to the Legh Arms and generally the food is quite good! However we went on Monday late afternoon after a long drive home from London and it tasted like Sunday’s leftovers! The stuffing was like rock it was so hard and clearly not fresh and the mash potato was so lumpy it was inedible. Not once did anyone ask us how the food was which makes me think they knew it was far below par as usually they ask soon as you start eating. Totally unacceptable and would strongly advise if you like fresh food do not come here on a Monday.

The Assistant Manager looked at me and angrily said he was dealing with a problem and he was going to carry on dealing with it and we must wait until he had finished. Unbelievable, and when I complained the Manager to say this man was volatile, her reply was that this man was a great asset to the company in the four years that he has worked there.I have been to this restaurant many many times for many years as it is convenient to where I live, but never again, the food isn’t that great and there are many Toby restaurants I can visit.

Always rely on the food and service in this Toby carvery. They have lamb on the meat counter now, which is our favourite. We had a guest from US with us once who was confused by the buffet style approach and tried to go back for more. We had a lunch provided after a memorial service. It was very bad food. Small greasy chicken wings with no meat on them, over cooked garlic bread dry and tasteless, potatoes swimming in fat, small pork pies which were all pastry and unimaginative hardly filled sandwiches on cheap bread. The widow had very generously offered lunch for everyone, but surely the management have some pride and imagination so as not to put such rubbish out. there was a GREAT DEAL left over, surely this gave them some hint that improvement was essential?

During the time that TobyCarvery have been at the Legh Arms my wife and I have been lunchtime visitors many times and have NEVER been disappointed with the food or the service . We have always received the most pleasant welcome from all staff we meet and have come to know . Our usual meal is the carvery , regular for my wife and large for me , nicely prepared & served food on hot plates , in a clean and friendly atmosphere , we could not ask for more ! , thanks gang , keep up the good work , Sean Mc G . xx

Very busy at 9am this Sunday morning and it made me wonder where everyone comes from as this Carvery is not attached to a Premier inn and a couple of miles out in the country. So very surprised by the queue for tables when we left. Breakfast was all you can eat and the bacon was the star of the show. Rock hard cold fried eggs but everything else was nice, including the potato hash. Breakfast gravy was a bit strange but it must be a Cheshire delicacy. Two breakfasts with unlimited coffee and one orange juice for around £15. Staff were rushing around... but helpful.

We've come here twice now and on both occasions we've found the staff to be abrupt and even sarcastic. They shut the bar 5 minutes early and when this was pointed out there was a blunt, sarcastic reply from the staff. We gave it a second chance, there were no chicken wings and no apology for this, when we asked which one was the food receipt the staff, again, sarcastically replied "the one with food on it". We have a sense of humour, but there were no jokes here. On a brighter note the carvery is nice.

I don’t normally review a Toby Carvery but this one stands out from the rest. The service was friendly and very professional. The food was beautifully cooked and the serving plentiful. We met out son there and got delayed but the table was kept for us. The table layout gives plenty of room around the tables and the majority are on one level. What started as a convenient place to meet turned into a very enjoyable dinning experience. We will be going back now very much out of choice.

Somewhat disappointing. Waited 5 minutes for the chef to appear. Turkey was nice and tender, but the veg, potatoes etc was very bland and tasteless.

Two of us were staying at a Travelodge for one night and ate here as it was close by. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful member of staff and quickly seated and served with our drinks. The carvery was of a good standard and the meat was very tasty, the usual selection of vegetables was available. The restaurant was quite busy and fellow diners appeared to clear their plates indicating they, like us, were happy with our meals. We would be happy to eat here if we stayed in the area again.

Came here with my boyfriend and family. We was not at all impressed with the food and most of all the customer service! there was no one at the carvery counter for a good 5 minutes and then when someone came he cut my boyfriend some beef and all it was was fat! I couldn’t believe my eyes that he served us that! When my boyfriend asked him nicely if he could please cut him so more off. The man turned around and said “well it’s all fatty” and went on the snatching the plate off my boyfriend and started cutting all the fat off aggressively! He has a bad attitude I am appalled at this behaviour. I will not be returning.

Booked a large table for a family birthday celebration over Sunday lunch. I had asked for chilled prosecco on arrival, to toast the two birthdays. This was not ready and the duty manager was clearly rattled at being reminded. She brought the bottle but no glasses and then decided our 20 year old daughter 'did not look old enough' and demanded ID. Our daughter had her University photo ID, clearly proving she is over 18, but this was deemed not good enough and she was refused a glass.

Received an e mail from Toby telling us that we were about to miss out on an offer of 40% off main meals. Seemed like a good deal so decided to go for the Carvery later that day (a Sunday) and take our 87 year old mother. Clicked the “book table” in the e mail and chose the time and received a confirmatory e mail by return. Arrived on time and was seated. Ordered drinks and was asked if we had a voucher. Informed waitress that we had been sent voucher for 40% offer. Told that offer was not available as it was a Sunday. Nothing in e mail to say that it did not apply on Sundays. We said that we had received this e mail on that morning and had decided to come for the meal because of it and actually used the link in the e mail to book the table. They refused to honour it saying it was a mistake by head office. As we had travelled especially bringing our mother who is registered disabled we reluctantly stayed but it spoiled the enjoyment with the hassle and feeling cheated.

My friends Rachel, Nick and I went here for Breakfast on Wednesday 2 January 2019 as a treat. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was plenty of choices on the breakfast menu including Bacon, Sausage, Eggs (fried and scrambled), mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and there was bread which could be toasted with butter/margarine and jam or marmalade. We also paid an extra amount (£2.09) for tea and coffee refills. The Breakfast was very reasonably priced and came to just under £7 which included Coffee or Tea. I would like to commend Craig (I think he was duty manager) and the chef for their excellent services. We had been here on 23 December so found it easier this time around.

She refused to honour it until I explained that drinks had already arrived and I had travelled to the to the restaurant under a false inducement and threatened to take legal advice. She reluctantly agreed to honour the 40% reduction. The lady on the next table told me that the manager had earlier point blank refused to honour the deal for them and she intended to take the matter up with Toby.

I visited this Toby Carvery for the first time on Sunday 23rd December 2018 and decided to go for one of their Sunday lunches, which I did. It's actually situated within the Legh Arms public house and we accidently went sailing past but having got to the a big roundabout at the end of the road, we called them and they explained exactly where they were so we turned round following their route and found it easily. It wasn't mentioned on the website that it was inside this pub which might have been useful to know but the food was delicious and very reasonably priced., There is now a choice of roasts on a Sunday; lamb, turkey, pork, gammon or beef. We started with 6 delicious pigs in blankets before I chose turkey and pork, complete with crackling. Mmmmm. Vegetables were tasty, hot and delicious too - including macaroni and cauliiflower cheeses, mash and roast potatoes and some home made dishes, for which you were able to go up and have seconds or even thirds, but despite a big appetite, one trip was sufficient for me. Also the pot of tea was delicious and at £33.05 for 2 of us for everything, we thought it was excellent value. I can recommend this to anyone thoroughly and without question!

Lovely staff especially the chefs carving the meats-always willing to chat and good portions of meat given as part of the carvery .Vegetables were varied and hot-Good to be able to go back and help yourself to more which meant there was no need to pile your plates too high!

The carvery was great, lots of food but the only disappointment was the "giant unicorn cake" this was poor, it was a tiny bit of cake with icing just thrown on nothing like the description and you could tell it just sat in the fridge all day.

We stopes in here for lunch on way back from Macclesfield - it seemed to be very popular for the carvery at £7.95 but we opted for a sandwich, pleasant service and a quirky addition to the sandwiches was a bowl of gravy and a Yorkshire pudding - i suppose it is different to the usual chips or salad that would normally accompany a lunchtime sandwich - not to everybodys taste especially if you order a prawn sandwich!!

We went here for breakfast on my grandaughters birthday and it was sooo nice. The food was cooked perfectly and tasted really nice. Its all you can eat so you will probably want to have seconds. The only negative was that at 5 to 11 they took the hot drinks away which is a bit naughty because they were still serving the food.

Just a quick couldn't be bothered cooking meal. Heard good reports about the carvery so gave it a try. Not impressed. Meat was lovely, I had beef & turkey, a little stingy but ok Roast potatoes not crispy at all and the mash was quite watery & tasteless, as was the stuffing. Yorkshires not great, but I know they are not at their best when left standing. The rest of the veg including the gravy was lovely. Hubby had a crumble pudding which he said was superb, plenty of lovely custard.Staff were great, so friendly and helpful. All in all shouldn't really grumble for the price

We visited recently as part of a large group. We had not been warned this was mainly a carvery restaurant. I had a carvery meal and it was perfectly acceptable. My husband however who is not a carvery fan didn't enjoy the experience. It would be better if there was an varied alternative menu running along side. The service was excellent.

Lovely choice of four meats, pork, turkey, beef and pork. Good choice of vegetables which you could help yourself to, as much as you wanted and choice of 2 different graves, also several condiments. We go to Legh Arms on a regular basis. The staff are lovely, ALL the staff not just front of house! If I have a question they find out for me (last one was how the onions were done) one before that was how the app worked and how did I pay using it lol. Not good with modern technology! The food is good, occasionally the meat can be a little strange but, it's a natural product and it goes with the territory. Most times it's melt in the mouth. I'm a veg fiend so can always find something and I'm really enjoying the addition of the roast sweet potato.

Went in last night, was told to sit miles away from the carvery deck, and was told a server would be over for a drink order...I waited 15 minutes until I had to go to the bar to ask for drinks myself, then the food! Very little meat or veg left at 7pm! It’s like the chefs have forgotten to re make any veg, poor choice of veg, was only 1 mash, half a tray of roasts a few carrots and peas. I love this place so please improve I’d say regular changing of veg or more staff on?

Parked in what we thought was the free pub car park, received a parking fine for £100 one week later. We arrived when it was pitch black and due to COVID restrictions couldn't leave our table once we were seated. Hence, we didn't have a clue we had to pay to park. The staff didn't mention it to us at any point. Strange considering how many terrible reviews they're getting for the exact same reason? Why oh why.

With all the ambience of a canteen on a cross channel ferry, with so much noise, this is not a pleasant experience. I put shoes on for dinner, but that made me overdressed. Should have put some old trainers on. I live and learn. Add in that the food is really quite pricey for what it is, and it would definitely not be the place I would ever choose to eat. But I am staying in the hotel, and have an early start tomorrow. The hotel is very nice, and I will review separately, but it deserves a PROPER restaurant given the heritage of the place. Main course only for me, as work wont expense a £12 starter on top of a £6.50 pint without moaning, and I am out of this ludicrously loud and echoing ‘school dinner hall’ feeling place as soon as possible! Wish I had room service and not bothered.
