Came for Sunday roast Camembert was well over cooked Ordered pork belly roast (it said with burnt apple sauce) Dinner came, no apple sauce so asked for it to be told there was none. Should have been told when ordering or would have got the beef Yorkshire’s burnt

Visited this August, and the service was amazing. Bar and restaurant staff was amazing. In particular, Nathan on breakfast, Nathan the bar manager, and Lochlann in the dinner service team. Food was fresh and served well, and breakfast was amazing. Carol went out of her way to find gluten free buns for my toast, too. I had duck leg that was perfectly done, which is hard to pull, as it either gets too dry or is undercooked. Will definitely return.

Booked for afternoon tea as the location of the castle and the room both lookd superb online. The Star Chamber was beautiful and would have benefitted from the fire being lit on such a cold winter day. The tea was nice and hot but the food was sadly lacking: not enough sandwiches or cakes for the price. We left still hungry

I was just staying the one night but after a lovely run along the shoreline, had built up a good appetite. There is quite an extensive menu and it very reasonably priced. Nice drinks selection although took quite some digging to get full range offering - the team, who are very attentive, do not know their ‘product’ well enough - & that applies to the drinks and food menu. The curried cauliflower soup is delicious and very nicely presented with toasted sourdough. The main was chicken on a bed of sage & squash risotto. The risotto was disappointingly tasteless and the chicken overwhelmed by bacon bread crumbs. It is definitely worth a try again and they really aim to offer a very personable and professional service without any pomposity - and in a very nice decor/setting - in total contrast to the front of the hotel!! Keep working at it team.

Had a 2 night bed & breakfast stay. Excellent family room for 3 people with a great view. Megan on reception was superb and sorted out the room with an extra bed. Had an evening meal in the restaurant that again was excellent and a reasonable price, super Broccoli and parmesan soup & tandoori prawns to start, Spaghetti Bolognese, Fish & chips and belly pork for mains . Breakfast in the morning catered for all of our needs, the cooked breakfast was of good quality and hot. Bar area is nice and a great location to explore the Wirral. All in all faultless...

We ate here on our first night. Lovely location with nice views of the golf course and great service. I ordered the sausage and mash dish- perfect! Could not fault it. Simple delicious wholesome food; well presented and delicious. My wife ordered the spaghetti bolognese. But this was not so good. The pasta was just not right- tasted and looked undercooked and could not be manipulated by any twisting of the fork. We complained and a replacement dish arrived. But it was no different. The pasta just wasnt what it should be. But despite this ruining our dinner the restaurant manager did her best to recompense. We were not charged for the pasta dish and were provided with a complimentary drink. A lovely touch which helped ease the pain! So yes we had a rather difficult dining experience on this occasion but sure it was a one off bad pasta experience. The staff more than compensated for that. We were certainly not out of pocket. The restaurant manager should be commended for the subtle and friendly way she engages with the customers. Truly impressive!! Would we recommend this place? Damn yes....but just steer clear of that pasta (although we were told the pasta would be changed). I have no doubt on another occasion with a different menu selection we would be giving this a 5 star award. But on this occasion we can only grade on this experience (hence the 3 stars we gave given).

Had dinner here, myself and my partner both had full 3 courses. I've given 4 stars for a combination of my visit including the service, restaurant, price and food. However the food would be more 3 star for this visit. The restaurant itself is lovely, the room is airy and bright, with some lovely views. We were lucky to be seated in one of the comfortable booths too.We were seated and given menus/had our drinks orders taken right away, which were returned quite quickly.I had the Pate started, which wasn't unfortunately anything special, to be honest it looked and tasted exactly like what I buy from Tesco, including the red onion marmalade. The brioche wasn't really toasted, so it was a bit hard to spread. My partner had halloumi fries which he said were delicious and he could have eaten more, so no complaints there. For our mains, I had the mussels in white wine sauce, and my partner had the sirloin steak. No complaints on my main, it was delicious. However my partners steak was a bit lacklustre, and again, it cook have been bought and cooked ourselves.I had the cheesecake for dessert, which again wasn't the best, it was all a bit too heavy, the base and the filling. My partner had the smores dessert which he liked. The entire bill only came to around £65, so for 3 courses each, including drinks, and for a lovely environment and attentive service, I give 4 stars.

Whilst staying at the hotel on Wednesday 8th we had the deal £129.00 inc breakfast and dinner (£25pp to spend plus house bottle of wine) in the Brasserie 1593 which has a nice decor and ambience. We both had the Chicken Liver Pate that was good and then the 8oz ribeye steak (medium/rare) for my wife and the chargrilled pork chop for myself..Unfortunately neither of us could eat our meals as both the meats were tough...dried out. The restaurant manager was quick to offer replacing our meals (My wife had the Salmon fish in a bag..excellent... and myself the Baked goats cheese in filo pastry and salad..enjoyable) and also offered us a free dessert plus deducting the extra price that we would have payed for a more expensive bottle of wine. Overall the service was attentive and helpful.

Booked a Christmas lunch for 11 people & pre ordered our choices. My starter was pate served with a slice floppy brioche bread - adequate. The main was turkey with all the trimmings - this consisted of turkey roll, overcooked roast potatoes, overcooked pig in blanket & a couple of slices of veg all sat on a sloppy bread sauce & gravy. The rest of the veg (sprouts, broccoli) were served cold & uncooked - couldn't eat it. My pre-chosen dessert was Christmas pud in brandy sauce - when this came it was with custard. As I don't like custard I asked if I could another with ice cream but was told no as the chef had only steamed the exact no of puds. I swapped mine with a friend as she had chosen the pavlova - which looked very unappetizing. This was equally poor - a small pathetic looking meringue with a lump of cream & frozen fruit. Again I couldn't eat it. When we asked if we could have coffee the staff replied - I suppose so!

I booked a Christmas festive lunch for myself and a friend who was coming up from London. Every year we have a Christmas meal close to Christmas. The lunch advertised on the site was for turkey with all the trimmings. The lunch was booked on the 2nd December, for today the 19th December at 1pm, the result of two telephone calls , one to make sure the times available the second to book. We turned up for the lunch today, was shown to a table and a waiter asked wether we were there for the festive lunch and confirmed any options available. We said what we wanted, and ordered drinks. Then a lady arrived at the table and said that she had no record of the booking and as a consequence we would not be able to have lthe festive unch. She apologised profusely and said we could have a free ordinary not festive season lunch which consisted of dishes like fish and chips and burger and chips. As we were looking forward to a Christmas festive meal, we turned her offer down and were very disappointed that our Christmas treat to ourselves had been ruined. I would not trust going there again and while apologetic and with the knowledge that everyone makes mistakes, this situation was outrageous and not acceptable. Never again!

Came here with my family for Mother’s Day, beautiful place and everything! We had the set menu which was £19.95 per person, completely not worth it! The starter I had was cooked for way to long ya couldn’t eat it with a fork! I asked the waitress if I could swap my beef for chicken and she didn’t have a clue! She told me the beef came in a Yorkshire pudding so couldn’t replace it, when my meal came the beef was just on the plate so I don’t understand why they couldn’t put chicken on? Also the meal didn’t come with any roast potatoes, which I’m sure we all agree is a vital part of a ROAST dinner?! When we asked for the potatoes the waiter said he has no idea if we get them? So he went and asked and bought out a plate of potatoes that were like rocks! The chef needs replacing if they want this place to work! The staff were friendly but completely strange they would just stand behind the bar staring at us! Very strange! Came here with 4 friends to celebrate a birthday. Drinks took half an hour to arrive (bottle of wine, one vodka and one lager) Ordered the pork, waited 50 minutes for it to arrive - basically just a pork chop with crackling too hard to eat, a pineapple on the top, teaspoon of apple sauce and what can only be called liquidised bland black pudding on the side - no veg or potatoes - we wrongly assumed that as the waitress didn't ask if we wanted 'sides' then these would accompany it - but oh no, none provided. When the pork arrived and we realised this we then asked if they could provide us with sides (chips) but in a more timely manner than the pork itself we were told that they weren't sure if it could be provided quickly as there was a wedding on upstairs! The chips did arrive 15 minutes later, but then further delays with the desert arriving 30 minutes after ordering and coffee another 30 minutes after ordering. Because of the time delays already seen we decided to ask for the bill at the same time as ordering the coffee - the bill arriving pretty quickly! We were still drinking the coffee when the waitress came up to us and asked if we could pay the bill as the restuarant was closing (it was only 10.15pm, not exactly late! - we'd actually arrived at 7.30pm - but only finished the coffee at that time due to THEIR serving delays!). We were told however that we could move to the cocktail lounge where they had an offer of cocktails with the 2nd one half price which we declined!!.

As a hotel guest traveling on business, this restaurant wasn't really to my taste. They didn't have any of the traditional pies lasagne or even a burger. They had a limited menu had more exotic items like pork belly, and specialty mac & cheese dishes. I would have enjoyed it more if they had a traditional selection as well as specialty menu. As a traveller staying multiple nights I couldn't eat there more than a day or two without running out of things I would like to try or getting bored with such a limited selection.

Visited for afternoon tea with my daughters after winning a voucher in a local summer fair. I was slightly dubious as I'd noticed previous reviews on this site were not always complimentary but it was clear from my visit that the restaurant had taken criticism seriously and taken steps to improve the experience. the tea was served on a 3 tier china cake stand and comprised a plentiful selection of sandwiches (cheese and pickle, smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham, and traditional cucumber. This was followed by generous sized scones with an abundance of cream and jam and a garnish of strawberries, and then 4 types of cake and macaroons. We could not manage the whole array but were happily supplied with a box to take the extra cake home. The meal was accompanied by tea in a stylish tea pot, with lemonade and fruit juice for my daughters. The food was delicious, scones and chocolate cake voted the highlights. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the setting was clean, light and airy. The restaurant was very quiet but mid week and mid afternoon.

We got off to a bad start as someone had booked us in for 4pm lunch on Mother's Day instead of 2pm! So we were put in the the cocktail bar on our own with no atmosphere and staff that had no clue (although not unpleasant) of how to make us welcome or have proper waitress skills. Because of this we seemed to be left to our own devises while they idly chatted at the bar. The meals were not up to standard at all, in fact one of the party had a steak which looked as if it had been kicked around the kitchen a number of times and that was from the al a carte menu. The puddings were good and were the only redeeming feature to this sorry and disappointing afternoon.

Breakfasts the same - lots to complain about but one example will suffice - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were on the breakfast menu - when we ordered we were told they were out of smoked salmon - it comes out of a packet - so how can they be out? As we are both vegetarian we chose from a somewhat limited choice for veggies the Thai Curry with rice and a portion of chunky chips. The sauce was like coloured dishwater and all it contained was green beans and the odd bit of other veg. We did complain to the waitress after we had eaten half of it and left the rest but no feedback was forthcoming. The chips were nicely cooked and a codiner enjoyed her fish and chips. As a non drinker i asked for tomato juice but i was very surprised it was not available. Had to settle for pineapple juice. Breakfast the next morning was self service and fine for meat eaters. I had given advance warning of our dietry requirements but all they could offer as a veggie alternative to bacon sausage and black pudding was some veggie saysages which were nicely cooked however. Some hash browns wouldnt go amiss and the toast machine needs three passes to get browned toast. Very comfortsble and airy in the brasserie and service very good just the choices for veggies let it down

After much anticipation booked a table for 4 at the recently opened cocktail and tapas bar on a Saturday for our 30th wedding anniversary as this is where we had our wedding. ordered cocktails and asked for the tapas menu only to be told they weren't doing tapas and was given the normal menu. my friend went and complained at reception to be told yes they are doing tapas, to which we told them they weren't. the lady was very apologetic and gave us a drink on the house. we decided to stay and eat off the main menu. at 9.45pm we asked for the dessert menu to be told it was too late and we couldn't have any dessert. at approx. 11.00pm we asked for the bill, I had a voucher from friends my friend went to pay by card to be told they don't accept card and she would have to pay at reception, she went to reception to be told you cant pay by card after 11 and she would have to go to the nearest card machine which is miles away, not good when you've all been drinking. luckily between we managed to find the £55 to cover her bill. the lady (sorry cant remember her name) was very apologetic about everything and said she had written a report and we would get a phone call, still waiting.

Was eager to try the belly pork which got swapped on the menu for lamb . Was not disappointed one of the best meals I've ever had the lamb even though I asked for it well done was more tender than my partners steak needing only a butter knife to cut. Baby vegetables potatoe and ju was complimentary. Service by Jack excellent lovely unique dining experience and although quiet this did not effect the unique atmosphere. At one point we were the only ones in the grand star chamber room but this just made it more special. We were not rushed and staff were attentive but not overly so. Would come again just for the food and reasonable prices for the quality you get . Excellent :)

The castle looks quirky and overlooks the golf course. The hotel receptionist directed us to the Cocktail Bar for our Afternoon Tea Deal. There were a few tables occupied but no sign of any staff. After 20 minutes of waiting I approached the young waiter who had been waiting on at the other tables and told him that we had a reservation for Afternoon Tea. We were seated at a table of our choice and he laid the table out for us. There weren't any menus available. When the slate platter arrived there was only one finger each of egg, tuna and ham, equivalent I think of one round of bread each. There was a small scone with cream and a strawberry each and a square of lemon and poppyseed cake and a square of chocolate brownie. The food was very nice but a smaller amount than we have had at other cafes and restaurants. There wasn't any Earl Grey Tea either. Tables were full of used crockery even though no-one came into the restaurant after us and there were only three tables occupied. Our waiter was always polite and apologised as and when appropriate. However, it was clear that he had received inadequate training, so I don't blame him, I blame the management. Examples are: being ignored for 20 minutes when we arrived, he referred to the Prosecco as Champagne, we weren't given any napkins, there weren't any sweeteners in the sugar bowl and we asked him to replace a cup which was completely brown inside with tea stains. We waited ages for the pot of ordinary tea to arrive and then it was in 1960's stainless steel which was completely out of character for the venue and the room.

I liked the ambience of the newly refurbished room we were directed too and the swift service to which the drinks and food were brought... But where was the pretty China, the choice of sandwiches or delicate cakes? Neither was there any garnish.

Afternoon tea was delicious, selection of sandwiches were perfect, followed by scone and cakes-both chocolate and both divine! All washed down with a mini-bottle of Prosecco each and a huge pot of tea each. My friend and I were having a catch-up after a few months and this was the ideal location, we were not rushed, the Staff were attentive without being intrusive. After we had finished we asked if we could take a look around the Hotel, this was welcomed and we were advised to be careful as there were refurbishments in progress. All Staff we met along the way were friendly and keen to show us the improvements to the Hotel. The workmen were also enthusiastic about the Hotel, showing us the rooms and telling us about the resident ghosts! Would definitely recommend a visit. We will definitely be returning.

If you like to laugh, please read on. It was our daughters 21st Birthday dinner and we couldn't complain, because it would have ruined it for her. The problems here are all down to management. The waitress that served us, was a lovely person but ! Obviously has had no training to serve. Came to the table with a note pad to take our orders before! Giving us the menu ?? (Menu was an A4 sheet of paper) We were not asked what drinks we would like, we had to ask to see what we could order ?? Then the drinks came as we finished our first course a first course that were three prawns on a skewer and they were luke warm? We had bread an olives as a side order to share, three pieces of the bread were warm and two were so cold! As if they had come from a fridge?? Then our drinks came ????????? The bottle of wine was placed on the table and when I called the waitress back to ask for it to be opened !! ?? She said "oh, it's one of those posh bottles" It had a cork in it, the woman on the table next to us nearly choked with laughter. The main course came and I have to admit it was lovely, so credit where it's due (but that was it) My wife and daughter ordered a Raspberry torte, described as "fresh Raspberries over a chocolate torte, with Pistachio ice cream" My wife loves Raspberries but couldn't seem to find a single one on both dishes ? And the ice cream was just plain vanilla ?? So if you want to save yourself £107.00 bill for three people, go elsewhere, because they may have made improvements to the building, but not how to produce a 'fine dining experience' as advertised. Also the room itself needs to be upgraded, as that was tired or do they call it an Historic look ??

Great place to stay spend our wedding night here. Got complementary bottle of champagne delivered to our room also got upgraded that night to the honeymoon suite free of charge as we didn't hold our wedding there. Overall friendly staff that were so very helpful and kind hearted. Would recommend a stay here as the sights over the golf course and the sea are breathtaking.

We had high tea here recently and it was outstanding. I have been for afternoon tea in several hotels, cafes and restaurants but this was by far the best. The service was amazing and the food was exquisite. There were 10 of us dining and there was food to spare, there was enough vegetarian options as well as meat and fish and everything looked and tasted divine. Compliments to the chef x

We had staff Christmas night out, the food was awful not worth £33 a head. It was not a traditional Christmas dinner to start with, we didn't get the beef that was agreed for some of the guests before payment and withdrawn after they had received £1000 payment. There was no meat alternative & the fish disappeared off the menu too.

Maybe I expected too much because it was a castle but I was completely underwhelmed. The room was small decor bright purple with old fashioned green chair and curtains. Shower needed revamp. We attended a wedding and the wedding breakfast was abysmal for the price. The breakfast the next morning was average the bacon obviously microwaved. For the price i expected better.

We went on a voucher deal. three of us paid an extra £2 each for the steak option. The food was all well prepared and cooked to our taste. The starters were excellent. The only thing that spoiled the visit was that it was deathly quiet with no atmosphere, could have done with some music playing quietly in the background. It was hard to find staff when we were ready to leave. We're unlikely to visit again even on a voucher deal due to the lack of atmosphere.

My last visit a few years back with my family left much to be desired regarding the food quality. However, today's experience was utterly different. I enjoyed lovely fish and chips, featuring a generous portion of fish and crispy and hearty chips. The service was pleasant, and witnessing your efforts cleaning an already immaculate-looking establishment was pleasing. The staff was courteous and amiable towards my grandson. Continue on this path; you're doing a splendid job. We would not return we could not all have breakfast at the same time so could not eat with our daughter, husband and grandson. Could not eat at the times we wanted it was very short staffed and food items not topped up as they ran out so constantly having to ask for things like milk, butter, bread ,juice etc on the last morning the sausages were not even cooked properly it was a right fiasco we would not return here again.

Mysterious, Quirky, Intriguing and most certainly very original and different. Whilst the Fort Perch Rock as a fort is closed to the public, the Cafe Eatery inside and open air and along the ramp is open and worth trying out. The Cafe is atmospherically dark like the bowels of a ship but quite an experience and the food menu is very reasonable. Be brave ..... and visit .... just for an experience.
