Very disappointed booked a festive afternoon tea for myself mum and daughters expecting to have a lovely relaxing afternoon. They had squashed too many people in and you couldn’t move without having to get someone else to stand up. The afternoon tea was ok but not what I expected as they have a reputation for excellent food but it was ok not excellent , they served the tea from Thermos jugs rather than providing you with a teapot per table and because of this it was stewed. I know that it is closing on Christmas Day but I just feel that they did not provide the best service because of this. If it wasn’t closing I wouldn’t go back. Also the toilets were not as clean as they could be and there was a strange smell. A lovely afternoon for me was spoilt.

Thought we would give The Mouse a visit for Sunday lunch having not been for several years and the Sunday menu online looked reasonable. When we arrived the restaurant was closed with a notice stating seating outside only, this was not mentioned when booking earlier that day. Not being greeted nor having any clue what the set-up was, we approached an outside bar area and when asked if we could sit inside or under cover at least we were told there were functions on that day so unable - again nothing mentioned of this during the booking. We were then shown to the bottom of a garden sat as far away as it was possible to a tatty wooden table under a shaded area where there were nats and flies in abundance. The menu differed to what we saw online (price) but to then be told we would have to walk to what I describe as a 'shack' bar to place our order, to get a 'buzzer' to then collect when ready was the last straw...so we left and went elsewhere. Sadly we wont be returning.

Booked Sunday lunch and when we arrived were told it was outside service only. There was a function on inside. They knew this when we booked day before and didn't say anything. Wouldn't have gone otherwise... Sunday lunch sitting in the back garden!!! Even had to serve ourselves collecting the food from the collection point!!! Then we had to go and hunt for cutlery... NOT GOOD SERVICE AT THE MOUSE IN BRIMSTAGE. Management need to go on a management course. Whilst we were looking for cutlery, the young waitress was kissing and hugging the young barman behind the bar... WON'T BE GOING AGAIN! £19.00 for a small roast dinner!!! RIP OFF!...

We booked a table for Sunday lunch and had we been told on the phone that we would be sat outside we would have chosen somewhere else. We got there and there was no acknowledgement from staff even though we looked lost as to what we needed to do to get our table. We were told because of other functions happening we could choose any of the tables in the garden. You needed to order at the bar, which would have been fine had the staff a clue or customer service. The dinner was nice but not worth the price being charged. You were given a buzzer and had to go and collect your dinner which was just left on a ledge. An absolutely awful system for Sunday lunch! Would not recommend anyone to eat at this place with the system they have in place for food orders and the useless staff.

Lovely setting, we loved the Summer vibe. Downside, we were advised to reserve a table, for our party of six, when I phoned the previous day. No reserved table, fair enough, we found one for ourselves. We went to order food, food orders were suspended whilst an event took place inside! This was meant to be my sons birthday celebration! We made do with an ice cream from a nearby shop. Not quite the hearty meal that we expected.

Really disappointing experience, came here for my mum's birthday. As there were three baby showers on at the venue everything had been moved outside and my 83 year old mum really struggled to get to a table in the shade using her walking sticks over the uneven surface and up a couple of steps - I had pre booked and had not been told there was no inside option available on the day. The starter we chose was not available,we were not advised when we collected our menus from the bar, we chose again from t he limited menu that was not the one on the website , when our meals were ready a buzzer we had been given alerted us to the fact our food was now placed and waiting on the other side of the bar in a collection area for us to get- not really acceptable for those with mobility issues. My starter was ok but the mains were terrible, our roast potatoes were burnt and our chicken very tough. My mum did mention this but nothing was done about it. such a shame as we have been coming here for years, with family and friends, and wanted to support a new change in ownership but that was the last time unfortunately , would not recommend sadly

It wasn’t even busy in there we waited for over 15 mins for our order to be taken and a further 20 mins went by and still no coffee or cake the staff kept just disappearing in the kitchen and staying in there for ages all of them. So I got up and told them we were leaving as we had already waited over 30 mins just for a Coke and a coffee . No apology just a reply on what table are you on we told her and expected for her to perhaps apologise … no just ok bye… such a shame. I would completely sympathise with them if they were busy or ran off their feet but there was only 2 other tables in there full and they were all eating.

We were visiting the farm next door. We were surprised food was so close as nothing on farm website. Well there's a reason they didn't mention it. We got in and seated quickly. The restaurants trying to be bouji so no chairs match which is actually a pain. We couldn't comfortably sit round the table for the 30 minute wait for a drinks order. We gave up waiting as asked to place order multiple times and ended up ordering food and drinks at the bar. Thankfully we paid up at the bar as poor table next to us asked 8 times for the bill and when we left still hadn't got it. Everyone working there seemed to be new or very young. What we found was that this meant no leadership utter confusion in responsibilities. The walls bathrooms and lots of ceilings are covered in the attempt to be edgy and bouji. What it means is dirty dusty items above your food and fake flowers that attach to your hair. Would I go again. Absolutely not. Over priced. £4 for frozen chips placed in a fryer. Most mains don't seem to come with chips and are small portions. Will we go back to the farm. In a heart beat. But next time I'll take a picnic.

The room was beautifully set up to my requirements and the staff were very happy for us to bring our own flowers and balloons. They were very attentive throughout the event, but not too intrusive. Always happy to oblige if we asked for anything during the afternoon. The afternoon tea itself was beautifully presented, delicious and very generous. The kitchen were happy to cater for some guests various dietary requirements. Tea and coffee were served and then we could help ourselves all afternoon. Called here for the third time, on Sunday morning. My partner lives locally and showed me this hidden curiosity! We have never booked - but each time have been given that most accommodating phrase: I can let you have table X till X. This generally bodes well for an establishment that cares for its clientele and motivates its staff. If I were to have a minor criticism, it would be that portions are small. But then it could equally be said that maybe we all eat too much. This is a great place with a great atmosphere, full of intimate little nooks and crannies. Despite having fitted us in, we never felt rushed or pressured. Perhaps I might ask, that on the day after the clocks went forward, you could stretch the time limit for serving breakfast for we lazy people who are not restrained by such idiosyncrasies. However, these are all of little consequence in the great scheme of things: A good meal - well served - reasonably priced, with a warm welcome

I am not in the habit of putting up bad reviews, but after sending an email to the Mouse a week ago and receiving no reply, it has confirmed that sadly they don’t care when customers have a disappointing experience. We booked for Mother's Day and been really looking forward to treating my mum to a special day. Although the starters were served promptly and were good, we were left nearly an hour waiting for our mains. During this time, no one came to apologise or tell us why there was such a wait. My Dad had ordered a glass of red wine (which he could have enjoyed during the very long wait) but this didn’t appear despite asking for it a further 3 times. When our mains did eventually arrive after having to ask for them, the staff member said there had been a medical emergency with a customer. However, during this time, tables which had come in after us had been served, so the truth was that we’d just been forgotten. We had had to put in a pre-order for the various roast options. Mine came with just one roast potato, a teaspoon of carrot, a pile of tasteless white cabbage, and a tiny bit of gravy. It felt like they’d run out of food, despite our pre-order. Had anyone come to check if our food was ok - as is standard practice everywhere - I would have mentioned this, but no one came to check. I would have also asked for the Mother’s Day cocktail which I had pre-ordered but which never made an appearance. The jug of water we requested also never came. The staff were clearly run off their feet, I know days like this can be difficult but we were offered no real apology and it was the way it was dealt with that was the most upsetting. This experience put a cloud over what should have been a lovely day and made us all feel really disappointed. The Mouse looks fantastic and maybe the bad food, service and unwillingness to respond was a one-off. I hope so. Sadly it’s left me feeling that the Mouse is style over substance.

I only go for breakfast and lunch but the parties and events look fantastic. Food is always spot on and the team are lovely and friendly, I can easily spend a few hours here. Disappointed. They no longer do the sandwiches we used to love. (Or any sandwiches at all?) Everything has gone up so much, much more than other places selling the same food The main problem was with the way the people on the next table were spoken too. The lady had some dietary problems and said she would have loved the Welsh rarebit but there was some thing in it she couldn't have. The waitress said she would ask the chef if she could make just plain cheese on toast. The waitress returned a few minutes later and told the Lady that the chef had agreed as a one off but not to expect this kind of treatment again as it wouldn't be happening !! I felt the way this was said was extremely rude and had it been said to me I would have walked out. It was unnecessary and I very much doubt the other customers or myself and my friends will be coming back any time soon. There are plenty of other places where customers are treated with a little more respect.

What a cute and quirky location! A perfect place for the 21st we were invited to. The food provided was excellent and the atmosphere in the conservatory where we held the party was great. It's in roughly an Alice in Wonderland theme which, makes it they little bit quirkie. Staff were friendly, but seemed inexperienced. Minor issues, (lack of gas to beers, men's toilets lacked anything to do your hands), went seemingly unfixed with no apologies for either problem and no rush to get them fixed ( No tissues were ever put into the toilets). Overall, I would recommend this place. The non-party areas seemed busy, but food looked nice and of good variety.

Delightful environment and the spiced lentil soup was delicious. However, we ordered quiche Lorraine to be given a mess of soggy cheese and tomato with undercooked onions. This , with a salad was £12.95. Hugely disappointing. I don't think we will return

We have been to the mouse so many times and today they were absolutely rammed. We were told they were full but then were asked if we minded sitting at a table suitable for 8 people with me and my partner sat one end and another couple at the other end. We didn’t mind at all! Food was delicious - homemade pie with lovely vegetables and mash. It really was great to see the place so busy. This is a local independent and hospitality venues have really been through it. I’m glad for them, they have a lovely team and are super friendly! The grounds and gardens are wonderful for summer, we can’t wait to get back there and enjoy a nice chilled Pinot Grigio in the sunshine!!!

I would recommend the Mouse to any bride and groom due to deciding to get married in the chapel on 17th December. Barbara and her team made our day by making sure everything went to plan. Food was also amazing and executed like clock work. All our guests were really impressed with the venue and as a result we have a lot of amazing photos due to the different themes of the rooms from the stunning chapel to the sit down restaurant followed by a separate stunning disco room. Very happy bride and groom.

Met up with friends for a Christmas get together. The food was excellent . The person sorting out the bill wasn't taking care and talking to other staff. I was asked to pay twice and one friend asked for her receipt because she wanted to make sure she had not been over charged. The restaurant was really lovely for Christmas but it was freezing, most people in there didn't take their coats off. I would come again but probably in warmer weather.

This was my 2nd visit to the Country Mouse this year. In my last review of this place I vowed that I would return. My wife and I where driving through Brimstage and decided to stop off and grab a coffee and cake. When we arrived at 2pm we where greeted by a friendly waitress that said she would prepare a table for us. It was quite busy but enough room to eat without booking. We where presented with the menu and it was quite clear at that point that I was not just having coffee and cake haha. They had a festive part of the menu which was varied for all tastes. I opted for the Turkey Ciabatta that comes with Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce. It was presented well on a dark slate with a dressed salad on the side. For a drink I opted for a Latte to warm myself up as the weather outside was frightful. The food was very tasty and seasoned well including the salad. I can never fault the food here it is always a delight. For dessert I had victoria sponge which was homemade, fluffy and made well, not dry like some can be. My wife opted for the spicy parsnip soup and meringue for dessert. Clean plates and bowls all round means a great lunch was eaten. Congrats to the country mouse for once again meeting my high expectations. See you again soon.

Lovely bustling little inn with some really well thought out and presented food. Overflow seating is in a gorgeous, quaint little chapel to the side. Prices are not bad for the quality and quantity of the fare.

Really disappointed with the service & value for money. Over £7 for a bacon sandwich, which was 2 slices of very thin bread & a few bits of bacon. No cutlery or napkins were given. Drinks were "dumped" on table on a tray, so much that all the coffees spilt. No-one told us with coffees were which! Just walked off leaving us to sort out.

Beautifully decorated place but dreadful service and extortionate prices. £7 for a bacon butty which consisted 2 pieces of bread and 3 pieces of fatty bacon. No cutlery given. Drinks dumped on the table and left on the tray for us to sort ourselves and manager said it’s because they were busy. £28 for 3 coffees and 2 bacons butties. Will not be going again!

What a hidden gem! It looks absolutely fabulous inside, the food was very reasonably priced, staff lovely and the food was excellent! I rarely have a starter but was tempted by the onion petals, which were delicious, followed by a very tasty roast dinner with gorgous roast potatoes. I can't wait to return.

I've only given it three stars because they skewered tuna, cheese and meat sandwiches together on a plate without notifying anyone eating Lovely setting though. The dining area looks lovely and cosy. . Had a nice time there at an event. Way too much pink and dusty tacky flowers in the summerhouse events area for my liking. Staff were lovely but often forgot our orders for refills. So you lost out on more drinks being sold

After attempting to get breakfast at The Claremont farm and finding it so popular we could not get in we diverted to The Mouse and were very glad we did. The cafe/ restaurant is set in intriguing and historical surroundings, has a fascinating interior and a wonderful atmosphere. The service was excellent. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient and the food was cooked to perfection. Although this had been a second choice it will be our first next time.

Had dinner here last Friday. I normally love this place, but sadly, not on this occasion. Our table was at 6pm and restaurant closes at 9pm. We ordered fish and chips. Our server said we can come again this late if we are ordering something easy. (Late? 3 hours before closing time) Food came out within minutes and wasn't as good as usual. We sat for 10 minutes outside to drink our wine then went back in to order dessert and coffee. We were told the kitchen was closed and the staff also added, that they had been in since 9am. (Presumably through choice) We were offered cake from the cabinets on counter, but we declined. We went back outside to finish our drinks and staff locked up and left. Very rushed experience. I did messege owner directly, before I did my review, and was told she would call me to discuss our visit. She never got in touch. This was one of my top 5 eating places on the Wirral, so was a very disappointing meal out.

I expected much more than this. They were only offering a limited service likely due to the heat but this was not explained. The vintage cheddar cheese sandwich seem to just have shredded packet cheese in it. The salads were a joke, best part of £15 for what seemed to be half a bag of packet lettuce, a few slices of red onions, no tomatoes, no olives, hardly any feta, not what I would call a Greek salad! Maybe we caught them on a bad day but I am not going to be rushing back.

Nice location and the decor makes it feel lovely and cosy, especially on a rainy day. Went on a Sunday and they were fully booked as well as hosting a christening which meant service was slow, seems they’d booked for more than they could handle. One of the waitresses didn’t have a clue, messed up our order twice and when reading back what we’d ordered managed to get items we’d not even mentioned. Food was poor with majority of items gone by lunch time. Don’t have most of your menu based on fish if you’re not going to have it. Wasn’t amazed by the food options nor the taste, wouldn’t go back in a hurry.
