Will NEVER use them again. Ordered 12 pasties for a family celebration and they never came. Courier crap, said order was refused. That was a lie. Took several phone calls and emails over the period of 5 days to get a refund. NEVER AGAIN.

Just received my pasties by post. I'm currently in the first trimester of pregnancy and all I wanted was a proper Cornish pasty but vegetable which does not exist outside Cornwall, and living in Peterborough now it's a bit of a long trip. Lavenders to the rescue. Could not be more pleased. These will keep me in a taste of home for a bit longer and keep the pregnancy nausea at bay. Great value too and of course DELICIOUS. Could not be happier.

Bought a small quiche from this shop for £5, thought it was a bit expensive at the time, but on the strenght of the good reviews they have , decided to give it a try. What a surprise as we heated it up in the oven lots a grease started to run out of it, it tasted revolting and ended up in the bin. Supermarket quiches for half the price are much better, also the lady serving in the shop seemed very unfriendly and unhelpful.

We very rarely go to Penzance for our own leisure (it's normally rushing around, shopping or banking). So whilst having a day for ourselves came across Lavenders. What a gem ! So many things we wanted to buy. We eventually decided on pasties, strudel, quiche and Bakewell tart. We thoroughly enjoyed them all. Pasties and quiche thick with filling. Couldn't find fault with anything. Lady and Gent serving were friendly and patient with us whilst we decided what to buy. Will certainly return on our next visit to Penzance.

We used this bakery & deli twice whilst staying in Penzance & were very impressed. Their made to order Newlyn crab sandwiches are really excellent, lots of beautiful crab meat, soft bread & a portion of salad to garnish. We also bought their lovely quiches which had that “homemade” look about them, packed with filling. The staff are very friendly, helpful…people are queuing outside the door but its worth the wait.

Ordered and paid for on the 9th. Given delivery date of 15th. Arranged evening 'picnic' with friends and family. By 5.30 pm, no sign of pasties, nobody rang to say there was a problem. Ten people on there way and no food! Just spent a small fortune on fish and chips for 10 people!! Left a message cancelling pasties. Finally around 7pm, someone rings to say FedEx hadn't collected them and I would have them tomorrow. No apology, just, ' well, it's out of my hands'! Told him I no longer required them, no attempt to appease me. Just, well refuse them tomorrow and I'll issue a refund. Customer Service at its best!! If he had said, keep the pasties and pay half of the cost, would of been something. But no, he is willing to take back 10 pasties that by tomorrow will have been travelling around Cornwall for at least 24 hours in a van. Guessing they won't try and sell them!

A delightful family bakery tucked away in Penzance. Pasties were overall very nice all freshly prepared in house that morning. The pastry, the cornerstone of any good pasty, was possibly the highlight. They were hand rolled and the perfect balance of crumbly and flaky with a beautiful colour. The only problem I had with the pasty was the ratio of fillings inside as the beef seemed to be a bit of an afterthought. The swede and onions inside were slightly overpowering, making the filling remarkably average, even when compared to some of the lower quality chain bakeries that seem to be popping up all over Cornwall. To my delight, the 4 pasties my family bought cost us £15.00, quite frankly a bargain in the modern climate. They even had the capabilities to accept contact less payment! Overall, a lovely visit and I would certainly return in future.

Just bought a cheese and mushroom pasty from Lavenders and it was incredibly disappointing. There was about two slices of mushroom in the whole pasty and the tiniest bit of cheese. It's not like cheese and mushrooms are that expensive as ingredients so there's no need to be so stingy with them in my opinion. Unless Lavenders ups their vegetarian pasty game, I definitely won't be coming back and won't be recommending them to anybody else.

We tried the place on the long rock industrial estate, the pasties retail at premium rate but quality is at best only OK! Were looking for a simple English Café meal and had planned to go to 'the Buttery' which was every so popular the last times we had visited. Sadly although the sign is there now a fancy Fish Restaurant, that was closed due to lack of booking- funny that. Never mind we had been to Lavenders before for a snack meal. Although they seemed to do what looked to be a simple menu mum had Cheese on Toast and I had the Ploughmans. Went for the 3 cheese to try some new cheeses, so had Yarg, Cornish Blue and Brie. Price was nearly £9 and did not have much salad, but Baguette, pickles etc were good and it was filling. Have had better presented and value Ploughmans at Ballantines (Barnstable) and at the Canal in Tiverton, but I guess part of the cost was the specialist cheese in this case. Would definitely use the Lavenders again when in Penzance. Had a nice selection of sweets and also selection of take away at the Deli Counter.

My boyfriend and I popped in for a bite to eat on our last day in Penzance. Walked in, left our bags at the table and went to the deli to chose something to eat. Half way through eating a waitress appeared and seemed surprised to see us sitting there. She was very off hand with us making us feel a little uncomfortable. She left, and then I thought I'd ask if I could have my pie heated up thinking this wouldn't be a problem. When I asked the waitress, she refused saying we hadn't paid the correct price to eat in (ie fee for waitress service). We were not aware of having to pay extra; there were no 'take out' or 'eat in' prices, no signs saying we were to have an order taken. The way this waitress treated us made us feel incredibly stupid for not realising and we felt very unwelcome. So we rushed to finish our food and left immediately afterwards. If we return to Penzance we shall not be returning!! However the food was truly lovely, and the man behind the counter was very pleasant. Its a shame a lovely place has been ruined for us- had it not been for the bad attitude of the waitress our experience would have been much better.

This made me feel sick as I have not eaten meat or fish for over 50 years! The pasty was replaced with a correct one but apologies were not really forthcoming - the woman who served us definitely had an attitude problem! I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
