After a long coastal walk from Mousehole, the cakes and ice cream were much needed. Friendly staff and lovely selection of cakes, they had a vegan option as well which was a nice welcome too. The ice creams were huge. A lovely little cafe in a really lovely location.

We walked from Mousehole to Lamorna along the coastal path and we were ready for a drink and piece of cake. Good selection of cakes and drinks and we opted for apple pie with cream and coffee. Quick friendly service and beautiful pie. We ate outside - looking out to sea - fabulous views. Can be accessed by car if you don’t fancy the walk.

Beautiful spot. Quite a long winding single track road to reach. Limited parking required cash payment in the machine. A nice mix of seating, some benches and some chairs with tables, some of which were under cover and terraced making best use of the viewpoint over the cove. Gorgeous hot chocolate drink and excellent Bombay potato pasty. Quite busy as we were with an open water swimming group who all descended at once but the service was cheerful and quick. A lovely way to spend time in a beautiful location.

Discovered this wonderful little gem purely by chance. Had heard Lamorna Cove was very picturesque so followed the road all the way down. Had a short walk then returned for the best coffees we have had in a while and delicious cakes (warm treacle tart with clotted cream and a chocolate orange brownie) which we enjoyed outside whist watching the sea. Staff were polite and friendly. Highly recommend this spot to anyone

Service was slow and we were "shouted from the doorway" to go and take the tray from the waitress, coffee was expensive and not worth the money for what it was. One price that stuck in mind was £5 for a hot chocolate. Cakes were not covered up. Seating area was tired and damp. Let's not talk too much about the state of the toilets... Due to slow service, also ran over a few minutes on the car park and got a £60 fine from the not-too-obvious ANPR cameras on our return home.

Utterly beautiful location which seemed to be an excuse for charging extortionate prices and providing a very average service We had two crab sandwiches which arrived with a few cold oven chips on the same plate. She said that they had run out of salad. A pot of tea for two with one teabag and two cans of coke with no glasses (let alone ice) Total £43.07. They did bring it to our table! I understand that crab is expensive but it was wholly bland and tasteless and priced at £14.95 a sandwich. My maths is fairly reasonable but how they added the rest of the bill up to £23.23 is a mystery to me. The outside toilet was pretty disgusting. It was in the same building but to be fair may not belong to the cafe. In any case , if they are directing their customers to use it, one would assume they would want it to be clean. The carpark for the cove is priced fairly. My advice is to go and enjoy the beauty of the place with a packed lunch, just like generations of our forefathers have done!

This cafe really needs to pull its socks up! The teenagers working here are surly & the prices are high for what is available. The outside area is quite frankly extremely sad-weeds in the “ flower boxes” & it all looks neglected. The ( singular!) toilet looks like a health hazard, as does the outside tap. It’s a bit of an effort to get here through the narrow lanes… I remember it as being charming years ago but won’t bother coming again.

Lovely cove, great to have a cafe that takes contactless payments. Cakes taste incredible, I tried two but could do with being kept with glass lids to protect from flies and close customers. Crab sandwich was delicious. Ice cream also tasty. Great selection of drinks. Only complaint would be that I think when ordering just a slice of cake or ice cream it should be served to you at the time of paying rather than waiting for someone who’s prepping in the kitchen to do it as the person behind the till is just waiting for the next customer, this would stop people gathering up in the cafe just waiting for food as it’s a small space and also takes up unnecessary time for everyone involved. Will definitely be visitor again though thank you

With a monopoly on coast path hikers, day trippers and families staying locally, this cafe should be doing far better. But our visit today clearly demonstrated why it is not. An overpriced menu for average food, very poor and even rude service, a terribly inefficient ordering system, no cards or cashless payments today, and a poor atmosphere await you. I felt like writing a list of "tips" for their optimistic tip jar (whichI noticed was empty). It would read: 1) Smile! Welcome the folk who have made a real effort to come to this fairly remote place. 4 sullen teenagers serving us make you feel like an inconvenience for turning up. International visitors were given short, bad tempered replies to their innocent queries of what a flapjack was. 2) Sort your system out. Very order (even for ice cream and can of pepsi) is written down on a paper list to be serviced by someone else! Just give us the food as we order it! Unless it requires prep, provide as you go! 3) Microwaving a scone is not the best way of serving a cream tea. Unless it is freshly baked, I'll have it cold! No wonder it took 10 minutes to arrive! 4) If your crd machines aren't working, let customers know BEFORE they start ordering and apologise! Don't wait til the end of their order and point to the sign next to the till! 5) Hygiene - all your uncovered cakes and slices sit out inches from the ever queuing customers (due to the inefficient ordering system), catching their covid laden coughs. PLEASE cover them! 6) Attention to detail: Lined up alongside your wines was bottle of febreze spray! The sullen teenagers mope around the kitchen confusing and bouncing into each other, shouting random orders at eachother. 7) Diversify - you could do so much better by providing pre-packed handmade sandwiches, pre-prepared salads and wrapped cakes will speed things up make life easier. Sell more things for kids on the beach, local Lamorna info and maps, souvenirs and other useful items. She your wifi code for customers. A little business sense goes a long way. Must do better!

Great fresh food menu👍 I had the crab& lobster burger I didn’t want the chips it came with so the lovely young ladies running the cafe offered a salad as an alternative. Visited the cafe just as it was opening one early weekend morning late August. The weather was hot and glorious, the tide was high and sea like a millpond. What a glorious scenic setting … Wow! As the car park quickly began to fill with other early riser tourists our intentions were to simply to purchase late breakfast or brunch and find a spot on the cove below. Lamorna is certainly a popular to visit for a day out. Toasties and drinks were duly ordered to takeout. What was presented was sadly very basic with barely any fillings unreflected in the price. Covid rules still reign at the cafe understandably but I was underwhelmed at its limited food menu. It certainly has the monopoly until it closes at 4 pm but it could certainly draw folk to its destination long after the majority of the beachgoers leave. Missed opportunity perhaps or just happy as they are? Wonderful picturesque setting nevertheless.

Every time we have been here we’ve been grateful for the refreshments after the ordeal of the coastal path from Mousehole but there has always been something to spoil the experience. Usually the price. Like others on this site I have detected a sense that customers are not entirely welcome which I’m sure is unintentional but the monopoly must be influential? I’m not covidphobic and resent the extra little humiliations it has brought to customers of the service industry but you feel they rather enjoy adding a little unhappiness here? This place has stopped bringing food out to your table but the signs still say to tell them your table number when ordering. Instead you get given a little gizmo that will go off when your order is ready. Would be sensible to change the signs - people were confused. Then you go for your food disrupting the meekly socially distanced queue waiting to order. It was chaotic especially for one man whose bleeper hadn’t gone off and it was like it was HIS fault! The food was goodish - a generous crab sandwich and a toasted mackerel sandwich with red onion and horseradish both with a few crisps - but with two 500ml bottles of beer came to a toppy £26. For some reason it’s only outside service still and the food comes in takeaway cardboard. I don’t suppose any of my or anyone else’s comments will make any difference with no competition.

Today Sunday 18th April 2021, we did a walk from Porthcurno to Penzance. We got to Lamorna Cove Cafe at 3:15 to discover it was closed. We had checked the website which said closing time was 4pm. I saw a gentleman in the cafe and tapped on the door just to confirm that the cafe was closed, he just ignored me. This was very disappointing to us as we knew we had a further couple of hours of walking before we got to Mousehole. I have just read the reviews and it is such a shame that they are still running this cafe, especially after the year we've had. This is the first Sunday after 4 months of lockdown that you can get out, the weather was fantastic with lots of people around. I would say to the owners that they need to think of the other little businesses in Lamorna, they need the visitors and you are going to put visitors off coming to the Cove. I would suggest you sell it, you are obviously in the wrong trade. We stopped at Porthcurno Beach Hut before we started our walk, I would suggest you go there and spend your money, stock up on food and fluids and bypass Lamorna Cove Cafe.

About the only thing this dreadful cafe gets right is the strict Covid19 instructions on the white board outside, which lists, in an almost martial way, how you must act and stand on the premises. The place has an air of 1970s Britain about it, both in the cakes, which tasted like they were made back then, and the attitude of the old lady who grudgingly shuffled out to serve us. No words of welcome, just a gruff bark telling us to make sure that we were fully positioned behind the small Perspex screen (none of the cakes were behind this, nor were any of the staff wearing masks, just us). The place itself was ramshackle, with bins overflowing, and the only point at which the woman cheered up momentarily was when she informed us that there were no toilets. Overall, a depressing experience. There’s a sign outside saying rudeness won’t be tolerated. The unintentional irony made me smile. About the only thing that did. Definitely avoid: if you need food or drink, going hungry or thirsty is preferable to stopping in at this dire place.

Most people visiting Lamorna will be walkers needing refrements and toilet facilities. The drinks and cake were ok but very overpriced...I wish I hadn't bothered with this cafe. Went here on a whim, knowing nothing about it before we went. Cove itself dramatic and rocky, bumpy narrow road to access, and private expensive charged parking. Ordered 2 veg soup and fish soup,£14 and £9 respectively. Six half slices ‘Granary bread’ with it,but we got 3 of the heels as part of that. It absolutely felt like the end of that loaf. Soup was at best okay, but I couldn’t discern the advertised crab, nor was it worth £9 which if it had been lovely I’d have happily paid. Veg soup was salty and really uninspiring. Shabby surroundings inside and out, although nice-looking cakes to be fair. My wife had the coffee but didn’t finish it. We had a couple of soft drinks. Total bill £29.50! Wow. Before I read the comments here I felt the whole place had fallen on hard times and the serving lady made me feel that she really wasn’t enjoying things.I was puzzled by the comments on their board about ‘bad manners will not be served’ ,but I think I now know why.It stands out as a very disappointing place also because it is surrounded by totally classy, friendly places elsewhere in the area we visited in West Cornwall, serving lovely food at reasonable prices. Sorry,it’s a real shame to have your overall feeling that you wished you’d gone somewhere else. Nonetheless, the standard in other places is so good that it won’t be long before this visit is just the one place here I’ll choose not to return to.

After paying £1 for parking in the Cove car park, we sat outside on a picnic bench by the cafe and enjoyed a bowl of chips each! Yummy chips and not greasy like takeaway fries, perfect portion size also. Dog friendly and pooches can even come inside the cafe! There was a mouth watering selection of cakes and puds and drinks also available. Prices were normal for this area!

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve been here. Last time we vowed never to come back, but seeing as this is the only spot on the SW path around here to pick up some refreshment we weren’t left with much choice. Being well prepared though, we brought our own lunch (the recommended option on the menu). But bought a cup of tea to watch the usual shenanigans play out. As per usual, the surly staff had about as much charm and charisma as the concrete car park that does its best to spoil this beautiful cove. They routinely ignore you at the till, then drudge around fulfilling orders with the enthusiasm of someone on community service. When you finally get the honour of ordering your overpriced tea you are bluntly asked your table number. Fortunately, I remembered ours. The next customer was not so lucky. Arriving by herself in the car she pleasantly put in an order of tea and cakes. But the grump at the till refused her order until she had her table number. Now considering that this dirge of a cafe had only two customers at this time, this rather officious request seemed a smidge pointless. ‘But no, without it, how would the server find you?’ Argued the lady behind the till. Who also happened to be the lady who serves the food. Her memory must be as short as her temper. The customer gamely carried on. Suggesting that perhaps she could place the order now - after all she had had to wait some time to be served - then she could return later with a number? No. Absolutely not. This continued until the other member of staff, a sullen angst ridden teen with half black half red hair, angrily declared that ‘table numbers first is the policy’. I left at this point. Getting that additional bottle of water didn’t seem worth the effort. But as we picked up to leave, we saw the customer being physically chased from the cafe into the car park by the angry teen. I mean chased. Actually hounded out of the cafe for the temerity of asking for food (albeit not following stipulated procedure). We smiled empathetically at the poor customer as she sped from the car park. We didn’t get the opportunity to tell her that it’s best to bring your own next time.

Stopped here for lunch on a sunny day and sat outside. Lovely quiet port (when we visited) and great atmosphere. My husband and I both ordered Cornish brie and bacon sandwiches. Did laugh when the guys sitting opposite us went to pour their tea out, but no water had been added to their tea pot. Our order went to the wrong table, and then we had to make three attempts at getting cutlery (our sandwiches came with salad). That said, the sandwiches were lovely and we enjoyed our lunch.

I am going to make a promise. This is the last visit until they sell the business! The food has not improved at all. Read my previous review about the place. But also read what I said about the parking. So a little warning for you. They have now installed ANPR cameras so if you overstay your welcome you will pay £100 for the privelage of eating in their cafe.

Previously a lovely cafe in a beautiful location. Visited last week, - appears to be under new management. - Food was very disappointing and over-priced. The crab and fish soup was lukewarm and bore little resemblance to the advertised ingredients, The tables were unclean, the service poor as was the attitude of the staff. The toilets were dirty. Note the time on the ticket machine in the car park - aggressive policy!!

My friend and I have visited here many times over the years and their crab sandwiches and crab soup are second to none, however on visiting today there has been a substantial price hike. The crab soup is usually £6.50 and it's gone up to £10.00 and the crab sandwich has gone from £12.00 to £16.00. The quality is still excellent and I accept they have to make a profit but an increase of over 50% for the soup and 33% for the sandwich is just too much. They have lost a lot of money today because we decided to share a crab sandwich . We also shared the cream tea (plus an extra pot of tea) and we got 2 lovely scones, ample cream but a tiny pot of jam sufficient only for one scone. This was most disappointing. Not sure why they've hiked the prices up that much but I think we shall be eating elsewhere in future unless we win the lottery! One other point... the single loo had no hot water, no soap and the dryer did not work. We were not impressed.

Being "locals" we visit the Cove maybe 2-3 times in Summer, but always when we go, being "locals" we always try the soup. This tme (today) the Fish/Crab Soup was superb, meaty and a little peppery it was nice. also we had the usual fried brekkie things which with the reallygood coffee made the visit, as usual,as we Cornish say "Zakly!" as it should be. :-)Would recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a nice early/late lunch.

Went early January. Death metal thrash music playing which was an eyebrow-raising awful background to such a beautiful spot! Service and welcome was immediate. Order taken, paid and seated. Drinks were prompt but filled coffee mug was somewhat grubby on the outside. The empty tea mug was badly tea stained on the inside and rather off-putting to my companion. Milk for the tea was off and curdled when added to the tea! Very promptly replaced in fairness and apology given. Let's be kind, the cutlery placed for our snack was less than sparkling! Food itself was well presented, fair value(ish) and okay. Transport cafe standard. As other guests arrived and ordered food the cafe filled with cooking smoke and fumes and became rather hazy and choking! If they have kitchen ventilation it wasn't in use! Overall okay but certainly nothing above average. Shame they have no competition to drive improvement.

Not bad decent breakfast and reasonably clean bit pricey for a standard English breakfast, but you do have a great view to enjoy if the weathers kind and you can sit outside.

We were here at the start of a coastal walk to Penzance and wanted to have a coffee before starting off. As we approached the cafe it just had a very strong odour coming out from it of a greasy fry up cafe. Fortunately although not a hot day it was dry and there is the option to sit outside with a sheltered canopy which we did. If we had sat inside we would have taken the smell with us to Penzance! The coffee and service were ok and then we went to use the toilet before leaving.....disgusting I will say no more other than it was the end of September, very quiet so no excuses!

Lamorna Cove is a remote village off the beaten path. Walkers are attracted here because it is on the Coastal Path a very popular 10+ mile walk. The Lamorna Cove Cafe would be a convenient place to stop for drink and/or light meal. But it doesn’t stick to the hours it has posted on the door 10:30a-4:30p. For example if at noon they don’t have enough customers they just close for day. Or sometimes don’t open at all. Very disappointing. I finally refused to give them my business even on the days they were open just on principal. Went to Lamorna Pottery just over a mile away instead at least they were reliable and very pleasant made you feel welcome.

Liked the sound of Lamorna Cove so just turned up, rather narrow road to access it. We did a short walk of part of the coastal path lovely views. After a a walk you want coffee and cake we visited quite a few cafes and tea rooms during our holiday and this cafe had the best selection of cakes of them all, served by a very busy but friendly member of staff.

We were served quickly first with two desperately needed pots of tea then followed by jacket potatoes. I chose the avocado and bacon jacket which was really nice. The salad had a lovely dressing and the meal was well presented. My husband chose the chilli potato which came ‘without the chili’. Sadly no spice to it so a jacket with mince. Also nicely presented with a lovely salad dressing.

We had lunch at this cafe yesterday. We had the best fish and chips ever! And the Apple Pie with ice cream was outstanding! The food was fairly priced and the customer service was excellent. The view of Lamorna Cove from where we ate was also superb!

They made a straightforward error taking an order which involved doubling the amount of food that turned up! This could've been rectified easily but the woman who took the order was aggressive, unhelpful - and cowardly, sending one of the young people who work there to deal with the problem. My other half was quite upset by the experience. As lovely as the view is this has marred Lamorna forever. Long-time lover of Cornwall, but I'll never go back to this cove.

Had a brunch there last month and the view was stunning, the service excellent and the food delicious. Two breakfasts (one vegetarian whith vine roasted tomates and the other a full Cornish) and one waffle with fresh strawberries (lots of ) and ice cream - utterly delicious with good coffee.

It was interesting to read the reviews as I was a little surprised at the heavy handed ‘pay and display’ signs all over the car park and then the ‘private road’ no parking anywhere signs all up the road! I did not realise one person owns all of this and the cafe and it is all up for sale. My lunch was wonderful. I was starving and I had vegetable soup with lovely bread and a gigantic slice of the best chocolate cake I have had in a long time. Service was fine and the loo was clean.

We regularly go to the cove for breakfast and in the past it has been great. Nice service and good value. But this time sadly not. And I suspect it might be to do with the business and Cove being put up for sale.So we arrived at 1145 for what we hoped would be brunch and was told, 'sorry we have stopped serving breakfast now' . However I pointed out that the menu said 'Breakfast served till noon'. They dismissed this as it's the 'end of the season' and they haven't yet updated the menu. There were several people in the kitchen doing nothing and evidently it was too much effort to put a few eggs and bacon in the pan.So I ordered a crab sandwich instead. This arrived in dry old bread but at least the crab was fresh. My partner had a smoked mackerel burger which she said was rather boring. The cove was busy but no one was eating and the menu offered little choice. Considering we are known locals the attitude was unhelpful and off handed. We normally stay for coffee and cake and enjoy the fabulous view before going for a walk. Sadly this time we resigned and hope that our experience next time will be better with, perhaps, new owners. One more thing. The time set by their parking machine is 5 minutes slow. They also have a permanent security presence. I guess they need to keep a close eye on the dozen or so cars in their car park.So the Lamorna clock runs fast for breakfast and slow for parking!

Nice cafe with a view over the cove. We went for lunch today and the service was great, even the BBC were there. Big portions, nice tea, cheesy chips were great, according to my two sons. My eldest ordered a Billionaire Hot Chocolate...... WOW, massive! Maybe better to ask for two spoons, huge. Going back.

Very expensive for what it is!! Dry baguette with ham (tasty ham) and cheese, a bit of salad and coleslaw (not very fresh) and a flat white came to £13.70!!! So stunned at the price I just paid it. I live in Truro and certainly won't be going again!

We visited this pub twice during our short visit as the food was so good and very reasonably priced. On our first visit we had the freshly caught cod and chips which really did look like a whale on a plate. Would highly recommend this place and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
