Took my daughter and granddaughter for lunch. Ordered ham and cheese panini which came with a side salad and crisps. My granddaughter found a very large dead insect in her salad. I took it to the counter to show the staff. They offered to replace the salad but quite fractly it had put us off. There was no offer of refund or any form of compensation. Very disappointing.

Taken here for luxury afternoon tea a treat from my sons. It was delicious. Little cup of soup to start very tasty. Then came the main event. The sandwiches were delicious lovely soft bread and tasty fillings. Potato wedges also a bit of nice fresh salad. Three different types of cake and scones with jam and cream. Staff were lovely particularly the young man who served us and told us he’d made the scones that morning. Really very very nice.

Was a lovely spot, we chose to sit outside to have our afternoon tea. The Tea arrived and looked lovely, i do feel it needed a little sonething extra for savoury selection. There wasn't a big selection of drinks to choose from. Cakes were nice, particularly the lemon cake. No jam came with the scones, just butter & cream, we asked a waitress, who told us they didn't have Jam. Can't have scones with just cream! The waitres asked in the pub, they also had no Jam. Asked if we could box them up to take home. Waitress came with 3 peices of tin foil, told us they had no boxes. Just found it strange they hadn't kept on top of the ordering. Reading other reviews pics showed jam with scones. Would visit again and take my grandchildren.

Firstly, I love supporting local small businesses and I can promise you this is the only bad review I have written in all of 2022, but I have to be honest and say I would tell you to avoid this place. We booked breakfast with Santa and was rang a week before to pay upfront via bank transfer which we wasn’t made aware of at the time of booking when we had to pay a deposit. We arrived and had to queue outside in the cold for 10 minutes. When we got inside they had given our table to someone else. Another 10 minute wait and they moved them but they also took the colouring for our children and the crackers which they had already opened and the staff didn’t replace. It was awfully cramped, the childrens breakfast certainly wasn’t as advertised and the adult ones where shocking. The originally told us on arrival it would just be toast egg and beans because the oven wasn’t working, we the recieved a small amount of terrible egg, cold toast, 1 slice of bacon and 1 sausage and freezing cold beans. I contacted the owner after our experience and was offered a voucher for our experience but we do not live locally and was just visiting family for Christmas. I explained this and asked for a partial refund but sadly got ignored. I really wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Staff were very pleasant and acknowledged us as soon as we came too the door. Cafe is quite small inside so the waitresses were quick to serve people waiting by the door and the covid regulations meant that nobody was able to enter and look for a table without pre-booking,payment was made at the table which meant we had a lovely undisturbed afternoon tea without feeling rushed. Food was lovely and fresh (one of the nicest afternoon tea we have ever had.

I had a bad experience here today. The blonde waitress was very rude. After ordering gluten free, they put crisps made in a factory that uses gluten over my poor sandwich, I politely pointed this out. I have Ceoliac disease and cannot tolerate any cross contamination. The waitress came over 4 times to argue with me that the crisps were fine. I was with 4 other new friends and it was very embarrassing having to explain my medical condition. The crisps did not say gluten free on them, and I’ve been ill before eating those crisps. Very disappointing service, go somewhere else!

I do not normally leave bad reviews and im a firm believer of supporting local, but sadly a warning is needed to others on this occasion. 6 of us were booked in for afternoon tea at the cafe. I could have gotten over the poor cake to savoury ratio (waaaay more cake than sandwiches), the fact that our table was cramped and the very slow service. But what I found inexcusable, esp in covid times, was the lipstick on a cup served to us and the lack of mortification when we pointed this out. We barely got an apology. The table was far from sanitised/clean, the staff didn't wear masks despite mixing between tables and I didn't see any regular use of sanitiser/washing of hands by them between tables. Also, despite being pre told that we had a pescetarian with us (more than once), they still mixed all the meat sandwiches touching the non meat. This isnt fatal but does show a lack of regard to dietry requirements so if you have an allergy I personally wouldn't trust that it's been taken on board even if you pre order/mention it. If you don't care about slow service/ proper hygiene, then the cakes were really nice. Apart from that... I wouldn't recommend. I won't be going back.

What possessed me to visit this place again I will never know. The staff are useless, slow, unfriendly, can’t be bothered and thanks to COVID what was already really bad is now absolutely terrible! I queued outside for 30 minutes for a slither of cake in a polystyrene box and a can of lemonade £5, it was practically thrown at me with no cutlery, napkin or glass! I was then told by the REALLY useless waitress that I had to put my own rubbish in the bin as they couldn’t touch it. I did but the bin was overflowing and nowhere near where I was sat. They clearly don’t want customers. It’s a disaster, not to mention filthy! Never ever again!!!

Had to request the prosecco be served but was advised it wasn't cool enough yet ...then having been in 45 minutes thus far ... they had forgotten pescatorian sandwiches had been requested for one of my guests . Service was slow and where we were sat it had a mass of old crumbs wedged in the table joints .. not from previous diner either! Rather off putting to say the least especially during this covid time. It's ok for a cuppa and a cake but I wont be ordering afternoon tea there until it shows better hygiene and service standards. Shame as it is in a prime location and setting.

Attended a pre-arranged group event. Seating arrangements were not adequate for the numbers booked. As I arrived slightly belatedly there was no where for me to sit with the group other than in a very tight corner with no room for movement. I ordered my a bagel, cake and coffee and after 15 minutes had to get a friend to check where it was as I couldn’t get out of the corner without several other members having to leave their food and move. My bagel arrived 10 minutes later ... no coffee, no cake. Again I had to get a friend to see where the cake and coffee were and again waited another 5 minutes to receive the coffee, but not the cake. When I asked a member of staff collecting used crockery from the table if I could have my cake she responded that I wasn’t ready for it. Although the venue and environment has so much to offer for individuals, couples, families, friends, groups and businessesI’m afraid I won’t be returning in any of these capacities.

As an organiser of a very large local social group we visit a lot of establishments for meals and afternoon teas. Nornally up to 20 members can attend any one event. I always research a venue and make the necessary mutal arrangements with the manager in advance for bookings. It is very rare that we are disappointed with a place and the service, normally we will make return visits many times over.On the 29th December 2019 I had such a group meetup arranged with the venue. On arrival we were advised by the junior members of staff left to run the cafe that day, that our booking had in fact been cancelled by us. This was not the case, however the manager later admitted that there had been some confusion on their part between staff which had resulted in this situation. After sometime and some upsetting discussions we were eventually shown to seating in the adjecent venue - The Mill. where we managed to salvage the day and continue with our chat. I followed up with meeting the manager to discuss this and was offered a return visit with a discount for the group. A young member of staff had disrespectably reacted rudely towards one of my members, who is a lovely polite retired gentleman - he refused to set foot in the place ever again.I decided to give the venue another chance to show they could provide a good service as I would like to return with my members again and again.Yesterday, a group of 18 revisited. We were shown to our reserved table - a count of 17 seats and at that cramped into a corner of the room at a right angle. It was very distresssing again for my members, squeezed in to small spaces, backs to each other and one member actually left after ordering and paying for his coffee because he was upset with not having a seat. I have to say at this stage that the booking was made for 19 people.Service was very slow. there was another party present and only 3 members of junior staff again.I was surprised to see the young girl who had been rude on our last visit. Thinking she was no different in her attitude I didnt make any comment to my group. However, members who had not been to the previous visit and were unaware of the situation, commented on her attitude whilst serving them. We will not be adding this venue to our list of 'do it again' establishments having taken a majority vote from the members. So sad when the location has such a huge potential.

I visited Lakeside Coffee House this Sunday with my husband. The setting is lovely and we were going to order food but the wait time was half an hour so settled for cake instead. We waited behind one person while she chatted away with the staff member about her family etc, clearly seeing there was a queue. Once ordered we sat on comfortable sofas but they were packed in and difficult to get to. Our coffees came and the waitress dropped the jug of hot milk all over the table, my legs and suede boots. She then said "I knew that was gonna happen"! If she knew why didn't she take more care? Also, no apology at all. I was offered blue roll to mop my boots. Of course the boots are ruined and we didn't get so much as a 'kiss my arse'. Needless to say we will not be going back!

Hadn’t been to Charnock Farm for years. When it first opened the standard of the food in the restaurant used to vary from visit to visit, from excellent to mediocre. On a sunny afternoon this week it seemed like a good place to go for coffee and cake. The setting is very nice and I can see why it is so popular with people with young children but the food served in the coffee bar was just ok. The coffee bar itself is very cramped and rather gloomy but there are tables and chairs outside where you can sit and watch the ducks while eating. My slice of cake looked nice but tasted rather stale. The place seemed to be run by very young staff who were efficient but hardly welcoming - a bit of staff training needed there. Initially visited this place for afternoon tea with friends when it first opened and was very impressed but unfortunately, it seems to have gone firmly downhill since then. This time I popped in with my daughter for a coffee and a cake and my first thought when I entered was how unclean it looked, particularly the carpet. We sat on a sofa near the a window which was the only table free and which had used spoons, serviettes etc from the previous customer and proceeded to put my hand into some spilled ketchup on the dark wood table - at no point did anyone offer to clear or clean up the mess, they all seemed more interested in talking to each other behind the counter. I was even less impressed when ordering, or should I say interrupting the conversation the girl behind the counter was having with her co-worker resulting in me having to repeat myself twice when she missed what I'd said and to tell her when she got the wrong cake from the cabinet. It's a pity really because both the cakes and coffees were good albeit somewhat overpriced. Suffice to say, I won't be back.

Disappointingly we were told the coffee would be brought over, after near ten minutes I had to go ask for it. Then another five minutes for the food.Food wise, I've not had a bad meal here.Be specific if you want crispy bacon or easy over eggs. The portions aren't large so if your hungry then order extras. We took lots of photos and bought 3 from the photographer. There was unlimited tea and coffee and a delicious breakfast ranging from bacon barms to pancakes with syrup. We all loved it, thank you!

Went for Xmas afternoon tea. Have been several times before and enjoyed it. However what a let down this time. Lukewarm soup, sandwiches, one potato wedge and one pigs blanket . Sweet overload sponge cake, mince pies, scones, Xmas cake. In fact 2/3 of the tea was sweet. Not very seasonal. Shame really

Having been here previously and enjoyed it we took our friends for breakfast. It wasn't at all busy and we placed our order straightaway. A waitress then started hoovering around the tables and around us, very off putting. The drinks and breakfasts arrived at different times and we had to ask for salt and pepper, sauce and cutlery. If it is a help yourself service this should be clearly communicated as the waitress showed her irritation at the multiple requests by slamming the requested items on the table. The food was below average, undercooked bacon, tiny portion of mushrooms and, freezing cold toast and gristle in the sausages. Will not be returning.

Been this morning Dec 9. The coffee and cake was very nice, the big let down was dirty tables, dirty floor, and it just did not smell very nice. A visit to the loo was not very nice, dirty smell dirty wash basin and two end of toilet rolls on the floor, my husband said the same about the gents.

Popped in to this cafe for a coffee and a chat with a friend, to be nosy I flicked through the menu and was slightly disappointed by the sandwich and lunch options. The cakes are also very basic looking and are definitely not homemade. I ordered a latte and was dissatisfied by the quality of the coffee. The staff bring the orders in a very strange manner and the drinks all came separately by different waitresses.

Visited this morning with my wife and son. The room was busy, but we managed to find a small table that was almost clean. Upon ordering 3 breakfasts I was told there was a 25 minute wait. That turned out to be 35 minutes. When the food arrived it was luke warm, portions not great and for the cost we expected better.I've got to say we won't be back in a hurry. They have good competition not far away on Buckshaw that is much, much better, better/cleaner facilities and you get more for your money.

This place has the potential to be lovely but it can't handle a busy day. After waiting for 25 min for a green tea I went back in to request my money back as I needed to leave. I was told to wait in the line and the girl on the tip would sort it out. I have to leave should indicate I done have time to wait three parties deep in a line for £1.70!

Visited this place for the first time last Thursday 08/09 with my wife and children. Was tidy on arrival and we chose a comfy sofa seat and looked through the menu When I went to order at 12.10 the girl on the till informed me breakfast finished at 12 however said they could make baps for us. Instead we ordered something else which we were fine with - it was our mistake for not checking and the girl on the till was helpful. Our food arrived in good time and was great- value for money and you could tell it was all fresh. However at around 1pm a male perhaps early to mid twenties came into the shop and sat at a table next to us which was filled with paper work. We prosumed from this he must be some form of managerial role. He proceeded to eat a full english on the table next to us with another female member of staff who we hadn't previously dealt with running back and forth for him.I tried to catch the eyes of the girls behind the counter to query this but by this point they were rushed off they're feet. I completely understand if a boss wants a breakfast you make them a breakfast we've all been there- however as a paying customer wanting breakfast and being told no and having someone eat one next to us an hour later it is a little frustrating. By all means I enjoyed my experience, the staff enjoyed their jobs and you can tell they work hard to build a great rapport with customers. I simply think a business with so much potential in beautiful surroundings shouldn't be let down by things like what happened to us which is why I've had to leave an average review.

Called in for lunch with my daughter on Thursday 25th August. The table we sat at was absolutely crammed with the previous occupants dirty crockery. We moved the crockery to the edge of the table neatly and waited for one of the many staff members present to move them. After 10 minutes of staring at these dirty plates I went to the counter to place my order. I try to place my daughter's order but was told by the server they were out of garlic mushrooms. There must have been 5 or 6 girls behind the counter but we still had the dirty crockery on our table. Surely a fundamental part of catering is the welcome of a nice clean table. I looked on the carpet near our table and it was absolutely filthy with food all over it. I appreciate that lunch times are busy but this was after 1.30 and there were a number of empty tables. I actually saw 1 customer clear her dirty table herself and place the crockery on the counter. This is such a lovely placed but totally ruined by the lack of hygiene and disinterested staff. We left without placing an order and went to the Avanti Garden Centre a very short drive away on Wigan Road. Spotless table and excellent service !

I've been here several times, both with children and on my own, and as yet have never been disappointed. There is limited seating indoors but reasonable for the size of the place and ample seating outdoors. The food is good with decent sized portions and served pretty quickly even on a busy hot day. The ice cream is delicious and they are always changing their flavours. The attraction of a walk around the large pond and seeing the various pets is good for children and the garden centre is a nice area to visit too. They have expanded again recently to include a bar and extra seating and the facilities seem to change each time I visit but only for the better.

We visited this coffee house on Thursday morning (4th Aug). It is a small log cabin type coffee/eating place with around 10 tables and soft seating areas There is a normal breakfast selection (various combinations of bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, beans etc)The first issue was seating. On arrival with a party of four adults and two kids at just after 9.30 there were around 8 tables free. But only one had places for 4 people alongside a table for two. Unfortunately both of these had reserved signs. However, the reserved times were for 11am and 1pm. So we sat there It is not waitress service so we chose our orders and went to the counter. Only when getting there did one of the 5 young teenage girls decide to tell us that we would need to move tables. When I asked why (due to times) she said the people who had reserved may come earlier...So I asked for a solution to allow 6 people to sit together on two tables elsewhere. The girl looked at me blankly. I then asked if the reservation had been for a table or that specific table. When they checked amongst themselves it was for a table. Bro the reservation signs were simply moved. So after this drama I placed the order. The first and main request was for soft eggs to be provided. It was made implicit on ordering that they had to be soft. We ordered the various combinations and drinks. The cost was far from cheap (averaging around £6 per adult then £4 per child). Plus drink the total bill was just over £40Just after ordering we were then informed there would be a wait.. As some scones were being cooked in the oven.. So around 20 minutes passed and food began to arrive. Immediately there were errors. My eldest child had ordered a small vegetarian breakfast which was listed to come with two hash browns. Only one. When I pointed this out to another teenager she gave a bored apology and said she would get another. The toast (five sets with one set white the rest brown) were delivered. But despite ordering correctly two sets of white toast were brought. When this was pointed out and a brown set requested the server asked if we would have the White. We would have, but then the the toast was burnt to a crisp. Completely black. So this was to be replaced. Then the classic and dare I say expected. Eggs all hard in the centre. Everyone. So I asked for these to be replaced on my plate About two minutes later my plate arrives back with one re fried egg (soft) and one of the originals hard...By this point I gave in.The food was decidedly average. All in all a very poor experienceCompletely uninterested staff and poorly executed food.

I've driven past here many times and decided to go for lunch on a Sunday. Signage for getting into the cafe could be better as I walked straight past it!Plumped for the pulled pork baguette with stuffing and apple sauce. Ordered, as it was quite warm we fancied a cold drink - no diet options available (my husband is diabetic and I hate the sugariness of pop) so it was a choice of water or hot drink. Not a great start, but not uncommon unfortunately. Sandwich came - it didn't look the most appetising, black bits, fairly dry pork (stuffing was probably the nicest freshest part!) Apple sauce out of a jar I suspect. Served with a very sad looking salad (fortunately I don't eat salad!!). For £7 it was a bit disappointing. Sitting outside was lovely when the sun came out, watching the animals, the only reason it gets 3/5. Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, Derby House in Wrightington is much better value and quality.

We used to be regulars to The Coffee House, but as 2 of us only have soup at Lunchtime the Tomato/Mediterranean was a little repetitive. So when I saw it advertised Mushroom was the soup of the day we returned. To our amazement there were plenty of seats, usually there is a wait. We ordered the soup and sandwich combo. And as in previous reviews we waited a while for the drinks, my latte was more milk with very little coffee, eventually the soups arrived but disappointing. The wrong bread for myself and the soup, way too much pepper. There were 5 young girls behind the counter which baffled me to the long wait we had. there was another couple who received there drinks separately and their sandwiches. The Man had finished by the time his Wife received hers. And I strongly object to staff behind counters that are dealing with food, eating and literally swigging from bottles, this is most unhygienic and not one of them washed their hands after. A little more staff training I'm thinking

As a breakfast regular I am a aware that you have to wait around 30 minutes for food so wasn't surprised when I was told that this morning. However, the drinks only arrived after 40 minutes!! 40 minutes for two coffees is simply not acceptable! And they were wrong (small instead of the ordered large). Breakfast finally arrived after 50 minutes! The table next to us received the wrong breakfast order and the table opposite the wrong drinks! They had lots of staff working so I presume it was just a case of poor organisation. It is such a shame as we live locally but we will be trying elsewhere for breakfast for a while.

This was our 3rd or 4th visit to Lakeside in the last 2 months. On arrival (11am) we were told that food orders would be around 30 minutes. We accepted that, and placed our orders for food and drinks.11.30 and no drinks, we asked at the counter and were told we were next. We then watched 3 or 4 tables get served their drinks, and still didn't receive ours. When eventually we did receive them, they were wrong. 5 minutes later and we got the right ones.11.50 and we FINALLY received our food, 1 X large breakfast and 1 X Scrambled egg on toast. How it took 50 minutes to prepare this, I have no idea. There were 8 staff working and there seemed to be zero organisation, we watched 2 other tables receive incorrect drink and food orders as well as watching a chap and his family get turned away for breakfast at 11.58am when the time on the menu clearly stated 12.00pm - the time wasn't the issue as much as the cost to the business being 4 breakfasts, 4 drinks and more poor reviews on trip advisor.Come on management, pull your fingers out and get some organisation.

20 minutes to order 4 sandwiches with only 3 people in the queue in front of us.(possibly because they were rethinking orders due to non availability of menu choices?) no chicken so we chose again -no garlic mushrooms so asked what we could have with the mozarella instead. -no mozarella either. eventually settled for third option tuna melt and just 2 ham and cheese sandwiches. and a bowl of potato wedges -no wedges either. Sandwiches ordered -all come with salad and coleslaw. asked for 3 without coleslaw. sandwiches arrived with coleslaw on those ordered without, and, no salad on the ham and cheese ones, just 2 slices of toasted bread with ham and cheese arrived for £5.65 each ! Filthy floor, no cutlery brought or dressings etc, 50 minutes to get food and cost just under £30 for 4 sandwiches and 4 cans of drink, We won't be rushing back.............

Like walking into a nightclub the music was so loud. Sulky staff had to be asked twice to turn it down. Then after 15 minutes we had to ask if they were serving food. 25 minutes later without eating we left. Everyone who came in after us got served whilst we waited and waited and waited and …….
