We parked in Hawes with the intention of finding somewhere for a cup of tea and a cake. After walking around we came across Laburnum House and it said 'Open'. We waited where it said and someone came out. I asked if the did cream teas and was told they only had one portion of clotted cream left. We said that was fine. We waited a few minutes whilst a table was cleaned and then went to the ordering point. There was a card machine away from this point for you to pay. We were told our order would be brought onto a separate table for us to then collect. We had a decaf tea and regular tea and they both came in decent sized teapots. The food was brought out and we were told about the locally produced items with my scone. The jam, butter and clotted cream were all local produce and it was all very delicious. My husband had a Yorkshire Scallywag(?) cake and he said that was delicious too. We were very happy with our choice and will go there again if in the area.

Lovely little cafe in Hawes Village. Friendly staff and a nice selection of local food. Try a Yorkshire Scoundrel, aka Fat Rascal. Very tasty. Excellent.

The Wheatsheaf in Wensleydale

28/10/2020: The Wheatsheaf is a lovely, friendly 'gastro' styled pub in a stunning part of the Yorkshire Dales. We elected to sit outside as the pub was experiencing a busier than expected lunchtime with good grace and good humour! The beer was top notch - an excellent pint. Food-wise, the sandwiches with side salad were good. The Steak and Ale pie was pleasant enough but effectively just a very liquid beef stew with a slice of, very nice mind you, short crust pastry. It seemed pretty clear that the 'pie' filling and pastry had only just been introduced!A lovely pub nevertheless!
31/08/2020: Managed to get on outside table for Sunday lunch over bank holiday when passing by. Lovely food, friendly staff and well organised. If you are interested... apparently James Herriot if All Creatures Great and Small honeymooned here.

Sandpiper Inn

17/10/2020: Although I was a solo diner, I was treated superbly well, not rushed, although there was a limit of time on the table. The Covid regulations were set in place, and I really enjoyed the fayre. It’s so difficult at the moment for the hospitality industry, but I wish all at The Sandpiper well in the coming months.
27/08/2020: This is a lovely small restaurant providing quality food and drinks at affordable prices. They are complying well with Covid precautions. The staff are very smartly dressed, efficient and friendly
