Kuti's Brasserie in Southampton

It was our first visit to this restaurant on 4th November 2024 for dinner. We went to celebrate our sons 8th birthday. Thought it would be a good evening however it was ruined and we left disappointed. We had asked twice to play a birthday song. No one bothered. Just after paying bill while going out of the door one team member asked if we want the birthday song we said may b next year. The food and drinks were delayed . So everything was disappointing. First and last visit must say.

This looks lovely from outside but we wouldn't return. This isn't the restaurants fault but you have to pay for parking which the minimum is 5 hours (we didn't need 5 hours) I think was just over £6.00. As I said not their fault just a heads up. We entered the building and someone came to see us, no 'good evening' or a 'hello' we were greeted with a very rude 'do you have a booking?'. When we said yes the guy couldn't find us, we then showed him our confirmation email. He still couldn't find us. He then walked over to someone else and started talking to them, but again no 'give me 2 seconds, I'll be back'. Just walked away from us. He came half way back to us and then half shouted 'Yo, follow me'. Seriously?! We are your customers! A simple 'please follow me' would have been good! We were then seated and after about 15/20 minutes the same guy came over and took our drinks order, again he asked in a rude way, not a polite way. He then left, promptly, but didn't ask if we wanted and starters or poppadoms. We had to wave him down again to ask for poppadoms, but it was like we inconvenienced him. We asked for 2 poppadoms each, when they came they were all crushed up in a basket. Not the biggest deal just didn't look great. They tasted fine and the chutneys/onions were fine too. He then came over to take our mains order. I asked 'how big are the portions of curry, as we may share?' his response was 'Not sure depends how hungry you are'. I do not expect him to know the exact size of portion but it was the way he was speaking to us so so rude! and may sound silly but the whole time he was leaning against the booth, where we were sitting, in a way he couldn't be bothered with us, and we were taking up his time. Food came. It was ok. It was edible. Chicken had strange texture to it, and I ordered a tikka which was very creamy and tasted more like a korma, again not a big deal but would say to people be mindful when ordering what curry what they would like, if you want a bit of spice maybe go for a madras. My sister had the madras but I thought it was more like a tikka. I think the food was very over priced for what it was. We all agreed the food was very bland and didn't have much flavour. Service was awful! So rude! You get tastier food at a better price and better service at the competitors.

Fantastic food, very flavoursome, fantastic service, highly recommend this restaurant. Not expensive and Very picturesque too.

Great food and friendly service for 14 guests. Would definitely recommend a visit. We asked the staff to choose a mixture of dishes. They were all excellent.

Really strange, since the recent closure and then immediate re-opening under ‘new’ management standards seem to have slipped. 15 mins after sitting down order was finally taken for drinks and food. Starters and poppadoms ordered, poppadoms arrived in some sort of crush up fashion that I’ve never seen in any curry house ever. Chutney, yoghurt etc. barely filled and only one portion between 6 people, of course we were charged for two though, lovely touch by Kutis. Then began the hour wait for our starters, however after asking Kutis where they were several times, no apology just “they’re coming” they must have decided we were really hungry and arrived with the main food. No apology or discount on the bill when it was presented. Hopefully when the place changes management again in a few months they turn the place around.

Lovely music Excellent food The violinist was amazing and created a really lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be returning!

Great food, friendly service and really reasonably priced. Don’t be put off with the car parking we parked just along the road for £2.50 for 2 hours. Really worth a visit!

were were staying in a local hotel near the cruise terminal and because we wanted to watch someting on the TV we ordered a takeaway . It was excellent and they threw in the cutlery and popadoms , Next time we will book a table , highly recommended

What a great experience The food was delicious but the outstanding part was the attentive staff. We were looked after by a waiter called Moh Ali and he went above and beyond to make sure we had everything and even booked us an Uber on his own app. Thank you- great evening

We booked for a table of four a guy wearing blue shirt brought with big glass wearing tie took us inside without proper way of greeting.(Never seen him before).Despite the other waiters greeting other table well with good smiles and with good service. My daughter hopes older staffs to take order but the same guy came to took order without any proper knowledge and disappeared . Food was best as always. Happy to meet kuti over there. Will come back again in coming week especially for food. One request to kuti please give proper training to new staff.

Really enjoyed our visit to Kuti's at the weekend. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was busy, yet relaxed, the meal was good value and the service attentive. The owner came and spoke to us, he was engaging and interested in our experience. All in all, an excellent restaurant.

Sadly, The End Of An Era.... Poor, very very poor! My family and I have been going to Kutis for 30+ years starting back when it was in Oxford Street and then onto the Grand Pier. Food had always been excellent but over time small cracks have started to appear. We noticed that the take away menu had been removed and on visiting the restaurant last night the menu had changed from what used to be a superb range of dishes containing house and chef specialities to what is now a lack lustre A4 piece of paper with a very basic menu. The waiting time for the starters and the subsequent main meals were painfully long and once we were eventually served the dishes were extremely bland and luke warm. The naan breads were over cooked (we noticed an Indian family on an adjacent table inspecting their naans and shaking their heads!) It was really disappointing to be honest, usually I'd have complained but we just wanted to get out. Come on Mr Kuti, you used to be the shining light of Indian Cuisines in the city but sadly things are going down hill drastically. 😔 A reluctant 1 star

Waited over an hour and half for main courses ( i imagine if we had ordered starters and desserts we would still be sat there now ) . No drinks order taken so waited at the bar for 10 minutes , while a poor very stressed waiter rushed around . The owner needs to employ more staff, I felt very sorry for them. The waiter apologised when he bought the food , you could tell he had said this many times . Over priced very average food , £15 just for a curry not including the rice . 5 pieces of chicken in the tikka masala ! The vegetable biriani was £20 , nothing special. The menu is also very limited . The place is not geared up for big groups , there were lots in . It’s a shame as it is a nice venue . Dear owner please employ a decent amount of staff for the bar and the restaurant. Would not recommend or visit again . There are lots of great curry houses in the city , this is not one of them .

We didn’t actually eat here. Let me tell you why. This restaurant was recommended to us by people in Southampton and is in quite an impressive building, so we were looking forward to going. When we arrived on a Friday evening at 7.45, having pre-booked, the downstairs part was closed. We were ushered up a narrow staircase to an upstairs restaurant, which wasn’t very inspiring. The waitress gave us a photocopied one page menu sheet and told us it was their Winter menu. It didn’t have many dishes on it, but the waitress said if we wanted something specific, they would try to produce it for us. We asked for a wine list, but when we chose a bottle from it, we were told that the only red wine they had was Rioja, one of the dearest on the list. Also most of the wines on the list professed to be “Harrods” wine. We were sitting by the window, which had lights around it and they suddenly started changing colour! It was like being in a fairground! We got up and left and a waiter asked where we were going, but wasn’t really that interested. All in all, it was very disappointing.

Food very average, lots of better places to eat in Southampton where the restaurant has atmosphere but more importantly the greedy owner at this restaruant does not share the tips . We asked two members of staff and they confirmed they wouldn't get any tip we left. This made all our food taste bitter. Shame on you !!

Just avoid!!! The food was wasn’t great below average. Staff not interested to busy taking to each other. My starter arrived 15 mins after my party had started theirs no apology. Save your self you the trouble there is far better out there.

The staff were excellent, they were attentive, the service was also excellent. Our food was beautifully cooked, the portions were generous, the food was flavorsome and tasty.

We had really been looking forward to visiting Kutis for some time. As a Birthday treat we got a babysitter and planned a nice evening just the two of us. It all started very well, great service order taken very quickly and starters out in reasonable time the prawns were great, the monkfish was ok. We then waited 2 hours for our mains! Two hours between starters and mains. When 1.5 hours had passed we asked where they were and we were told to "take the opportunity to have a conversation with eachother". Honestly how rude can you be! We had other reservations 3 hours after our Kutis reservation so we needed to be out by 10pm. Our food then arrived, it was cold as if it had been sitting for a while! In addition the rice was wrong and we were made to feel it was our fault when we absolutely ordered correctly. We sent it back and left. It was a dreadful experience and ruined my Birthday celebration and rare night out with my husband. Its over priced for ok food a real shame and disappointment.

The welcome was lovely with a free glass of Prosecco. We had a nice booth to sit in which was comfortable. Staff were, friendly, helpful and attentive. I did feel that the leaking hole in the roof was an eyesore and the lighting too bright, the DJs music didn’t seem to fit the environment (I really feel that there’s some brilliant Indian dance music that would have been fun) the dance area again needed to have more ambient lighting. The 2 drummers looked like they were really good but were playing alongside music which was way too loud and drowned them out - they really should have done some without the music. Our food was average and I thought the fireworks were provided by the restaurant but we were led out by the 2 drummers on to Mayflower Park and it was a free for all ie anyone seemed to be lighting fireworks. overall l felt like £60 per head was expensive for what we got and I was left feeling a bit disappointed.

Service was appalling. Took over an hour to get starters and another hour before main course turned up. Food was ok at best. Poor quality mains and not sure the chef understood the menu. Used to be great but owners and staff don’t seem that bothered. Drinks too were overpriced and avoid the watered down cocktails

The food was nice but their customer service is non-existent. We visited for my girl-friend’s birthday. The food was quite nice and I would have recommended going back again. However, their customer service after I telephoned the following day to make a complaint, and their complete lack of reply afterwards, despite phoning & emailing several time, is shocking and leaves us feeling that they just don’t care about the customer experience. Perhaps it’s because my partner is black? I complained because before paying nearly £100 for the meal and drinks, we asked to take the leftovers home. When I asked for the bill and asking where the ‘doggy-bag’ was, the server looked shocked, walked away and the manager came back several minutes later to say they’d thrown it away. She didn’t apologise and didn’t initially offer to replace. They replaced a lamb shank on the vine. which is one of their more expensive dishes, with a bland takeaway curry with 3 pieces of meat and some rice!

In this day and age, and after lots of bad press about restaurants, normally chains, about the staff not getting a share of the tips, Kuti's must have missed it. The food was pretty good, the staff were efficient, the setting, lovely. I always ask the staff in every restaurant i go to if they get the tips, i was dismayed to learn that in this restaurant they don't get anything. It is not a cheap restaurant, and it's been going for some time, so it must be profitable, SHARE THE TIPS WITH THE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR YOU.

We visited here while staying nearby the night before boarding a cruise. We’ve seen this building many times when here but never really considered it. However seeing the reviews on here we booked. Firstly I have to mention the staff. Lots of them and all so friendly and efficient. The menu choices are varied from simple curries to more elaborate dishes. My other half is vegetarian and he had plenty of options. He had a paneer curry as a side portion to start. This was delicious. A good sized portion, beautiful flavours and lots of paneer. I had Onion Bhaji. There were three large ones on the plate, light, crisp and probably the nicest Bhaji Ive had. Both starters had a fresh salad on the side. I had the Chilli Chicken for main and he had the aubergine and coconut curry. Both dishes were excellent. Both tasted unique with nicely balanced spicing. I avoided the whole chilli’s in mine and really enjoyed it. We shared a mushroom pilau and a peshwari naan, the latter was my other half’s highlight of the meal. We had some poppadoms as appetisers which were light and non greasy and came with free accompaniments which was nice. It was hard to resist filling up on these. Overall we agreed it was probably one of the best Indian meals we’ve had and will definitely be back.

We chose the restaurant for a birthday lunch. The food was delicious. I would recommend the Murgh Malabari but all the dishes were superb. The service was fantastic and they made our lunch a special occasion.

The food was delivered 35 minutes before the requested specified time slot. The chicken (Chicken Kadhai) was overcooked and not edible. Very disappointed with the service and quality of food on this occasion.
