Krispies in East Devon

We've been to Krispies on hundreds of ocastions and never disapointed before but on Thursday 18th April the chips were cold and the fish was greasey. Come on Krispies don't let your standards drop.

My meal yesterday was again two sided , I ordered reg cod and scoop of chips and handburger with lettuce and onion. Both were delicious.

When I was at Exmouth I ordered here Fish & Chips and it was not bad. But in Germany we say: Besser geht es immer!

We rang before they opened got order in and got to straight to front to pay and service was fantastic and great to see old friend not seen for year's serving us! Food was absolutely lush and worth waiting for, in the car from the rain So worth the wait and we ll be back when we visit Exmouth again Battered sausages and battered chips and normal chips so yum and not greasy either 😋

We all know krispies is the best in the south West if you havnt tried it it's a must wilst in Devon

Been using for the last year an a half, As All Humans are not perfect, Got to say we had a few blips, not many, But on the good side these people have got it RIGHT especially if you use the app, my last visit over this Easter 2024 I have never seen so many servers, all working as a team ordered my Fish n Chips for 5.35 walked out with them at 5.38. fresh Hot and crispy batter, Now That's better than Mc Donalds so called fast service, so after a few blips, you are back on track with the service and food , keep it up , because you ARE SIMPLY THE BEST>

Used the app and ordered at the Exeter branch (second time). The veggie burger was excellent

I made a pre-order for Mother's Day the day before for myself and my daughter. Katie was very polite, understanding and friendly over the phone. The food was exactly as I ordered (no lemon, neither salt or vinegar), hot and delicious! It was also delivered on time. On Mother's Day, restaurants are always so busy and have very fancy and expensive menus, so I thought a fish and chips takeaway from Krispies would be a real treat for this special day in the comfort of our home :) Thank you!!!

The wife ordered using the app, whilst we bought the kids to the car from the seafront. Once paid for the app indicated a time which we arrived at krispies and the food was ready dead in that time. The food was hot fresh and delicious as always just perfect after the sea air.

Krispies is without question one of the best fish and chips shops I have been to. Regardless of the many awards it has received (and there are many) for me the proof is when I’ve tasted them. Every single time, the staff are brilliant, the food is fabulous and I keep going back there time after time. And will continue to do so even though it’s over 30 miles from home! Quality is worth the effort. And Krispies is quality.

I'm really disheartened that I've got to write this review as I've had a lot of people recommended Krispies in Exmouth to me, we were in Exmouth so thought this would be the golden opportunity to try. I would first like to start by saying the staff were very pleasant and courteous so the star review has nothing to do with them as they were all great. I ordered the battered chips with cheese and a double bacon cheese burger and my partner ordered the scampi and chips (traditional) we drove to the sea front to eat and were just disappointed with the portion size to start with I understand it's a regular size portion but seemed more like a small portion for the price of it aswell, to top it off my battered chips had no cheese that I paid an extra £1.55 for the burger however was very nice and hot. My partner asked for salt and vinegar and a wedge of lemon but again when we stopped to eat she had none of these things, it's the little things that make a difference with a meal or a takeaway and we just feel really deflated cause we were promised big things from friends and family alike with their high recommendations of Krispies sorry but on this occasion I have left 2 stars.

Soggy pale battered sausage, dry chips, portions very average price very high. Service was very good but the food let it down. It was a Monday lunchtime, not very busy, but won’t be returning.

We always pre order the food as they are always so busy. Works well and good hot when collected, sometimes ready, sometimes not, but will only wait a very short time. Best fish and chips, friendly staff. So well organised.

Well there was a bit of a queue but I can't think why, these people are in the rip off business. At least 50% more expensive than elsewhere in the town. I will not be going again.

Have used for a couple of years now and the quality of the food is consistently high. The staff are efficient and friendly and always helpful. I believe that they're not the cheapest in town but the little bit extra is well worth it. My pre orders are always ready on time and fresh. Any queries are promptly dealt with by the management. This place claims to be the best chippy around. At first I was skeptical because the amount of times I’ve been into a kebab shop named best kebabs and been horrifically let down is unmeasurable. Due to my wife having food intolerences, I ordered her a grilled cod, no batter, should be perfect. It wasn't, fish was incredibly salty, so it had been coated in something, we don't know what, as their website has no mention of anything added to grilled fish. We would like to know what it is. My meal of fish and chips, I must admit was very tasty. Just a shame their website has no mention of any coating to a plain fish.

Wow, just loved the food from here. Takeaway, everything was piping hot and tasted lovely. Staff were friendly and service was fast and efficient. Thankyou.

Thank you to the lovely girl who brought salt and vinegar down to the beach for my three year old and I when they forgot to add it. Over cook batter chips under cook sausages not please

Have to say, after being to a lot of fish and chip shops around the UK this has to be one of the best, if not the best one I have been too. Well done guys!

For me the best fish and chip shop in the local area. You can have normal or extra crispy fish and chips. They've got curry sauce, mushy, serve teas. There's a handy couple of parking spaces beside. Excellent. And lovely people.

Went to this fish and chip shop as recommendation from a friend but unfortunately was bitterly disappointed as the batter on the fish was soft and the fish was undercooked and as for the so-called battered chips well if you just scraped off a chip you would have probably had as much batter in size as you would have if you cut the end off your little fingernail . I wouldn't recommend to any good friend especially if I want to keep them as a friend - Nuffi said

Best chips in the country, krispies has won rewards to prove it. Portions are very generous. Love the unique battered chips.Loving the special of battered pigs in blankets theyare doing for xmas 😋. Everyone who comes or lives in Exmouth(also in Exeter) needs to try krispies 😊

Last delivery fish in with chips even asking specifically for them to be wrapped separately. Unfortunate and second time it's happened now. No lemon with fish either. Other food was good, but kind of spoiled meal.

The food is lovely but some better practices are desperately needed as we couldn't eat our food! A family of 3 ordered on your click and collect system. Two of us are vegetarian and ordered 1 x reg chips each. One of us is not and ordered cod. These were all separate on there, we did not order the cod and chips, and yet when we opened our order found that one of the chips had been put in the box with the cod!! It was covered in fish grease and we couldn't eat it. Please ask your staff not to do this!!

I've had fish and krispy ,chips from krispies ,since they've been open....,my last visit ,was last night, & the consistency, of the golden batter /flovour /golden battered chips ,never tasted any different , that makes an excellent fish & chip Shop , highly recommended MH

The battered chips and customer service are excellent but chicken is bland and not even battered and taste less which is disappointing . One of the top performing shop in exmouth .

Quite possibly the best fish and chips I've ever eaten! Battered chips were absolutely delicious, cod was hot and crispy, curry sauce was gorgeous, none of this watery rubbish I've had in the past from other shops. Staff were on top form too, smiley and friendly service during a busy Saturday lunchtime, well done all. Would recommend to anyone Can we get a Krispies in the Torbay area please?

Firstly me and my wife were not greeted in a nice way from any of the staff at Krispies. We ordered from a lady who was rather abrupt. However this is understandable as she was probably concentrating and probably not meaning to be. However, from when I placed my order this member of staff named James was hovering around giving myself and my wife dirty looks. This made us feel uncomfortable. Also he was going around distracting chefs, who were also working with hot cooking oil! I get the impression his job was supposed to be boxing and bagging up the meals when they were ready. Nevertheless, James was more interested going around bragging about to other members of the workforce what he had done the night before. This then resulted in the order being delayed due to other members of the workforce being distracted by his immaturity and lack of professionalism. He was not even closing the lid to either of the chip scuttles or the windows to the fish rack despite them containing food in each of them. Eventually my order was ready and prepared by James, who was rude and arrogantly shouted "here sir!". I thanked him, took our order and left. He didn't even acknowledge me or my wife when we took the order from him. Sadly, the problems didn't stop here as thanks to James' carelessness our food was stone cold! The fish was swimming in oil. There is something seriously wrong here. With the staff and the food. It will be The Proper Fish & Chips Co for us from now on!

Had a battered Haddock absolutely fabulous, my wife had grilled Haddock again fabulous as were the battered chips and curry sauce. Just wish they could sort out the system for inserting the the promotion discount. Can never get it to work

Owners are rude and obnoxious. Staff are overworked and treated like slaves. Food was not terrible, although much nicer place just up the road called Proper fish and chips - highly reccomend!

Came in person on a Saturday night and they were pretty busy, both with in-person and online orders. We shared the large cod, the haddock, and 2 orders of chips for the 3 of us. The battered chips we delicious as well as the side of curry sauce. We ate it immediately and it was great!

The only Fush and chips I keep going back to.. came at a busy time as a walk-in. 5min wait to order, was told that it will take 5-10min to collect, which was accurate. Fresh, tasty and great service.

Krispies has always been an Exmouth legend and definitely for good reason. Unfortunately, since winning their award, prices have shot up and portion sizes have dropped, but what you get is nearly always of good quality and enjoyable. We ordered click and collect on this occasion which was ready on time. The food was hot and freshly cooked. The chips were nice and crispy and the fish was really nice.

The food was excellent, I would highly recommend it. Best to order online and collect, as the shop can get busy during dinner time around 6 to 7pm. This was around a ten minute wait, which was quite good as they are well organised. I ordered 3 box meals with mushy peas tomato ketchup and homemade tartar sauce and a box of cod bites.

With a plaque on the wall proudly announcing that Krispie's was the UK National Fish and Chips award winner in 2019, you would think you'd be getting a great meal. Unfortunately, a bit like my favourite football club Manchester United, former glories do not always accurately reflect on current form. Interestingly, some recent reviews on TripAdvisor suggest indifferences and I wish I had seen these beforehand. I wanted a pie, my son wanted cod roe. Guess what - Krispie's doesn't serve either. This is the first Fish and Chip shop that I have ever been in that doesn't serve pies, surely pies are a staple of Fish and Chip shops? As for the cod roe, the server didn't have a clue what we were on about and we eventually got an abrupt shout of "No" from the background. No pies or cod roe, but you can get that good old traditional Fish and Chip dish of squid rings!! The place was packed, which usually means that there is a good turnaround of food, so to get back and discover cold, overcooked and what looked like reheated chips was extremely disappointing. Likewise, £3.90 for a large portion of chips, with the "large portion" being very questionable, seems very expensive. The two saveloys were underwhelming and both were split - does this indicate overcooking, same as the chips? My son decided to try the squid rings and wish that he hadn't. They were coated in a hard, breadcrumb sort of coating which he didn't enjoy. To be fair, the haddock and mini cod that we ordered were both good from a fish perspective, but the batter was awful and very greasy. The cost for the "pleasure" of this dining experience was a few pence under £30. Certainly not cheap, or what we would expect from an award winning establishment. But then again, after watching Manchester United recently, former glories do fade after a while - although at least they still serve pies at Old Trafford!!!

Multiple people recommended we try Krispies especially the battered chips. We weren't convinced but gave them a go and so glad we did! Fantastic fish and chips, good portion size, not greasy and the battered chips are amazing. Curry sauce is also the best we've tried. Would highly recommend.

We come to Exmouth every year but have never had Krispies. Most definitely the best chips I've ever had. I had a mixture of normal and battered chips and they are amazing!!! We had a large order so waited about 10 minutes for the fish to be cooked fresh and the shop was constantly busy and to no surprise. There was TVs on the wall telling you what boat and where the fish that day had been caught. I couldn't believe it when they said to a customer that his order was going to be a little longer as the fish broke and they never wanted to give him a broken piece of fish so they done a new one ! Excellent service and amazing fish and chips !!!

Amazing food as always hot and fresh. If you order via the App it's alot easier as you never know how busy it's going to be on the door so saves hanging around. Also battered chips with cheese is an insanely awesome combo.

Brilliant food as we all know. Portion sizes have got smaller over the years as well as prices going up (price I understand). They really do lovely food but if you're after a huge portion for the money then I'd go to a different place

Excellent - we'd been advised to try the battered chips and they were incredible! I had squid with them (I'd already eaten some before the picture 😂) and that was great too. Can thoroughly recommend this place!

1st time I've been to Krispies. Have to say it's delicious. I thought fish and chips were all the same but these are absolutely delicious. I had a medium cod and chips, it was just enough for 1 person and it tasted really light and non-greasy. I will definitely go again. Me and my friends ate in, although I think it's more takeaway, (there's only a few window seats). The staff were very efficient and worked like a well-oiled machine together, especially considering how busy it was in there. Very impressed. I can see why they are award winners.

Overpriced, fish greasy, small portions- disappointing- Not as good as they used to be!

Just ordered two large portions of traditional chips two savaloys and a batted sausage for delivery came to £19.60 . I phoned to ask if I could put some tomato sauce on the order but was told I would have to pay cash when the order arrived unfortunately I didn’t have any cash just my card , so unfortunately I could add it on the order . When the food arrived Barely warm , the chips tasted dry and stale like they were refried 🤮 this chip shop has gone down hill badly I’ll never order from them again!

Picked out Krispies after seeing good reviews online. Great chippy tea with them. Nice atmosphere with shop. Friendly and patient staff. Queue when ordering on weekend evening so recommend ordering online for collection if you can. Really nice portions of fish for decent value too. Battered chips and homemade tartare sauce really delicious too! Recommend getting mix of traditional and Krispies chips for both battered and non-battered taste. Whether in Exeter or Exmouth, this is a great chip shop to go to!

My mum is a huge fan of the battered chips my brother prefers the chippy down the road I don't want a family dispute .I will say I'm not a fan of the queueing system in the chip shop. They claim to have invented the battered chip and if it's true then it's really an amazing achievement it should be more widely acclaimed. There's always a good number of people in the chip shop and that means it must be pretty good. I'm delighted this small business is succeeding and the town has not completely succumbed to the drivin McDonald's

Visited here yesterday with some of our service users. Staff were fantastic, lovely, and friendly. The food is great. I wasn't sure if I would like battered chips but I tried some and they were lovely. If you haven't tried battered chips, I recommend giving them a try. Will visit again soon

Bit of a wait but it was Saturday evening. The wait was worth it. Used to like their fish and chips when I lived there 25 years ago. Now if anything even better. Battered chips are to die for. Bought then ate on the seafront.... Perfect. Don't be put off by a queue... Wait, it's worth it.

I was very disappointed to find that they charge 25% more on food being delivered as well as £2 delivery charge We had 3 meals and the additional cost was £8.90 more than if we had done click and collect !!! Next time will drive and fetch myself as not happy with extra costs!!

It was a busy lunchtime, and everyone was having fish and chips, so I had to wait 15 minutes for my food. I had a box meal, plenty of chips, and the mushy peas were delicious, just a little disappointed with the size of the fish portion.
