Krispies in East Devon

We were staying in the area and after asking a taxi driver which was the best place for fish & chips, we were told here. On arrival (we drove there) the shop looks very modern, clean and like the pictures. There were a few people already waiting but we were quickly served, everyone seemed friendly and they appeared to have a good system in place! Considering the people before us and the selection we ordered, the wait wasn't too long. There were more people coming in and looked like collecting orders. The menu has a good variety & we went for a selection of bits to make up a meal. To feed a group of 3 with (I think!) 8 different options is was around £26 which isn't bad at all- they had a F&C meal offer which I think was about £10 also. The homemade onion rings were SO good! I'm guessing it would be a 5+ min drive to the beach from here, not sure walking distances as we were only in the area for a few days. We were happy and would go again if visiting again! Lovely place. I get it every now and then when I visit Exmouth. Absolutely amazing food, good portion sizes for the prices and very welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend

Great Fish and. Chips at a good price

Terrible waste of money here. Chips were dreadful, it seems they haven't a clue how to fry fish or chips. Perhaps someone should be training these kids they employ.

It's a good fish and chip shop if a little overhyped in my opinion. The battered chips are an unusual menu item although I found them to be a bit too much for me. Place is very popular and there's always a queue. It's not cheap but is in line with other shops in the area. Staff are very efficient even when it is very busy.

The hottest thing about our 2 portions of sausage and chips was the mushy peas the rest could have done with a zap in the microwave - completely over rated. Shop very busy and had to wait a long time due to pre-orders and then the staff started having a “discussion” which was very entertaining! Would not rush back I am afraid.

Disappointed with my haddock tonight, 30th August 2024. A very small fish received and lots of uncooked batter inside. First time I've had a very poor piece of fish. Hopefully, someone will respond and assure me?

Probably the best Chippy around. Only negative is it's always so busy and I always forget to do Click and Collect

Great place to get a fresh fish and chips. And the battered chips is a must try with the curry sauce and the packing is well thought out.

I used to be very fond of this place. However my most recent visit has been nothing but disappointing. The squid ring appeared to be undercooked judging by the colour and texture (cooked squid should be white instead of translucent). When we attempted to contact Krispies by email and social media we received no reply after two weeks. I think they’ve just become so arrogant with all that fame that they don’t care about customer service any more. Sadly won’t be returning anytime soon I’m afraid. Update: tried to contact Krispies about this but still no reply after over a month.

Extremely efficient service! Delicious fresh fish, plenty of sauce given in their pots, great value on the kids meals. We sat & ate it in the car on the seafront after a day at the themepark! Perfect!

I've given 2* for the batter on the fish, what has happened to this place. I just paid 15 pounds for the smallest portion of chips and pretty average 'large' cod.. This used to be great, but seems as ever got greedy... Won't be coming again! My child would be able to eat this portion..

Slogan of smile with every service should be changed because absolutely every person working there looked miserable not one smile in the place, wasn’t busy service so that’s not an excuse and thought the food would be a redeemer but it wasn’t, stale chips, and flavourless fish wouldn’t recommend

A super busy chippie but the battered chips are just amazing. We had a large portion and the pea fritter was delicious the gravy and curry sauce were also game changers!! We did wait a while after ordering to get our order around 20 mins but considering the amount of people in the shop they did a grand job. Super efficient team and Thankyou it was delicious.

A great, and obviously very popular, fish and chip place in Exmouth. The food, undoubtedly, was five star - not quite as great as one or two Northern chippies we could mention, but certainly close. Though who decided that battered chips were a thing? They're NOT! Only small gripe, we did wait circa 20 minutes after placing our order as a succession of internet orders were prioritised. Not the end of the world, but a better processing system would help.

Partner had the box meal and I ,the haddock and good portion of chips .complimented the fish was lovely.

Always busy but order on the app and usually only a short wait. We did that recently and then got stuck in traffic so the staff called me and said they were keeping it warm for us. Great service and great chips! Burgers and fish top notch too!

Krispies is always our go to but tonight the fish was a bit soggy and chips a little overcooked. Good but not their usual standard.

Excellent Wednesday evening gluten free fish n chips. Ordered on the Tuesday and ready and waiting at 5 on the weds. Mini fish and scoop of chips was more than enough to fill me up.

Ordered for pickup 29 minutes before and was ready right on the nose, despite being very busy.

Hadn’t been to Krispy’s for a while but we fancied 2x haddock & 1 chips between us! Have to say we were very disappointed ☹️ The batter on the haddock was sludge in the middle ( not cooked) & more disappointing was that one side of the fish had soggy skin on it…why batter fish that still has skin on it…not pleasant!…if that’s how you serve it then let the customer know…I would have asked for it to be removed first. The traditional chips were average. It was super busy with orders going out for delivery …seems as tho quantity of orders may be more important than quality 🥴

The best fish and chips we've had in a very long time, nicely presented, and served by a very friendly smiley girl, who obviously loves her job.

Called for a portion of battered chips to take away, they were awfull, dark brown in colour and tasted either burnt or dirty oil, could not eat them, disappointed, will not be going there again

We ordered a large amount of food for a birthday meal and had it delivered. What would have cost £60 if we had been able to collect actually cost us £80 to be delivered which included a £2 delivery charge. OBSENE. We had 3 x children’s meals which for collection were £4.95 but for delivery these were £6.45?! The food was lovely but those extra charges are disgusting. Hopefully this information is helpful to others as we certainly were not aware of the huge added charges at the time of ordering. So disappointing.

This place was probably the most suggested takeaway for me when I asked locals in Exmouth where to go, particularly the battered chips. I got some battered chips along with a curry sauce: the curry sauce was lovely, but the battered chips weren't great. By no means were they disgusting, but they were absolutely nowhere near as good as people had been making them out to be. Very disappointing to say the least

My partner was recommended Krispies from someone in Exeter who raved about the battered chips. Read some reviews and their menu and all I can say is just wow. We placed an order via the online ordering system as the shop was heaving at 8pm on a Sunday. Worth every minute of the wait and the online ordering was a breeze. When collecting the order the staff were lovely and in terms of watching them work as a team was pretty impressive. Great smells and really well packaged in sustainable boxes. The food was sublime. I get that the draw for some is the chips but as awesome as they were they were outshine by the simply amazing fish. Beautiful; fresh and the perfectly crispy batter was only bettered by the actual taste of the fish. Not the batter, not the oil but the actual fish itself. It has to be some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had the pleasure of eating.

We have been having Krispies for years really nice and consistent but the last three visits I hate to say it have been very disappointing the chips were awful black and had to throw alot away its not cheap and it's putting us off comming again.I hate to say it but we have spent alot of money over the years

Best fish and chips you can get in Devon are from here. Perfect portion size and great battered chips I'll always happily go out of my way for them

The staff are kept really busy, it's always packed here. The food is lovely. You will need to be prepared for a wait though.

Amazing fish and chips. You can tell the fish is super fresh and the batter is so light. Usually I feel sick about half way through a portion of fish and chips but I demolished this one

This place won 2019 in the fish and chips awards and having been there, I can certainly see why. The battered chips are incredible, and we enjoyed the others things we got. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely plan to visit again next time I find myself in Exmouth.

We've been to Krispies on hundreds of ocastions and never disapointed before but on Thursday 18th April the chips were cold and the fish was greasey. Come on Krispies don't let your standards drop.

When I was at Exmouth I ordered here Fish & Chips and it was not bad. But in Germany we say: Besser geht es immer!

We rang before they opened got order in and got to straight to front to pay and service was fantastic and great to see old friend not seen for year's serving us! Food was absolutely lush and worth waiting for, in the car from the rain So worth the wait and we ll be back when we visit Exmouth again Battered sausages and battered chips and normal chips so yum and not greasy either 😋

We all know krispies is the best in the south West if you havnt tried it it's a must wilst in Devon

Been using for the last year an a half, As All Humans are not perfect, Got to say we had a few blips, not many, But on the good side these people have got it RIGHT especially if you use the app, my last visit over this Easter 2024 I have never seen so many servers, all working as a team ordered my Fish n Chips for 5.35 walked out with them at 5.38. fresh Hot and crispy batter, Now That's better than Mc Donalds so called fast service, so after a few blips, you are back on track with the service and food , keep it up , because you ARE SIMPLY THE BEST>

I made a pre-order for Mother's Day the day before for myself and my daughter. Katie was very polite, understanding and friendly over the phone. The food was exactly as I ordered (no lemon, neither salt or vinegar), hot and delicious! It was also delivered on time. On Mother's Day, restaurants are always so busy and have very fancy and expensive menus, so I thought a fish and chips takeaway from Krispies would be a real treat for this special day in the comfort of our home :) Thank you!!!

The wife ordered using the app, whilst we bought the kids to the car from the seafront. Once paid for the app indicated a time which we arrived at krispies and the food was ready dead in that time. The food was hot fresh and delicious as always just perfect after the sea air.

Krispies is without question one of the best fish and chips shops I have been to. Regardless of the many awards it has received (and there are many) for me the proof is when I’ve tasted them. Every single time, the staff are brilliant, the food is fabulous and I keep going back there time after time. And will continue to do so even though it’s over 30 miles from home! Quality is worth the effort. And Krispies is quality.

I'm really disheartened that I've got to write this review as I've had a lot of people recommended Krispies in Exmouth to me, we were in Exmouth so thought this would be the golden opportunity to try. I would first like to start by saying the staff were very pleasant and courteous so the star review has nothing to do with them as they were all great. I ordered the battered chips with cheese and a double bacon cheese burger and my partner ordered the scampi and chips (traditional) we drove to the sea front to eat and were just disappointed with the portion size to start with I understand it's a regular size portion but seemed more like a small portion for the price of it aswell, to top it off my battered chips had no cheese that I paid an extra £1.55 for the burger however was very nice and hot. My partner asked for salt and vinegar and a wedge of lemon but again when we stopped to eat she had none of these things, it's the little things that make a difference with a meal or a takeaway and we just feel really deflated cause we were promised big things from friends and family alike with their high recommendations of Krispies sorry but on this occasion I have left 2 stars.

Soggy pale battered sausage, dry chips, portions very average price very high. Service was very good but the food let it down. It was a Monday lunchtime, not very busy, but won’t be returning.

We always pre order the food as they are always so busy. Works well and good hot when collected, sometimes ready, sometimes not, but will only wait a very short time. Best fish and chips, friendly staff. So well organised.

Well there was a bit of a queue but I can't think why, these people are in the rip off business. At least 50% more expensive than elsewhere in the town. I will not be going again.

Have used for a couple of years now and the quality of the food is consistently high. The staff are efficient and friendly and always helpful. I believe that they're not the cheapest in town but the little bit extra is well worth it. My pre orders are always ready on time and fresh. Any queries are promptly dealt with by the management. This place claims to be the best chippy around. At first I was skeptical because the amount of times I’ve been into a kebab shop named best kebabs and been horrifically let down is unmeasurable. Due to my wife having food intolerences, I ordered her a grilled cod, no batter, should be perfect. It wasn't, fish was incredibly salty, so it had been coated in something, we don't know what, as their website has no mention of anything added to grilled fish. We would like to know what it is. My meal of fish and chips, I must admit was very tasty. Just a shame their website has no mention of any coating to a plain fish.

For me the best fish and chip shop in the local area. You can have normal or extra crispy fish and chips. They've got curry sauce, mushy, serve teas. There's a handy couple of parking spaces beside. Excellent. And lovely people.

Went to this fish and chip shop as recommendation from a friend but unfortunately was bitterly disappointed as the batter on the fish was soft and the fish was undercooked and as for the so-called battered chips well if you just scraped off a chip you would have probably had as much batter in size as you would have if you cut the end off your little fingernail . Last delivery fish in with chips even asking specifically for them to be wrapped separately. Unfortunate and second time it's happened now. No lemon with fish either. Other food was good, but kind of spoiled meal.

The food is lovely but some better practices are desperately needed as we couldn't eat our food! A family of 3 ordered on your click and collect system. Two of us are vegetarian and ordered 1 x reg chips each. One of us is not and ordered cod. These were all separate on there, we did not order the cod and chips, and yet when we opened our order found that one of the chips had been put in the box with the cod!! It was covered in fish grease and we couldn't eat it. Please ask your staff not to do this!!
