Frydays Award Winning Traditional Fish &Chips in East Devon

I visited the restaurant alone and enjoyed cod, chips, peas, and curry sauce. The cod and chips were freshly made, crispy, and great quality. The curry sauce was spicy and the peas tasty. The service was attentive and courteous. All in all, a really good experience, and from observation, well supported and appreciated by a steady flow of local customers.

Amazing fish and chips. Thoroughly enjoyed them. The staff seemed great and helpful.

2024 update: After abstaining from going in here for some time now, partially because of my previous & also because of the owners consistent retaliation to any form of negative feedback (which is both unprofessional & unnecessary?) thought only fare to update, I do always try to be objective & impartial in my reviews. Really pleasantly surprised & happy to report that it's back up there where it was in my opinion...... Staff were happy, professional & attentive. Place was clean & tidy & more importantly the food was really good old fish & chips?! No complaints at all & I would consider now worth the money & we'll worth a visit if your in the area. Really glad to say this as was (as below) sad that it had gone downhill. So pleased to have it back on the list of places to visit when in the area well done to everyone there. Must just say it was pretty quiet when we were there so, hope they all maintain the standard all the time & keep it where it should & needs to be. ______ ______ Been here lots over the years. This week was our 1st return post COVID etc Food is pretty good, not the best we've had & has gone up circa 50% I'd say? I really do get that with the state of the world currently. However, if you're going to charge top wack (we are talking higher end chain prices here now) you do need to back it up with slightly better food & certainly better service? - lots of orders were getting messed up, including ours which does happen, but they weren't that massively busy & please don't lie to cover up the error; then the bill shows the error & the cover up!.... Been around to long to not know when I'm being fed a line?! Just be honest no one will overly mind. In my opinion the place was lacking direction from the younger staff. They needed managing & a bit of direction & leadership? Would make a pretty good fish & chip restaurant to the excellent one it was many years ago & bring people back to it

Really good tasty and fresh fish and chips friendly helpful staff. We had a mini cod and chips which was far from mini so make sure you’re hungry if you go here🤣 I would happily pay the same for a smaller portion. The small chips was also a good portion.

We wanted to eat fish and chips on the beach on the last night of our holiday in Seaton and Frydays Traditional British Fish and Chips looked like the best place to buy our food; it’s a very short walk to the beach. There’s an eat in and takeout part and the takeout has areas for walk up and phone in. The food was prepared fresh, after our order, so there was a bit of a wait, but they provide space to wait. A fair number of people came in to order their food as we waited and several were clearly regulars. The cod and chips that I had were very good, hot and crisp. The chips were a very good colour too. Several other groups on the beach were eating fish and chips from this outlet.

We visit quite often, the best fish and chips for many miles around. Lovely clean shop and restaurant with friendly staff. Takeaway or table service restaurant available, all excellent menu, very good quality and value. Unbeatable!

A great fish and chip shop in the centre of Seaton. Reasonably priced. Choice of takeaway or sit down. Staff were friendly and service was very good. The chips are cooked very well and although I was only to eat fish fingers, they were delicious. The chip shop curry sauce was well done and added a bit of a kick to the eating experience. Very much recommended and next time I'm in the area I'll be back. Thank you

We ate in here whilst in the area on holiday and have to say what a great place. They do gluten free chips and gluten free curry sauce AS STANDARD! Plus, lots of gluten free options for fish without batter. Everything was delicious. Service was impeccable!

Had take away Haddock from here today, chips weren’t great and it was a little pricey compared to other local places. There is though an OAP rate and some seating which is nice. Haddock was nice enough but not as good as the Chippy in Beer.

Quite a queue so obviously popular...our fish was OK.. batter could have been a tad more crunchy but chips were really good....we had takeaway that's why I didn't rate atmosphere ...but I think it was very busy inside so another good point

Spontaneous summer evening stroll around Seaton, found us stumbling across Frydays Fish and Chips. As a vegetarian I was so happy to see a range of options and I must say their Vegetarian Burger was gorgeous! Plus the chips being GF was a perk as always! Recommend to anyone visiting and would suggest to anyone to enjoy the food sitting by the beach

We are down in Devon on holiday, but this is we’re I’m from so family and friends still live here, decided to all get together for my Birthday (10) people, I placed the order on line, not a problem we were going to sit on the beach but weather was not brilliant so decided to eat in the restaurant, Fridays phoned me to check order and I asked if we could sit inside - not a problem, we all arrived on time table was ready, food was served very quickly, staff were lovely and so was the food.

Fish and Chips are extremely tasty, made to order and wasn’t greasy. Would come back here

Haven’t even eaten the fish yet but the waiting times are not good. How comes you have people waiting in the dining area paying more than takeaways but you prioritise take away more than people sitting down? Make it make sense

It was a beautiful day and we thought let’s have a trip to Seaton. We live in mid Devon so it wasn’t too far to go for a few hours. It was lunch time so we thought fish and chips was called for. Before we had a wander. Walking from the car park towards the sea front we popped into Frydays. As we are now considered senior citizens we plumped for the OAP’s special. Service was fast and friendly. The portion was quite small but we were both full after clearing our plates so it was more than enough. Tasty fish and chips. The restaurant was clean and modern and we would happily return.

This was probably the worst fish and chip restaurant I’ve ever been in in my life. We waited 40 minutes and at least we got our very diluted squash to drink. As well as Restaurant, It was also a takeaway, all takeaway patrons were served before we were. So in the end by paid for our drinks and we left. I could not wait to get out and get home, trouble is I ended up with nothing. I had gone past it.

A lovely find in Seaton. I had the red snapper cooked in butter with side of chips. The fish was fresh and was tasty. It went well with the side of mushy peas. The red snapper was definitely a lighter feel than having the fish and chips. Friends who had the cod and haddock fish and chips enjoyed their meals too. The staff were so lovely and sweet.. I took the name of the girl that attended to us but at this moment I can’t recall it but she was so lovely. If you are in Seaton this place is a lovely place to chomp some yummy fish then take a stroll on pebble beach.

Whilst visiting Seaton last week, I had take out fish & chips, it was delicious. The service was friendly, the food was freshly cooked & could not fault the taste. Would definitely recommend.

Found this shop in the afternoon and went in for fish and chips. Asked for large cod and chips x2. Along with 2 bottles of Coke and a pot of curry sauce it came to £32.50. My friend opened his bottle of Coke while we were waiting for the food and it was flat. Mine was too. He politely mentioned it and asked if it was ok to swap it for a can, as the bottles obviously shouldn't have been sold. The owner said, sorry he couldn't do that because he didnt make the Coke and the money would have to come out of his own pocket. So we had to take the loss. Didn't expect that answer at all. The food arrived in 2 boxes and was just put on the counter. I asked if it could be put in a bag and they said they would have to charge for the bag. They didn't give a chip fork or anything to eat it with and no serviette. This is shocking service. When you spend £32.50 on fish and chips and 2 drinks, it is the least you expect. The girl who gave us our food had nothing to say at all, just ignored us. Obviously wont be going back again.

Incredibly poorly staffed. Behind on click and collect orders. Sadly my fish was seemed poor but chips were never ce. Took 45 minutes to get served.

Not usual for me to leave a poor review of anything but this time I'll make an exception. Had a really nice start to my first experience of Frydays with who seemed to be the head honcho serving at the counter. Seemed a lovely guy until I got my bottle of coke that I'd just paid for, opened it up and took a sip ... it was flat. No big deal, quietly asked for an exchange to which the guy completely changed his tone and told me "well I didn't make the bottle of coke did I!?" ... no you didn't mate but you most certainly sold me the faulty product! He refused to refund me or exchange it which is actually against the law pal and your attitude stinks. £32 worth of fish and chips too! First and last time for me.

I ordered fish & chips the fish wasn’t great and the chips were dry. You aren’t able to put your own salt and vinegar on it’s all held behind the counter, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t cheap either it isn’t somewhere I’d go again. Service was good, helpful and responsive. Nice clean restaurant but no one in it

Fantastic fish and chips and lovely staff. We first visited Frydays when we were staying in Charmouth and we now often drive down from Bristol just to visit Frydays. It's that good! We are never disappointed by the quality of the food and the excellent customer service.

My best friend introduced me to this place. We both enjoyed our meals a lot. Friendly and quick service. My jumbo sausage and chips were hot, delicious and a great portion size for the price. Nice to have comfortable seating too. Can’t wait until we go back again. Highly recommend *****

Ordered large cod and cheesy chips. Cheesy chips was an absolute delight, however I got a very small cod instead of large. Realised that after driving away. Didn’t bother to go back as they were very busy. I would suggest to check before leaving, if ordered takeout.

The worst fish and chip shop in the world! Double the price of our fish and chips in London, saveloy £2.50, cod small £3 we were charged double these prices! The mushy peas were green muck. As a food buisness owner in London it needs to improve for these prices. Most of my food ended up in the bin and in the dog! It looked awful and tasted awful .We also had to wait 30 minutes!

Disgusting! The chips were that bad they were inedible, the fish was covered in a soggy thin batter that was drenched in the most disgusting tasting and very old cooking oil so that was inedible as well. The only thing that I could actually stomach was the piece of cod but that was tainted by the disgusting taste of the oil. The cod was supposed to be large but in any other establishment would be best described as medium. This meal cost me £12.50 and for that price It should have at least been to an acceptable and edible standard. Will never buy food from these people again. The standard of food is just simply very poor.

Found that it was far too expensive for what you get, food was unsatisfying and rather overpriced compared to other chippies in the country. Found staff quite slow and disinterested. took over 20 minutes to get our food. was suggested this place but seems like the staff are undertrained.

Drove over to Seaton today and decided to have fish and chips at Frydays in Seaton. Excellent meal of fish & chips, one was a standard meal the other fish & chips. Fish was excellent, nicely battered, chips had a taste of their own due to the variety of potato sourced from a farmer in Taunton. Food was served quickly even though cooked to order. Would go back whenever in the area and would recommend to anyone.

On my final day in Seaton and I find Frydays. How I wish I had found it sooner. My order was taken quickly and prepared fresh. The variety of fish available was a bonus and I was able to indulge in some hake which was delicious. At 62 years of age, the onion rings took me back to Sunday evenings when my late mum made her own onion rings for our tea time treat. Polite staff, even when another customer proved to test their patience, and great value for money. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and certainly an additional reason to visit Seaton again.

Freshly cooked while you wait, so hot and very tasty. Fish was beautiful and the batter crispy and the chips were lovely too (cleared my plate and I’m not a massive chip lover) with plenty of scraps to crunch on. Considering they’re cooked while you wait, the wait wasn’t long and there was even somewhere comfy to lean whilst waiting. Well worth a visit.

One of, if not the best chip shop in the area, fish is always cooked to order so it's super fresh and crispy every time.

Best gluten free chips in Devon!

We spend lots of time in Seaton over our eight months season and visit Frydays Restaurant every time we are here. Last night was our first time since last November (late due to the lousy weather) and we were so looking forward to our visit. We’re were not disappointed. The fish and chips are as good as ever and the price we paid was the same as last year which is very rare today. Our experience is always made complete by the great service from Vicky. She has a great memory and instantly remembered us from last year. We will be back down in two weeks and will be at Frydays again.

Great fish and chip shop, fantastic fresh cooked food and at a reasonable price.

Enjoyed our takeaway fish, chips, curry sauce and mushy peas. Would certainly recommend this fish and chip shop.

The best fish and chips in Devon!

My husband and I visited today for lunch. We were seated straight away. We night had Pensioners Special meals. Small fish and chips with a hot drink, it was hot and very tasty and we both enjoyed the meals.

Considering the mass of people during the grizzly run the service was swift and helpful, Food was tasty and fresh. Great little fish and chip shop highly recommended

Best fish n chips around. Vicky the waitress and all staff are friendly and our daughter loves coming here. They go the extra mile and the grub is delicious.

We visited on a wet February lunchtime and were warmly welcomed by the server. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children and we all enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and seemed busy with regulars. Only feedback was that it was cold inside with many diners wearing coats!

I have to say I was really disappointed with the fish and chips we got from here the other day. I've eaten from your take away before and been quite pleased but I can't help but feel that with it being off season you're lacking in pride. We had a large chips and a large battered cod and a large sausage. Unfortunately the sausage looked very sad and quite old. And the oil that it had been cooked in was obviously old and in need of changing. There was a bit of a wait but as they also run a restaurant at the same time so you can give a bit with that. I'm a proper Devon/Dorset girl and I like traditional fish and chips- which I feel on this occasion I didn't get. Also the curry sauce? Far from traditional. The service however was lovely, it's a shame. But on this occasion it was a let down. Which I will bring back to my first point I can't help but feel it's because it's off season. Don't forget your bread and butter. Lemon Plaice in Axminster once done the same but they bounced back and they do a fantastic chippy tea. But no seaside view

Been here many times in recent years, both for takeaway and eating in. And always been delighted. It’s busy in summer and you may need to wait a while, but everything is freshly cooked, and that’s a big plus. Service and surroundings are superb and the menu is truly remarkable...huge range of meals available. For us, the best fish and chip shop/ fish and chip restaurant around.

Finding Frydays was difficult as its tucked away down an alley. Large and airy take away and restaurant. Very attentive staff. Lovely fish and chips. Bit on the pricy side. Toilets very very small.

Went here on a Saturday evening. After travelling down to Seaton we were quite hungry. There was a massive queue outside, so thought that must be a good sign.We both had large cod with chips, however the fish was at best medium I certainly wouldn't have said it was large and was really quite disappointing, chips were ok nice and hot.

Sadly for what reason not explained we had a very long wait to place order (eating in) and even longer wait for food. Some of our group had to leave because of parking restrictions. Thought 2 hours would be enough just to get food. Previous visit went much better but took far to travel to risk being dissatisfied again.

Ordered online had a bit of a wait when collecting as it was so busy but then it was a Saturday on the hottest day of the year. The food was excellent and freshly cooked and the staff very polite despite being so busy.

A very popular chippy for good reason. The fish batter is crispy, the fish is succulent, the chips are perfect and as for the battered sausages, well they are lush, order two and keep one for the morning like I do!

Absolutely fantastic fish and chip shop. All cooked fresh so you have a bit of a wait.the two young girls serving were very polite will go again. Everything you eat is all put on a board where it's from even the potatoes the chips had a great taste.

Pricy (read the very fair and open sign about the increase - my comment isn't really based on that) and not particularly anything special, but absolutely filled a gap and the staff were really nice. Rest of group who were with me were also very happy. We'd come again!

Delicious cod and chips, ordered from the takeaway, lovely polite young man serving, although busy didn't have to wait very long, ate them on the sea front, good size portions, very tasty and piping hot.

Very poor cod ,greasy and not large like ordered

Ordered 1 mini cod and chips, sausage and chips and 1 standard cod and chips. It cost just under £27. The standard cod was ridiculously small, couldn't tell the difference from the mini cod, so I questioned the size and they said it was done on weight and normal. I literally could not believe how small it was. I've been a regular here for years and never had a meal this poor from here. The cod was also very greasy, and didn't taste fresh at all. Sadly from now on I won't be returning, and will take my business elsewhere where I can get a decent sized piece of cod. The prices are also now very expensive, and it is not value for money at all.

First time at this place, it won't be the last!! Amazing food and nice friendly staff. The fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 😋 are so fresh and tasty. Don't forget to ask for their homemade tartar sauce. Oh and the curry sauce.... hell yer!! Really good. I'm back next time to try the grilled sord fish and tuna.

Would definitely recommend ordering online and collecting (you pick a time slot) because the place was heaving and those that just turned up had a long wait. Fish and chips were lovely. We ordered large chips because some of the reviews said portions were stingy but couldn't finish them because there were so many. We had take away but there's also ample seating if you want to eat in. Would definitely order again.

What a find! Definitely the best chips I have had in a long while. Try the curry sauce it's proper lush. Top it off with homemade pea fritters, damn!!!!! Well dine Friday's team.

Friendly efficient service in a clean restaurant with good fish and chips. The batter was light and crunchy. Fish tastes fresh and the chips good with a crispy outside and soft in the middle.

Decent fish and chips, but very tight portions; regular chips about half what I'd expect, 50p per sauce sachet, asked for some napkins when 6 of us had ordered didn't even give us one each...
