Kooks in Brighton and Hove

Food here is always top notch, cocktails are beautiful - Natalie especially is so accommodating and lovely to be served by. Her service makes the experience that much better

Kooks is a real throwback. We stopped for lunch during our weekend in Brighton (our first time in the town) and were really impressed. The BLT was tasty, and the chips were excellent and thick - proper pub chips, and just what we were looking for after a busy morning walking from vintage shop to vintage shop. The music was great, the staff were so friendly and the decor was very cool - it was quintessentially Brighton.

We’d read the good reviews and looked forward to breakfasting here but felt somewhat let down. The coffee was good but sadly my full English wasn’t up to the mark, the bacon not crisp as promised and the toast not toasted long enough - I didn’t much care for the homemade baked beans either. My wife ordered poached eggs on toast but the eggs were undercooked and my daughter had to send her smoked salmon ensemble back, she was quite embarrassed as nobody likes to do that but she found it poor and said the salmon was cut far too thick. It’s not something I eat but she orders it everywhere.Maybe we were just unlucky, it can be notoriously difficult to get poached eggs just right (mine were perfect) and the owner correctly removed my daughter’s meal from the bill.

Stopped for cakes and coffees on Monday. Staff were lovely. Cakes were amazing. Nice and clean and COVID safe.

Lovely staff Had breakfast here solo this morning and the staff were so friendly and helpful, mix up with the food but that wasn’t an issue - they were so attentive and helpful and food was delicious :)

He comido mucha salsa holandesa a lo largo de los años, muchas salsas muy pobres bastante ácidas, esto era cremoso y rico. Mi marido tenía los huevos Royale que realmente disfrutó. Absolutely fab full breakfast with kooks twist. Tasty sausage and bacon with eggs and home cooked baked beans. Plenty of veg options. Lovely atmosphere and friendly helpful staff def recommend

Had a fantastic english breakfast here. Sourdough topped with poached eggs mushroom bacon and sausage. Washed down with nice cappucino. Got money off from eat out to help out so even better!

Had a really good brunch here. Waitress recommended Eggs Benedict as ‘The best in Brighton!’ I can’t disagree! Would highly recommend

Pasé hoy a las 11:30. Yo tenía huevos Benedict con corvejón de jamón y mi amigo tenía el sándwich halloumi.¡Mis huevos Benedict fueron absolutamente increíbles! El corvejón de jamón estaba glaseado con sirope de arce y estaba delicioso. We came in for brunch/lunch and were super pleased. The food and the service was exceptional. The coffee was great too. We will be back next time we’re in Brighton. Thanks Kooks.

We came here for my wife’s birthday breakfast. The first part of a packed day of plans. We ordered gluten free avocado smash for my wife and a BLT for myself. We also ordered a couple of Bloody Marys (one gluten free) to start the celebrations. After finishing the fantastic tasting breakfast, we asked our waitress where they get the gluten free bread from (we guessed Waitrose gluten free sourdough) . Then another waitress came over obviously distressed to inform us that they had served normal bread by mistake. It’s lucky that my wife has an intolerance and not anything more serious (I have friends that would have to go straight to hospital) - but she is currently vomiting violently back at our apartment, and the days plans are ruined. To be fair to the waitress who informed us of the mistake, she wanted to know what they could do to make this mistake right. But there was not anything they could do. The catastrophic error was made, and could not be undone. We did not have time to discuss and had to run back to the flat for the inevitable distress. If you are going to advertise gluten free, you have to be 100% sure you have the processes to deliver. It would perhaps help if the staff used a notebook rather than memory when taking orders, particularly at such busy times. This time it has just ruined our plans for today, and meant a birthday of stomach pain and misery. But it could have been much worse for someone with a more serious condition and require an urgent hospital visit. Updated processes required!

We come here at least once whenever we visit Brighton for the weekend because we love their eggs benedict and their coffees. The service is always fantastic and always with a smile.

Stopped for brunch! A fantastic find, top notch food, great service and excellent social distancing practices. Will definitely be back.

Popped in to Kook today for some brunch. We ordered some cooked food and all of us were disappointed with what arrived. I decided not to eat the under cooked poached egg and returned it to the waitress. I then ordered the granola, yoghurt, fruit bowl which arrived whith a disproportionate amount of muesli,( not granola as stated on the menu) with the yogurt, some fruit compote and fresh strawberries. I will not comment further on this! I went to pay the bill and responded honestly to their enquiry of my experience.I declined to pay for the muesli. The staff were poorly equiped to take critisism and dealt with the situation very badly. I was told I was obviously just one of those customers who was difficult to please, a really professional way to respond to a customer. I know when an egg is cooked and I also know the difference between granola and muesli. On a different matter I visited the toilet at approx 1140, the sign on the wall said the toilet was sanitised every hour. The sign had been ticked and signed for 1200 and 1300. I wonder to which day they were referring- certainly not today. I will never return or recommend to anyone.

Waiters literally stand over you with no PPE . Reaching on me. It was awful. Passing stuff to one customer then me without hand sanctioning between. No screes. Some table are not 2 meters it’s a small confined space and they have not bothered to put screens, but at the very least the waiters need to respect customers and wear poe

Tried to have Lunch but unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to. The menu looked really good and we were looking forward to trying the food. We are aware that with current restrictions many establishments are operating differently so we went in and asked if we could take a table outside. We were told that was fine and it was table service so we went and took our seats outside and patiently waited. We were there for approximately 20 minutes and in that time we watched 2 other tables get served and have drinks brought to them despite them arriving after us. We made several attempts to get the attention of the waitress but she wouldn't even acknowledge us. With everything going on a the minute we tried to be patient and wait but having already told staff we were there waiting to be served and trying with no luck to get their attention we ultimately had to leave and go elsewhere. From what I saw the food looked good so I would give the place another chance. Maybe in different times the service may have been better.

One of the best breakfast ever had. The place is located on the Lanes. Staff very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. Highly recommended.

On Sunday morning i popped in for a coffee and an orange juice. i was served a half a cup of nearly cold flat white which tasted more like a latte as it had no strength to it at all. That i can accept, not everyone can make coffee how i personally prefer it. The part that lead me to writing this review was due to be charge around £2.50 for a small cup of what i would only assume is extremely cheap orange juice, similar to what you would buy in tesco for about 50p a litre. Very disappointing and a waste of money. WOULD NOT RETURN.

We loved Kooks! They do brunch from 9 - 5, which is wonderful for people like us who love breakfast at any time of the day. The food was fabulous, served really quickly by friendly staff. The coffee was very good and we will definitely be back. I had falafel, halloumi, poached eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, hummus and guacamole on sourdough - a feast of flavours and beautifully presented. Delicious!My husband has the eggs florentine- superb. Gluten free bread is readily available for those who need it.

We haven’t eaten at Kooks for ages, so popped in for brunch a couple of weeks ago. The service was good - we were quickly seated & our food order taken.2 coffees, a Bloody Mary, bacon baguette & avocado smash in sourdough.I like it in Kooks - there’s a really nice vibe. Food is consistently good. They have good music playing & everyone is friendly.My only gripe is the menu never seems to change & as such I always order smashed avocado on sourdough. Would be nice to see some other things on the menu but maybe it’s a case of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it...

Kooks is an amazing, small, elegant, warm, cool place. Either for coffee or lunch or drinks or desserts, it offers a wonderful range and the most flavourful dishes. Coffee is excellent and very carefully and professionally prepared, served exactly as ordered, with a wide variety of milks to add. The cakes look tempting and homemade and - at least the pumpkin we tried - was smooth, soft, delicious. On a separate visit we had sunny side up eggs with fries on sourdough. Such a simple dish.... such an awesome execution. I could visit again and again just for this dish. Comfort and flavours that cannot be described. Must try. Wines are very carefully selected and they compliment any meal choice. Over and above, in this busy and tiny place the service is quick, warm, friendly, professional, always going the extra mile and musics are perfectly handpicked, a combination that makes one feel a regular from the first visit. The bar area gives the opportunity to chat with the team behind it (when they are not too busy), adding extra familiarity to an excellent experience. Absolutely recommended.

Upon pondering where to have Brunch, we found this on google, and read the reviews. I've been past this place quite a few times, but never really known the style of food they do.Coffee selection is great, we had Chai Lattes which were lovely.Looked at the menu and the price range, thought it sounded reasonable. And for the quality of food, it definitely is!I had Eggs Florentine, the smoked salmon was flavourful and the sourdough was fresh. My partner had the eggs Benedict, eggs cooked perfectly.Staff were friendly. Also, a huge fan of the music they were playing. From Pixies to Weezer. Placebo to Pulp. That made for a perfect atmosphere and could of stayed for longer.Also dog friendly.It goes without saying, I am ashamed I've not been in here before, but glad I've found it. 5* for everything. The service, the food and the ambience.

Delicious breakfast. Much better than the usual “full English”. The homemade beans are a particular highlight. And the poached eggs were cooked to perfection.

Great service, amazing coffee (didn't need sugar - sweet, full flavoured, not bitter at all). My wife's avocado smash on sourdough had a thumbs up though could have been a bit bigger for almost £8. However, full 5-stars because of my bacon sandwich. AMAZING. One of the best I've had. If you love a bacon sarnie get yourself down to Kooks for brunch and get one - tip: add avo to bring it up to new levels of deliciousness.

We were tempted by the Blueberry & Lemon Cake in the window. Paired with good coffees, Kooks didn't disappoint. Nice vibe, speedy service.

Becoming a regular here . I’m going to work my way through the menu ! Today avocado smash with poached egg and potatoes . Firstly the presentation of the food was excellent it just looked so good when it arrived . Secondly the poached egg was perfect and gushed as I sliced into it . A very tasty meal and just the job . Love this place .

What this cafe lacks in free WiFi it more than makes up for in delicious food. My eggs Benedict was scrumptious!

We had brunch in Kooks - I had the salmon with eggs and hollandaise sauce. Was yummy! Lovely coffee and there was a delicious selection of cakes too! Standard brunch prices £8- 12 per meal. Would recommend !

Visited Kooks with a friend on a very rainy day whilst in Brighton for the weekend. It was very busy so sat on the bar stools. Staff were really pleasant and helpful, chatty although they were super busy. The Bakewell Slice was to die for!! A really lovely place to stop and recharge your batteries. If in Brighton be sure to visit!

Great today sitting in the sun , g and t , good coffee and the perfect bacon sandwich , crispy bacon on soft white bread with lashings of ketchup . What’s not to love ?! Add in great service with friendly smiles and it made my day . Worth a visit if you can.

An absolute must to eat at when staying or visiting Brighton, perfect food and service. This place has an amazing menu of creative food, cooked to perfection and generous in servings. The ambience makes you feel like you have been there before even if it’s your first time. Those on the day my wife and I were there, the staff could not do enough, even though it was full and high on activity. Put Kooks on your place to eat – awesome food and really friendly service.

amazing brunch we visited on way to station after lovely holiday in brighton . we were given water brought to us very soon after we sat down without the need to ask lovely touch . we then ordered drinks and food . the drinks came quickly and so did the food . i had a bacon sandwich which was lovely a bit lean on the amount of bacon but it was tasty .my friend enjoyed the eggs royale we had amazing chunky chips to share too . great quick service yummy food and lovely clean toilet facilities . super value for money . will visit again

Wandering along North Laine, the cake display in Kooks caught my eye and beckoned me inside for what was possibly the best piece of cake I have ever had! It was their Lemon and Blueberry Cake - but they all looked gorgeous. The coffee's great, the staff funky and friendly and the artworks are really cool. Pop in for cake or a meal ( they looked yum as well) - you won't be disappointed!

After searching for somewhere to pop in for brunch we stumbled past Kooks after being drawn in by the amazing cakes in the window!

We had eggs florentine & eggs Benedict. Really good with good sized portions. We also bought really good cakes on the way out. Highly recommended

We were looking for somewhere for brunch & were so pleased we found Kooks. The staff were friendly & the food excellent. A great start to the day.

We called in for brunch on a very hot day and were immediately served with nice cold tap water before even ordering. Had one each of their lovely vegan and vegetarian options. The service was really friendly and fast without making you feel at all rushed. We chilled to nice music and watched the world go by for a while. Perfect

The atmosphere was cool and relaxed and we both enjoyed our brunch of poached eggs avocado and chorizo on soda-bread toast with really good coffee.

WHat a chilled and relaxing environment, this place provided on a hazy Sunday morning in Brighton. The day of the visit seemed lik a mix of 'student types' infused with a 'cool crowd' out for brunch after post Saturday night fun. A wide range of food selections catering to all tastes including the aspiring vegans and vegetarians. Greta cakes to die for. We will be back!

It's not always easy to find a place where you can order breakfast food after 2pm so this was a key point for us to stop at Kooks. I opted for the vegetarian breakfast (falafel, fried halloumi, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, hummus, avocado, sourdough toast) and I am glad to say it was very yummy, definitely one of my favourite vegetarian breakfasts out there.

My girlfriend & I came here for brunch recently. There is a narrow corridor with tables on one side & on the other side there are a row of stools lined up along the pass & bar but it then opens up at the back to reveal a light & airy space where we sat. I chose the falafel, haloumi, poached eggs, hummus, mushrooms, tomatoes & guacamole on sour dough & my partner had the avocado smash, feta, mint, chilli & poached egg on sourdough with some extra chorizo. Both were delicious & the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The waiting staff were all very friendly & attentive. If I had one minor niggle it was that after ordering, we appeared to have been forgotten & when our food was finally brought to us it was possibly not as hot as it should have been but thankfully the food & the flavours made up for this minor issue. Another great brunch place in Brighton.

First of all, Brighton has so many vegan options so to actually choose a place to sit down and eat breakfast is a task in itself and such a hard decision!

Visited here with my boyfriend for brunch and it was excellent, lots of choice on the menu, friendly service, good value. The food was really good, I can recommend the halloumi sandwich and my boyfriend had the full Breakfast. Coffee was also really good too!

We haven't eaten breakfast at Kooks for ages, so we popped by on saturday for a spot of brunch. It was so busy!! the cakes in the window looked fab but we were after something more substantial - which is exactly what we got!

This is surely one of the best places I have visited in Brighton the service was exceptional and the food was extremely tasty and original! Well done Rebecca x

I've visited twice now for a little brunch at lunch time as I work just around the corner.

We went to Kooks for brunch over the bank holiday and it was great. We wanted something small but tasty and Kooks came up with the goods. We ate smashed avocado with poached eggs on rye bread and it was gorgeous. I also had a pineapple juice. The coffee looks great here and they have lovely looking cakes in the window. We saw loads of really nice food being served and I will be back to try the falafel and mushroom job it looked amazing, Great staff, friendly vibe, perfect for a lunch with friends, kids or a pit stop while out shopping.

Went here with my daughter and it was lovely. The food was freshly prepared and well presented and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Prices reasonable and will defo go back and highly recommend. Nice vibe.

Spending a lot of time in Melbourne - the brunch capital of the world in my opinion , I find it really disappointing to go for brunch in the uk... however Kooks totally smashed it.

We had a lovely brunch here on Sunday, the place was packed so we sat outside. We had to wait for a bit due to large parties but the young lady who served us was fantastic and kept us informed. Great food and very good service.

We had spotted this place on our first evening in Brighton, and thought it would be perfect for breakfast. We had to wait for it to open (doesn't open until 10), but it was worth the wait. Delicious eggs benedict, in a lovely cafe with friendly staff. If there weren't so many places to choose from, we'd have gone back the next day too!

The daughter booked us in here for brunch on Mother’s Day. Excellent find. Good vibe without being too noisy Really good menu and all five of us had great grub. The ladies were even treated to a glass of bubbles for free. The full brek was magnificent and the avocado with poached eggs was superb. Bacon sarnies enough for two people. Service prompt and polite too so really pleased. Recommended. In a very competitive area they’re doing a great job.

My husband & I went Brighton to Sunday. First stop was to find a place for brunch. Kooks staff were friendly & welcoming. We both ordered Egg Benedict with ham hock which had been cooked with orange and maple syrup on sourdough toast. OMG! the ham hock was delcicous. not too orangy or sweet. The Hollandaise sauce was really creamy and not too sharp. the best eggs Benedict we have had for a long time. coffee was great too. we will be back. thank you.

I came to visit the Kooks as it looked a great place to eat. On arrival I was told, that if I'm on my own to sit at the bar area. There was hardly any room though and I wanted to do some work on my laptop and grab a coffee, with the potential of also having lunch (I anticipated being here a few hours and having food etc)

Went for breakfast and it was delicious, we had meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans and gluten free diners so a real mixed bunch. We were all able to order something yummy and all enjoyed it.

I had the avocado smash with a local butchers sausage and a latte. Honestly the best brunch I’ve had, couldn’t fault it! Great vibe too.

Dropped in here at lunch time,modern retro clean layout,we were attracted by the fresh looking sandwiches in the window and interesting menu.

Lovely cafe situated in the heart of Brighton. I had veggie breakfast which included falafel, hummus, guacamole and holumi - it was delicious!

Took the last table on a busy Saturday morning. Bacon roll and eggs on sour dough toast with a decaf tea and coffee was just what the doctor ordered. Small wait for food but this is to be expected given the volume of people being catered for. Food was lovely and staff very attentive and polite. Top marks!

Stumbled on this yesterday and was so impressed, saw the cakes in the window and was drawn in, ended up having lunch and it was delicious! I had a wonderful salad and my Mum had the brunch with smashed avocado and homemade hummus and halloumi. I had the pumpkin and salted caramel cake afterwards and it was amazing!

My friend wanted to treat me to coffee and cake yesterday. She goes there regularly and raves about the place. I met her and we were in the wait queue for a table. When one became free we were told that we couldn't have it but could sit on the high stools. Neither of us could manage to sit on the stools. We were scared of hurting ourselves trying so we left vowing never to go there again after such shabby treatment.

Have visited several times in recent months and have never been disappointed. Wonderful breakfast on each occasion, scrumptious cakes later in the day and always excellent service. I have a number of hospital visits coming up and even though visiting will mean going out of my way I know Kooks will help give me the pick me up I am going to need.

Stopped here for a fried breakfast which was refreshing and not oily at all. Very modern vibe with very friendly workers. Would definitely recommend

This was a really nice little breakfast spot. My other half and I visited during a weekend break to Brighton, I ordered the ‘Avocado Smash’ which was delicious and an iced coffee which was the best I’ve tried yet.

Nice little place, were hooked in for a visit by the delicious looking cakes in the windows. Had a slice of chocolate cake and partner had a slice of tiffin, the coffee was lovely and the menu looked like it had some good options for brunch/lunch although we didn’t partake.

As an Aussie calling Brighton home (for over a decade), I can't believe I've left it so long to come here. The food and coffee (and service) reminded me fondly of Australian cafes. Great menu options, friendly service. Made me a little homesick if I'm honest.

Popped in here for coffee. After a busy few hours shopping, Kooks was the perfect place to relax , enjoy coffee in a welcoming atmosphere. It’s clean, rustic and comfortable. Right in the hub of the town but it really feels like it’s out of the way ...loved it.

Stopped by for brunch-salmon on toast with pouched eggs. Reasonably priced, £8-9 but lower priced options available including gluten free and various fruits.

Good food and good service but the place was quite loud as we got a table across from the busy bar. If we would have gotten a table further in that might have been different.

Myself my husband and our son visited here today. There was an issue with our order which I won’t go into but our waitress went above and beyond to rectify it, she even spoke to the owner who personally apologised and could not have been more helpful. We ended up having cakes and hot drinks which were lovely and we would highly recommend the service. No where is perfect but I make a judgement on how issues are rectified and the service that comes with this based on that I would highly recommend Kooks and will be happy to return.

It was the chocolate tiffin that drew our attention to this establishment. Sitting there in the window, calling us to come in and have a try.....

In the Laines. Bloody Mary and Aperol Spritz followed by Parma ham, Eggs Benedict and one full Breakfast, plus Gobi Cauliflower Would return. Excellent food.

My family and I were looking for a place to have second breakfast, and this place fit the bill for all of us, including vegan options for me. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and fresh. They even make their own sauerkraut. Great experience. I would definitely eat there again and would recommend this place to anyone.

Bij het voorbijlopen zagen wij het heerlijke gebak in de etalage. Dat moesten wij even proeven! Het was er erg druk maar vrij snel kwam er een tafeltje vrij. Vriendelijke bediening en vrij vlot. Genoten van het gebak en de koffie! Het smaakte verrukkelijk!!! Echt een aanrader. Je kunt er ook eten maar dat hebben wij niet gedaan. Sfeervol zaakje!

We only popped in here on a busy Saturday for a drink. We had a seat outside in the sun and the waiter was so friendly. We were dithering on drinks and he was really patient and accommodating! My Bloody Mary was superb. We didn’t eat, but definitely will return as the menu looked delicious.

Relaxed, friendly place to stop for lunch. We had eggs benedict and a BLT which came out quickly and were darn good. The waitstaff were fun and cheery and I would go back there if we are in Brighton again.
