Kipps Alehouse in Shepway

What a lovely little find. I would usually go for cider but embraced the ales on offer and I am glad I did. The owner is a lovely man who cares about his place. You are guaranteed great service. Even if you don't like ales, there's plenty of other options.

Food is better than average burger place. Drink higher than surrounding places but atmosphere good after 8pm.

Surprising selection of international and UK craft beers, something for every taste. Cool location and friendly staff. Was delighted to see some Belgian beers on tap! Only not giving 5/5 as interior/furniture could do with some tlc. Will be back though.

Went for afternoon gig and quiz which were very entertaining fantastic atmosphere, drinks reasonably priced.

Great ales, ciders and lager from near and far but selected carefully by Andrew and his crew. Always something new to try and often old favourites return. Perfect grazing food to accompany the brews. Live music and TV sport big matches screened (check first). Great value. Central location.

Return to Kipps and pleased to say it is still a great place for a good beer with good company. Fantastic range of "craft" and imported beer ( Bruge Zot on draft) and ciders too at great prices. Honest menu serving good food which compliment the beers. We visited again in JAN 23 and liked the seasonal addition of port & Stilton/ Fino & Cashews. It's family owned and seems beloved by the owner. I heartily recommend and just love the eclectic vibe.

What a great little pub. One of best in Folkestone no question. Only one thing wrong, Why on earth are the lights turned up so brightly? Ruins the homely athmosphere.

Great ales good atmosphere and reasonable prices

Great beers, staff are friendly and they made us and the kids welcome.

The new vegetarian menu was a winner. We ordered a mix of plates to share. Try the dahl and the nachos… so tasty! We also enjoyed the selection of ales on offer at this relaxed and informal beer house in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter.

I always like micropubs with their own unique atmospheres and this is one of the best, with a great variety of beers, ciders and spirits, knowledgeable and helpful staff and a good eclectic mix of patrons. A definite for anyone visiting Folkestone who likes ales and beers.

Been in here a couple of times now. Really great selection of beers and always a good service behind the bar. Sorry, brought down to three stars because of 1) lack of general cleanliness - tables really needed a good wipe down between customers as they were sticky 2) toilet facilities - a large toilet (also used for disabled access) no handwash/soap and everything needed a really good clean 3) some of the chairs have seen better days - giving way on the underneath and uncomfortable to sit on I appreciate there is a high turnover of customers and the toilets are probably used by non-customers too but keeping on top of these things would really make such a huge difference, as it was on our last visit we only stayed for one drink because of these factors.

Just excellent in every way. Atmosphere was utterly amazing. Seems like it has had an upgrade of lighting too.

Kipps opened at 16:30 on Thursday - we arrived 5 minutes after opening and it was already very busy. And we can see why.. We were going to have a pint here and then move on, but a combination of the selection of ales and the atmosphere led us to stay a lot longer.... Very enjoyable...

A fabulous discovery on our trip to Folkestone. Cosy atmosphere, lovely and knowledgeable staff, dog friendly, and ales straight from the cask- as it should be! A must visit if you're looking for a nice place with pub vibes but not rowdy or crowded

Loved this bar. My friend and I stumbled across the pub quiz as we were visiting and it was such a great evening. Lovely atmosphere and really friendly people.

Tried to con a regular customer out of £20, then accused me of picking a fight when I queried it, then asked me to leave. Will never go there again.

I absolutely love Kipps I’ve visited a few times now and always lovely beers and ciders. I took my dog and family there this afternoon and it’s just such a lovely atmosphere. Friendly people and staff and treats for dogs too. Would definitely recommend to others

This is a really nice pub cum bar full of local people with a very friendly owner very good selection of real ale unusual beers the Wednesday night quiz is good fun even when your last well worth a visit for local banter

One of my favourite establishments to visit when in Folkestone a good variety of beers including fruit beer. Lovely sharing plates also served. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere

Upon visiting this apparent ‘micro bar’ (don’t let that put you off) I have been consistently impressed by the staffs knowledge, and range of drinks on offer. Above this their customer service towards all is polite, and courteous. We’re very lucky to be able to enjoy a pint of Craft/ Real Cider/ Real Ale/ Lager and Belgium (may not always by the pint with the latter) all in one place. Not to mention the fantastic list of new cocktails that you could introduce your lady too. Kipps’ Alehouse is a great staple and set a good standard to Folkestone. And I look forward to returning again, and again, and again.

very friendly people and fantastic beer

We came here on a Friday afternoon. It was a toss up between here and the equally highly-rated Firkin. I’m glad we chose Kipps’ as it offered something quite different to most other ‘micropubs’. Firstly, I suppose purists would say it’s not really a micropub at all but more of a micro bar – but to me that mattered not. Secondly, the big windows and prime spot make it ideal for people watching. There seemed to be a good community feel about the place, with regulars popping in and propping up the bar. The Clwb Tropica (Tiny Rebel), cider (I forget the name) and Bruges Zot were fresh. Two (one notoriously pricey) pints and two packets of crisps for £11 is good value as far as I’m concerned. I have a real addiction to reading TripAdvisor one-star reviews and note that some punters found a bar maid to be rude. I’m not sure the lady who served us is the same woman they took issue with but she does match the description. She seemed to have a dry sense of humour so maybe some humourless souls struggled but I found her charming and polite.

Kipp's is one of the first real alehouses I had the pleasure of visiting and they've always been fantastic. One of the better ones in folkestone.

Was passing and popped in for just one that turned into the whole night and a promise that next time we are staying in Folkestone, this will be our go to place for the evening or day. The beer selection was a brilliant mix of Wheat beers and other great beers from around the world and many real ales as well and a small taster was not a problem if you were unsure. The bar itself had some background music playing and many in there, but you couldn't hear others conversations and did not have to shout to talk to each other. That in my opinion makes Kipps the perfect Alehouse to visit and chill in and not be distracted by having to shout or having to listen to Jim's recent hospital visit. I try to visit this pub whenever I'm in Folkestone. Never had a bad experience. Good range of beers with continental inclination. The clientele are mostly proper adults, so never too loud.

Preety much meh, bad selection and bad staff

Excellent pub with well kept ales and plenty of other beers and other drinks available. can't understand why anyone would say the beer is flat? Its straight from the keg so hasn't been propelled though a bar pump. Real Ale drinkers would appreciate this. But saying this they are not flat anyway in my experience. And if you are unhappy I am sure they would change it for you. Andrew the owner and Tanya are very friendly and welcoming.

Please please change your web site! we checked your site during the week to see if you were open,we checked again on friday to make sure and it said that you were from 12-10 on saturday. We turned up, after paying £7.00 to park and you were CLOSED even the sign on the door said you were open, half an hour later still closed! Thanks alot.

There are a lot of brilliant local businesses that need your support right now. Do not waste your time on a place with painfully mediocre food, long wait times and rude staff (potentially the owner - shortish in height, light coloured wavy hair.) I may be wrong, but the food seemed to be microwaved? They are only interested in their middle-class peers and care nothing for the community or diversity.

Cool little taphouse which serves lots of unusual beers, ales, and ciders. Noticed a few Belgian beers on tap which is great as that's my favourite. Opted to go for a fruity cider as I haven't had it before, unfortunately it was a bit too hippy for me, but I can definitely see the appeal. Staff were friendly and accommodating, we managed to get the last available table. Very clear system for Covid that's explained on entry.

It's a delight to see Kipps back open. They're looking after their customers with all the measures currently needed, and the screening between the tables works rather well letting you be sociable but safe. The range of beers are back up to pre-lockdown standards, and with the favourites, nachos, hummus etc., being back, I'd say the Kipps team are coping well.

I have used Kipps since it opened and until recently was always content with the good selection of beers and the warm welcome from the staff who are great. Such a shame that of late the quality of the beer has fallen to an unacceptable level and is being served when it’s flat with no body. All of the beers today were undrinkable I left. Many of my do my drinking pals have the same opinion. What was the best pub in Folkestone seems to have lost its way, I shall give it another chance but with other establishments nearby it will be only one more chance
