Kings Head in South Norfolk

Amazing burgers and fries. Steak burger and falafel burger were top tier. Would recommend both. Homemade and FRESH!!! £18 each was great value for money. £6ish for a pint was great also. Outside seating area has heaters and covers and the staff come out and check on you regularly! Manager is a top guy. Very hands on and works hard and sets a good example for his staff. Million percent would recommend this place and go back ourselves.

Went for Sunday lunch with my mum, and overall it was very good. Nice staff and hot, tasty food. Only slight complaint would be that the roast beef was a little chewy, but nothing too bad.

I visited today for lunch with friends and was very disappointed, we ordered from the roast menu, 3 had roast beef and 1 the vegetarian option. the roast beef was tough, one of us couldn't cut it, the roast potatoes were soggy and the vegetables were great if you like cabbage of different colours and 1 huge chunk of carrot.. The option of gravy was not offered, everything was smothered in it, possibly to disguise the taste and a huge yorkshire pudding was placed on the top. Likewise the strudel which was made from shortcrust pastry and I do question whether the gravy was meat based. The meals when they arrived looked very unappertising and the taste matched, not what we expected of a Sunday lunch.

Superb meals, the Beef Shin pie and veg was truly awesome, and the pork loin done to perfection. Hearty portions, so come hungry! Smiling staff welcomed us and despite a busy day made time for us. Highly recommend a visit

Really lovely lunch. So four of us had a different main course. The house burger was excellent as always, the game pie was also delicious. Chicken supreme was lovely with the garlic mushroom sauce and fondant potato! Cod and Jerusalem artichoke delicious also.

Eleven of us went for festive meal today, food and service all excellent, would go again and thoroughly recommend.

Booked table for pre Christmas meal for six adults and paid £10 per person deposit, week before three adults were poorly so rang and asked if we could re-book for any time in January, were told we could but would lose deposit. January is usually a quiet time for pubs and you'd think they would be glad to take this booking. It's a pity as we've been several times before and one of the party is a long time friend of Anton. So they have gained £60 but lost several hundred and repeat custom.

Super food every time we have visited this lovely pub, with friendly service. Most recent visit involved an excellent burger with delicious herb-crusted fries, and a really good venison and root vegetable pie. Mmm!

A beautiful, peaceful oasis of calm in a busy world. It felt like slipping into a warm and comforting gentle world with the team earnest and willing with no edge, no attitude just utter charm and ease. Room was cosy, The wine list was extensive and carefully constructed (not that I know much about wine, equally, I sense someone with a good "nose" there!) and the menu was lovely (one with ingredients sourced within 48 miles so we got to sample new things we might not have tried AND feel virtuous cutting food miles along with supporting specialist local producers) and breakfast was a daily delight. Thank you so much to one and all for enabling total decompression after a challenging year for us - we will "do an Arnie" (we'll be back!).

I’d never heard of this pub until some friends recommended we visit. The service and food was exceptional, with what appears to be a relatively standard ‘pub’ menu hiding the fact that the food is amazing. There was a delay in someone coming to us to take our drinks order, after we had been given our menus, but this was acknowledged when one of the team did come over, which was appreciated. It is very much a gastro pub set in an old building but tastefully furnished, which has a lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to return to try other items off the menu.

Extremely disappointing! My partner could not cut his lamb as it was so tough. This was dealt with, we were not charged for this dish however, although edible, my dish was unpleasant. The chips I'd describe as 'floppy'. I barely touched the food which would have been obvious. The rare mid week meal out was a total waste of time and money. My partner has never complained about food before but this was so unusually poor, that a review, I feel, is necessary. It was more than two disappointing dishes but an enjoyable lunchbreak ruined. We certainly won't return.

Visited for the Sunday roast. The beef was tough and looked / tasted it was cooked beyond an inch of its life. Shame really.

Another lovely old Norfolk pub set in ŕural surroundings. The food was excellent, in particular the desserts. You won't be disappointed. I want to come back to try the breakfasts

Everything just fantastic, we stayed for Sunday lunch . Hot tasty and well presented these chefs know what they are doing !!!! Customer service on point friendly and accommodating. We travelled from Kent but will return definitely with family who live in Norwich but did not know about this little Gem. Have to book they were busy but well worth it . Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience of lunchtime dining at the King's Head today. I had requested a quiet spot for my friend and I as neither of us cope very well with noise or too many people around us, or background music. They couldn't have been more accommodating; in a small area by ourselves with no noise so we could both relax, no anxiety! The food was superb. King's pie which was superb. We shared a King's S'more pud which was fabulous. Really great service from the team who looked after us, couldn't have been more impressed. Thank you so much!

Absolutely fantastic - my partner and I treated ourselves to a night away for a change of scenery and it really did not disappoint. The Kings Head is a hidden gem, not too far from Norwich at all, with beautiful buildings, the river and wildlife close by. We stayed in the Walstan room, with gorgeous original beams on the ceiling and a huge bed. The whole room was super warm and cosy. Free parking was included in our stay. We decided to visit the Kings Head restaurant in the evening. Staff had phoned ahead to inform us that last seating reservations would be 5pm and they booked a table for us. Honestly, the food was absolutely amazing. The menu changes a little all the time as food is sourced locally and seasonally. We had the ham hock for starter, which was really light and flavoursome. For the main, we had the burger, with bacon jam and pulled pork. The chips were cooked to perfection. The burger itself was thick and juicy - it was fantastic. The next morning, we went down for breakfast, which was included in the price. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but the food was once again fantastic. The only one tiny thing that could have made it better is a slightly bigger full English breakfast, as there were three rashers of bacon but only one sausage. The sausages were lovely, so another of these would've been perfect! Overall our stay was so lovely and we will definitely be back for food in future!

Another visit to this warm and welcoming place. The ambience was perfect, the service friendly and chatty. The food was outstanding. Excellent presentation and very tasty. We had the venison, after starting with a delicious soup of the day. The presentation was classy and the portions adequate and my chocolate terrine was amazing. All rounded off with a very tasty coffee and we left feeling satisfied and fully intent on returning. I really recommend this place for the local product-sourcing they do.

The Kings Head kitchens regularly deliver food of a high standard (ingredients and preparation) but, on this occasion, were let down by the VERY poor admin of the pre-orders, also none of the "special" effort that most competitors offer e.g. crackers or mince pies. Of the Christmas lunches we had at venues of a similar standard, this was the one that stood out as over-priced, especially since, at £38.50, they had gone back to the "bad old days" of slipping in a 10% service charge rather than leaving Customers to decide the merits of leaving a tip

Our first lunch back at the Kings Head since covid and we found it largely unchanged - and certainly very busy. Good service and the food was, generally, of the same high standard that we expected although the beef wasn't the best of cuts

We took advantage of the eat out scheme. We had never been before but will definitely come again. Husband said it was the best fish and chips ever (and he has tried a few). I had a wonderful seafood platter and asked if I could swap the whitebait which was no problem to the lovely waitress. Highly recommend good staff varied menu lovely pub. What more can you need.

we booked The Kings Head for Sunday lunch and their excellent staff went above and beyond expectations, they made sure that our table was close to the door as my wife is in a wheelchair and wouldn't have to maneuver around people. All the staff were wearing appropriate PPE due to the Covid restrictions but this didn't stop them being friendly,helpful and inviting. The food was totally amazing (as always) The staff we're working hard as they have inside and outside seating but we never felt unimportant.We have already booked another two dates and can't wait to return.

We have visited this pub many times but today was really special, our first meal out since lockdown and what a treat. We felt totally safe, the staff were excellent as usual and really pleased to see us. There are tables inside and out and it felt well organised without feeling strange. The food was delicious as always.

We were expecting a good lunch, judging from all the dining accolades on display here. The duck main course that my husband ordered was fine, but should have been spectacular at £21 in a pub restaurant. My chicken dish was disappointing, with a tasteless and powdery potato ‘cake’, tough leeks and ‘jus’ which tasted like watered-down marmite.On to the dessert which again we had high hopes for. My husband’s Shrove Tuesday pancake dessert was just not a pancake at all, but a mound of salty sponge cake with sweet stuff on it. The waitress seemed surprised when we pointed out that it wasn’t a pancake and that it was very salty, and told us that they had had no other complaints. My banoffee fondant dessert which cost £8 was stodgy and just not nice. To her credit, the waitress was prompt in offering us a partial refund for the meal.

Eaten here many many times. You have to book as they fill up very quickly. Lovely pub with a good choice of food including vegetarian. Staff are polite and very professional. The chef can slightly alter one or two things for you, as I have a tendency to slightly change what is on offer. Restaurant is clean and airy, although some areas are a little dark. Good food and a reasonable price.

First class roast lunch - perfection on a plate. All served in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Service was a little slow but in fairness they do state on the menu that as all food is freshly prepared there may be a delay in busy periods. It was very busy with every table full but it was well worth the wait. Desserts also exquisite. Lovely classy pub. Highly recommended.

Managed to get a last minute booking for NYE after meaning to visit for a while. Had heard lots of good things and exceeded all expectations. The menu on the website doesn't do it justice as they offer an extensive specials menu which has a wide range of excellent dishes. Food excellent, service excellent, look forward to visiting again soon!

Had a superb lunch for 11 easily accommodated by the King's Head. Seriously delicious food for all tastes....lovely menu with absolutely delicious plates...the team were also very attentive...all round a superb lunchtime special occasion!

Only one place to go, good food, great staff and reasonable prices. Just had a Sunday roast and it reminds you of how Sunday roast used to be. Best to book, although they will fit you in if they can.

My future Father-in-Law, Fiance and I, visited Friday night and sat in the bar for drinks and a meal. A generous glass of wine and Jack and Coke for a reasonable price. We were given bread rolls and local produced butter to have before our meal for free.Our main meals arrived and we were very satisfied with our meals. I had the incredible fish n chips. Fish was large and a good portion of chips, with a mint mushy peas and tarter sauce. A few chips with over cooked but such a big eat it did not matter. My Fiance had the Burger, it was incredible again another big eat. My Father-in-law had the Pork and although this looked smaller than the other two dishes, the pork was mouth watering. Please see photos below. For pudding I had (can't remember official name) the banana dish which had bananas, profiteroles, chocolate, mouse and strawberries. These all complimented one another and was tasty! We will be back again.

The service was professional and warm. Environment was cosy and traditional. We liked that the menu was gastro but not pretentious. Beautiful flavours and presentation. We’ll definitely be coming back for more.

Popped in to this lovely restaurant after stressful visiting hours at the hospital as was hungry and needed food quickly. We hadn't booked but my hubby and I were greeted with a friendly smile, seated and served swiftly. Both drinks and the food arrived quickly, was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The gentleman front of house, (Stuart we learned) was absolutely fantastic and really looked after us, as did the young lady behind the bar, didn't catch her name. What was expected to be simply a quick feed was a thoroughly enjoyable, de-stressing experience and just what we needed! Thank you for saving our day and keep up the amazing work guys!

Visited the Kings Head with friends for an evening meal o0n a Thursday evening. Essential to book.

We stayed here three nights and all the food was absolutely excellent.

I was not in the mood to go out and not looking forward to dinner and was set to watch my wife eat and get through the evening best I could.

It is great to find that we now have a "local" offering such good food. The Kings Head has certainly "upped its game" and we will be returning shortly without any doubt

Booked into here for 5 nights, in spite of arriving late, was shown to my room, which was excellent. All the necessary facilities were there.

Fabulous celebratory family lunch which had to cater for two vegans, mixed appetites of the rest and a 4 year old. All wonderfully catered for with wonderful homemade food. Incredibly cool inside on the hottest day of the year; all was just perfect!!

Came on the off chance on a busy Friday. After waiting quite some time to get served order some drinks and asked if it was just main menu or bar meals? Was told just main menu however not taking any more walk ins. Ok fine sit and drink drinks while deciding where to go instead. Bearing in mind we always come here and have good reviews and food and service always great. Whilst contemplating where to go noticed a couple come in with a a dog which was nice and different as we haven’t been able to bring ours in to bar area before, any way they came in lady sat at table opposite and man went to prefer drinks came back and and a few monomers later the server who told me no walk ins brought this couple with a dog some menus I asked them if they had booked and they said no. Maybe my face don’t fit?

Long established owners have a wide local and regular clientele. Best to book to make sure of a table. A good roast sunday lunch and the daily menu gives a wide choice. They offer good food not a cheapo carvery . Expect quality and flavour from your food and excellent beers.

My friends and I made an impromptu decision to head out for a meal on a cold Sunday evening and we were welcomed in as if we were family. All of the staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was thriving. The portions were very generous - the piece of fish was bigger than my plate. I will definitely be returning.

Beautiful food, I had a gorgeous seafood platter and my partner had yummy fish and chips. Nice setting and lovely service. The waitress we had could have done with brushing up on her beer knowledge.

I cannot be more delighted with my visit to the Kings Head, Bawburgh. Such a wonderful cosy setting in a quaint Norfolk Village. My order was taken promptly by the attentive and friendly staff who couldn’t be more helpful when deciding what to order from the enticing menu.To follow was all round fabulous food which was truly delicious, I particularly liked the use of fresh and seasonal ingredients as well as the reasonable portion sizes. Great quality food. I highly recommend to sample something from the pudding menu! Would definitely return, and am already looking forward to my next trip.

I arranged my Mum’s surprise 70th Birthday lunch here one Sunday. There were 22 of us and the pub were unbelievably accommodating and organised. We pre-ordered and the food was outstanding. My cousin’s girlfriend said it was the best Sunday roast she’d ever had. The service was wonderful and the staff were all so willing to be helpful. My Mum had a wonderful birthday and the King’s Head was such a big part of her special day! Thank you!

Atmospheric, old-style pub and restaurant. menu was table d'hote, with several overings. The food was brilliant, the service attentive, but not annoying. I am looking forward to a repeat visit at my earliest opportunity. One slightly bad feature on the night was the poorly made and cooked Yorkshire pudding (poor texture and over-cooked) hence 4 stars.

Starters; scallops & mushroom soup excellent. Mains; Roast Chicken was a big portion, really juicy. Roast beef so tender & tasty - just bear in mind it will be served pink unless you order otherwise. Chocolate tart for pudding was awesome!

The venue looks nice, although the outside seating area is congested with too much garden furniture and it doesnt give much room for maneuvering around the very heavy chunky chairs. We noticed this presented a problem for a disabled lady while we waited for the kitchen to open at midday. Several people had to move the chairs so she was able to get in with her small walking frame on wheels.

Having just read the previous review we had to write to say we can only congratulate all the staff on the quality of service and food, and who expects to be served lunch before midday anyway plus the fact the staff were prepared to redo both their meals speaks volumes in our opinion. We have eaten at the Kings Head on many occasions and habe never, ever, been disappointed, but then some people are never pleased and are mischief makers, which probably says more about them than the establishment!?!?

We had already waited an hour for the kitchen to open at midday after cycling to the picturesque pub, so was starving by the time we ordered our meals, Chicken Supreme with mash and a Steak Sandwich with fries.

Allegedly, this is the 2019 Norfolk Pub of the Year for the Good Pub Guide, if so, I am utterly astonished as there are far, far better places in the county.

Went here for Sunday lunch with a group of friends and we were given a private room. I cannot fault the service we received and the quality of the food. I chose fish and chips and the portion was enormous, so much so that I took some of the fish home in a pussy bag for my cat who also enjoyed the fish! We noticed that the service was unobtrusive but good. We were giving plenty of time between courses but not too long to make us think we had been ignored. Would certainly visit again and would highly recommennt.

What a delicious place to eat! Love the food so much I want to eat there every day. There is a gnocchi dish that I just love, and they even made it for me when it wasn’t on the menu! Such lovely people too and the chef(s) is/are awesome!
