Took my brother his partner my husband and I for brunch, couldn’t find fault with anything at all . Seems always busy

Fantastic lunch out at this coffee shop. Food was great 10/10. Service was excellent, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble. I have and will continue to recommend this place to friends and family. You are made to feel welcome no matter when you visit.

Outstanding service. Currently on a strict no diary diet for health reasons. Ordered off the menu and what I chose was tailored to meet my needs at a very high standard. Staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. Highly recommend Kings. We will be visiting again.

The homemade soup puts me off ever opening a tin again! Delicious & served with brown or white bread & butter. Good pot of tea & a warm welcome is always on offer. We call most weeks. Clean throughout & very comfortable. Thank you.

Driving through the area I fancied a nice coffee, so I heard this was the place for one. On arrival I couldn't believe how busy this place was, and it was only 11am. I was pleasantly welcomed and told to find a table. I ordered my coffee which was absolutely fantastic. Right up there with one of the best. You can tell these coffee's are made with love. I could see lots of people really enjoying the food and desserts/cakes. So I thought of trying the corn flake tart. I really must say, this too was amazing, 10/10. Again right up there for quality and taste. Who ever made these, needs a huge compliment. Seriously must say this coffee house was so good and I definitely will be telling my friends and family to visit if in the area. Special thank you to Luke, Beth and the team for such a lovely mid morning treat. Keep up the fantastic work x

This is my third visit to kings..this super clean, modern, cafe has a warm friendly atmosphere...wasnt overly busy but i was very early..staff friendly and service was quick..my large breakfast and tea was just what the doctor ordered...they didnt mind that i changed a couple of things...lovely...

We visited here last week are were pleasantly surprised,it was warm,welcoming,a good choice of meals and drinks,and the staff were all very pleasant. We shall return,we decided. So we went today... It was busy,being just on lunchtime,and we were advised that the food could be half an hour's wait. Not a problem,we enjoyed last week's visit so worth the wait. Finally,after 40 minutes the good arrived,and what a disappointment. Jacket potato smaller than my fist,and the large breakfast was some hot and some stone cold. The plates were cold too which wouldn't help. My other half did not enjoy it,and we won't go back for food. On the upside the coffee was lovely,but gone before the food arrived.

Called in for morning coffee. Lovely comfortable place and atmosphere. Good selection of cakes. Interesting Christmas shop too.

As a family we have been visiting Kings since it opened and by far it is the best place to eat if you are vegetarian or gluten free etc.all staff are very helpful on these matters unlike some places I have dined.nothing is too much trouble,it is a lovely, calming place to be.

If you are in Retford do not miss having a cuppa and a snack in this little gem of a place It is well worth a visit everything is cooked to order and is well presented There is sometimes a wait at busy times so no good if you are in a hurry hence the 4 star marking!

The coffee shop was very busy being Charter Day. we found a table and ordered tea/coffee and scones with jam and cream,althought they were mega busy everything arrived quickly and was well presented. also the waitress was very pleasant My only complaint was the toilet arrangement which opened straight onto the tea room . I personally don't wish to see a loo whilst eating. a very poor arrangement and one I thought was not allowed on hygiene rules.

Clean & comfortable eaterie that serves good quality food at very reasonable prices. We had jacket potatoes with fillings & salad. Well presented & served by efficient waitress. Toilets spotless & cater for disabled persons. Can say we will call again & again. Thank you,

I went to Kings for lunch one day just before Easter, having found the local alternatives impossibly busy at that time. My first impressions were good and the staff were polite and attentive. I ordered an Americano and the Kings all day breakfast which, I have to say, was very good and compared favourably with that offered by a well known local alternative. My only criticism is that I discovered the sachets for salt and pepper were under my food when it arrived, as was the butter for my toast which had melted and was therefore practically unusable. Apart from that it was excellent, and I would have no hesitation about going back.

Met a friend for lunch and saw a very busy, not very tidy cafe. Had a panini which was ok and good coffee but noisy bustling place made it hard to talk and listen

Went today for coffee. Happy smiling staff and very attentive. Had a look around the gift shop and the young lady who was serving us was very helpfull.

Called in today ordered 2 breakfasts and was told it would be 20/25 mins wait.well it was 25 mins but was worth it when they arrived , sausages and bacon were grilled eggs poached lovely toast,nothing fried .We really enjoyed them

I visited Kings coffee shop last week with my husband. We both had the warm chicken and bacon salad. The staff were lovey but service was slow considering there was not that many people in the coffee shop. I would say the food is good, certainly not exceptional. I have eaten here before and my opinion is always the same.

I can't praise this place enough. I ordered a meal that ended up having meat in and I'm vegan so they changed it, no questions asked and with such good grace, I'm seriously impressed. Not only did they change it they made something not on the menu and it was delicious!

Called in for breakfast and was very impressed. The cooked breakfast was grilled with poached eggs and came with wholemeal toast. Excellent for my Slimming World breakfast choice! Only down side is they don't service mushrooms with the cooked breakfast. Tea with soya milk which not all places serve. Good and friendly service. Can't wait to try again :)

Popped in with my husband and had lunch. Staff were friendly and restaurant was clean and tidy. Food was nice enough - would come back again.

With a good atmosphere pleasant Staff and value for money not cheap, quality rearly is ,for winter warmth try the soup and roll its filling with the kings Hallmark ......quality. For a meal that is worth the money you pay kings is the way.

Ever since this place opened, coffee, food and service had been excellent. Recently been refurbished and service is as good as ever. Clean loos as well.

Very nice atmosphere and décor excellent easy to follow menu anything from sausage roll to Jacket potato with all the filling and salad to accompany a wide range of coffees. We will return!

This was our first visit to Kings Cafe, looked nice and comfortable and had a great menu. We ordered a jacket potato and toastie and were told it would be 15 minutes as they were busy. Our coffee came which was very nice but we waited a lot longer than 15 minutes for our food. When it came about 35 minutes after we ordered we were disappointed as the potato was small and looked like it had been baked to death and warmed up the next day. I love the skin but couldn't eat this as it was like leather, the knife wouldn't cut through it... the flesh was brownish and very mushy. The cheese was the dyed type with no taste to it, however they did give me loads! The toastie was slightly better but a bit on the dry side and the salad wasn't up to much. We liked the coffee and would probably go back for a drink but not sure I'd want to chance the food again.

Al llegar pedimos enseguida y me dijeron que tome asiento y me lo trae. Nos sentamos en una mesa que tenía ollas. Un miembro del personal no llegó a aclarar. Cuando un miembro del personal nos trajo mis amigos sobre ella todavía izquierda scone el sucio ollas y poner el bollo en la mesa. Fue una más 15 minutos de espera para las bebidas (todas eran frías). Mis amigos, que era una bebida de chocolate y crema de chocolate batido solo sabía como con grandes trozos de aguado en hielo. Cuando llevamos a los miembros del personal se disculpó y hicieron una nueva. Realmente me gustó, pero reyes no creo que volveré.

La habitación es muy luminosa y hay una gran variedad de opciones de asientos. Comida deliciosa y el personal muy agradable.

Ordered food on a not so busy lunchtime. Told it would be 15 minutes which seemed a long time for sandwiches and paninis but 40 minutes later still waiting. Asked if there was a problem. No-one seemed to care. Food arrived five minutes later with no apology. Tables weren't the cleanest either and side salad v poor and small. Overall poor performance.

Absolutely Disaster, had so many good comments about this place but not me, Ordered Kings All Day Breakfast,(a lot smaller than I expected) no sausages and told we could have a replacement and asked for extra bacon, got one ration, cool beans came later on a separate bowl, Told there could be a 20 minute wait as they were busy, it arrived 45+ minutes later, 10 minutes before it came a waitress said they were working on ours (no apology) when it eventually came the waitress did murmur that she was sorry for the wait. Needless to say I won;t be back.

My friends and I meet here every Tuesday and Thursday for coffee and tea cake always very good. The staff are very friendly and the shop adjoining the coffee very good for gifts too.

Really love it here! Great variety of options on the menu for food and drinks and the quality of the food is brilliant! It's reasonably priced and the service is generally really good! Just a heads up though that it can get really really busy and seating can sometimes be an issue! But would recommend this place to anyone for breakfast or lunch!

On arriving we ordered straight away panini for my son and quiche with salad for me and my mum we waited nearly 45 minutes for our food to come when I asked where it was I was told the quiche was cooking in the oven. When it arrived the quiche had clearly been heated up in a microwave or forgotten about in the oven. All around us on other tables there was dirty cutlery and pots and there was enough staff on I have been in on busier days and it's been a lot cleaner and food was served a lot quicker. Very disappointed and we won't be going again. I saw other dissatisfied customers around that day too.

Really like this cafe. I've been here for breakfast a few times and it never disappoints. Does a really nice cooked breakfast thats not just greasy and the menu has a good variety to cater for all. It can get really busy and you can struggle for seating sometimes but even when it's busy you're never waiting a long time for your order.

We visit this cafe now and again but on this occasion we were disappointed. The table was left with dirty crockery on from the previous customers and we were waiting 25 minutes for our food and it wasn't very busy. The food is quite good though so we will give it one more go

The cafe was almost full,what a nice clean place to eat.Both my wife and I had the small breakfast with a extra toast,both meals were very nice and very good value.I would go again when in town in the morning.

Kings cafe is my go to cafe it's a vibrant little place that serves great food and drink at a reasonable price the staff always have time for a hello an are always pleasant no matter how busy they are if you haven't tried it pop in for a brew

A day out with the parents.Lovely kings hot chocolate.Cake fresh and moist.Dad disappointed by the "rather dry" chocolate chip muffin.Clean toliets. Just a shame its unisex because i went in after a man and had to put the toilet seat down. Not something i want to do for a stranger.Lovely interior design shop too.Must try.

I went in for lunch with my 17 year old daughter. The cafe was busy and seems to be in two sections one in the entrance conservatory and the other in the main building. There is a furniture shop attached nice quality furniture high end prices.I had the quiche of the day which was mushroom and bacon but there were only two tiny less than bite size bits of bacon within which was disappointing. The salad was nice it came with a pot of dressing and homemade coleslaw with apples and sultanas in it. My daughter had a cheese and tuna panini which was ok apparently she ate it all so it must have been. This came with crisps and salad. I had an earl grey tea they use tea pigs tea and this came in a silver tea pot filled with hot water and a tall latte glass with a dry tea bag in it. As usual I struggled to poor without spillage. My daughter had a blackberry and raspberry smoothly which was a large percentage ice so as it melted it became less. My daughter said it tasted like squash!Service was fast and friendly they were helpful this place seems to attract a mostly elderly customer (on Thursday mornings anyway) the decor was nice with a range of seating it was clean. The toilets of which there are two were clean. Plates were taken away quickly after we ate. I paid at the counter before we got our food there was sadly not an enticing range of cakes. Do try it out it is one of the better places in Retford they are a little off the beaten track near the bus station but there is a car park opposite.

Went with my daughter for 'Ladies' Lunch' and had a lovely time. My daughter had beans on toast and I had a jacket potato with cheese and home-made colwslaw which was yummy. The potato was well cooked and not micro-waved like many places do. My daghter had a cake-pop for pudding and devoured it very quickly. Will definitely go again.

As a lover of Salads, I can highly recommend Kings! Excellent value for money and the quality is always good. It never varies..I'm always happy with the presentation and the quality of the ingredients. Always fresh!! Which is important!! Nice selection of snacks ..brunch..lunch and cakes. The staff are always polite and work well together.. never had a long wait!

Extremely friendly attentive staff, good food and speedy service. Have visited on various occasions and have been met with the same experience. Good for families too and staff make the effort to engage with children.

Called for a lunch time visit. Good prices, generous portions, the downsides was the wine and the service, the service was very slow and I do not advise the wine!

Called with a friend for lunch, ordered 2 chicken and bacon salads. Sat down waiting for salad to come but 5 mins later got told they'd sold out of chicken so we couldn't have the salad. Instead we ordered jacket potatoes only to be told there was a 15 minute wait as they'd already sold 20 jackets potatoes that day!!!!!! No-one seemed in charge, youngsters were front of house and whilst they were pleasant but we weren't given great customer service. We were left waiting whilst others who'd ordered well after us, got served first - very frustrating!!! The food when it arrived was very nice and we even had a scone for a treat which was also nice. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and I'd try this place again as the food was good.

The coffee was good quality and the ambiance was conducive to relaxing conversation. Although I did not sample the cakes on this visit they did look very tempting. One thing to note is that when we visited on a Saturday afternoon the coffee shop place was rather busy.

Quick efficient service. Had a beautiful salad and a latte both reasonably priced. We travel from Doncaster specifically to have lunch here. Well worth the trip!

We love to go to Kings as it is consistently excellent. Lovely surroundings, great food and friendly staff. They always do a takeaway Panini for our son who doesn't get up as early as we do but complains if we go without him! Only one personal request...don't put raisins in Anthea's lovely homemade coleslaw. Once I have picked them all out, theres not much left!

I have visited Kings many times and have always found the staff professional efficient and friendly. There are a range of food options but I can recommend the BLT sandwiches served with delicious homemade coleslaw!

After hearing great things I thought I would try the place I won't be going again a 25 min wait for our order and it wasn't even busy toast was cold and staff could have been a lot friendlier they seemed more concerned with unpacking stock and shifting rubbish than they did in ensuring customers were happy

Very tasty lunch here today. Easy to get into shop with my mother in law in a wheelchair. Lovely food and speedy pleasant service. Only snag was that the tables were very small for us to get food and drink for 3 people on.

Visited for mid morning latte ,fruit loaf , staff friendly, products excellent value ok. Hubby liked that newspapers were available for customers too read whilst relaxing with coffee and toasted fruit loaf. It was a welcome break from out shopping

I've been coming in here since it opened and can't fault it. The atmosphere is very welcoming and you feel comfortable just walking in anytime, I often use this as a meeting place for friends and family as i know we will be well looked after and the prices are very competitive to all the other coffee shops in town, nothing is too much trouble for these guys and you can tell the family run business means a lot to them.

My favourite place to relax and unwind.. Not only great food and coffee at a reasonable price, but friendly young hard working staff who always make us feel at home and are a pleasure to talk to and get to know over the years.An excellent and pleasant atmosphere, with a bright and tasteful décor.A great place to meet friends and impress visitors, wonderfully furnished throughout. I love Kings coffee shop, the noise from the coffee making machine, the over 70's dancing round their zimmer frames, forgot their handbags, the pools syndicate still trying to win big time, and the kiddywinks asking why? and screaming out loud imitating Concorde taking off or was it landing. This is life at its very best, the Food is a knockout, the bacon butties are still a wonder to behold. The cappochino coffees made by the two handsome barista's is the nectar of the gods. Anthea's quiche salad and coleslaw, tickles the tastebuds exquisitely. I love this place. Long may it reign.

I love this coffee shop, and whenever I get chance travel over to Retford. My friends and I decided to have lunch here, it was a beautiful day, and we took a seat outside. My friend went inside and ordered our three drinks, it was busy as it usually is. As we were busy chatting, we didn't realise we had waited over 15 minutes for our drinks, at this stage a member of staff who we knew came and asked if we were ok? We said we were still waiting for drinks, she promptly went inside to see where they were. Five minutes later a young man approached the table with two drinks, and we said they are not our order, so he apologised and wandered off. Again the member of staff we knew came to see if we had been served, as she saw we were still without drinks, returned back inside. Within a few minutes our drinks arrived. We decided to order lunch, as always lots of choice, and really hard to decide. My friend and I opted for the homemade quiche, and the other friend tuna jacket potato. The young lady came out with the meals, and sort of hovered because the table was full with cups, glass, teapot etc from our previous drinks. Although she had walked past several times before! We quickly cleared the table as much as we could so she could put the meals down. On returning with the other meal, put the plate down, and picked up a couple of items, and placed them on her tray. We had to call her back to clear the rest of the table, which was done very ungraciously. At no point did she ask if we required anything else, which is usually customary. I did enquire was there any mayonnaise, and I think her reply was just a minute!! She returned and put three packets on the table. Whilst we were eating, I think there must have been a mix up with other meals, as again, the staff waiting on wandered around with meals. I cannot fault the meal, it was outstanding and looked appetising and tasted it as well. The older member of staff came and asked if our meal was ok, and did we require further drinks. This is a really lovely place, which has a nice family atmosphere not one of your large chain coffee shops, and is really worth a visit. It has a lovely gift shop attached with many unique and unusual gifts. It's such a shame, that some of the younger members of staff need some customer care training. Being polite and friendly doesn't cost money. I hope the manager of the coffee shop reads these reviews, a lovely place, but please look at some training for staff.

Nice coffee shop to catch up with friends. Friendly atmosphere good food and coffee. Only down fall is its so good it does get busy and sometimes have to wait a little longer to get food and drink.

Their 'Kings Breakfast' is delicious, and is grilled so it's not greasy and horrible. Friendly service, great selection of baked goods and coffees and a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Called in for lunch with my son. We had a 15 minute wait for our drinks and it was another 10 minutes before our food arrived, served with soggy crisps. Would have been nice to be told of a wait.

Only tried this place recently as it has an interiors shop attached and I saw that the café looked quite nice. It has a conservatory area which is very pleasant and the cappucino is one of the cheapest in Retford. they also have skimmed milk which most of the other cafes don't offer. You order t the counter but they bring the food/drink to you when it is ready. They also offer a nice selection of delicious looking cakes.There are newspapers available which is great if you are on your own.

I am from newark. A friend of mine recommended this coffee shop in retford so I decided to visit with my mum. We are both coffee lovers and I can honestly say this is the finest coffee we have ever tasted. My chicken tikka panini was really good and to my surprise it came with a generous side salad and crisps. Very reasonably priced, what a find! Wish there was one in newark... 5 star!

visited this coffee shop on 25th May. The shop itself was smartly decorated and very clean. The staff serving behind the counter were welcoming and cheerful which makes a good first impression. I ordered a late and a cheese scone, the late was one of the best I've had and the cheese scone was served warm which was delicious. I did not have to wait long for my order and it was a very reasonable price. I will be visiting again, maybe next time for lunch.

I visited kings for lunch, i chose to sit outside due to it being a lovely sunny day. I had cheese and tomato toasties which also came with salad, crisps & coslaw. I didn't have to wait to long for the food to arrive. The staff are friendly and helpful, would recommend this coffee shop to my friends. You could also browse in the furniture shop next door.

As a regular customer at Kings I felt I should write a review! I find everyone very friendly and helpful. The staff remember your drinks and are polite. There is a good selection of food and drink which is reasonably priced and slightly cheaper than other coffee shops in Retford. Seating is comfortable and papers available daily to read. They are welcoming of children and families and encourage wheelchair users and are kind to the older generation. Food and drink is delivered to your table and is always of a high standard! Best place to go for coffee and a catch up with your friends in Retford! Highly recommended.

We visit kings twice a week on a regular basis after teaching fitness classes and find it the ideal place for a light lunch and coffees. The staff are always friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend to all class participants. Keep up the good work.

Regularly come to kings coffee shop and always find it a relaxing place to unwind. Staff friendly and helpful, especially Jules who got us not one but two newspapers! Would recommend to anyone young and old. If you are a chocoholic try the loaded hot chocolate, it will not disappoint!

First time eating here, won't be visiting again. After a long walk we called here on Bank Holiday Monday and ordered two bowls of home made soup. We were told there would be a wait of 20 mins as they were busy. After half an hour I went to enquire about the long wait and was told "I said at least 20 minutes". I said its been half an hour, again "I said at least 20 minutes, not sorry for the delay or we are really busy. The soup arrived after 45 minutes by which time we were starving. The soup was ok, my husbands was rather bland and they were both a bit gritty. It was hot and the slice of bread was fresh. Not bad value but I could hear other people moaning about the delay. If you don't mind waiting then its ok.
