Couldn’t tell you about the food as they don’t take card payments?!? Who doesn’t take card in 2023v makes you wonder if they are dodging tax or doing something dodgy being card only. Avoid!!

Called in here today for the first time for fish, chips, curry sauce and mushy peas. Our food was cooked to order, Everything was perfect, and we would definitely eat here again. fantastic customer service.

This place used to be the best but sadly has gone down hill, i went today got L/battered sausage and chips the sausage tasted like it had been there days batter was stale and tasteless and had to wait 3 minutes for chips that were also dry and stale for £5.40 not a great experience.

Years ago the kingfishers fish n chip shop in Albert Road Southsea was the place to go,not no more.On are most recent visit the chips were decent but very small in potion and the jumbo battered sausage was poor,it had no taste and looked undercooked.The fish was also not up to standard and seemed to be more batter then fish.Maybe it was an off day so will maybe give it another try in the future.

Delicious Fish and Chips! Piping hot chips and really light, fluffy and fresh batter on the tasty cod. My hubby had the pie and said it was great too. And…..it was delivered to my door! Thanks guys!

Popped in for a fish & chips lunch order. We all agreed that the chips were the best we’d had for ages! Crispy, not greasy. Will be returning.

I just popped in and it seemed quiet. But despite 4 staff it took quite a while to process my simple order. The curry sauce was basically warm brown water. I'm not sure it was made correctly!

Good chips but the thinnest piece of fish I have ever had could barely even taste it. Rip off for the price. Very disappointing and won’t be back sadly

Ordered off just eat but the order hadn’t been confirmed so rang to check, to be told they didn’t understand why the order had gone through as they turned the tablets off as all drivers where on break, well Rosie went out off her way to find away to get my order delivered to me, the manager kindly deliver it himself, Rosie was very polite and professional and the food arrived beautiful, a* for amazing service and food. Highly recommend and Rosie is such a great asset to you guys, thank you again

Been here over the years, never had a bad meal until now. Leathery dry chips, dry small fish. sit in was served in a box, had to search for wood forks etc, not offered any sauces. Menu currently paper flyer on table, does not mention chips not included with meals. We left most of them, when he collected them we mentioned chips were awful, he said " I know this, its the potatoes I can't get better ones. Went to pay and were charged £5.50 on bill for chips, which he had just agreed were not good. Bill was £21 I said he shouldn't charge for chips so he said make it £20 then! £1 off. Paid and left, will not return.

Fish and chips isn’t hard to get wrong, but Kingfishers disappointed at every level. Large cod - very greasy batter on a very thin slice of cod - 3/10 Large chips - dry and okay - 6/10 Sausage - devoid of flavour 4/10 Mushy peas - tasteless pea purée 2/10 Curry sauce - watery essence of curry 2/10 Now relegated to the avoid list.

CASH ONLY!,,,,over 7 quid for large cod ,which you wdnt mind but its so small 20 quid for very mediocre food .not hot ,old hard chips,even the plain sausages were not right.we were hungry bit we cdnt eat this ,worst i ever had AND SO EXPENSIVE

Yes, 30 years. I went in last week and there was a young girl on her laptop in the back. She took my order and I waited as normal. In the warming tray on the counter (under the hot lights) was a big box of cheesy chips that I presumed were for show, so the customer could see what you'd get. When I got home, I soon realised, the cold cheesy chip box was what I'd been given. Also the place was overdone, the haloumi fries was cooked to death, and even my Haddock was over done. It's the first time I've ever had warmed up, or overdone bad food from here. I didn't want to write a bad review, so I went back the next day, and the next, hoping to catch the owner or at least the guy who is in charge. But every day, the girl is there no doubt turning out the second rate food that this well established place is not known for. I feel bad writing this, but I was so disappointed, and won't be going back. Just because its lockdown, I really don't think you should let your high standards slip to this level. Tony

Spotted The Kingfisher open on my way home from work, treated my family and my parents. Had to pass my parents through the window due to Covid lockdown and they thoroughly enjoy it. Lovely freshly cooked Cod and Chips. Would highly recommend. Generous OAP portions.

Desde su traslado a Portsmouth nos esperaba lo mejor de pescado y patatas fritas ... y aquí está. Siempre una cara amistosa y servicio rápido, que no nos pescado y patatas fritas desde cualquier otro lado. Lo recomiendo especialmente su propio estilo pescado pasteles- que en realidad no saben como pescado, puré de patatas!

Popped in here for a light lunch. We both had the lunchtime special i.e. Small fish, chips, mushy peas, and a pot of tea for two. It was delicious, even had some lovely home made tartare sauce. Staff were very polite and the place itself was very clean and neat and tidy (including the toilets). Would definitely visit again.

Not had any problems before but tonight the cod was really small half the size as before and then they tried to over charge me typical behaviour from a business when they do well GETTING GREEDY

Needed a place to eat before the Great South Run, but everywhere was booked up. Found this place where you can eat in and had an excellent value meal - fish and chips, apple pie and a soft drink all for £8.50.

And crowded at dinner time. A few tables if you are not doing take out. Really fresh and flaky fish - and the chips were crisp and good. Prices very reasonable. Nothing fancy - what seemed to us to be a staple in the community and well worth a visit.

Cannot agree with the poor review below. Yes, when we visited Kingfishers, it was two young men serving, but the fish and chips were freshly cooked - nice, non-greasy chips and a tasty light batter for the fish. Rounded off with a decent pot of tea.

My wife and I just fancied a quick snack, as our usual fish and chip shop was closed we thought we would try Kingfishers, this was a big mistake, it was being managed by two young men, one that was more interested in eating his own lunch, all I ordered was two fish cakes and a large chips, while I was waiting I had a look round,the place is looking very tired and shabby, when I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar I looked at the chips, they did not look good as they were thin, brown and greasy looking, I should have asked for my money back then. When I got home I opened the wrapping to find that the chips were just one solid lump,we tried them thinking, well maybe they will taste ok as we were hungry, the chips were cold, limp and tasted stale as if they had been warmed up from yesterday, these are the first chips in my life that I could not eat and I have been to some dodgy places at 3am,I did not even bother unwrapping the fish cakes, if they could do this to the humble chip,we did not want to even look at them let alone eat them, we just threw them all in the bin ( waste of £4.50)and went out to another fish shop.

Don't go to anywhere else! These are the best! Ordering by phone is very easy. The fish batter is light and not greasy! I have been going for the last few years! Suggest you try this place.
