King William IV in Guildford

Inadvertently ended up here again for Sunday lunch when in the area. Just as good as a couple of years ago. Excellent service and food (Roast), great atmosphere. Obviously popular as very busy.

So lovely to discover this pub for Sunday lunch after a recent recommendation. We weren’t disappointed as it was fantastic. Warm welcome & lovely service. Prices reasonable & will 100% be going back & will recommend.

Had a superb Sunday lunch in this lovely old, recently refurbished pub. The roast beef was lean and perfectly cooked, as were all the veggies - generous portions too. Added a cauliflower cheese but we struggled to finish - shame not to though, as it was all so tasty. Service was excellent, prompt, cheerful and very attentive. Finished with a delicious dessert. First rate food and service, and excellent value for money. Clearly very popular - will definitely visit again soon.

We've recently re-discovered The King William and have had a number of delicious meals with different groups of friends. We'd not been there on a Sunday until last week and the roast was one of the best we'd ever had at a pub. Great and attentive staff. 10/10 from us.

Our first visit here since the refurbishment. The food and service were both very good but we sat in the dining area at the back and were disappointed by the decor. Everything was very grey and bland and no imagination seems to have gone into it. On the other hand the front of the pub is cosy and welcoming! Would this stop us from returning? Probably not. 😊

This little gem we have visited twice in just over a week ! The refurb is stunning and really well thought out Our food has been nothing but excellent both times I ate pollock and sea bream, both cooked perfectly My husband had calves liver which looked delicious even though I would never choose that myself ! My friends had a gorgeous dessert with coffee amaretto and ice cream Highly recommend to eat here if you are in the area They have a large screen for popular films in the garden ( think Dirty Dancing kind of film!) and the Olympics which looks fun for the summer evenings and a monthly quiz night which we will go to in October ( and probably come last but hey) Five stars from us

Came here with the family on Sunday for lunch. The food, service and staff were superb, they made sure we had everything we could’ve wanted and really went above and beyond helping us to celebrate two birthdays - (a big thank you to Will for looking after us)! The roasts were all delicious, as was the duck salad. Great selection of drinks and a lovely sunny garden to enjoy them in. Would recommend this pub to anyone in Surrey!

Just returned from a lovely lunch at the place and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Everything from the food, staff and ambience were right up there with some of the best around and on a par with our perennial favourite, The Old Plough at Stoke D'Abernon. This certainly gives it a run for its money. We will definitely return.

Excellent food, reasonably priced and very efficient friendly service. The fish dishes were delicious and the chips were declared ‘the best ever’ by discerning teenagers.

This is fast becoming our new favourite pub in the area. The team from the Onslow Arms in Clandon has apparently re-formed to run at least the kitchen here and the great food is most welcome back. As others have said, the acoustics I. The restaurant aren’t great but I’m not going to let that detract from a lovely evening meal for a special occasion yesterday. Also impressed with how attentive the staff were despite a (very) busy evening with the quiz and the football!

Having driven by numerous times in the past and not called in, we thought we should give it a try, especially as the pub had recently been refurbished. Pleasantly surprised. Spacious friendly pub, the (foo)TEA beer was well kept and excellent. The food was also very good - we had the Durban vegetable curry and the Cajan Salmon nicoise salad. We will be tempted to call in again next time we are in the area.

Amazing food and such a lovely atmosphere! Went here the other day to have lunch and ended up staying to watch the football in the lovely garden. Aaron on the bar was amazing and was super helpful when order food! Thank you to all the amazing team :) Can’t wait to come back very soon

I was very pleased to find that the King William IV has re-opened, under new ownership presumably but the premises have not changed a lot and the menu has a few more of the good-value lunches that we enjoy. My wife had a generous bacon and brie baguette, happily free from ingredients you would never add at home. I enjoyed a jacket potato with chill con carne, fast food perhaps but nothing wrong with it and with a fresh home made salad on the side. Service was friendly and the covered patio rather pleasant in the good weather, though there was an inevitable wasp that we could have avoided by eating inside.

Came here for Sunday roast with my husband and another couple. The only mains on offer were four Sunday roast options - fair enough. Staff were all really friendly and service was prompt. The food was not the best Sunday roast I have had, to be honest. I had the chicken, which although tasty was on the dry side. The others had beef which was very good, generously cut with thick slices, although one of the others in the group was given the end of the joint slice, which was burnt, and my husband said that the beef itself was not that tasty. The potatoes were ok but nothing special (I think my own roasties are better to be honest); the Yorkshires were underdone and not properly risen at all and the veg was ok but again nothing brilliant. Most of us had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and that WAS good!

Great place was supposed to go to the place next door but it was closed food was fabulous and the service was amazing.

We had a family meet up here last Sunday, coming from Reading and Kent, to meet somewhere in the middle. Food and service was great. We had 2 tables in our own secluded area. Good choice of food at good prices. Lovely pub with Christmas decorations and log fire. We will be returning for our summer meet up!

We picked this place for a family birthday lunch because we’d heard it was child friendly & had a playground. Alas, we arrived to discover the playground was being renovated & was therefore out of bounds. The food was great though & the staff were very diligent about accommodating my daughter’s allergy.

Not been here for several years and pleased we did. Sensibly priced food and friendly staff and good portions. The menu isn’t huge but enough there to suit most tastes. There is a 10% service charge.

I visited The King Billy on a Wednesday evening to have a quiet dinner with some friends, it certainly fulfilled the brief ... we were the only ones in the restaurant. Don't let this deter you from the pub, great atmosphere, dilligent service and palatable food. The staff went above and beyond to make the dining experience truely excellent, including taking the time to check with the kitchen and confirm the gluten free items on the menu for me. Special thanks to the kind waitress, sorry I didn't catch her name

My partner and my son and I had lunch here yesterday, were made to feel very welcome and the food was excellent. The pizza was parrticuarly good, one of the best I've ever had in fact. Great service too. Recommended!

I last did a review in 2017 and the place has got even better, the place has excellent staff and plenty of room with the current rules. The ale is kept well and the Soup and Pie were the best. Will come again went next in area good luck and thankyou

Friendly and accommodating staff, we didn’t have a booking but the manager found us a table without any fuss, Covid safe, lovely food, not a long wait although it was very busy!

I can’t recommend this pub and it’s staff highly enough. Beautiful setting, really welcoming, helpful and friendly staff. We had a delicious Sunday roast and Kids loved their ham, egg chips and fish and chips. We sat on the patio which was beautifully laid out and unusually were able to relax as there was a brilliant play area for the kids ( ours 5,3 and 1) which kept them entertained and within eye/earshot. Manager (?) Chris was endlessly and intuitively helpful, offering up a phone charger when he realised we had low battery, and even taking myself and my husband and kids home after we couldn’t get a taxi. The warm welcome from the staff was matched by some lovely locals who glanced over and had a chat. We really couldn’t believe our luck having stumbled upon the William 4th. We will certainly come back whenever we are close.

Had a lovely family meal after a busy day at Chessington. We were able to make last minute reservations and we enjoyed a lovely 2 course meal. The restaurant catered well for two children and four adults with varying dietary requirements. We would happily drive the 2 hour journey from home just to enjoy another meal here.

We came to The Billy for our first meal out as a family since lock down. The food was excellent and the service was extremely professional. Everything was clean and social distancing observed by the staff. During lock down, we regularly ordered takeaway food from Mark and particularly loved the Big Billy and Greek pizzas. We would highly recommend this pub both for its excellent food and wonderful welcoming atmosphere!Suzy and team Williams

....On my first pub outing (Since lockdown eased) with son and young grandchildren, it started well as 5pm hardly anyone else there on the deck outside, which is a nice area. However, I’ve given a poor rating, because my granddaughter chose Chicken nuggets and only after 10 minutes were we told they’d run out. She’s a vegetarian mostly, so had to go for the pasta, which she was disappointed with. My grandson was happy with his ham, eggs and chips, Then later on they chose their dessert of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. No vanilla ice cream! This made me quite annoyed as I told the waitress. A Wednesday afternoon and the chef unable to stock up the children’s menu! Very bad planning, especially as there are 2 large supermarkets locally. Lazy attitude ... I used to own a restaurant and the last thing you want is to run out of foods BEFORE service. Chef’s fault.For me, the whole experience was ruined, as my treat to the family fell flat. The rest of the food was ok, for the “eat out to help out” reduced bill.I wasn’t entirely sure that the staff were observing social distancing and the children’s paper menu was very used. I’m not sure whether the plastic covered menu was sanitised before and after use. A little more effort, especially attention to food supplies needed.

Staying nearby, we took a walk into the village and decided to stop for a bite to eat. We chose a table in the garden and shared an enormous club sandwich between us. How any one person could eat it, I will never know. It was delicious and actually very good value, as we shared it. Disappointed to see 10% added to the bill, as we would have given a tip anyway - probably a larger one. But hey! We enjoyed our lunch. Thank you.

Went to the King William for a pint on Sunday 5th July. The pub was set up to keep people safe. Hand sanitiser was provided and clear instructions to keep people separate. The beer and pizza were great served by polite staff.

Visited as a large cycle group at the end of lunchtime and the hosts couldn't have been more helpful. The Shere drop was particularly recommended om the beer side and all the sandwiches and coffee were very good. I understand why this is a favourite stop of a number of the group.

On Sat 4th Jan we called and were able to get a table for 12.30 for 4 for lunch. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who gave us a lovely table enabling us to watch the children play outside from the warmth of within!Our food arrived promptly and the portion sizes were great - even the children's.During our stay a large group of people arrived at the bar and thus impacted the wait for my children's puddings. The waitresses were always updating and apologising for the delay which was useful and given my two were enjoying playing outside the wait did not really affect us. The pudding was worth the wait apparently!Our overall feelings coming away were how much the staff were concerned with customer service and ensuring that we had a worthwhile visit. Whilst i have visited here a few times before and always had a good experience i wanted to share this feedback for others to encourage a drink or dinner there.In the summer there is a bouncy castle erected for little ones and an all year round little play area for slightly older ones. Great little country pub.

Seven of us had a really excellent Christmas lunch which all worked out perfectly. The food was delicious, good service and a cheery atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for more. Will be back again next year!!

We had 21 people eating to celebrate a birthday. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.The good was lovely. A pub with an open fire and a garden with a play area.would recommend and would visit again.

Had a fantastic family Christmas lunch today at the King William. There were 18 adults and two children. The room had been laid out beautifully for us with the tables in a U shape which meant that we could all converse with each other. The food was superb, everything tasted gorgeous. The service was excellent too. We will definitely be booking again for next year!

It’s so nice to find a proper village pub and not a gastro pub which to becoming the norm! The Courage Directors was excellent and the soup, sandwiches and pizza were delicious and well priced. The bar was also very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back.

This is a truly lovely old pub with lots of charm, including actual fires keeping the pub warm. The lamb roast was filling and top notch. Several different ales are on offer, enough that we stayed all day! The Guinness line is also well taken care of, which cannot be said of all pubs.We especially liked that we were warned as we walked in that we should order quickly as they were expected to get much busier. It certainly did, and we ordered just in time. Cheers!

I organised a party here and we had an incredible time. Can’t recommend highly enough. The staff were really helpful with setting up the band and dancefloor, they completely entered into the party spirit and even joined in with our fancy dress theme. Fun, polite & attentive bar staff. An amazing night. Thank you!

I've been coming here for years but have never tried the Sunday Roast as a tad wary from experiences in lesser pubs with fatty beef, soggy roast potatoes etc... I shouldn't have been as the roast was very, very good! Cooked well and attentive, timely service! Good value too!

We stopped off here on our way the Heathrow. It was a last minute decision as we hadn't thought about eating before we flew. We both ordered roasts, and I have to say they were out of this world! Tasty, piping hot and plentiful. The place has a real cosy feel and I would go out of my way to get another one of those smashing dinners! Staff were so polite, and we even got a quick chat with the boss man, he's a real gent. What a Gem!

This is a great little pub on the edge of the Surrey Hills, in a quiet spot in the middle of the village. It is all too rare to find a true pub these days that has retained all of its character and warmth but has managed to combine this with all of the expectations that we have these days. Mark and his team are incredibly welcoming and go out of their way to make this a family friendly and all inclusive pub. The menu is regularly evolving and has something for everyone from the old favourites to the more contemporary, along with various nights where there are themed food evenings. There is a fantastic covered deck and garden at the back which is a real pleasure in the summer and all in all you would have to go a long way to find such a good local pub.

We had a lovely lunch with really nice food, and really nice staff that we had a lovely chat with. All in all, a shame to see it go.

Great news The Pub is closed down .Time for a proper landlord who is friendly and polite. He has driven numerous locals to other pubs in the area.

Went to this restaurant for lunch. Food was amazing. Simple menu but everything was delicious. Pudding was a little disappointing as they forgot the ice cream and when they brought it, it was tasteless.

We were all very pleased, the food was very good and the service excellent with a smile. We asked the manager for one table for us all which he did.

Mediocre (at best) food at exorbitant prices and served extraordinaily slowly. Certainly would not recommend.

Sadly our local pub in Cobham got taken over and they decided to pull out the kids area at the back, this meant for any of us with children our Sunday fun days having a few drinks in the garden with friends whilst the kids play were over —- until we found this little beauty yesterday in West Horsley .

Had a great lunch here with friends and family. Food was very good, as was the service. Can’t comment on quality of beer etc as was driving. 2 year old son loved playing in the garden.

We were in the area, and decided to call in for a meal. it was a busy friday evening, but we were able to find a table. staff were really friendly, and efficient. they apologised for a 20 minute delay on food (extremely busy) before we had even ordered.

Have eaten here numerous times with my family as well as drinks on a Friday night to support the local bands. Food has always been tasty and of a high quality with both the food and drinks always being reasonably priced! Staff are always very friendly and attentive, providing excellent service at the table as well as at the bar. Can’t wait for summer to return, will be back soon to enjoy some more delicious food and the wonderful garden out the back!

Went for dinner with a couple of friends and had a lovely meal. Great portion sizes and reasonable prices. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we were particularly impressed by our waitress Lex who served us in the restaurant. The beer garden looks great for the summer too, with somewhere for kids to play at the bottom and plenty of benches and tables. Definitely will be returning to try out one of the weekend band nights and for more fantastic food.

My partner has been told by friends about this Russian chef and the quality of food he is cooking. So we went there for a good dinner and I don't really know how to explain our experience. Apparently the chef is not there anymore :(

The worst pub service and below average food I have ever come across.

First time have been to this pub but it’s local for friends so met them there for lunch. Food was well presented and very nice although think the nachos starter was very overpriced for what you got. We all enjoyed hot food and good service but remember the service charge is automatically added on the bill. Pub is bigger than looks from outside so tables are not all squashed together. There are two elements can just have pub bar snack or restaurant meal. Staff were very pleasant and would go there again if passing but not have the nachos unless cheaper !

King William IV Pub, West Horsely. Called in for a meal today. Was overcharged. Was offered to have a bar tab. Ordered drinks and food.

Six of us thought we would try out the new menu. The new chef is doing really well. Everything we ordered was delicious, servings were generous, and the service from the friendly staff was spot on.

The King William IV has always been a nice cosy pub, but I have been impressed with how they are continuing to up their game and introduce elements to cater for everyone.

Passing through the area, we decided to stop off here and i must say i was really impressed and will definitely be returning when next in the area. The landlord and his staff were very friendly and attentive. A young lad even assisted my mother out of the car and into the restaurant with her walking stick (little things like this go a long way in my book). They had referred to a new Chef starting in the kitchen recently and although I rather wary at first, my fears were soon eased with 3 tremendous courses of food.

Although I have lived in this area for about 35 years, this was my first visit to this pub, it certainly won't be the last! I met a group of friends for lunch; on a Monday lunchtime it was fairly quiet with no background music - a considerable plus in my book. Spacious interior with tables nicely spaced, so easy to chat comfortably. Most of us had soup or sandwiches, bacon, brie and cranberry was my choice, and all was very tasty. There were other options, although I did not look at the main menu. We were most impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the delightful young waitress, who smiled constantly! Staff make such a difference to any establishment, so well done to the King William IV, we will return!

Our local King Billy has long been a firm favourite of ours for lunchtime snacks after walks with our two dogs, plus occasional evening meals. Great atmosphere and service, very dog-friendly and good pub food - our recipe for success. We'd been told about the new chef and thought we'd try him out on Valentine's Day. We were not disappointed by any means by what was a very professional meal. Really interesting flavour combinations and perfectly cooked, including the halibut which is notoriously easy to overcook. Combine that with the Billy's usual friendly and professional service and it all looks very promising. We look forward to seeing how the chef integrates his culinary expertise into the main menu as he further settles in.

Over time we have found the King William to always be welcoming - unspoilt by corporate design & attitude. I wouldn't call it a gastro-pub...its a lovely country pub. Recently they have recruited a new chef so we booked in a party of 5 which included retired publican/chef & the rest of us who can be lets say...critical. So, how was it..? Well I can happily say that we enjoyed very well cooked & presented dishes which were on the satisfying portion side & there were certainly no complaints from any of the party...we came away satisfied on all counts. Good friendly service too. I hope this continues as this is a lovely comfortable pub where walkers to special occasion custom seems to be truly welcomed & valued.

We’ve eaten at the King Billy on a number of occasions and having heard there is a new chef on board, booked a table for dinner. The staff were friendly and welcoming as always, and the food was a selection of quality ingredients put together in a very creative way. It was well presented, perfectly cooked and truly delicious. Service was unhurried but attentive. Keep up the good work. We’re so lucky to have Mark and his team in our local area.

We were told about the new chef at the King William IV and thought we'd give it a try on Valentines day. Apparently he has only been there a few weeks but has clearly settled in well to produce such a quality menu. Quite exceptional quality and very well presented and on this basis excellent value for money. The staff always look to make everyone welcome even those who only visit occasionally. Highly recommended

Starters very small and over priced, mains nearly everything served with awful stodgy potatoes or chips not a good selection of vegetables, sausages poor, puddings were good and a fair price, their also appears to be a lack of staff, has their chef changed?

A very friendly pub, welcoming and very good food, i recently had a Christmas evening there with my neighbours, and a lunch and New Year's Eve, all very enjoyable.

We booked a family meal here for 27 of us. I contacted the pub to make the initial booking and was advised to pre book our meals via email.

We have just had our family Christmas meal here -a party of 17. The pub has lovely Christmas decorations up, they had created place names with our menu choices on it which saved me having to remind everyone what they had ordered! From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome, the service was excellent nothing was too much trouble. The food arrived on time and importantly it was lovely and hot and very tasty. We had a wonderful time and will certainly be back.

We came here for dinner last night and it was lovely! Very traditional pub with a cosy and quiet atmosphere. We each had something different on the menu and all was delicious, especially the homemade Pizza and the Steak burger. Staff were very polite, efficient and friendly. Will definitely be coming back again soon!

Had a great lunch here with friends in their lovely restaurant area. Friendly staff and great menu. The staff are working hard to provide more gluten free options. I tried the gluten free pizza which was excellent. The chef cooks gluten free fish and chips in a separate fryer so no worries about cross contamination.

Never having been here before, our lunch here was a really excellent experience. The restaurant is very comfortable and there are friendly staff and a good menu with a variety of nice dishes. There were four of us and we had two fish pies, a lamb burger and a pork schnitzel. All our meals were excellent and they were served in good time by a very friendly and helpful young waitress. She was a star and we noted how she went out of her way to do everything well and anticipate our every need. She spotted one of us having finished a pint of beer and immediately offered to get another one for us, which we would otherwise soon have asked for. Well before our food arrived, she also brought us nicely presented mayonaise and tomato sauce in little china dishes on a napkin and plate with two teasoons. You may say, why mention this, but it was a very nice touch and said a lot about how she and the management care to doo things well. The pork schnitzel was supberb with red cabbage and creamy mashed potatoes and it was no trouble at all for them to provide my with a small jug of gravy on the side, which was a real bonus for this dish. Well done young lady and many congratulations to your management team! We'll be there again for sure.

Excellent food as always thanks guys

My food was delivered nearly 2 hours late. I hd ordered chilli sauce but requested mint sauce instead in a note, I was given Mayo. I had a chicken and shish kebab on garlic bread. The lamb was burnt and the chicken was ok but some of it was grey - not healthy looking, the salad consisted on a mound of lettuce 2 pieces of tomato and 4 thick slices of onion, no cucumber. The best part of the meal was the cheese garlic bread which was free. I ordered 2 tubs of ice cream when it arrived it was soft so I put it in freezer. I had requested 2 tubs of chocolate ice cream and got 1 cookie dough and 1 strawberry cheesecake of which I am not over keen. Usually ice cream from Kebab King is a 500ml tub for £2, ok not a big name brand but very nice all the same. Today I receive Ben and Jerrys 100ml tubs for £2 each. Personally I would have preferred the previous cheaper brand. The ice cream, when I went to eat it straight after my meal was too soft with a coat of ice around it. The strawberry I couldnt eat as when I took the top off it looked minging. I have taken a photo of the strawberry ice cream and will send it to whoever asks for it. I have always used Kebab King for a take away but I am dubious as to whether or not use them again. One very disappointed customer!!!

Visited today. The pub was undeservedly quiet. We sat in the bar area but enjoyed waitress service. We both had sandwiches. Sausages and onion; prawn cocktail. Both very good with pleasant salad garnish. Portions were a little on the large side but otherwise no complaints. Will visit again.

I don’t mind a long wait for fresh good food but this was just awful, poorly presented and fresh out of the microwave. Not cheap either. Waitress seemed pretty clueless as well. You’ve guessed it, I would not recommend at all and can’t understand the other good reviews perhaps an off day!

The plate was piled high with well-cooked (not over-cooked) vegetables, four slices of roast beef, crunchy roast potatoes and a beautiful Yorkshire pudding. All topped off with very tasty gravy. Excellent value at just under £14! Well worth a return visit!

Food was nice but waited almost 2 hours for delivery.
