Kimchi in Cardiff

Best and only good Korean place in Cardiff right now! These guys don’t get enough recognition, the food is fantastic and the service is warm, comforting and very timely! My favourite place to eat

It was our first Korean food experience. The management is friendly and the kimchi broth tastes really nice and refreshing. We also ordered fried rice and dumplings. Food was good.

Love this restaurant! Always amazing food. I eat in and take away, both are great. They are cash only, but will wait for someone in the party to pop around the corner to a bank machine. They're very hospitable. My favourite dish is the spicy udon & kimchi on the side. So lovely.

Excellent genuine Korean cuisine. A selection of Asian teas and soft drinks available. The portions were generous yet the bill was low. Friendly service and very tasty food. I would highly recommend and would go back again.

Kimchi is a lovely restaurant. I've been quite a few times now, and always been impressed. They're excellent with checking for food allergens, and helping with anything you don't understand. Price is extremely good for the amount of food you get! Highly recommend.

Food is always delicious here! I've been here couple of times for korean bbq and I always left full and happy! They have variety of traditional Korean foods and have a super quick service!!

Despite what it says here and on their website, it was cash only. This is really unacceptable in this day and age. No-one carries that amount of cash with them and it meant a soggy dash in torrential rain to a cashpoint further up the road. Requiring cash only, with no advance warning, risks people suspecting tax avoidance or money laundering! At the very least, it's profoundly unprofessional. At least warn your diners in advance! Food and service were average. Plentiful, at least.

Never left a review before but have to for my favourite place to eat! When i lived close enough i would order the udon noodles everyday, best ive ever had!!!

My First Time at Kimchi Restaurant & the service was very quick & staff was really friendly & constantly checking on us. The food was so incredible & had huge selection of South Korea food & soft drinks & alcohol & will visit again very soon

Really good food as usual, particularly the barbecue, the pancakes and the sizzling dishes. Atmosphere and staff communication could be a little better and it was a bit cold in the restaurant, but overall a decent time everytime we go to Kimchi.

The service was fast, attentive and friendly with the staff constantly checking on us. Food was incredible and they had a huge selection of soft and alcoholic drinks!

Sakura’s unrequited love for Sasuke was always a question Naruto fans wonder. Like why is this girl ‘simpin’ so bad that she lost most of her character development in the later arcs!? In any case, I understand her one sided love, kind of like my love for this restaurant. Sometimes, this place hurts my pocket and it makes my clothes smell but boy everything taste 10 out of 10. KBBQ, K fried chicken, Japchae and the Bibimbap. I am a total Sakura for this restuarant without a doubt.

We'd been visiting Cardiff from a way aways and really wanted to have some korean food. NB: The chicken is halal but not the meat. The food was lovely, staff were blisteringly fast and attentive and very friendly. When we come back to Cardiff we will definitely be coming back again. Please go here, you will not regret it.

Very local place you can feel the authentic character it still holds ☺️

The weather is cold, it shows that they will open at noon, we arrived at the restaurant at 12.05 pm but it is still closed. We try to knock the door and ring them, but no one answered. There was a man in the kitchen who saw us but just kept ignoring us still. If you don’t want to open business you can just shut. Not recommended

I enjoyed the Korean salad which doesn't have lettuce and tomatoes in it and the Korean ribs and I am happy to come back when I am in Canton again.

Overall food was OK. Bibimbab was a bit weird. Some of the vegetables in it were really sweet. With that kind of flavour, I'd rather just have fresh vegetables than the ones that's been marinated in sugar and juice. Hot pot was a bit overpriced, but still OK. One of the waitress there was a little impolite. I don't think I'll be returning to this place, at least any time soon.

Great food, lots of options. Also serving Souju in on ns other alchoholiv and non alcoholic drinks. They do take cards now, not just cash. Recommend a visit.

My favourite Korean restaurant. Amazing food

Ordered food delivery at this place and the food came without any cutlery, I called to solve the problem but the waitress who picked up the phone was SUPER RUDE. She blamed all this on me cause I didn’t give extra notice to ask for cutlery. Like what??? The delivery platform has extra notice if I didn’t need the cutlery but the default is you SHOULD give cutlery with food. I told her I don’t want to argue anything and just want to sort this out, she then told me if I need any cutlery I have to come to the restaurant and pick it up myself cause they are super busy. Wow, the RUDEST service I have ever experienced. Impressiveeee.

Bland food and the air extractors are just for show above of the grill because they don't work at all. Its cash only and you only know that when you get the bill. When telling the waiter you should have put a sign so people know it's a cash only restaurant, his response was " I only work here" the service overall wasn't nice and you could hear the staff argue in the kitchen between them. I definitely won't go there again or recommend. Please avoid this rude restaurant.

Food average, they do not take card payments, but they do not tell you this until it is time to pay for the bill.

Really good place for a Korean BBQ experience. Is not an all you cat eat however the proportions were very good. The only 2 bad things were that the place is small, 6 tables of 4 at most I think, and that they only accept cash. Other than that, a very good place! You can also take away your leftovers :)

Really delicious food. Had a squid bento and some mixed vegetables/salad. So good! Beautiful fresh flavours and portion sizes were just right.

I love Korean food so I was super excited to come here with my friends. The food arrived quickly and was decent, but not the most authentic Korean cuisine. While the chicken dumplings and bibimbap were enjoyable, the overall flavor was somewhat bland. Despite this, the portions were generous and definitely filling. The lack of a "cash only" sign was frustrating. We had to walk quite a distance to find an ATM to pay for our meal, which was an inconvenience.

This is the go to place in Cardiff if you love good food. I have never been disappointed with the food nor have any guests I have recommended this restaurant to. My recommendation is the udon noodles (meat of your choosing) with all the BBQ trimmings. Chimchi pancakes are a must. If you don't have to loosen your belt a notch upon leaving you aren't doing it right.

My family and I were looking for a perfect birthday place for me and we came across this Korean barbecue, we never tried Korean food so this was new to us, but this restaurant filled all our expectations and more! This place was beautiful, it was traditional and amazing, the server lady was so nice as well as the other servers, they were so polite and attentive to us and always made sure we were happy with what we got. Food wise it was delicious, the food was large in portions and seasoned beautifully. Everything was set out neatly and conveniently! 100% would recommend eating here, food, service and the building in itself was and is a 10/10!

I really love Kimchi. Their food is delicious and when dining in the grill it your self experience is unlike anything else in this city (they get bumped up a star for that). I wish you got the sides/accompaniments you get in other Korean bbqs which really ad something to the meal. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself is run down and from the outside, you'd probably think it was closed down. (bumped down a star for this for sure). It really doesn't compare to other Koren BBQ places in terms of style and service, and I really wish they'd revamp but they're always packed because there's nothing quite like it... and di I mention it's delicious?

Cool little place. Had a really enjoyable lunch. Well worth the short walk from the city centre. Very reasonable prices and great portions.

definite value for money as we got the assorted meat platter that was more than enough for two people, and relatively cheap for a Korean bbq. food was absolutely lovely and the restaurant was cozy, staff was lovely will definitely be visiting again if I ever find myself in Cardiff.

The restaurant is awesome and nice ambiance.service staff are really good.but we have an issue- one of the staff take off our food we didn’t finish of yet.there is one lady is really Bad with black dress who crossed me in my right side me(time 18:33 17/03/2023). I think she is the owner.🤌🏻

Went there for my birthday dinner for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. We sat upstairs. The food was great and was in large proportions which was even better. The servers were really nice and very quick too. It was a very informal environment which was nice and made me feel like I was eating at home. Only downside is they only take cash so I had to dig up my calculation skills (i still got it wrong)😂

Such fun to cook your own spicy barbecue meat on the cooker. The set meal was fabulous value for money and everything was delicious!

Firstly, a good tip...if you see a number of the same nationality of the restaurant dining there, it's going to be good. The rule bore out this time too. As first timers we approached confused, but decided to have a set meal to cover all bases. The spicy pork barbecue, kimchi, stone pot, pancake, chilli chicken, drink AND pudding represented excellent value for money and it was great fun cooking the pork, even if the other half wasn't sure whether she was coming or going most of the time! Some might see it as a "basic" set up, but we were more intereted in cooking and eating, rather than looking at pictures on the wall!

Went as a group of 8 at 9pm, which they weren't prepared for due to a mix up, when we were expected at 8pm... This didn't seem to make any problems and as a result service was swift. Food arrived sporadically, one person had 4 dishes and the rest of the table gradually being served whilst 1 person was yet to be served at all, however, it was amazing when everything arrived and with great variety, the same for tea which was served from tea pots! Some loud kids were playing video games during our meal, unfortunately the owners didn't seem attentive to their children, so the 4 stars is based on atmosphere and experience, but our experience was fab, very authentic Asian food for a westener here, I wouldn't know if authentic Korean honestly. All of us had dined and payed in less than 1hr 30 and had a good evening. Definitely would return.

Horrible place! All our clothes got oily and smoky smell! They served us with wrong order!!

This is a no thrills restaurant, with decent food. Staff are in plain clothes and kids play out the back, creating a family experience. We did beef and chicken bimipab, kimchi pancakes, dumplings, egg fried rice. Although we enjoyed cooking the food ourselves, you come away stinking of cooked food. This isn't 5 star dining nor is it advertised as that. Lost a star as we ushered out the door very prompty after finishing. Also accepting cash only is quite inconvenient in this day and age

Highly recommend. I always loved eating here, the food is very good, fresh and pretty big sizes. After having my baby i was afraid that they would be uncomfortable with bringing in a pram but they were very friendly. Love this place.

Dined here: Wednesday , 16 November Came here to celebrate my dad big 70 birthday! First time dining here , but have always walked past and wanting to dine here as I love Korean food! We did the Korean bbq meats ! Which was the ideal option for a big group off us and we love to share and try out all sorts!! We also ordered a few extra and it was just enough food for all off us! The food came out reasonably quick and the staff was very friendly - great customer service and we was well looked after! We bought in balloons and cake on the restaurant with us. We initially wanted to eat the birthday cake - but we was all full! But we took the cake out at the restaurant just for picture purpose and the staff was well accommodating and took pics off us. Thank you! Will happily dine here again and try other stuff on the menu that we didn’t get to try out!

I’m not a Cardiff resident but visit my friends their regularly and when home we usually have Korean food in Newcastle. Since we have never had Korean in Cardiff we decided to give this a try. The food and service was amazing and the restaurant is very simple and homely adding to the authentic atmosphere. Will definitely visit again!

Most dishes are decent :) relevantly fair price

Ok. So we *really* wanted to have a Korean BBQ and were so excited to see that there was one in Cardiff. There were some reviews that made us a bit worried but we tried it anyway. Note that they only accept cash. But there is a cash machine about 100m along the road. So really not a problem. I am so glad that we did. This is a small family run business. The staff were very courteous. The food was awesome. The place was super busy and this was mid week. We left having had a great meal and also felt so happy to have supported a small business rather than a random chain. Highly recommend.

The setting was very basic but the food was tasty and the staff were friendly. We had some really tasty food and would definitely return.

Ordered takeaway this time from Kimchi. For starters we ordered chilli chicken and chicken skewers. The chilli chicken was not spicy but sweet and the chicken skewers were average. We also ordered spicy seafood yaki soba and spicy chicken fried rice. The fried rice was nice and spicy. The yaki soba was the best... It was delicious with a nice spicy flavour and the noodles were well cooked!! The prawns were also cooked well and were juicy!

Easily my favourite Korean spot in Cardiff. No question the quality and care put into the food is second to none.

I was twenty five minutes after opening and wanted to buy wings but they were already out- turns out I have more wings in my House than a restaurant.

Service was amazing and really enjoyed the food.. I had my little boy with me and the staff were extra helpful helping him choose his meals made it more special for him

Order a spicy tofu soup which comes like hot water in a bunch of frozen seafood, and the taste is completely off. When we asked to return the food, the owner’s attitude was extremely awful and kept finding excuses, we had to pay for this awful food. A restaurant to avoid for life!

We got kimchi fried rice, kimchi pancake and veggie bibimbap. Fried rice was delicious, flavourful, reminded me of ones I had in Korea. Kimchi pancake was a little thicker than I was used to but still crispy and a great side to share. Friend got the bibimbap and enjoyed it thoroughly, though gochujang sauce is a little thin but not much of a bother. Man by the till is superbly friendly! It was a hot day and we were sat by the window and he asked whether we wanted to move closer to the air conditioning which was really nice 😊 Family vibe and had a nice chat with him. Cant wait to go back!

Overall pretty decent, but some of the food was a bit bland (kimchi was too light in taste). Service was ok, the waitress who served us was quite friendly. There’s a decent amount of meat with the BBQ items so it was very filling. The quality of the meat was on par with the price we paid. I had to ask for ssamjang (sauce you have with the meat), which I would have expected to have come with the food as default, but they provided on request. Value was not bad for the meat, but I find the sides expensive, especially considering they are mediocre.

Unimpressed. Horrible tasting food. Worst kimchi, not fermented. The 5 star reviews are clueless people never tasted real Korean food or even real food. People that burn their salads.

Unfortunately the food is bland. Kimchi pancake was bizarre. Too much batter. No real grills, just a flat cooktop. However, kimchi fried rice is nice and the rice cakes are good but need a thicker sauce.

Was here with a few friends. To say we left disappointed is an understatement; it was an abysmal experience compared to what we expected from the reviews. Half of the cushion of the chair I was on seems to have withered away and vaporized due to the countless people having sat on it for 10+ years. The whole place seemed a little neglected. The food itself wasn't very close to being authentic, it was meh. One of our stoves was not working and they suggested to split up 2 group members onto a separate table in a distant corner - in what world is that the default response for a group trying to have dinner, *together*!? Also they did not seem to understand the concept of cross-contamination of meals due to dietary requirements. The service team has a lot to learn, there were even more problems beside this. Felt like I was an annoyance, not a customer. Definitely do not recommend going here - it is lacking in everything you want from a nice place to enjoy a meal at. I will be socially distancing myself from this restaurant, far far away at a competitor's.

This place is not run by Korean people. They don’t know how to serve Korean food at all.

wonder why this restaurant has so many good reviews on Google. very disappointing food and services. it is not authentic Korean food but more like random Asian food and definitely not worth coming. Meat was not fresh and kimchi tasted very weird, while the waitress is not even clear what's on the menu and obviously lacks training. She even split the meat sauce on my pant which was so annoying. DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL!

Booked a table for 10 and was seated at a table with 3 grills, which one of them doesn't work. Requested to change the table as our friend has dietary requirement and can't cross-contaminate grilling plate. We were told that she could sit by herself in another table at the corner. Absolutely appalling. Then when the food arrives, they have mistakenly put an wrong order of meat platter onto our table. We didn't notice and started cooking it, then strike 2, the waitress came, took the uncooked raw meat away (which is fair enough), THEN also grabbed the cooked meat off our grill! Apart from the fact that it's extremely rude, I can definitely imagine they re-using our half-cooked chicken for someone else's dishes. LET'S TALK ABOUT HYGIENE?! Just to round this "lovely" experience up, when the waitress was collecting dirty dishes, she just carelessly poured half dish of raw seafood marinate onto my friend's trousers, didn't even offer an apology or napkin. NEVER AGAIN.

The worse service I got in the UK. We were 10 people and they sit us in a place where one of the bbq heaters was not working, so we had to move and squeeze ( they wanted to separate the group and sit us in two tables). When the food was arriving, we started cooking all when the waitress came and took the food from our hands and the bbq heater since she mistakenly brought us the incorrect order. SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL! To finish the bad experience, when tidy up the used plates, the same waitress split raw fish sauce into my pants as she did not even try to be careful. NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE! The food was also not authentic and not as tasty as the review says. I would not recommend this place!

One of the best places I've eaten in Cardiff. I recommend the set meals on the back of the menu as they provide a variety of things to try. Their beef bulgogi is some of the best beef I've ever tasted.

The meat platter at kimchi is the best… I loved the flavours on the pork and beef 🤤. Great value for money, £100.00 for 5 of us. Friendly staff and very quick to serve us.

I wish I had seen reviews before I went. Not style of Korea. I think this restaurant is similar to Korea food. Style of korea food is that should serve side dish and a glass of water to customer from first.

Its OK, due to the hype I was excited but it turned out to be pretty poor service waiting for sauce/dip refills took extremely long and other factors within the restraunt was causing issues with our food service.

Wonderful assortment of meat and seafood to grill at the table with tasty condiments. Barley tea is delicious. Everything is fresh and service is friendly. Cash only.

Think it’s overrated. Surroundings: We were the first table on that day, the whole restaurant smell like greasy and feel like you can squeeze oil from the air which is unpleasant. The baking tray doesn’t look hygienic at all, covered with a black rubber thing? I have no idea. Second, unlike other Korean restaurants if you been to any one in Korea, they don’t provide cold water and any side dish.(like kimchi, pickled veggies) Bright side: for Barbecue, they provide a basket of lettuce and some sauces which are nice. And also spicy pork was so gooood! 😲Rid eye was okay. Sadly kimchi is the only place you can go if you wanna try Korean barbecue and stuff. I personally probably won’t go there again, don’t trust their food hygiene at all.
