I visited Ivy Asia for lunch with a friend. I had previously visited with my partner for a special occasion, at which we had a great time but found the food, especially the small plates, overpriced for the quality, which was no better than any other Asian fusion restaurant in town. On this visit, I had booked ahead and despite a voicemail confirming my booking time of 1pm, the confirmation email wrongly stated another date at 2pm. I was unable to reach the restaurant to double check despite calling multiple times. On arriving there was no one at the host desk although we were soon shown to our seats. The ambience and décor is undeniably amazing and the seating is comfortable- I like the booth seating as it feels a bit more cosy. This time I thought the food was great- I had sesame prawn toast, yasai tempura which was my favourite dish and was a good portion size, and char siu pork fried rice. We also had the Xian Spritz from the limited Moon Festival cocktail menu, which was lovely. Our waiter was incredibly friendly, attentive and polite and the other serving staff were very efficient. However the food did not come out as quickly as it could have, which soon became important. We were given dessert menus and the cocktail menu was brought back for me to browse. I was intending on ordering dessert and another drink. However our waiter soon returned to advise us our table time was up and we would need to move to the bar for any more drinks and that we could not have dessert. He was completely apologetic and polite and indicated his manager had made him say this. We immediately asked for the bill as we had no intention of spending any more money if we could not stay at the table, and we asked for the service charge to be removed. While I appreciate that the table time is stated on booking, it is less than many other restaurants offer at 1 hour and 45 minutes, which is not a long time when you consider multiple dishes, drinks and conversation. We did not eat slowly- we could only eat the food as quickly as it was brought out, and there was a gap between the tempura and the main dishes. I think the practice of booking as many customers as possible and effectively throwing sitting customers out at the first opportunity to make it work is the sign of a restaurant that is hype over substance. I have never been removed from any other restaurant for reasons of timing and certainly not when about to order another course. Despite the beautiful setting, attentive wait staff and good food, I simply won't be returning to a restaurant where I have to pay upwards of £50pp in order to eat as quickly as possible or get kicked out, and where they have the cheek to add a service charge or ask if you want to spend more at the bar after being removed from your table.

Had a really lovely meal at the Ivy Asia this afternoon. We were really looked after by Eve (Evie). Fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Wow wow wow everything is wow Our first visit blown away with ambience DJ playing , electric violinist , staff very very attentive , food looked and tasted delicious , can’t wait to return

My daughter and i went for afternoon tea here today and what a treat. From start to finish beautiful everything. The food was out of this world, the set up was beautiful so was the surroundings. We were treated wonderful in there and had a great time. We ordered 2 extra small sides of savoury plates to go with the tea, we had a cocktail which was delicious, plenty of tea and coffee and sweet treats, plus water on the table, it was a feast. All together for it all with the service charge it came to £120, it was well worth the money.

I recently dined at Ivy Asia Cardiff for my wife's birthday and was thoroughly impressed by both the food and customer service. From the moment we entered, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming. The menu was diverse, offering a great selection of Asian-inspired dishes that were bursting with flavor. A special mention goes to RAM, who truly enhanced our dining experience. RAM not only recommended outstanding dishes but also took the time to understand our dietary requirements, providing thoughtful alternatives to suit our needs. His knowledge of the menu and personalized service made our meal all the more enjoyable. The food itself was impeccable — fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Excellent experience , after a poor experience in Bath’s Ivy , what a pleasure to dine at the Ivy Asia in Cardiff! From start to finish it was a joy , we ate there pre concert , we arrived early which was no problem to the staff . We’re were taken to our table where Will was our server , he was exemplary, one of us had an allergy and he checked repeatedly and updated us repeatedly after checking thoroughly with the kitchen etc. The small plate menu was excellent, the wine perfect and the service from Will and his colleague in black was professional, friendly ,attentive and non evasive . They knew the art of great service. The dishes we had were excellent, full of flavour and well presented. Thank you for a great experience

Blown away by the atmosphere, decor and the attentiveness of the staff. I have an allergy and the staff clearly communicated this to the kitchen and triple checked everything (seen in photos). The menu provided an excellent selection to choose from and was clearly presented (accessible on the website, too). There were theatrical elements to add to the fun and the presentation was crisp and pleasant. We had a set menu (The Ivy Asia Premium Experience Menu - £48 per person) and could not finish all of the courses. It was a perfect recommendation for a first-time visit, though! It's a great way to sample many dishes and flavours. I recommend the pork and kimchi gyozas and the salt and pepper beef fillet. Perfect for a special occasion- Can't wait to go back!

Really worth a visit. Our server Archie was helpful, the food was delicious, and the decoration was fantastic! Had some lovely vegetarian options as well as the meat and fish. Perfect for a treat night.

We had a fabulous lunchtime experience here; the atmosphere was delightful. We were served by Bethany who made our experience perfect. Everything about my evening was perfect. I came here for a meal with my family to celebrate my 18TH birthday. Perfect atmosphere as whole family was blown away by not only the food but the decorations and amazing service. Made my 18TH birthday so special and I will never forget this night. I shared 5 small plates and one small nibble starter and found that to be plenty of food with a dessert as well. I would highly recommend the boba cocktails, mochi desert and popcorn shrimp. All around worth the price.

First time visiting the ivy Asia today. First impressions was what a lovely place until - we sat down. We had our drinks ordered taken and all was normal. We then placed our food order and another round of drinks. Our starters came out wrong half of the table in the corner lost their food because it was given to us and it was the wrong food. We then reminded them of our drinks order. And then again, And then again, Our food came out the chicken was raw and then followed by the raw salmon I know it's Asian food but it was meant to be cooked. We asked for the bill as we wanted to leave, our drinks then came- 40 mins later. We asked for the manager as we weren't happy with our service. They said we won't charge you for the 2 meals that we didn't eat as a good will gesture? Wow. because we sent them back because they were raw - was they expecting us to pay undercooked food ? and then on our bill we had a service charge of £20. Couldn't write it. Would I visit again absolutely not. It was all out of sync and the general manager didn't even visit our table to apologise.👎 After contacting the email address below I had nothing back from them after my complaint, in denial.

I have been lucky enough to have been to a few Ivy restaurants over the years and they always have good service and food. This was my first Ivy Asia experience and have to say that the service was impeccable and setting almost breath taking. The food how ever is normal. Nothing wrong with that but it just didn't match the opulent surroundings. I just expected more. I had Prawn toast, aromatic duck pancakes and duck massaman curry. All good and no complaints but it just didn't wow me. Sorry I just expected more. I am lucky to have a decent Thai restaurant near me in Chipping sodbury. OK it doesn't have the setting or service but the food is similar. So Ivy Asia Cardiff, is it worth it. Honestly yes just for the decor drama and service. They do make you feel special. The floor is amazing 👏

My boyfriend & I visited the Ivy Asia Cardiff for my birthday meal - this was the second time we’d been. For me, it’s a ‘special occasion’ place, the interior is absolutely gorgeous and everything just feels luxurious. The food is insane with a real variety of dishes. Bethany, you made our experience particularly special last night so thank you. You are a credit to your team and your passion shines through in your work. 10/10 recommend this place if you’re in Cardiff and fancy something special!

Our table attendant Kelly, was insanely attentive. She never walked past a table without making eye contact or clearing dirty items away. Extremely friendly, and demonstrated good rapport with colleagues which is refreshing to see. Overall we could not fault Kelly or the attention to detail for our Anniversary dinner. The Ivy Asia, Cardiff is our favourite restaurant in the UK and this is down to the exceptional service, atmosphere and service. Many Thanks to Kelly and the team. (The Franklins)

Visited Sat 24th August to celebrate my 50th birthday with my husband and son… We had a selection of small plates, all were delicious… I had the Wagu steak for main…it was sensational. Rhys our server was professionally attentive, an all round pleasant young man! He even brought out a birthday dessert as a treat. I love both the Ivy restaurants in Cardiff and will always visit to celebrate an occasion in style!

Fantastic meal and evening at the Ivy Asia. It was by far the best Ivy we’ve been to out of several. Every course was absolutely 1st rate and terrific value for the quality of food. We had some of the best table service we’ve had at any restaurant from Heini who matched the perfect amount of professionalism and friendliness. Would strongly recommend and will come again.

Incredible! So child friendly! Thr child menu gave her more food than me and her face lit up when she had the dry ice flowing around! Such an experience! My food was also delicious! Only thing to be aware of is the spice level. Most things very spicy so food options are very limited. But my salmon was perfect but not on the lunch menu so it made my lunch experience much more expensive than I had intended. But they tried to be super accommodating. Also note....the kids eat free offer does not include dessert. I didn't know this and you can't say no when they would like it and her dessert was more expensive than my adult one....I'm pretty sure it's the same sized desserts I would usually drop a star due to the above but the food was amazing and the staff were lovely so they can keep all the stars

Had an amazing time at the Ivy Asia for my mates birthday. We had two wagyu steaks were lovely, starters were also great - gochu chang chicken and a wagyu steak skewer, and a couple of cocktails. Served by Lauryn who was on the ball the whole time, sorting our every need and is an absolute asset to your front of house. 10/10 service, atmosphere and food. Already booked in our next visit. Fantastic meal tonight at the Ivy Asia in Cardiff, 3 small plates and a side dish each was more than enough…. Every plate had fantastic flavours, superb presentation. The waitress Kelly was brilliant, very knowledgable, right level of assistance, friendly and helpful. The venue itself just had stunning interior design, even down to the toilets, beautiful!

The welcome, atmosphere and food was great! Our fave was the sushi chef!! As it was our special occasion/ anniversary which was mentioned on booking and asked twice by staff on arrival, we had nothing to signify this eg a desert or plate to say this. Obviously I know busy times may not allow this, but we had booked an earlier slot in the evening and travelled far. This would have been the cherry on the top of the experience. The waitress was nice but forgot our earlier food request so when mentioned, she asked us to wait whilst she could again… ‘see what she could do’. I knew she would forget again as she started seeing a number of tables behind us. Next time I would want to know that for a special occasion eg birthday or special anniversary something special would be done especially when paying for a top service.

Just me and the wife . It was amazing as usual . We had the £22.50 2 course meal and added a few extra dishes . The presentation was amazing and the taste out of this world . Our waiter Alex was very pleasant and seemed to have time for us . When the bill came wow it was a big one but to be fair we ordered it and ate it and drank it . Will definitely return when we’ve saved up a bit

We went for the Graduation Set Menu in July. Excellent dining experience.

Food excellent 8 for dinner all said the same . The presentation was superb the taste divine . The atmosphere whilst I love the whole Cafe del mar vibe and toe tapped along it destroyed conversation perhaps a quieter room for those who prefer the art of conversation over what was great tunes but up too far volume wise . So why the poor mark . I insist that this is an inherently management problem we see it a lot . Poorly trained low paid staff with sullen faces a lack of pride in their jobs . All our waitresses had these qualities. Train better pay more , for sure your prices reflect that you do/should but are failing . On arrival reception staff carried on chatting for almost a full minute before attending to us 8 crammed in your foyer . Again poorly trained and disinterested. Will revisit as we normally do within the year and report any improvement or not . Although potentially a great venue I'm not rushing back . Nearly 800 pounds I think deserved good well trained waiting staff . Perhaps the management structure needs attention?
