The Ivy Asia Cardiff in Cardiff

We usually go to the Ivy next door but as we both love Asian food we decided to book here this year for Mother's Day. We arrived a little early and sat at the bar for a pre-lunch drink. The bar staff were lovely but working so fast, there was inevitable spillage and some water and ice spilt onto us. Apologies were made and our glasses were topped up free of charge. We were 15 mins late being shown to our booked 1pm table as the previous diners hadn't yet left. Having booked in January it was a little disappointing to be seated in the middle of tables rather than a nice corner seat and even more so that we were seated next to 4 burly loud rugby supporters. Don't get me wrong I love rugby and the pre-match excitement and jovial atmosphere that brings. But on mother's day when you have made an effort to dress up we were looking forward to a nice lunch where you can hear your own conversation. I asked discreetly if we could move but were told they were full. So we had to spend our lunch (as did the ladies the other side who also noted) listening to four rowdy opinionated men who thought nothing wrong of peppering their conversation loudly and frequently with the F word. When my (82 year old) mother spoke to them politely to stop they scowled at her and said they weren't doing anything wrong. As they were leaving, I told the Maitre D who took the drinks off our bill and apologised. He said he would have spoken to them but after we already had, I doubt they would have listened. The service and food were top notch. I would especially recommend the Dragon experience dinner for two. The Beef Tataki, Seared Salmon, Char Sui Belly Pork and doughnut desert were stand out dishes but it was all delicious. The pre-main food did all come out rather quickly so we asked our lovely server if we could slow things down before the mains and pudding which was done. It's a shame that such a lovely setting, fantastic food and service was spoiled by some people who don't know how to behave in a restaurant. It would have been 5 stars otherwise.

All the staff were so lovely, great service from all. The door and reception staff, manager and in particular Chelsea and Finn who served us. Food was lush, the decor was incredible. Thank you so much ☺️

Lovely decor, enticing menu and an assumption that service and food would be to Ivy standards , it wasn’t. From the hundreds of restaurants visited , this languishes at the bottom for us . The staff work hard, but the service was poor and inconsistent , the menu is “tapas” style so food will just turn up whenever , and due to this, some family members sat there without food for a long time as they waited for their dishes. Sides or extras can be ordered, which we did, but as there is no normal flow of food to the table, these were waisted as wrongly assumed they would come out with the dishes . So were uneaten . The food quality wasn’t great , and at a cost of c£90 pp it definitely is not an experience I’d recommend or will revisit

Living two hours away from this restaurant, we are unable to go as frequently as we would like! It fulfils everything needed for fine dining. And from other visits here I can vouch that it also caters for amazing evening meals. As a couple, a family or a fun filled night with friends it ticks all the boxes. the wonderfully attentive staff are a joy but in particular Pat she is such a wonderful host. She goes above and beyond her job description. Samuel (our almost 10 year old) was given a choice of where to eat before heading home after our evening in Cardiff and without hesitation said Ivy Asia, maybe Pat will be working. That says it all really. Great food, great vibes in a great decor.

Great place,lovely vibe and the decor very althentic ,we had set menu experience which was great as it took the decisions of what to try out your hands and you get to try dishes that you may not pick but which were so nice and well presented on the plate to share and plenty of it the food just kept coming we had a really nice waitress called Megan that served us definitely recommend this place especially for a special occasion

This was my first visit to an Ivy Asia. Driven by their seasonal (spring festival period) dim sum menu. I wasn’t disappointed . We ordered all eight available dishes every one of them was good. We’ll be back to try their other menus it was a very nice experience.. Our server Chelsea really understands what makes a nice customer experience. overall this restaurant does little things well. You can check in your coats at the entrance, the service is attentive without being intrusive. I’ll be back

The room is spectacular and the service, les by our waitress Maja, was excellent. We had an allergy on our table and great care was taken over the order and the service - in fact, every dish served had an allergy flag in it. Really enjoyed the food and the sharing concept. It’s obviously the place to be as it was packed, even mid-week. Plenty of people taking photos of the food and scenery for their social feeds told you it was special for them as well. Will be back!

My wife & I had a fantastic meal at the Ivy Asia Cardiff today. The food was first class as was the ambiance. An extremely lovely setting and the staff were truly amazing. It was our first time here and both Sophie & Mia who served us were extremely helpful with menu advice and socially engaging. Fantastic members of staff who provided brilliant service which you often do not get these days. A big thank you to the chefs too as they often don’t get the credit from customers as they are not customer facing. Amazing food particularly the chr sui pork belly & the aromatic half duck. Delicious. Highly recommend

Some good things about this restaurant, but today service details let them down along with a couple of things about the food. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside, you definitely feel special when you’re greeted at the front door and seated. Our drinks order (glass of wine and a beer) was taken shortly after seating but unfortunately we hadn’t received them by the time our starters arrived, and we had to ask again for them. This happened again when we ordered the ‘same again’ as our starter plates were cleared, but drinks still hadn’t come when our mains were served. Again we had to ask for them. We were actually sat with no water left, and no liquid in our glasses for about 15 minutes at the midpoint of the meal, and no one asked if we wanted more drinks, we initiated the request. The water was never refilled. Food wise, the tuna sashimi and prawn tempura were delicious. The blackened cod was quite tasty but at the same price as a spectacular turbot main dish we’d had at Thomas by Tom Simmonds on Friday night, definitely was not worth £30+. My chickpea curry was tasty however didn’t contain many chickpeas or other vegetables- it was mostly a liquid sauce. Given that chickpeas cost literally pennies I did feel cheated by this. We were going to order dessert as I was still hungry, but changed our mind after waiting quite a long time to being asked. On this occasion not up to the standards of other Ivy and Ivy Asia restaurants we’ve visited unfortunately.

We visited here for a ‘galentines’ meal, when we booked my sister checked the GF options online and they were very poor but she decided she’d come anyway as we all wanted to try it, when we arrived we were greeted by a lovely man called Alex, he went through the menu and explained all the GF options, when you scan the barcode as is suggested it only brings up 1 or 2 items however Alex was amazing and went into detail what was available and wasn’t to my sister he definitely made the experience better for us, we all had the duck to share and it was insane!! 😍 we had drinks and sides as well and they were all incredible. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, not only was it beautiful food with very attentive staff member but the setting was stunning also!!
