Kenno's in East Devon

I asked for a cream tea for two and was told it was £12 for one scone each and a mug, but if I wanted a pot for two and two scones it would be £18. I queried this and was told by two assistant that was right. How can that be right? Ridiculously overpriced even if it cost £12 with a pot. The scone was out of a packet and heated up (probably to soften it up) and wasn’t that thrilling!

I have been coming down to Beer for 20 years and have pretty much been to Kennos each time. I can honestly say breakfast at Kennos on the beach at Beer is one of my favourite things. It's good honest grub, but with a beautiful view. The pic was taken from my seat at Kennos

Hate writing negative reviews but midway midway through eating found a black curly hair (looked like beard hair) on my tomato in the side salad on my fish and chips. The counter was real busy and I didn't want to embarrass the staff or make a scene so I left it and just ate the chips and fish. I went to the counter after the que had gone and said I just wanted to let them know there was a black hair on my tomato. The girl just said oh I will let them know (no apology). I thought I would give them 5 minutes to think of what to do. I was in no way expecting a full refund but perhaps one meal back or at least an ice cream for my daughter would've been fine. Nothing. No one came out, offered anything or even apologised. My older brother then went to buy some cake and hot drinks for his long journey home, which would've been a perfect opportunity to just give it on the house as a token of gesture. Nothing. This is a big shame as it's basic management/customer service skills and the food was actually ok. They all looked very young in there so perhaps need someone with a bit of experience or someone with initiative.

Ordered two toasties, overpriced, poorly presented. Garnish consisted of one slice of tomato and one slice of cucumber. Ingredients tasted very average.Staff were friendly enough but couldn’t make up for poor quality of food.

Good afternoon everyone, just a quick note to those wanting to enjoy their break on Beer Beach. Unfortunately, it seems that the more ‘experienced’ gentleman who collects payment for using a deck chair has refused to attend the ‘customer care’ training session! Not only is he rude, intemperate and down right obnoxious he feels as though he can try and ‘intimidate’ older members of our family who were more than willing to oblige the ‘invitation to treat’ and pay for the use of said chair. While I believe he may, like the other wonderful businesses on the beach, have an arrangement to charge for the use of his chairs it does not mean he ‘owns’ the beach or has the right to speak to others with such distaste. As a result of this interaction and his unpleasant manner over the past few days, I feel obliged to warn fellow beach goers. Having frequented this wonderful part of Devon for over 45 years as a respectful tourist, I have two recommendations 1. Customers use the services of other businesses on the beach as they warmly welcome (with a smile) your custom 2. Kenno’s afford employees the experience of a ‘customer care’ training session! Enjoy your visit to this wonderful part of the country everyone!

Wonderful beach location. Friendliest team full of bonhomie. Good unpretentious food and coffee in proper mugs. Speedy service. Take your tray and leftovers back to help them and keep the beach tidy.

Minimum £10 on card. With contactless fees so low and COVID encouraging people to be cashless not impressed it’s £10 minimum for contactless.

Ate here three times... breakfasts were good. Great cup of tea. Service was fast. Area was nice and clean. Staff friendly. We rented a beach hut one day which was excellent value. View is fantastic. What more do you need to start your day ?

What a lovely little find, we visited on the first day of our holiday and unfortunately just had to keep coming back :) the food is lovely (especially the crab sandwiches and the full English) but what makes this lovely place so special is the wonderful staff, they are the friendliest bunch I’ve ever met at a cafe, so genuine and smiley. We also hired a beach hut from them for 2 days which I strongly recommend doing. Can’t wait to return, they really made it special

Stopped by late afternoon just before closing for a cup of tea. Nice and strong, served in a mug. Picnic bench seating in the sun overlooking the fishing boats. What more could you want

First time visitors, took a trip to Beer for father's day fish & chips early lunch only to find the renowned local chippy was shut...so opted to try one of the beach cafes instead. Despite being sceptical about quality of the fish n chips, we saw they were priced at just short of £8 per portion so went with it. Big mistake - could have enjoyed better quality at home seriously. Oven chips & what we are certain was frozen fish cut in triangular shapes. No flavour, very little fish. Should be removed from the menu we felt. Can't comment on rest of their food, judging by reviews on here I'm sure on the whole it's very good. The staff and venue with benches on the beach were nice, but please don't order fish & chips here!!!

Popped to Beer with my partner as a last minute drive out. We ended up going down onto the beach and dining at Kennos. The picnic benches on the beach are perfectly spaced out and felt very safe. The food was excellent value for money and delicious so we ended up going again the following day non the first day we had one of the wraps from the specials board and a breakfast bap which were lovely. The second day we took another family member and had a jacket potato, sausage egg & chips and a fish & chips (which I highly recommend). Excellent choice of delicious ice creams as well as cakes too. The service was fast and very friendly. It’s a great little find and we will most certainly be back through the season.

What's not to like about sitting on a Devon Beach drinking tea and eating sandwiches stuffed with fresh crab followed by home made cake? If that's what you are into then you must visit Kennos. Furry four legged friends are welcome too. What an absolute gem right on the beach. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks Flo and team

We had brunch here on a beautiful sunny day, it was delicious and in a beautiful setting with a view of the sea. We received a friendly greeting and the service was great!

We always head to Kenno's on Beer beach, when we holiday there. Lovely drinks and snacks at reasonable prices and grab a picnic table, on the beach, for lovely views out to sea.

Where do I start? Ordered my food at 10:42 am. Was told my simple bacon bap was going to take 15-20 mins. I thought that’s okay, it’ll proper take a shorter amount of time. 50 minutes later, my food still hadn’t arrived. To say I was disappointed is a complete understatement. I will certainly be using Chapples for the remainder of my holiday in Beer. Karen

Couldn’t fault the ladies at Kenno’s. Absolutely fantastic in every way and the food was excellent too. Bit disappointed that they broke the weather on our last day and that they hadn’t saved me a Cherry Bakewell Flapjack . Lovely people, great service and brilliant food. Thank you

We went to Kennos when they were doing takeaway only 3 days before the end of lockdown from the corona virus. We ordered 2 crab sandwiches . As locals we took them home and were disappointed with the tiny amount of filling. There was about a tablespoon in the centre of the slice which was then spread . There was literally nothing in the back or corners. For £6.00 each it was an extremely mean portion.I am afraid I won’t be going there again.

Set right on the beach, with matting to stop you sinking into the pebbles this is a great place for a snack.  I had a sausage egg and bacon bap, others had a toasted tuna melt with fries and  a  cream tea.  At £20.50 for the three of us good value.

Arrived early for breakfast at Kenno's on Beer beach. 5 of us all chose either a cooked full English or baps. Mine was rather spoilt by the fact that the HP sauce was most definitely NOT the real McCoy. I understand they need to keep costs down but putting something in a bottle marked HP is surely contravening the trade descriptions act?

This is a great cafe right on the beach at Beer.Lovely place with lots of seating which serves reasonably priced food and drinks. It has a good comprehensive menu and the staff are lovely and friendly.This is the one we head to every time we visit Beer.

We had relatives from Australia over and were looking for places to go. We were going to Sidmouth but had been told about Beer. we looked up cafes on the beach Kenno's had good reviews, so opted to go there. Very glad we did, breakfast was lovely, and the staff were so friendly too! Thankyou very much!

Always use Kenno's for breakfast after an early mornings Paddleboard.. Staff are always without fail, happy, cheerful and welcoming...

While staying at Beerhead last weekend, we decided to spend saturday on the beach as the weather was going to be great. we started our day with Breakfast on the beach. out of all 3 beach hut style Cafe's Kenno's is our favourite. Breakfast was well presented good value and came with two slices of toast. My daughter decided to have a scone with jam and cream. the scone was fresh and came with a good serving of Cream and a little pot of jam she enjoyed the freshly made Smoothie think she went for the Big 5 which was made fresh to order. breakfast was served in a timely manner and was hot it was nice that all our food came together.... coffee is good and very good value.

Having sampled all three beach restaurants I can safely say Kenno's is the best VFM breakfast. The ingredients come out on top too. I can also recommend their toasties. Always a friendly crew in the kitchen as well as front of house.

Dropped in here for coffee. Good coffee, great location on Beer beach and plenty of outdoor seating. I think it closes for autumn and winter

Been going to beer for donkeys years and one of the definite highlights is eating breakfast on the beach at kennos. Accessed by recycled conveyer belts to stop feet, wheels and paws coming in to contact with the stony beach. The two girls who run it, with their ever rotating band of staff and husbands, are lovely friendly people. They open at 9am as long as it's not tipping down. We go for the sausage bacon and mushroom baps with large mugs of steaming tea. As the day progesses more ice cream and lunches are served. We also had very enjoyable sausage egg and chips at about 4pm one day which was great. Ladies keep on keeping on and we'll see you again in July. ... Can't wait.! Dog friendly

Kenno's is a real find if you take time to walk along the cobbles to the last beach cafe. Wonderful friendly service and what a treat to sit by the sea at the table and chairs and smell the breakfast cooking or take a mug of tea down to the shoreline with a slice of cake in a deck chair.We recently asked if they would host a little wedding party for us one evening and they did us proud. Lovely little beach café to the far left as you wander down to the beach. Really friendly staff including the seasonal student helpers. Great range of sandwiches and rolls all day and great mugs of tea.

Breakfast on the beech sun shining food freshly cooked spotless clean great service for the lunchtime menu great selection and able to take away on tray to sit and eat by the sea fantastic!

We frequently walk with our dog over from Seaton Hole to Beer and have breakfast on the beach at Kenno's. They do the best breakfast sandwiches, and are the loveliest people in the cafes on Beer beach!

When you are sitting on the beach having breakfast with the sea behind, things don't get much better. Maybe a little more sunshine would help but that wasn't on Kenno's menu. Freshly cooked breakfast was on the other hand and very tasty and filling it was. Great job Kenno's, will be back when next in Beer.
