It’s always a pleasure to return to this delightful family run establishment, you are always greeted like an old friend, the service is excellent as are the tea and cakes and the measures which have been put in place to protect visitors from COVID infection are first class, I am delighted that this lovely tea room and galllery has been able to weather the storm and reopen its doors.

A welcome stop off midway on our walk from Sheringham NT Park. Our table, set between book shelves and bric-a-brac was perfectly social distanced from other customers and we enjoyed a large pot of tea with homemade gluten free carrot cake. A warm welcome and good adaptations at this strange time.

We often drive passed Kelling Reading Room, promising that we’ll call in 1 day, & today was that day. Late afternoon drive back from Hillside Animal Sanctuary. Carpark was full- good sign, but 1 left so room for us. Outside seating available. Entered into the first seating area, also the food display, cakes, & the counter. Greeted with a smile from the gentleman there, & when asked he confirmed: we can sit where we like, order & pay at the counter. A sign informed us: credit card payments accepted over £10. We sat at a table in the next room. It’s true- you’re seated in & amongst books, pictures & paintings, collectables, nick-nacks, things you haven’t seen in years, & things you didn’t know you needed! There were a few subtle Christmas decorations. We enjoyed looking around as we enjoyed our Tea, cheese scone and slice of Victoria sponge cake. Tea: served in a pot for 2; plenty for us, with cups & saucers, milk jug, & a pot of hot water for topping up! Cheese scone: warm, light & fluffy inside, & tasted really good, with more than enough butter. Looking back, some chutney on the side would have made it even better- just a personal suggestion. Sponge cake: tasty, light, fluffy & a nice sized portion. Bill: £9.25p. Service was really friendly & quick. We heard customers referred to by name, & real, proper, conversations between staff & customers. No,there are no lattes/cappuccinos/etc., but actually that was nice, & the Tea really was good (& I’m a latte/cappuccino drinker!).

6 of us visited for lunch. It was an intriguing experience eating in a library / shop / cafe. However the staff were very helpful, the pots of tea and coffees hit the spot, and the fantastic pasties were just the job for the hungry traveller. Unfortunately we had no room for cake. Maybe next time. A charming and delightful experience.

We picked this out from Trip Advisor reviews and found it a little gem and quite unlike anywhere else we had ever been. The inside is filled with paintings, china and glass, second hand books and all sorts. Also it's a tea room and does lunch as well. We had coffee ( very average) no lattes or fancy stuff here. Cake selection was extensive although I've had better. Lots to look at around this popular tea room. Not quite sure how you view all its stock without people having to get up from their tables...! Friendly staff. Charmingly eccentric. A really different place.

After a short break in Norfolk with my mum & toddler, we were on the coast road heading to Weybourne when we had a tyre blow out. Thankfully we were near the Reading Rooms who really helped to save the day. Without their help I wouldn’t have been able to find the number of the recovery service, nor call them. They couldn’t have been more helpful and after a much needed cup of tea and we were back in the car waiting, came to check we were ok and recommended a safer spot (The Pheasant Hotel down the road, who were also brilliant) to move the car to. All members of staff were really lovely and made a rubbish situation that bit better! Thank you so much!

Both of us had baked potatoes and some garnish. Both of us remarked on the small size of them, served on small plates. The apple pie which we have had before also seemed a bit smaller portion wise. We have been here many times, and have never been disappointed. However, we feel they MAY be doing what many eating places are doing nowadays which is to serve smaller portions on smaller plates?? Probably we were just unlucky on the day? The antique/book/paintings areas are interesting. Would we go back? Well, I`m not sure at this stage. This meal was not worth the price for what we received,so probably not. They seem popular so I`m sure they will survive. They are warm and friendly and do make you feel at home.

After visiting Cley bird reserve where the food prices are, to say the least, ambitious, both myself and my wife popped along to the Kelling Reading Rooms for a drink and a bite to eat after being recommended to it by some fellow bird watchers. We found the choice of menu to be good and varied with a nice display of cakes and pastries on display. We both enjoyed our food and drinks along with an hour long natter with one of the locals who was also eating at the cafe. The cost was very reasonable and roughly equivalent to our own Midland prices which is unusual, especially for this part of Norfolk where inflated London prices often seem to be in vogue! The art, book and antique aspect is very eclectic and quirky but adds to the uniqueness of the cafe. All in all a nice friendly and unpretentious place to spend a while. We would have no hesitation in returning at some point.

Great for afternoon tea and for snacks. They had the best choice of cakes we have seen in North Norfolk. They have parking hidden round the back, which we had not noticed before, even though we have driven past dozens of times. The place is also bigger inside than you would expect from outside. The only complaint I have, if that is the right word, is why does a tea room close at 4 in the afternoon? As regular visitors from London, we are really surprised at how early the tea rooms in N Norfolk all seem to close. We are usually just starting to feel peckish at 4.30, maybe 5, and there's nowhere open for afternoon tea! :)

When you have visited the various delights of the North Norfolk coast, here is the place to come to for a great pot of tea and a wonderful selection of home made cakes. On our most recent visit I had a splendid Blackcurrant Cheesecake. On a fine day you can sit outside which is useful if you have a dog. Cheerful service and a great selection of secondhand books and paintings to delight the eyes and empty your purse. We have visited here on a number of occasions and have always been very pleased with our visit. Here's to the next time!

Popped in as we were looking around the area and needed a drink. Toilets very basic, extremely old fashioned & needs a lot of updating. Decided to stay and have a drink, were served with a pot of tea and coffee that was again ok but in old fashioned Cups and just the basic type tea. Had a look around the shop more like a charity shop really with antique shop prices. Nothing took our fancy and we won't be stopping again.Sorry but it's just not up to a very good standard.

Popped in when cycling. It is a treasure trove of a shop and also has a great cafe. The prices are reasonable and the choice and portion size of the homemade cakes is amazing. We were offered coffee refills and everything was brilliantly prepared. We had their pasties. Flapjacks and cakes. What more can a bunch of calorie hunting cyclists want. If you go by car there is a huge car park. If you are shopping the place is a treasure trove of books, pictures, clothing - you name it. We are definitely going to come back here.

Popped in for tea and cake and a browse through the antique bric a brac and books. The three of us had chocolate fudge cake, ginger cake and chocolate cake washed down with cups of hot tea. Asked for tea for two and got tea for about six cups. Asked for chocolate fudge cake and got a huge piece of cake and whipped cream. All for just over £10 bargain! This is a family concern with friendly staff always happy to share time to chat or talk about the many paintings on display. I've sampled the Norfolk (cant say Cornish anymore) Pasties before and they are well filled with chutney and side salad. Do I recommend yes and will I return yes again, even in the darkest depths of winter when its like an oasis on a windswept coast.

Scrumptious cakes combined with collectables and old books. It all makes for a positive experience. I took mother for afternoon tea and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of parking as well.

Another visit to this delightful, quirky little eatery on the North Norfolk coast road. Sit among the antiques to eat the simple fare, which is well prepared and very tasty. Excellent, friendly service. Good value for money - can't recommend it too highly.

I've been coming here for well over 10 years! We had a post Xmas break & enjoyed a lovely walk from here, towards Weyourne and came back along the beach. On returning we enjoyed a fab lunch, followed by the most reasonable ,delicious cream tea ever!As usual this did not disappoint! The place is full if curios, a but if dust here and there but, it's all part if the charm- this place is unique for many reasons, we love it and can't get enough, keep doing what your doing!

We have been coming here a couple of times a year since we discovered it by accident a good few years ago.Inside is a secondhand bookshop / antique shop which is slowly being taken over by the tea room. The tables have crept from the original tea room into the second room which is testament to its popularity.I always have the vegetable soup. This is accompanied by a basket of bread chunks and pats of butter. It is very cozy and very popular so don't be disappointed if you have to wait for a table. This just gives you time to browse the shop and pick one of the homemade cakes for dessert.

We have eaten at the reading rooms many times over the last 15 or so years, either out walking or passing by on the motorbike. The food is not fancy, just home cooked and tasty. A huge selection of cakes ! Daily soups with a mountain of chunky bread or simple sandwiches or pasties. Reliable, tasty food with a warm welcome, super friendly service. Simple, relaxed and just the ticket for a refreshing brew or quick snack. Our most recent visit this week where we just had tea, other times this year we have had, Treacle tart, Pasties, sausage rolls or Sandwiches oh and the odd cake or three ! so this review covers our last half dozen visits :-) There is a reasonably large car park to the rear of the Reading Rooms which is handy if you get tempted to buy some paintings or Antiques !

Having been lavished in Holt and other local places with 'posh' tea rooms, it is a bit of a different experience here at the reading room. Just a stones throw away from our cottage we had hoped to turn this into a lazy lunch place, but we found the food wasn't different enough from what you could knock up yourself out of the fridge to warrant it becoming a regular. There is nothing wrong with the reading room - just nothing to pull me back. The soup was hearty, but my mums tuna sand was basic with a few crisps on the side. Drink choice is best, with lots of juices, coffee, tea and nice hot chocolate - so great for walkers and twitchers after simple refreshments.Staff are friendly and without doubt the setting is unique. Great bric a brac to rummage through - though the art work prices are a bit eye watering! If you are in the area and fancy a cuppa, don't pass it by, but likewise it's not worth a special effort either

Found this open on the last day of our short break and left wishing it had been open earlier in the week. The best vibes and coffee in Holt by a long mile.

Holt is a bimbling town and ably served by cafes, each with their own identity. The Wandering Whelk is nicely tucked away by a car park. We opted for coffee and toasted tea cakes but the menu was full of breakfast/ brunch treats. There were cakes too. It was very clean, relaxing and speedy service. It is an ideal place to linger over coffee and "a little something" as Winnie the Pooh might say

Best iced coffee ever! A regular here, staff always helpful and polite. Place is always clean and tidy. Food is always freshly cooked. Dogs always welcomed with a bowl of fresh water and a butcher's sausage. Today after a stressful morning I needed a nice friendly place to go. No brainer! Megs and an iced coffee, all is right again with the world. Thanks Thomaz

Called in Today for a quick snack & drink as we have been here several times in the past. Unfortunately it was not quite the same as it was a couple of years ago. One member of staff was not as customer friendly as she could have been. Food was less than average. Sorry but we won't be returning

A lovely spontaneous night away in a truly peaceful, dog friendly village pub. We are always on the lookout for the perfect north Norfolk dog friendly hotel and this was a top contender! Lovely room with a ginormous bath and bathroom, with its own entrance, which is great for our noise sensitive labrador (any excuse to woof!). We ate dinner in the tranquil beer garden (have a pie-they’re immense!!), which was perfect for a warm summer’s evening (yes we do sometimes get them In the UK it seems). The chips were proper chips and the pie wasn’t just a lid! I’m vegetarian and there were several choices for me including two different pie options. Breakfast inside the pub was equally good-a fairly traditional menu, but that suited us fine…we both had full English (one veggie) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would we come back? 100%. We preferred this to Brancaster White Horse.
