We were the only people staying in the Kearton, and we were renting the 2 bed apartment. The owners could not have been anymore helpful. Didnt sample any food, but have visited many times and have always found it lovely

Coffee was very good and the fruit cake with Wensleydale cheese was delicious. Wish I had the recipe for the cake - so moist and packed with fruit. Friendly service and good value.

Stopped off here for a bite to eat on my way home. Great food at a very reasonable price and kind friendly staff. If it is nice weather, do as I did and eat out in the garden. Magnificent scenery.

Stopped by for a late breakfast prior to a walk on a really hot day. The sausage bap was truly awful - extruded plastic sausage in a very strange yellow brioche? it is so easy to get good sausage these days, even from a supermarket! My takeaway lemon scone was a huge disappointment on my walk as it had no butter on and merely a slight dab of lemon curd - I wasn't asked how I would like it, it was too dry to eat consequently. I would have spoken to staff if she had appeared interested, but had already seen her being quite unhelpful toan old couple. Such a lovely setting and should be so friendly being in Yorkshire!

We are on holiday as I speak right opposite kearton tea rooms.and yesterday after a long walk I decided to pop in for some cake whilst my husband went back to the cottage.i was served by a male who in my opinion was very rude! Didn’t say hello can I help you! I asked if they had coffee cake his reply was just a finger pointing to the board! He then turned his back put items through till.and took my card from me for contactless payment not giving me an option if I wanted to use my pin.and no thankyou.absolutley disgusting.i have worked in retail customer service for 20 years.and would never treat people like that even if they were rude to me.we are here until Saturday but I will be very reluctant to go in again but if I do and am served by the same person and treated this way again I will not be keeping quiet next time.mrs crane from the midlands.

This place lacks warmth and is grubbily clinical place. We walked in and was served by a lady wasn't the most talkative person, with answers as Yes , No And maybe. Well we had our coffee and walked on. I just seen they only publish 1/3 of the reviews. ( check out thier own review page on there website) I can only imagine they thought the same as us. It's a glorified OAP holiday camp. With all due respect we would like it if we had no where else to go as it has fantastic countryside around it. But has no atmosphere at all unless your the walking dead.

We were staying in Thwaite, and decided to celebrate my daughter's birthday at the Kearton - a wise choice! Such a warm welcome - including log fires - good food served by attentive friendly staff, excellent wines, and all such good value for money. We enjoyed our visit so much, we booked again for 2 days later, which turned out even better than our first visit. We had afternoon cream tea as well - definitely a "gem" in quite delightful surroundings - well worth a visit.

We were in the area and looked up best restaurants and choose the Kearton Country Arms. It was late for lunch so not many people in but service was really slow waiting for the food. When it arrived it was disappointing compared to other pubs we had visited and although it was OK it do it feel it justified the number of excellents. The chips in particular tasted of fat and I had to have a mint to take the taste away.

Our. Group of friends stopped here for coffee and something to eat before a day's walking in Swaledale. The hotel opened earlier than normal in order to accommodate our times, and then served a very delicious breakfast, coffee and cake, etc. All to be recommended and really set us up for the day. The staff were especially friendly, helpful and courteous. Many thanks!

Visited here on Thursday 27th on my walk of the Pennine Way. Having just descended Great Shunner Fell into Thwaite I thought that I would grab some quick food before continuing. I have to say that the soup of bacon and lentil was really nice at just under £4 and I would easily have it again. The thing that put me off though was the really poor service. The waiter at the bar was indecipherable and it took a number of attempts before I understood that he wanted me to put blue bags on my feet. I could understand why he wanted me to do this, but all of the bags were ripped apart and so it was a pointless exercise. When paying for the bill the waitress was on the phone and did not leave the call to deal with me. I was just a poor person getting in the way of her call. There was no asking how my meal was. She simply took my money and that was it. Extremely poor service throughout.........

This place has a certain olde world atmosphere but in a good way. Smart casual is the dress code but some ladies really dressed up for dinner. The food is well presented and very good. The service is friendly and attentive. Most of the diners were guests but it is always possible to eat here as long as you book in advance and be there for 6.30 to dine at 7. There is only the one 'sitting' each evening. If you are staying in the dales give this place a try and you will not regret it.

We have driven past this hotel in Swaledale many times but visited the coffee shop for the first time only recently, after a 10 mile walk from Hawes over Great Shunner Fell. The cafe looks tiny from the outside but very spacious inside. Friendly efficient service. Delicious toasted sandwiches with very good chips and nicely dressed salad. Excellent fruit cake afterwards - felt we needed a few more calories to get over Kisdon Hill! We will definitely be back - the hotel menu looks good too, so maybe we will stay as well.

Only had coffee here but it was a great experience. Wonderful coffee, exactly as we had asked for, in a relaxing and friendly environment. Some restaurants give you a factory made biscuit, individually wrapped. Not at Kearton's. They serve you coffee with a large, home made ginger biscuit. That biscuit is already worth a visit. The owner took time to have a chat. Good that places like Kearton still exist.

We popped in to the tea shop in the middle of a long walk. We were just going to have tea but I couldn't resist a scone and have to say this was one of the best I've eaten. Real, home made quality. A good and well thought out selection of dishes for all tastes, well presented but not pretentious! The service was thorough and quick without being rushed, and a decent amount of time was left between courses so the meal progressed at a civilised rate. One of the best places I've eaten from that point of fact.

On second visit my wife also had this but was clearly microwaved and much closer to wallpaper paste. Both times we struggled to get the wine on table, during meal had keep reminding staff, when did arrive not opened but hey ho this is not a top class hotel.Visited on the hottest day of the year ALL THE WINDOWS CLOSED asked the girl who was worried about birds flying in, this is the Yorkshire Dales there are birds !Definitely off the "to visit " list but on a positive note had the best Yorkshire parkin ever there.

Went for lunch as it's was mum and dad's wedding anniversary. They had been before but knew the place had been up for sale, so we were unsure of what to expect. The menu wasn't extensive, but enough for our needs, and very reasonably priced. The service was a little slow mainly for the drinks, but the food served was definitely fresh and tasty. When we came to pay we found it was a new owner, so the place should see stability.I would definitely go back and recommend it.

Had a lovely lunch, steak tender and cooked as I ordered. Chips homemade, lovely. Onion rings good. Served with pot of peas, a peppercorn sauce and a very small salad. Would have liked some mushrooms. Also not offered any condiments, or mustard, or asked if we would have liked a second drink. No one asked if the meal was ok. The meal was good, the hap hazard service let it down slightly.

For some years we have been visiting the Kearton Country Hotel whilst out for the day on the motorbike. We have always been received warmly and without fuss. The food is always of a high standard and of exceptional value for your money. Recently the Hotel has changed hands and there is always the worry that things will change for the worse. A day out alone on the motorbike gave me the opportunity to visit it today......there have been a few changes to the atmosphere of the place and it feels slightly different, but overall it still offers exceptional value and excellent food. It will just take a few more visits to get acustomed to the new owners.

The Kearton is a combined tea/coffee shop, hotel with bar and restaurant.Attractive enough form the outside but nothing to indicate the quality of the food served inside. We first called in one cold March afternoon after a cycle ride and had a hot chocolate which was quite special and decided to have dinner there the following evening. It was sublime from beginning to end and very reasonably priced for such high quality. Both starters (warm black pudding and apple salad and an outstanding Caprese of mozzarella, tomato, rocket and toasted nuts), both mains (chicken stuffed with Wensleydale and wrapped in dry cured bacon and herb crusted roast cod with chilli) and both deserts (home made Yorkshire curd with rum cream and ice cream and rich lemon cheesecake) were all faultless and delicious.Service was excellent and the setting very good in a traditional sort of way.
