Lunch. We ordered Neychoru, chicken nadan curry, beef varattiyath, konju curry, porotta, appam and drinks. Neychoru was normal rice and garnished with fried onion and nuts🤔Quantity (see in pic) was less compared to average portion in other restaurants. Quality of food was below average except konju curry (better one among ordered curries). Not satisfied 😞

The food was okay neither good nor bad, but they mixed up my order — I had ordered vegetarian, but they served me non-vegetarian. Very disappointing. However, the coffee and soup were good.

We visited an Indian restaurant in town and had an extremely disappointing experience. Not only did they make a serious error by serving non-vegetarian food instead of vegetarian, but the quality of the food was also subpar and not worth a second visit. The chilli paneer tasted like it was made with tomato ketchup, and the thali was bland and completely tasteless. The only things we remotely liked were the coffee and the soup. Overall, it was a careless and unimpressive experience.

Had a meat thali and starters. Loved the taste. Definitely recommend for the ones who want to have the South Indian Cuisine

We came for our 6th wedding anniversary meal and had been meaning to come for a while. The food was superb, our server, Devika, was a huge help offering advice as we chose from the menu. We had the seafood and vegetarian thali feasts. The seafood was a single course but the veggie was a 3 course meal with a lovely soup starter and all the amazing dishes. Devika took the time to tell us exactly what each one was. When the dessert, Semiya Payasam, was served she brought us one each as a present for our anniversary, how lovely was that. I highly recommend this restaurant and consider it to be the best in Nottingham. I have been to others that consider themselves to be "posh" but Kayal beats them for the quality of food and friendliness of the staff. Thanks Kayal.

Had a blast evening in Kayal with family. A lovely food will be going back soon. We had uzhunu vada and Chilli Paneer as starter and pork peralan and ammichi pidi and kozhi kurumulaku and paratha as mains. Much recommended.

The service was impeccable; Specially Mr Basil was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making thoughtful recommendations. He recommended Pala Beef Chops and Chicken Biriyani . It was simply Awesome. Prices were reasonable for the quality, making it a wonderful value. Highly recommend for a memorable meal!!!!

I have been to Kayal many times, the food always used to be authentic and reminded me of home. Don't know what happened but the food this is absolutely awful!! I mean basic thing like lemon rice, was just yellow rice, no flavour, dal is terrible, and the chicken dish I was so looking forward to was inedible.

Had Kayal's 'Business Lunch', which is a thali with several curries and sauces served with a dosa and rice. At £6.95, it must be one of the best lunchtime options in Notts city centre. It was delicious. Waiters were friendly. I will certainly be returning.

First came to Kayal for a work lunch and the ‘business lunch’ was unbelievably good. Since then I always suggest it to friends in Nottingham. The food is amazing (would absolutely recommend the Dosas) and the service has always been really great. The staff are great to recommend dishes if you’re unsure of what you to go for. Amazing!

Their dishes mainly focus on local people, so all the dishes are mild but taste good. They have a good seating area, and the service is also good.

The best Indian in Nottingham so far.

Good food but a bit pricey I'd say. That's the only reason I deducted one star. I had the chicken Biryani and it was really good. It took me back home. I am a malayali and it is so hard to find good Kerala food in the UK. Most of the Indian restaurants in the UK focus only on North Indian food. People haven't even experienced the beauty and variety of South Indian food. So it's really good to see south Indian restaurants in general and if it's a Kerala restaurant I just hit jackpot. Like I said the food is expensive but so worth it. Must try the masala dosa which they serve with sambar. This was one of the best sambars I have tried in the UK. U will definitely feel bad that u will run out of it because it's just a side. They also do amazing chilli prawns with lots of caramelized onions. What could possibly go wrong. I would not recommend the baked goods like puff pastries as they are not worth the price at all. For a comparison you can buy that for 15p in Kerala 🙃. You can also try the uthappam which is not exactly a traditional Kerala dish but still rocks. And finally my last recommendation is a must try which is Kerala porotta. Which is definitely different from north Indian paratha. Porotta is more flaky and soft and fun fact the staple food of Kerala. So hope you all have a wonderful visit .

Lovely food as always and great service from Basil. We both ordered the Thali and I’m taking home lunch for tomorrow, so can’t knock the portion sizes at all. I always forget how much I love this place and it’s nice to be pleasantly surprised

I recently visited Kayal Restaurant in Nottingham and had an amazing meal. I tried the tapioca served with fish gravy and the fish tawa fry, and both dishes were incredible. The tapioca had a unique, chewy texture that paired perfectly with the rich, spicy fish gravy, which was full of flavor and had a lovely tanginess. The fish tawa fry was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated in a delicious, aromatic masala. The combination of these dishes felt like authentic Kerala home cooking. The restaurant had a warm, welcoming vibe, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Kayal for anyone looking to try authentic South Indian cuisine!

Excellent evening meal here. Really interesting and different choice of Indian food. Had great fried pineapple for starters followed by a wonderful crab curry. Staff were great and efficient and friendly.

I can't believe I haven't been here before in all the time I have lived in Nottingham. Kayal cook genuine Keralan cuisine full of flavour and not just heat. Having worked in India, I know there is a difference between Anglo-Indian food that caters for our tastes and the real thing. The dosa on their own had flavour (not just bland pancakes), and the seafood biriani was sublime. Basil was the consummate host and made us feel extremely welcome and was attentive to all our needs. The restaurant is warm and inviting and we loved every minute. All in all, this is a place you definitely want to try in Nottingham, and I wish I had done so sooner.

Fantastic food, very friendly - great lunch menu

Basil, our waiter, was super helpful explaining all the dishes. There aren't spicy ratings on the menu so ask if you're unsure. He also recommended what side dishes to order with mains. Try the lentil donuts 🍩 😋. Also if you're lucky Magic Amit might be there entertaining you at your table.

Tonight we had the pleasure of being bamboozled and entertained in equal measure by Magic Amit, a wonderfully engaging table magician. A very unique experience which made our meal tonight feel extra special! Another lovely dining experience at Kayal Nottingham. The lamb dosa was wonderfully tender and flavoursome as always, topped off with a mango lassi. My partner is coeliac and the staff are very attentive with suggestions, and very knowledgeable about the ingredients of every dish on the menu. Consistently one of our favourite restaurants in Nottingham, and has been for many years.

Delicious food and incredible atmosphere. Also an unexpected but amazing surpise was Magic Amit - seriously impressive magic, left me speechless and made it an incredibly memorable evening! Will definitely be returning!

Such amazing food, lovely lovely atmosphere. I brought my student daughter and we were having such a great night & then Magic Amit came and did a magic trick AND BLEW OUR MINDS! Seriously top notch food. I would have given it 10/10 but with Magic Amit it's now 11/10!!!! Highly recommended.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant, particularly as a visitor from Kerala, India. This was our first visit, and we started with the Prawns Mango Curry, which was delicious and accompanied by a small serving of Lemon Rice. As a starter, we ordered the Rabbit Pepper Fry. While it was decent, we appreciated the generous amount of black pepper, a flavor we had missed since arriving in Nottingham. We also tried the Kerala Porotta and King Fish Curry. The Parotta was satisfactory, though not quite perfect, while the King Fish Curry was both generous in portion and flavorful. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and always wore a smile, which added to the overall comfort of our dining experience. The only minor concern was that both the Prawns and Fish curries had similar flavors, being rich, creamy coconut-based dishes. In the future, we hope to explore a more varied selection and look forward to the staff's guidance in choosing different dishes. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of Kerala.

Today, around 3 PM, I visited the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I ordered two masala dosas, one uttapam, and chili paneer. The food was terrible in taste. One of the masala dosas even had a strand of hair in it, which was extremely unhygienic. Additionally, the dosa batter was sour and clearly unfit for making dosas. Serving such food to customers is unacceptable, especially when we are paying for it. As a restaurant, it is your responsibility to provide quality and hygienic food. Customers should not be expected to pay for substandard food. This was a deeply disappointing experience.

This is probably the best fine dining restaurant we’ve been to for Kerala food. The quality of the dishes, the atmosphere and the service was just top notch. The price does reflect this but i felt that is to be expected considering what you get for it. Having said that, portion sizes are very generous so you could easily share between 2. The quality of service has to be called out as this was brilliant. We had Maheshwari look after us that day and not only was she great with the adults but she was so good with the kids. Also, we were a party of 8 adults and 3 kids - Maheshwari memorised our (very complicated) order so easily without a notepad and got it correct! That alone was impressive. If you want authentic Kerala food and service, I would highly recommend this place. Being Keralians ourselves, we certainly give it the stamp of approval.

The restaurant serves the best food and their service is good. The restaurant has best ambiance with a cozy vibe. From pre meal snacks to the mains the food is well presented. The chicken biryani and seafood biryani is perfectly seasoned. The prices and quality of the food spot on and very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Food was amazing, as was the service. I went for a mushroom dish and the chapati which I'd highly recommend. The only dampener for me was the atmosphere, where it was difficult to hold a conversation due to the loud music. That said, I'd absolutely go again on a quieter night

Visited the place with my friends this afternoon. We all unanimously rated the food and ambience to be awesome. The preparations had great portions. The recommendations by the support staff was on point and we enjoyed delicious dishes ranging from vada in the starters to polichattu in the main course. Thumbs up to the chef and the entire team.

Great atmosphere and service. The food was a solid 9 out of 10. This is probably due to my own taste. The spicing was not how I normally enjoy Indian food. I highly recommend the restaurant but be warned, it's pricy to eat here. I will definitely return.

Been here a few times and the food is always good. My wife and daughter both had the Kayal Special Sadya which they thoroughly enjoved. I chose the Cheera Erachi Curry, which is one of the best lamb curries I've ever had .... had it last time I visited and the time I visited Kayal Leicester, so it's become a bit of a go to choice! Although I went for a predominantly meat based curry, I've been impressed with their selection of fish and vegetarian options. My wife / daughter sometimes go in at lunchtime and have a 'business' lunch which is a Thali and they rave about that. During this visit our waitress was Mahi, who delivered 1st class service and attended to all our needs. Thank you Mahi.

This is the third time we are going to Kayal, and we absolutely love the food, service, and atmosphere. It is the first and only kerala restaurant we have been to in the UK, and they prepare authentic and amazing food. This time, we came all the way from Burton on Trent, just for this experience and got to see the chef Mahi, her food was awesome, but mostly the service she provided we will always remember. Devika, who served us, was very welcoming.

Very nice place in the center of Nottingham. Good Indian cuisine. It's the second time I've gone and I really liked it both times. The service is tremendously friendly but I didn't like that when paying by card, they put the POS in front of me with the options for different tips, with the waitress standing there in front and looking to see what I put. His displeasure was noticeable when I said “no tip.” I didn't like the way they did it. Furthermore, I think that a minimum tip of 10% is extremely exaggerated.
