Tamatanga in Nottingham

Me and my friends went to tamatanga last night and the staff were so friendly offering amazing service especially when it came to those 2-4-1 cocktails! These were not just aesthetically pleasing to my eye and camera! But tasted amazing especially there newest hair of the dog which is one I recommend to anyone visiting soon!

went to tamatanga for a birthday, had an amazing time. we were greeted by Izzy and Rhona was such a nice server, both very accommodating and friendly. food was lovely, 2 for 1 cocktails were very pretty and delicious. 10/10 would recommend.

Don’t come here if it’s your birthday. I came here for my birthday meal with my partner, who earlier rang up to request a birthday cake surprise at the end of the meal (of course paid for). It got to the end of the meal and nothing came, my partner had to tell me the surprise and said I don’t think its coming. We then flagged a member of staff down for the bill and my partner asked about it. The woman said she wasn’t made aware as she started at 3pm, and gave us a very unconvincing sorry. Then, didn’t even ask if we still wanted the cake or offer anything complimentary, which of course we didn’t expect but you would think since it was clearly there own mistake you would have thought they would have. Anyway we got the bill and the woman ran off again, which was just all a very long process which really didn’t need to be. Upon leaving my partner asked at the reception desk to check if the note was under our booking of the request he made, and it was on there and no one had read or even acknowledged this request…. What if it was an allergy concern or disability requirements, very unprofessional. But yet again we just got a very unconvincing sorry from the lady at the front. Clearly no care for there job or the business. The woman that took our order too didn’t even write it down or look at all interested in her job at all. Too add to all of this the place was completely empty, we would understand if they were rushed off their feet but I personally don’t think there was any excuse here. I’ve been too tamatanga a few times and I’ve always love it, however after this time I will not be returning again, service was awful.

This was my first visit to Tamatanga whilst looking for an Indian restaurant. In fact, it was lovely to find a restaurant open at 3.30. Generally, I enjoy visiting restaurants as a single female. First impressions were positive. …..discreet, jungly decor, balanced by inviting seating. I was greeted immediately and put at ease. The separate cutlery in individual envelopes was a nice/ reassuring touch:) The service was friendly, persuasive and most importantly non-invasive. I selected the Delhi lamb curry, riata and mango lassi. Lamb was beautifully tender and flavoursome. Tiara had a thick smooth texture with plenty of cucumber. I would definitely recommend to any visitor to the city centre.

Haven't been in a while. Was always a good spot for Indian food. Seems to have even improved since I was there last.

Superb food and drinks menu. The curries are superb and the cocktails are some of the best in the city. Well worth a visit. The Leeds restaurant is also just as good.

Never heard of the place. Visiting Nottingham for work, having a wander around for something to eat. Followed my nose and am I glad I did! Not only were the staff very friendly, but the food and drinks were amazing. Thanks so much for the great experience!

Siempre gran sabor, relación calidad-precio, comida rápida. Pasamos antes de ir a ver a Gabrielle en el Royal Concert Hall y lo elegimos porque la comida es consistentemente confiable, sabrosa, perfectamente tamaño de porción y de buena calidad. Probé el naco de cordero de plato pequeño (taco de pan nan frito, con un relleno picante de cordero) por primera vez, que estaba realmente delicioso. También añadí Papdi Chat, que me encanta. Mi marido fue por su viejo favorito, el Cordero Ferroviario Curry. Excelente comida, encantador, atento, personal amable y buena relación calidad-precio. Estaba muy ocupado un lunes por la noche, lo que te dice todo realmente.

Fuimos como se recomienda y fue absolutamente lugar en , desde el minuto en que caminamos en el personal fueron fabulosos, amables, amables Les dijimos que estábamos comiendo, pero más tarde y esto estaba bien de cualquier manera, sin presión en absoluto. Los cócteles eran deliciosos y la comida era increíble, Sin duda recomiendo y sin duda volver el próximo mes! Desearía que más lugares fueran tan amigables como este, ¡sigue con el buen trabajo!

Love the food and the cocktails, and the decor and colourful vibe. Can get a bit noisy though at busy times.

Manon was really nice and friendly. The manager was also really nice and persuaded us to come in as we were unsure where to eat and recommended us the chilli cheese poppers :)

Excellent food, very busy/noisy (a testament to its popularity, but it can be difficult to attract waiter's attention for things like top-ups, or the bill), and staff are very friendly. I would recommend booking, as it's somewhere that's nearly always full, especially at weekends.

Had a late meal Saturday night without a book. There was a short wait of 2-3 minutes and made very welcome.

Tamatanga is, hands down, my absolute favorite Indian restaurant. I'm not exaggerating when I say I try to go as often as I can! The food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. My go-to order, without fail, is the korma with a side of cheese naan and a refreshing shandy – the combination is just perfect. The shandy complements the richness of the korma beautifully, and the cheese naan is simply divine. If you're looking for an authentic and flavorful Indian meal, Tamatanga is the place to be. Highly recommended!

Absolutely incredible! This is hands down the best Indian takeaway I’ve ever had. The deep red lamb curry was rich, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection, while my partner’s chicken korma was out of this world—creamy, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. The cheese naan was fresh, warm, and had the most satisfying cheese pull. Every bite was a delight! Exceptional food and top-quality ingredients. We’ll definitely be ordering again. Highly recommend!

Nice spot for a meal out with your friends or family. The menus easy to read and the food is tasty and can appeal to a wider audience. The service was standard and the atmosphere is lovely!

Unfortunately the lack of communication for a large group of us 38 was very stressful getting told different information. This was for a special occasion half of the decorations didn’t get put up there was only 1 waiter for the whole group food was nice but some came out cold definitely wouldn’t recommend for large groups seems to be too much for them.

I made a birthday booking mistake on a Saturday night! 🫣 The manager was fantactic and managed to get us a table for 8 people, she could have easily said no. Very personalable and understanding, every time we have visited we receive the same consistent level of customer service, a job well done.

Sorry to have to update this, the food is brilliant as ever and the drinks good although most of them are too sweet. The business model is progressing too obviously towards get people in and out quickly and make as much money from them in as short a time as possible. I asked to have a side plate with our poppadoms while we took a couple extra minutes to decide on our mains and the staff refused to put it through until we decided on our mains and said "we don't do starters." Excuse me? I just wanted to eat it along with the poppadoms, which they're always happy to let you munch on for a bit first before bringing any other food over, so I didn't have to rush before my curry got cold if it all came together. Not wait 20 minutes between like a usual starter situation. This has been done on prior visits without issue. You're telling me how I can order and eat my food as a full paying customer, and you also expect a 10% service charge for throwing food at me, expecting me to scoff it down as quickly as possible and be in and out in under 40 minutes? This would put me off coming back. The price of the food and the service charge reflects a standard restaurant but the actual model is fast food, the first thing isn't a problem if you're actually getting a proper restaurant experience which isn't on offer here. I have noticed the service has gotten worse since the service charge was added, probably less incentive to try if you're counting on people being too shy to remove it. To be fair I did ask for it to be removed as the service we received was poor. I also was served a lassi that was fizzy and tasted fermented. Not great.

Made to feel unwelcome by the door man. I was unable to give a review of the food or the restaurant due to the poor performance from the doorman. Sad tho, as I had previously enjoyed the concept and the food. Tamatamga please review the frontdoor staff. I was there on Friday evening. Because of his behaviour I just went to another restaurant, and lost a customer.

Alex looked after myself and my finance when we dined here. Very attentive individual and made our experience here enjoyable. We will be returning when we’re back in Nottingham again.

We had an amazing experience which was mainly due to our server Courtney C, who was kind, patient and friendly! She took the time to help us and held the right amount of conversation. Food was delicious, different to your regular Indian Restaurant. Would highly recommend 👍

Went to Tamatanga for New Year's 2025! Tanya was such a sweetheart, and her recommendations were delicious! You HAVE to try the Tamatanga thali! The mocktails, especially the butterfly spritz, were so refreshing. It was such a great time!

We as a family decided to visit the Nottingham Restaurant this evening following a visit to the Christmas Market. We also regularly visit Tamatanga’s other locations too. Upon arrival we were greeted by whom I assume was a member of management. We asked for a specific seat set up in which to assist us with our child’s seating requirements, to which we were shown to a table that was suitable. We entered with an XL Mobility Pushchair so it was a good give away that our young child has SEN’s. However whilst we were settling at our table, removing coats etc….our child was kneeling on the couch seat not making a fuss, which we were already in the process of trying to ask him to sit down properly and explain why too. The member of staff that had earlier showed us to our table, strolled past and asked if my child could sit on his seat properly and walked off……. The manner in which we were spoken too was really condescending and in front of other customers and staff too. However once we’d all sat down, we felt so uncomfortable that we decided to leave due to the either lack of understanding or just plain rudeness expressed in their request. Whilst we were in the process of putting our Coats back on, having not even taken a look at the menu. A member of staff observed what had happened and asked what had been asked of us. I explained our child wouldn’t have understood what the (member of management) had barked at him, and us. The empathetic member of staff asked us to “please stay” but we thought it better we leave as it wouldn’t have been a nice dining experience from then on. They understood and actually apologised for the way in which we’d been treated. They could see exactly how we’d been made to feel this way. I’m not super sensitive by any stretch regarding SEND matters but the lack of Interest and customer service coming from this member of management has angered me to the point where I’ve spent time leaving this less than complimentary review. As we passed two members of management standing by the door as we left neither asked why we weren’t staying? They can’t need the custom that much, I guess? It’s a shame as the food is very good.

My family and I have loved Tamatanga for a long time, and today did not disappoint. 2 for 1 cocktails were refreshing - two of the same, but my Mum and I did a swapsie. Both were lovely. We had the Amaretto Colada and Too Cool for School. Lots of options, including biryanis, curries and wraps. Opted to try the wrap and it was really hot, crispy, and packed with lots of paneer. My Mum and brother said their biryanis were tasty and had good, big chunks of meat in it. The tama chips are to die for, and are really spicy, but they're so tasty. Clean resturant thats well lit and decorated beautifully, as well as clean, well-stocked bathrooms. Staff were friendly and polite. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to the staff at Tamatanga. Thank you for a nice meal.

Lovely food and atmosphere, a bit pricey in our opinion.

Visitó con colegas de trabajo para una comida de Navidad. No se dejó llevar por la comida por lo que estaban cobrando. El curry se parecía a la sopa de rabo de buey con 4 trozos cuadrados de cordero con arroz o pan naan, no ambos a menos que pagara además de las £ 18 que cobraban. No estoy seguro de qué lado estaba en el lugar, pero medio tomate cherry con unos trozos de col no valió la pena el esfuerzo. No volveré pronto.

Luego hacer sugerencias sin ser demasiado exigente y difícil de vender como algunos pueden ser. Ella revisó a través de nuestro pedido y nos aconsejó de los diversos platos que habíamos pedido para asegurarnos de que teníamos un buen equilibrio de expectativas. Ella revisaba con frecuencia durante nuestra comida para asegurarse de que estábamos satisfechos y si necesitábamos más artículos, incluyendo bebidas, de nuevo no de una manera intrusiva, sino solo una charla amistosa para asegurarse de que teníamos todo. La comida como siempre fue genial y una muy buena elección te permite experimentar sin romper el banco.

Great restaurant clean and great service the thali is amazing

Came for bottomless brunch on Saturday as a group of 4. The service was excellent (thanks especially to Robert!), and the food was really tasty. I'd recommend it as a great value place for a small gathering - we've been before as a bigger group and it wasn't as well-organised, but my latest visit has certainly made up for it. The only criticism I can really make is that the booths aren't especially comfortable - I couldn't work out if the table was a bit too high, or it was just a little too close - but other than that, perfect.

On Saturday me and my friends attended this location and the food was delicious. And the service was spectacular, we wanted to comment about our spectacular server darya. She made our night exceptionally good by her warm hospitality and making sure all our needs were fulfilled. As we was a large group she made sure we was all laughing and having a great time. We will definitely be returning soon

The place is nice, when we arrived (Sunday around 1 pm) it was nearly empty (it was much fuller when we were leaving); We’ve been served promptly, food arrived as it was ready (so not all plates together) - they do have this information on the cutlery set. Food was nice; service very courteous. Bathroom (ladies) was clean and very nicely decorated. Except that my drink was taken away before I had a chance to finish it, everything was all right. We had 4 main meals, 2 lasis, 1 juice and 1 coke and we paid £92. We would return if we are in the area again.

I recently had the fantastic opportunity to explore Nottingham City, and one of the highlights was dining at Tamatanga! It was an unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better order taker than Daria. She was incredibly polite and exuded professionalism that made the whole meal feel like a special occasion. 😊

We had a great time for our bottomless. Rob was a fab waiter, very attentive! We will be back!

Good place, nice food, gentle staff and lively environment. That's what this place is. Their paneer wrap is so good. Avocado salad is great too.

Super busy on a Saturday night had to wait 35 mins for a table. Not been in ages but the good was as good as I remembered it.

Unfortunately the service here has gone downhill! It used to be one of my favourite spots in Nottingham but half the staff look like they cant be bothered to work even though the restaurant was nt busy when I visited it. I was overcharged and when I told the first waitress she just dismissed it and walked back to her colleague for a chat… And when I realised she was not coming back - I had to raise it with another waitress who seemed annoyed to have to refund me as if it was my fault! Unfortunately is not as welcoming as it used to be! And on top of that they automatically add a 10 percent service charge on £15 mon-thurs daytime menu.. whilst offering poor service!

I recently visited Tamatanga in Nottingham, and I have to say, it was an incredible experience! The food was absolutely amazing authentic Indian flavors that completely hit the spot. My friends and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with naan, Palak Paneer, and Chaat Bombs, and every dish was a treat for the taste buds. A special shoutout to Robert, who took the time to patiently explain the menu and recommend the best dishes for us. His suggestions were spot on! Another big thanks to Monica, who went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and satisfied. Her attentiveness and warm service made the experience even better. The food, the ambiance, and the service were all top-notch. If you're in Nottingham and craving Indian food, Tamatanga is the place to be! Highly recommended!

Ordered a Punjabi butter chicken and it was absolutely beautiful. Being south Asian myself it had all the authentic flavours and perfect amount of spice. Hats of to the chef!

Great food, though a bit overpriced. 10% 'discretionary' charge was added to the bill which I was not pleased about, it's up to me to reward good service.

Really delicious food and friendly staff. I enjoy coming here a lot. I got the luscious lamb salad bowl which was so filling and delicious. It comes in a ginormous portion and has naan with it. My friend got avocado,chickpea & paneer salad which looked equally as amazing. I’ll have to try that next time! I also got chaat bombs which tasted divine and cold refreshing mocktails which was the Bombay cooler and the butterfly spritz! Amazing!

Well was advised to have sharing platter for two but was told better for one has you don't get a great deal. don't get a great deal the was not enough to feed a mouse, Two small one bite lamb chops a abysmal size heap of Bombay aloo and a couple of skirts of other stuff £33 per go. Service was surly and dismissive food very average what was on the plates.I dont know were these reviews are coming from must be in a different world to me. They even stuck £10 on the bill service charge. Never again you visit at your peril

Being of Indian heritage this was like eating home cooked food. Really enjoyed!

Chaat bombs are very nice. Butter chicken is spicy and tastes nothing like butter chicken usually 🤷🏻 servers are cramming people into the same are of restaurant so we had dinner with other people sitting directly next to us when the other half of the restaurant was echoing from emptiness. Bad experience. Return is not very likely.

I recently dined at Tamatang and I must say, the food was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish burst with authentic flavors and was beautifully presented. The only reason for the one star is because of the shocking level of customer service. Upon arrival, we waited a considerable amount of time before being acknowledged by the staff. Once seated, it took ages for our orders to be taken, majority of the female waters were walking around like headless chickens just running up and down looking busy but not one of them were going up to customers providing any sort of service when you eventually flag them down by raising your hand the frustration on there faces were beyond obvious. Don’t bother asking for any cutlery or plates because they will not bother giving it you need to eat in the big bawls provided. While I would highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine, be prepared for a frustrating dining experience when it comes to service. It’s a shame that such fantastic food is overshadowed by a lack of attentiveness and care from the staff. Also it’s extremely overpriced !

Had the soft flour flatbread, filled with lamb flavours, served with the legendary tama chips and a mint & coriander chutney. With a cucumber cooler drink (Apple, lychee, cucumber and mint). The drink is refreshing and a nice compliment to the spice in the wrap. The food was tasty and very filling so very good value for money.

Daria was such a wonderful support for 2 people who do not know much about the cuisine she demonstrated knowledge and couerteous behaviour!

The short skinny /small build lady with a dark silk hair at reception I assume she was a manager as she wasn’t wearing any uniform just plain clothes I can’t even say she was rude or impolite as she was way more then that discriminating and racist towards certain people not everyone as I sat there and watched for more then 30 min waiting for a table as it was busy. So you can clearly see that she picks and choose who to be nasty towards. Customers from some ethnicities and all the deliveroo drivers mainly the ones they speak very little English she was saying very nasty stuff to them and sometimes even calling them names that she shouldn’t and their only fault is that they were there doing their job, it felt for once like they work for her or she owns them it was absolutely shocking to witness as I never thought this can happen or even exist in uk2024. The rest of her colleagues/managers without uniform two other ladies one with an Eastern European accent and the other one slightly oldish they were quite the same but I wouldn’t say to that extent as she was the worse but they were rude and impolite Waitresses were ok to be fair I can’t fault them as they were hard working young ladies and trying to do their job in a poisonous environment you could clearly see the unhappiness and stress on their faces. Honestly What a place really!! shocked !!

I was a little sceptical about visiting a city centre curry house but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We visited on a Saturday evening but didn't book so there was approximately 15min wait for a table. There's a good selection of drinks and happy hour for cocktails. Good selection of food options as you would expect. Everything was very tasty, and the saag paneer was excellent with a peshwari naan 👌 great combo. Service was friendly and swift. Good job.

Been many times to this restaurant which says it all, food gorgeous, always great atmosphere and service. But totally removing the provision for customers to pay.with cash is a real negative, particularly for the older generation. Surely a preferred method of cashless would be more suitable.

Great tasting food for a great price. I cannot fault anything. The food came out quickly though be aware it comes out 'as and when it's ready' so you may find a party of you all tucking in at different times. We've been a few times now and love it!

I went to tamatangas for my anniversary with my boyfriend and the food was amazing and the service was excellent, thanks to the manager staff and chefs.

Great atmosphere and food was very authentically Indian. Prices are very high for students however; portions of curries could be larger for the price. Waitresses were very friendly. Out with mates and I had punjabi butter chicken. Ended up being sick about 4 hours after it - so I’m assuming it wasn’t cooked properly.

We managed to grab a group table last minute after being let down by another restaurant. They managed to squeeze us in and so glad they did. Food and serve was amazing. Cocktails were on 2F1 which on a Saturday evening was a great offer. All 11 of our party were stunned how amazing the food was so this place is highly recommended.

Had a delivery last night from the Nottingham restaurant. Very disappointing. We use this restaurant on a regular basis, either eating in, takeaway or delivery. We know it's not the cheapest but the food is good and portions are plentiful, until last night. A lamb wrap that would lose a weigh in against a greggs sausage roll. Tama chips that would fit in a maccy d's happy meal fries bag. Keralan lamb curry in a tub so shallow even Hal wouldn't entertain it. Chilli naans were spot on.

Great place with truly delicious food, good service and a nice atmosphere. Generous portions - our group of 4 all had a main course with drink and we were very full. The only negative is that the acoustics were not great, and our table (booth) had difficulty hearing each other over the background conversation. I'd definitely go again but might avoid a Friday night as it was very busy.
