Kathmandu House in Shepway

Upon arrival we were politely greeted and our booking was confirmed. We were then shown to our table. There were all the Covid-19 precautions you would expect, which included socially distanced tables. This made the restaurant feel a bit large and empty but I'm sure that it would feel very different in more normal times.Our drink order was taken promptly and arrived quickly. The menu offered a good variety of Nepalese and Indian Dishes, we both had a starter which was a decent sized portion and we both had the Nepali Tali. I had Lamb and my Wife had the chicken. This gives a whole meal with rice, meat main dish, vegetable side and Dhall. The food was of good quality, well cooked and delicious. The serving staff were cheerful and attentive. I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Not sure the lady in charge is very hospitable. Coffees and food OK. Gin and tonic had strange bits in it.

Went there for a quick drink and got 2 cocktails. Great cocktails and amazing vegetable momos! Would recommend to anyone.

Directly we arrived received a friendly welcome. We had booked in advance and had a seat by the window. Agathe was our waitress and she was excellent. Looked after us so well. The food was lovely and we'll presented. We wil! definitely return.

Friendly service from the moment we stepped in the door. Drinks order taken promptly and delivered, then food ordered. Pompadoms and dips efore our starters arrived which were beautifully presented on black slate, which offset the colourful food, I had the chilli chicken which was sweet with a kick. Starters were cleared and mains were brought, I had the chicken bhuna and shared a chilli naan and pilau rice with a friend. The bhuna was tasty and the naan had a kick to it. The portions were not huge but ample and we left satisfied rather than bloated as can be after some indians. Pleasant eating environment and friendly staff. Thee manager even let me keep my Cobra glass.

Great contemporary interior serving excellent Indian food, could be the best curry I have eaten in a long time!

The staff were nice but got both of our orders wrong and the food was below average. The hollandaise was gross, the eggs were cold and had cold water all over them and the toast was barely warm bread. Neither of us finished our breakfast and felt like a waste of £20

The Indian food aside which I have tried and which is really good, the cafe area seems busy serving coffees and an array of lunch options some of the which, although on the menu, are not available. Tried the ‘chefs special breakfast’ at £7.50 and it’s awful. Luke warm except for the beans (probably microwaved), cheapest 1 tiny sausage, 2 pale over cooked eggs, greasy bacon, rubbery mushrooms, half a tomato, 1 frozen hash brown and 1 piece of toast sliced diagonally in two and no tea! Disgusting food and regret not going elsewhere like the Grand, Bouverie Tap or The Hideaway. Breakfast dishes not their strongest point, the cook can’t cook it properly so avoid.

My family & I enjoyed a lovely meal here. The staff were attentive & polite. The chef produced delicious tasting dishes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others & am looking forward to returning 😊

Went to Kathmandu House for our anniversary and were treated to the most delicious of curries. The tastes were exquisite. Followed by a wonderful chocolate gateaux with strawberry ice cream. The staff made us feel real special. Lovely atmosphere - we recommend this restaurant very highly.

After doing some TripAdvisor research and one of my friend invited me to go and try at this place . So,I went to Kathmandu House mainly because of their interesting (viewed on their website) menu. However the menu I was presented with in the restaurant was completely different. Confused about this, the waiter informed me they were under New Management so they had different(temporary) menu. Anyway, apparently this wasn’t a problem, so I simply ordered from the menu they had. Restaurant decor and layout is great .The staff were very welcoming, knowledgeable, and efficient. Very friendly staff. Easy to park.Back to the food I loved the starters prawn chilli( must try if you love spicyflavours)and for the mains i had the Sekuwa which was superb the smoked flavour was just wow and it went well with the cumin rice which comes with it so great combo , The tandoori roti were not bad, and tasted like mine I make at home Fresh. The quality of the food was excellent and was served quickly and with a smile. Highly recommended! Overall a lovely dining experience with excellent servicei can't wait for my next visit ,Thank you....

Disappointed. Staff was chatting, ignoring customers... Took forever to get the food. Food was ok but nothing wow. For sure, I will not return. Also the place needs a good cleaning and ....some customer service trainings for sure!

I eat all over the UK & Always try to find a decent city house to get a nice spicy meal once a week. Today I tried this place as I’ve never been to Folkestone before. Quite simply superb food! This was our very first visit. We took our best friends for a treat and were not disappointed. Such a delicious meal. Beautifully prepared and presented. Pleasant friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere and music. Attractive and comfortable dining area. Can’t wait to go again! Would highly recommend.

What a lovely place this is, modern design restaurant / bar. Great ideas serving breakfast, lunch and fabulous Nepalese food in the evening. The Nepalese was wonderful, full of flavour, freshly cooked order. Service was top class. A great experience.

Just had an amazing meal in kathmandu. The restaurant is open and relaxing, with lovely big windows. The momos were delicious. The lamb sag was beautiful and tender. Amazing flavours in all dishes, truely the best Nepalese restaurant in folkestone by far. Friendly attentive staff and reasonable prices for food and alcohol.

We dropped into this cafe at lunchtime after a long walk on The Leas and around the harbour arm. The Blueberry and cream cheese cake was very good, accompanied by tea served in glass mugs. After reading other reviews we returned in the evening to sample the Nepalese flavours. We really enjoyed some dishes and flavours we had not previously experienced. The staff, at both visits, were very friendly and engaging. The food was excellent and interesting. The atmosphere and decor was very pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited for the valentines 3 course meal and it was very good quality, good value for money and nice portion sizes, we had no problems whatsoever. It was the tastiest Asian Food we have had in a long time. Our first time visiting and we will be returning. Thanks Kathmandu House.

This establishment does not have either Asian or its Indian menu available on a lunchtime.? I am sure the food is wonderful, but after our visit this Friday lunchtime, they only had " Chicken curry/rice and Gurkha Lamb curry / rice"Apparently , there very extensive menu of Asian \Indian food is only available in the evening. Only issue is this is neither mentioned on the website or on the menue when you enter, Pity, we had a rather aggressive young man, when we requested the food that they advertise , informed us that they could 'sell what they liked', we of course replied and we can eat what and whee we like?.... all rather bizzare, and when i pointed out where did it specify this, he pointed out to the window,....... which did NOT specify this, or is on there website?. All they had to say was we do not serve this food at lunchtime,? We assumed thought, despite having NO menu on our table, that Indian food of some type would be served at lunchtime,or at least a selection which was our preference to eat. Very poor communication, that led to a rather confrontational attitude by staff that seemed to be under pressure? We will not be visiting again as locals?, Surely not much to ask is it, that you make it clear to customers, that at lunchtime your full menu is not available?..... Obviously this individual is of the opinion that I should go to a fish and chip shop next to ask for a bowl of pasta?

Service was very friendly. Food was high quality and delicious. Surroundings are bright and well decorated. This has to be one of the best restaurants around. Had a great night and meal.

3 of us stopped by for dinner, about 7:30 pm on a rainy Wednesday night in Feb. The restaurant is well lit, beautifully decorated, warm and welcoming, with very hospitable Nepalese staff. The food was simply delicious.....I would say their Nepalese cuisine was a flavour mix of the taste/heat of Indian, with the delicate spicing of Thai food...we all loved it, and very reasonably priced.

There are two Kathmandu restaurants within a couple of miles of each other. This is the Folkestone Kathmandu, not the Hythe restaurant of the same name and I haven't been there.The food is excellent. Amazingly tasty. The service is friendly and efficient. Honestly the best curry I have eaten in years.

Great food and service. The food was delicious and the service was brilliant. The waiter who served us (who told us he used to work at grind and bake, sorry we didn't get your name!) was very accommodating and friendly and really chatty, he was really lovely and a great asset to the business. We had a set menu for 2 on Valentines Day and the food was excellent with great service - will definitely return to try normal menu service.

A cold evening outside, very warm welcome, excellent menu, superb tennerfest meal and good wine. Will definitely visit again.

Our first experience of Nepalis food

What a lovely meal, wife and I visited Saturday night and what a treat it was, we tried starters from the Nepal menu and mains from the Indian, all food was delicious and the service was so friendly and helpful, definitely visit again.

Food is great. Bar is well stocked. Staff and friendly and attentive. And they had a drawing table to keep my daughter busy. Very good restaurant

This was my first experience of Nepalese food, and I loved it. I also loved every aspect of this restaurant. Our group were staying the night in Folkestone, and stopped outside to read the menu. One of the staff immediately came out, and after confirming that none of us knew Nepalese food, explained how it differs from Indian cuisine. We also noted some of its customers giving us the thumbs-up, and beckoning us in. How could we refuse? The decor was contemporary, but also included prayer flags and bells, and majestic pictures of Nepalese people and mountains. There was a great selection of beers, wines and cocktails, the ambiance was really good, and the staff were both friendly and turbocharged. And the food? Freshly cooked, beautifully presented, and above all, delicious.

Sunday morning brunch with family. Very welcoming staff, clean tables, excellent food. Very good service. Some of us had the breakfast which was great value and well cooked; others had fish and chips that were tasty and lovely and hot.

To be honest wasn't our first choice for a family New Year Eve meal out, but but but so not disappointed, loved the ambience of the place, very comfortable, made to feel very welcome... and more importantly how good was our food.... Every year we meet up whilst one of my cousins is home from abroad. there were seven of us and we decided this year to go to Kathmandhu. unfortunately not Nepal but the restaurant. we were not disappointed. Good service and most importantly lovely food. Thank you.

Lunchtime visit £6.50 for my Vegetable curry, really tasty, they asked how spicy I wanted it, and got it just right. The lunchtime menu is a real mix, 3 curries, chow mein, baked potatoes and much more. Whole family including elders who don't like any spicy food found something, and every plate was empty at the end. All very happy.

I decided to book this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. There were ten of us in total and nobody was disappointed. There is a great selection of the usual Indian dishes and also some unusual contemporary dishes. Everyone had starters which were all superb. The mains were also of a very high standard. All well presented with very generous portion sizes. The lamb dishes were excellent, lean and very tasty. The service we received with such a large group was also excellent. Will definitely visit again soon.

My son was home on leave and had brought his gf with him so we wanted to treat them to a nice meal. Had been meaning to try Kathmandu House for a while and managed to get a table at short notice. The service was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We ordered 6 different meals with sides and every one of them was delicious! The thali looked great, Im getting that on my next visit! Portions were large, hot and full of flavour. We had a lovely evening, and the staff did well to cope with a 'slightly' inebriated infantryman on leave! Will be back soon for more!

Staying overnight in Folkestone prior to getting the shuttle across to the continent for a few days, husband fancied a curry for tea and we found Kathmandu house on tripadvisor.

In the area for a few days holiday. Excellent service, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Our meals were amazing. We would highly recommend this restaurant. Lovely end to our holiday.

Outstanding lunch: My chicken chow mein was just right with fresh, crisp vegetables, nicely spiced chicken and firm noodles. Friendly, prompt service and clean environment. Recommend!!!

We visited Katmandu as we have previously enjoyed Nepalese food. The waiting staff are friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is relaxed, and food is amazing. I recommend the Nepalese dishes, especially the lamb. Top notch experience, reasonable prices. I will be back.

Came here with family and had a great lunch. The house curry was so good - lovely flavour and portion size. Bread and butter for desert was great also. Quick service and friendly staff (especailly David and Sunita) will definitely be back!

The meals here are wonderful, so full of flavour. The service was excellent and the value was very good. My wife and I shall certainly be returning when next in Folkstone.

Came here mid July for a brief meal on my own. I went for my standard chicken tikka masala, plain naan and rice. The food did not disappoint and the service was very good. I also enjoyed a nice cocktail, pina colada to be specific. The only thing I’d say was the service time was (I.e. the wait for the drink) was not amazing, but the staff did apologise. Overall a good meal and I would go back.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Folkestone! We both had Nepalese slow cooked lamb dishes and they were cooked to perfection with incredible flavour and taste. Excellent table service, kind and attentive with probably the best chef in Folkestone. Very reasonable prices. We cannot recommend it more highly!

Ostensibly Nepalese, the food we had here earlier in the year, courtesy of the South Indian chef was really good fusion food, beautifully prepared. Friendly service from one of the owners. This review was a lunch visit that wasn't quite as excellent (soft papadums served with the curries) but still very good, and the service was still excellent. Very decent lunch prices for what you get. If you have a chance to visit for an evening meal, do try it.

Have been here several times and always enjoyed it. However, on Saturday evening the restaurant area was full, there was an event in the downstairs bar - large trays of food being taken down - and I know they are listed on Just Eat so can imagine they were busy with takeaways as well. Although our food was served within a reasonable time, the tables either side waited a very long time for theirs. They appear to be trying to serve too many markets without enough capacity in the kitchen - it's a real shame because their food is delicious and staff are usually friendly and helpful.

We had friends come to visit us a few weeks back. We booked the table and all excited. We were a group of 12 adult and 1 child. We choose this place because of all the good reviews but it was such a letdown. There was five front of house staff on that day and the restaurant was not even that busy. We waited around an hour and a half for our food to arrive. They didn't even bring the food together. While some of was finally eating a few of my friends were still waiting. We said to the waiter that if the rest of the food is still not done then to leave it as we waited enough and we rather go somewhere. They said it is on its way and took another 20 minutes. When it arrived it was a wrong order. I asked the waiter if it is the right dish and he said yes. I told him to check the menu and he was then sorry because it was a wrong dish. We told him to leave it anyway as we didn't even want to eat anymore. I am really surprised that the manager didn't even bother come talk to us once. One of the waiters said that they never had a large group before and it was a learning curve for them. I can understand but they need to be honest to the customer if it is going to be a long waiting time for a larger group. They have mentioned in their website that they take booking for parties. I don't know how they can cope with that. They did offer us a free bottle of wines and discount. When we paid our bills and just about to leave one of the waiters said at least you got your food there are poor hungry people out there. I seriously don't know if he was trying to joke around but it was just a very bad experience.

A very last minute booking; booked via Tripadvisor... OMG.... this place is sensational & then some..... it was wonderful & unique to meet a chef.... hut for the CHEF of Khatmundu to come out of the kitchen to speak to his diners says a lot... a professional who values & is proud of the dishes he sends out... WOW FACTOR!

I have seen this place many times but never thought to visit and I have no idea why....I chose here for my husbands 50th birthday meal because I was looking for somewhere accessible for my mother in laws wheelchair.... hard to find in Folkestone! However I am certainly glad we went. Not only was it fully wheelchair friendly with a large disabled toilet, but the food was absolutely delicious and the service from the exceptionally friendly and professional staff was second to none. They were so accommodating and kind. When it came the birthday cake all the staff joined in singing happy birthday to my husband and even added a massive sparkler to his cake. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough.... amazing food, awesome staff... we will be returning.

Ordered from here a takeaway, got two curry’s one rice and one naan bread for £28 when we got referred by a friend who got there order the same night and got double the amount of food! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS CURRY HOUSE it will miss lead you and take your lonely and thinks it’s ok to do so.

It’s delicious ! Everything is just right. Unlike some other curry restaurants, it’s food is not greasy and their meat is not over marinated with seasoning.

Good quality food at reasonable prices, a decent selection of wine and very attentive and friendly service. There is an outside area, pavement café style, but we ate indoors as the sun was quite strong.

This restaurant is situated at the bottom of the Lees and very close the town centre shops. Inside the décor is a pleasant mixture of brick and wood it is clean and well maintained, The menu is typical Indian/Nepalese but the food is exceptional. My wife and I had the best tasting Biryani and Buna with various sides that we had eaten in a long time! The flavours were tremendous and the portions generous. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Also the pricing was extremely good value, our bill was only £35 and I had a very large bottle of Gurkha beer. The only negative is parking which is on street and limited,

I really didn’t expect this. Possibly the best Indian restaurant I have been to - certainly beats Chutney Mary where I went a few weeks ago. Just excellently executed dishes.

La gérante nous a fait patienter très gentiment. Ensuite, une fois à table, un serveur très agréable nous a demandé si nous voulions boire un apéritif, il parle quelque mots de français. La nourriture nous a été servie après que nous ayons choisi avec l'aide du serveur. Les assiettes sont copieuses et bien épicés pour certains de nos choix.

We had a delightful experience here. Service and food were excellent. Great menu serving from 17:00 , handy if you are off to Leas Cliff Hall for an evening of entertainment. There is a disabled toilet at the rear of the premises . The staff were very helpful and friendly. The menu indicates how hot dishes will be served for those of a nervous disposition !

This was an anniversay meal while we were visiting the local area. The Chicken Korma was a tad hotter than I am used to, despite being listed as not spicy. The Chicken Rogan was also hotter than my husband expected, but on the whole a very pleasant meal. The Dhingri Mutter (Button mushrooms and Peas) was very nice. This was a Friday night around 7.30 so not busy and we were not rushed in any way. There was 6 other diners and and 50th birthday party arrived as we left. Would we go again, probably if in the area.

Went to Kathmandu House in Folkestone with a group of friends. The staff were so friendly and attentive, making great recommendations for us to choose from. I had the lamb biryani which was so full of flavour and tasted amazing!! And the cocktails were excellent! Brilliant service and the food was all very reasonably priced too; we will definitely go there again!!

My wife and I on our weekly trip out from our own establishment ventured to Folkestone had a few beers etc in the harbour and some lovely seafood. Then went to this venue for a meal.

Me and the wife booked a table after seeing good reviews on Trip Advisor for 7.30pm. We ended up getting our meal around 9pm. The annoying thing was, seeing other tables coming long after we arrived and eating before us, especially when your hungry. One
