Lovely setting, really nice people, delicious breakfast hash! Definitely taste the difference with the premium ingredients! Shall be revisiting soon. Keep up the good work!!

We have come here twice now, and will make it a regular event.. a great place to come for breakfast (with or without a hangover) Staff are really friendly. Food is good quality. It's clean. Light and airy.

Very rarely eat in Portswood but found myself there today and needed a breakfast. After a quick google all the best reviews came for this place. Greeted with a big smile is always a good start, lots of nice things on the menu and decided to go with a full English. It arrived quickly and very fresh. All very good quality and delicious, washed down with a great mug of tea. I will be going back. If you find yourself in Portswood, id highly recommend this place.

A real gem of a cafe serving homemade delicious ethnically sourced food with car and more importantly a smile! We had brunch, coffee and my welder my Mother was relaxed and happy the whole time we were there. She commented on how lovely it all was! Thank you

Honestly could not reccomend Kate's Cafe enough. The best place for breakfast, always spot on everytime. Big fan of the breakfast options and lovely coffee ☕ one of the main reasons I come into Portswood since moving more central :)

Kate's Cafe is such a gem and we have missed it so much during the pandemic. So when it recently reopened we couldn't wait to get back. So what is special about Kate's? Firstly the food is good, well prepared and delivered to the table by the lovely and friendly staff. Also, during these dark times, it is as safe as it can get. Distanced tables, strict on track and trace and the wearing of masks. The welcome is second to none but the only thing that is missing is seeing Kate's infectious smile when you arrive. Sadly hidden behind a mask, when we are all free of having to wear them, we will be back to being in the perfect cafe again

Vegan brunch... bit pricey, but did the job. Lovely hash browns. Linda McCartney sausages.. well presented. Would prefer a teapot for a tea rather than mug with a tea bag... however tasty and filling

Kate provides an extremely well sourced wholesome breakfasts, I have never tasted better. I would highly recommend and please spread the word! Have definitely missed during this pandemic and looking forward to the time when she officially opens.

Went with a friend at short notice without doing more than just looking in the door and getting a feel for the place. Had Sausage egg and chips and a coffee. Very good, decent service and reasonable price

Excellent service, good toasted teacake with plenty of butter and jam. The Wi-Fi didn't work very well and I would have liked it to be just a bit warmer but it was comfortable nonetheless. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best cafes in Portswood, especially if you want a good cooked breakfast, been in here before and always come back when I'm staying in the area. I stayed in a local hotel a short walk away, but opted out of including the breakfast there as I knew I would be going here anyway. I chose the vegetarian breakfast and it was a good choice, very good. Staff are friendly and the place is comfortable and clean, will be back again next year.

Not the cheapest cafe on the high street, but they prepare their own food from local produce. Different daily specials always worth checking out, frequently a little Cosmopolitan for my taste, but very chic and truly lovely staff.

Me recordó de estar en un balneario. Y la taza de té (a pesar de ser una bolsita de té en una taza) fue elaborada a la perfección.

Mi pareja y yo hemos estado comiendo brunch aquí regularmente un viernes desde hace bastante tiempo, y nunca me ha decepcionado. Kate tiene muchos clientes habituales, y los cuida a todos por igual. I love Kate's Cafe, and not just because I'm a Kate too! It's cosy, especially in the back area with the sofas, very reasonably priced, with friendly staff. The breakfast hash is great for a big morning eat, paninis are tasty and as a weird aside I really like the dressing they put on the side salads. I've been many times now and have never been disappointed.

I had some lunch here and was pleasantly suprised. I had stopped by once before and wasn't impressed by the staffs attitude to customers, but today found that the staff were all lovely, friendly and efficient - so 10/10.

Found a new perfect place to a brunch, Such a delicious full English. Good menu selection and all at decent price. The food was good and hot when served. Bit of mess on the plate like it had been chucked on, nevertheless none was wasted.

We go to Kate's every weekend as do our friends and many others who have become regulars there. Kate is an amazing person and there is no one and nowhere that is more friendly. Visited for a lazy breakfast at the weekend and was greeted by lovely staff. There are plenty of options for breakfast and I would recommend the breakfast hash.

Went there with my mum for a late lunch and enjoyed a lovely panini - liked the food so much I came back 2 days later for the same with my friend.

We had a late breakfast here in May. Good portion sizes and a quick service. The facilities weren’t in a good way but to their credit they had a notice up to say so.

Kate Cafe is excellent, they cater extremely well for Families and I often take my daughter in there for lunch. The food is fresh and well cooked, the prices are good value and they get your food to you very quickly. Highly recommended!

This little independent cafe is third in best places for coffee in Southampton. That may be accurate but it goes to show how weak this city is for coffee. The whole hipster trend seems to have passed Southampton by. No bad thing you might think, but then if you are used to excellently sourced coffee made by people who love the stuff, then best give Southampton a miss and travel along the coast to Southsea or Brighton.

Service here is impeccable and always with a smile. The ingredients are locally sourced, and overseen by the owners very high standards. A great place to go for breakfast of a weekend.

Menu for breakfast is great. Always tastey, well cooked, presented and speedy service. The back room is great for families.

We have always supported Kates as an independent business. Today the server could not add up two prices hardly speak English and was quite frankly rude. Standards have fallen so we will not be eating here again.

Normally we plump for the breakfast hash but today it was Full English all the way. Smokey smoked back bacon, delish sausage, free range egg (extra egg for me), grilled half tomato, hash browns, beans, mushrooms & toast..... All rounded off with a latté...YUMMY ❤

We've been coming here since Kates opened and its still as good as ever. The veggie breakfast sets us up for the day, and the jacket spuds are the best in the area. The only problem is it can get busy at peak times. Check out the quirky collection of salt'n'pepper pots!

We visited the cafe after reading good reviews and we really fancied breakfast at 2pm so not many places still do breakfast that late. I ordered kate's hash and my other half-full breakfast. It was so so tasty!! Amazing. Will definitely come back!!

Popped in for some late breakfast today and was more than pleasantly surprised. I'd recommend "Kate's Full Breakfast Hash" (see photo), certainly filled a hole and tasted great.

The cafe was clean, bright and very tastefully decorated almost like being at home. The staff were all very polite and friendly. There are several choices of seating arrangements - outside seating, normal tables in the main part, cafe style high chairs facing out the window and a lounge area with sofas out the back lounge, so something for everyone.

We love Kate's! Great for brunch, quick service, friendly staff. No complaints, although your clothes might smell a teeny bit breakfast-y after visiting.

Being a bit of a breakfast hound I'd thought I'd been to most places in Southampton...until my daughter brought me and my wife here yesterday with her boyfiend. We all had Kate's Breakfast Hash as seen in the picture. It was so good the my wife and I are back again. Nuff said ❤

This cafe gives off a unique vibe; it's not a chain - it's somebody called 'kate' who loves cooking! It's diverse in customers - I'd say mainly friends for a quick cuppa/ lunch, students...it's a place I take small people for a snack. Perfect for English breakfast options. The theme & decor is seaside/beach - it's a fun place to be....not a place for a serious convo or date. TRY THE HOMEMADE MARMALADE!

I've been a number of times with different people and always found it to be excellent. It is also generally really well priced and has enough menu choices for a light snack or something more substantial.

While recently visiting family for Christmas, my mum and I went for a wander around Portswood. Its dotted with great little shops and a nice atmosphere. We stopped into Kates Café for a tea. There was an area outside to sit as well as a lounge area in back with couches. The store front setting was bright warm and cozy. They serve a great all day breakfast and the chilli was amazing and the menu was quite varied. The sweets were also great. My next visit... I know where I'm headed for a lunch.

We go here regularly both for an easy lunch when there's no food in the house, and if we want a nice lunch or breakfast out as a treat. The food is always great and the portions are generous. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices. The staff are always friendly and they frequently have interesting specials.

This café is too dam exp its cheeper to go two doors down, yes it might be all home made food, more resons it should be cheeper, but oh hang on if your a student you get it cheep, so its the pension people who pay the bill.

Everyone kept recommending this place to me when I moved here. When I saw their menu, they had the basic cafe menu (variety of english breakfasts, paninis, sanwiches, etc) and I was wondering why this place was highly recommended with a standard menu so I thought I might give it a try. I ordered the scrambled eggs with toast for lunch (breakfast is served till 3pm) and they were the best scrambled eggs I've ever had. I will be forever disappointed in the future scrambled eggs that I make because they will never be as good as the ones I had from Kate's Cafe. I will definitely go there again and try their other items because I definitely want to eat it if it is as good as their scrambled eggs. I now know why this place is rated highly.

What a surprise great food great hygiene. Highly recommend. The food was piping hot, great waitress. And for those that like to know spotlessly clean toilets.

I had the best english breakfast in Kate's Cafè. it's an independent cafè, which uses local products (sausages are delicious).

Stopped off with my wife for something to eat and quick coffee. The atmosphere was ok and coffee very nice, however the one thing we stopped there for was severely disappointing. The food was way below par. Tasted bland and almost like straight from a packet and microwaved. May be back for coffee but we wont eat here again

A great little café in Portswood. I always try to eat there when im in the area. I love the 'full english' breakfast. Everything is cooked fresh. The place is clean, bright and comfortable. I highly recommend this café to anyone who wants a good breakfast or lunch!

It's a tatty little place without much character. I ordered scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The eggs had been cooked too hot and were served wet, sitting in their own water. The salmon was cooked through it (why? ... Stale perhaps?) and was dry; to be honest I was worried it was over date or poor quality.

I went to lunch today at kate,s cafe had Vegetarian sausages and chip's and beans very Disappointed with the meal the sausages where very Bland I always eat Linda McCartney sausages and they have never tasted like that. And for the price I got charged wasn't good either £6.95 the plate size was like a child size. .The cafe needs to be cleaned up to I saw dust on the floor and on the wood work on the walls. I'm Surprised that it has a (5) star rating

Popped in for lunch whilst in Portswood last week. Some lovely items on the menu. I tried a quiche with salad and chips. Delicious homemade quiche. Many things of interest showing that Kate's is trying to be a quality local café-free range eggs, sausages from local butcher's, Kate's mum's marmalade and fantastic looking cakes. I'll be back.

Went for breakfast with some friends this morning. We were a little early and were asked to wait outside (wasn't best pleased that my older friends were left outside in the cold especially as I had suggested we meet here) anyway eventually we were shown in and offered a large table. Happy to say that all the food and drinks were really nice. We all ordered a variety of different thing to eat and everyone enjoyed I went for the vegetarian breakfast which was hot and tasty. Nice coffee and we weren't rushed. Busy little place. Get there early but not too early. :-)

Good quality food, friendly service, bustling and cosy ambience - what's not to like? A great choice for a relaxed brunch with friends.

I come here often for brunch as the ingredients are local and/or well-sourced, the portions are just right, and the prices are competitive. Additionally the coffee is good too (think better than costa etc but not quite Mettricks), and the hot chocolate is not too sweet and made fully with milk. The Breakfast Bap is the perfect choice for those who want to feast on baco/sausage/egg but don't have the stomach or budget for a full english. I think the focus on quality ingredients is what gives Kate's the edge.

Not the most fashionable part of town, but the best breakfast on earth! On the Unilink from airport or city centre, or park in the side street opposite.

I went with a friend for brunch before a meeting. I had the All day breakfast and my friend had the Gluten Free breakfast. They were plentiful and delicious. We finished it off with coffee and cake which was very naughty but very nice. It is lovely to see a cafe serving such a range of Gluten Free items.

Decor needs to be redecorated .and cleaned up.. had a good coffee in their and food was just ok have had better else where

Kate's does a great breakfast and there area plenty of options for special diets: vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free are all catered for. I enjoyed a dairy-free veggie breakfast - the hash browns and proper fried mushrooms were delicious. A decent-sized pot of tea for one rounded it off. I even felt virtuous knowing that the tea is fair trade and rainforest certified and that the ingredients were as local as possible. The one thing I'd change is to make it a bit more homely in decor/seating, but this really is unimportant when enjoying such good food.

Without doubt Kate's Cafe serves the best breakfast in Town. Her chilli burgers are also to die for. You can always be assured of a level of service that is second to none and you will always be made welcome, and there is nothing that Kate.or her very friendly staff will do for you.

This is no greasy spoon, the ingredients are from a well known local butcher and very high quality. Service is always top drawer and the food excellent. Sometimes hard to get a table but that's not a criticism, very popular little place. Recommend.

Kate's cafe is by far the best cafe in Portswood, and my favourite in the whole of Southampton, in fact. Their butchers selection of sausages, free range eggs & local artists work on the walls makes Kate's the only cafe in Southampton that I ever want to visit. It's comfortable, friendly, their cakes & even Kate's mum's marmalade is all fresh & cooked with care. My friends and I often like to go here for their breakfast & the cafe is popular with locals & students alike.

I visit Kate's quite a lot the food is great and the service is great, best of all the prices are cheap to! The great thing is that the food doesn't take ages to arrive either.

The cafe attracts a very wide range of local people. It is bright and cheerful with friendly staff. Fairly standard cafe menu but the food is fresh and of good quality. Only quibble is that cakes are a bit dull.

Located in Portswood's main shopping area within 5 mins walk of the main public car park Kate's Café Lounge is an unpretentious café offering a good choice of dishes which were good value for money. The service was friendly & efficient. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality, quantity & presentation of our meals. Kate's Café is clearly a popular venue & we would certainly go there again if we were looking for a light meal or maybe to try the breakfast which has been recommended to us.

I have been in Southampton, UK for 2 months now and from word of mouth, I thought I would dine in Kate's Café myself! I ordered the spinach & chickpea curry served with rice, naan bread and mango chutney. I have tasted many curries and this curry was amazing! It was on the specials board, so I don't think its a permanent meal. Anyway absolutely beautiful and hit the spot for an Aussie! Definitely recommend this for all travellers or whoever may come across this review! A place you will recieve great service with nicely priced meals. Last but not least you don't have to wait ages for your order to be served! Chef worth keeping. I also enjoyed my cappuccino, beautiful! I come here quite often on a Sunday morning for brunch before church. I have never had a bad breakfast here. The hash is something else, a mountain of bacon and thick sausage with hot beans and potatoes and an egg, pure bliss. I love that it's popular without ever being full and that the staff are always friendly.

Kate's Cafe is a cute little cafe on Portswood High Street that packs a good punch when it comes to sit down eating. There's not a great amount of choice in Portswood but Kate's Cafe is definitely worth visiting.

Lovely little cafe on the high street, very cosy and popular with local people. Could be more options for larger breakfasts if you have a larger appetite. Home made food and locally sourced ingredients. Pictures also for sale on the walls if you like art.

lovely Cafe which provides good service and cracking fresh breakfasts. I notice a couple of people saying that they are small? Absolute rubbish unless you like gorging yourself! Go to cheap cafe that pile up the food then where they use cheap ingredients if it's quantity you want! I went here for brunch and was pleased with the wide selection on the menu. All the food was fresh and tasty-one of the best breakfasts I have had, the coffee was yummy. The staff were all very friendly and I liked the beach theme of the cafe. Will definitely be going back again with friends and spreading the word.

Kate sources her food locally whatever your dietary quirks. The coffee is always excellent as is the food, service, background music. Nothing on the menu is carved in stone and nothing is too much trouble. Kate's breakfast hash is simply the best breakfast this side of the Yukon and is living proof that there are people who know how to cook potatoes - in this case, beautifully and addictively! AND EGGS!

Great local cafe with a good value menu that doesn't sacrifice food quality. Wonderful staff who were really accommodating and don't hurry you if you want to stick around for a chat after your meal. So happy that this is my local cafe!
