Mike's Fish & Chips Restaurant in Southampton

I recently treated my uncle to a true British culinary experience. He never tried fish and chips before, so I took him to one of the Southamptons best chippy. I ordered large haddock and chips and he decided to get large cod and chips. Both of the fishes were delicious and very fresh. You can tell that the fish was not frozen because it did not had the weird aftertaste. I would say the haddock was better than the cod, but it all comes down to what you prefer in the end. Out of all the fish and chips I have ever eaten, this gets crowned for the biggest one. I genuinely had a hard time finishing mine and my uncle just couldn’t finish it. At around £14 per person, including drinks, the price was reasonable considering the quantity of the food. They also serve other chippy classics such as scampi, cod roe, fishcake and many more. Overall if you ever fancy a proper fish and chips then you should give this place a go.

Really tasty Fish and Chips, the best in Southampton. The Cod was cooked to perfection and chips were just right. Good customer service and large portions. Not expensive. We dined in. I give it 5 stars.

Don't normally write reviews but had to on this one!!!!! First class customer service before I even ordered. I ordered Large cod Large chips and Large battered sausage and curry sauce OMG!!!!!! Best fish I've ever tasted excellent chips were banging to everything was see you next week guys!!!!

my order was not delivered and I have asked for my money back I am a pensioner take the money out off the delivery block wages he delivered to the wrong addresses so u owe me 13 pound 31pence

Everything was hot cooked properly and fresh

Quick and delicious! Arrived hot and fresh, it was really tasty. One of the best chippies around.

An absolute gem! Low key and laid back. We ate in. The atmosphere is not what you come for (though it was clean and comfortable). The haddock was incredible. We recommend the curry sauce for the chips. If you love great fish and chips, you will want to visit Mikes. Cheers!

Ordered 3 different kind of fish with chips, cod roe and 2 types of sausages. Decent place for a casual lunch but nothing to shout about the texture of fish and batter. Normal fish chips and sausages with reasonable price.

I was very unpleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Ordered small chips and small haddock, was charged for large haddock and received small chips and small cod. Not sure why I waited for so long, as was presented with very dry fish, that must have been at the counter for some time. Batter was crumbly, soggy and dry: I know it might sound incredible, but was very dry and over-done on the outside and crumbly, soggy and mushy on the inside. Chips were enjoyable. Why it took me by surprise was that I had 2 take away orders with them previously and they were outstanding: freshly prepared fish in a box, chips in a seperate box and packaged in a paper carrier bag, why the standard is so much lower for walk ins only they can tell. So I might give them another chance for take away order, but no-no for walk in, unless they implement my feedback. Come on guys, raise the bar for walk ins not to loose your loyal customers. I know you can do better and I am as a customer would be only happy for you to improve. Alisa :)

Very good today but the chips need cooking for a couple of minutes longer, last time the chips were inedible as they were half cooked and this time they were much better but there were still a few undercooked ones.

My host has such special skills in welcoming his guests. So attentive caring with empathy. The fish cooked to order so fresh and tasty. Highly commended.

We went here based on all the good reviews, and it did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly and the food was amazing! The portions of fish were huge. I would definitely encourage you to check this place out if you are looking for really good fish and chips!

The best I have had in the UK with affordable price. I got a cod and it was so fresh and delicious. Parking lot is available in front of the shop. Recommended

The cod was the best bit of fish I’ve had for ages and the chips are excellent as well, massive portions.will definitely be using that as my regular chippy

Great chips freshly cooked got a portion as my sen daughter needed some ro eat in another restaurant that didn't do chips

Service was atrocious was waiting for over 20 mins. Food was not good gave the worst tummy ache. Did not even allow for door to be closed as there was people smoking right outside. Will never be returning here again

Absolutely amazing fish & chips, especially the fish was very moist and had just the right amount of batter. Probably the best I ever had. We also tried the steak and kidney pie which we also liked and enjoyed a fried mars bar for dessert (see picture). They do accept payment by card, which makes it very easy for those out of town. Big extra plus for the friendliness of the staff and the generous portions. Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely will eat here again!

I recently dined at this fish place and was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant doesn't hide its look, leaning into the retro vibe without any obvious markings. The kitchen was observantly clean, and the staff were nice and welcoming. It's a cash-only establishment, which was a pity, but I overheard it was because the card machine was down. Don't be put off by the staff speaking another language—it doesn't take away from the authenticity of it all. This place caters to both locals and tourists, with many regulars frequenting it. They seem to do other foods quite well too—I noticed a gentleman enjoying a decently seasoned and cooked half chicken across from me. The table was wiped clean, and despite some colour inconsistencies from age, there wasn't a speck of dirt, which was wholly impressive. The fish is made to order, so take a minute to let it cool down. It's incredible—an impressive cut, nice size, with a batter that's just right. Not too much, not too little. Bang. On. Highly recommended!

Counter service, sticky and wobbly table. Very large, undercooked and floury fries. 10 pounds for fish and chips. I had chosen this restaurant thanks to the good rating but I doubt the veracity of all these positive ratings.

Missing sausage rung restaurant who saif there give me sausage on next order its not good enough i ordered it today for a reason. Now 1 of my kids went without. Shame because i like this chippy.but dissapointed today.

Okay this may sound strange, but I have just eaten a portion of fish and chips from Mikes, in France. My wife and daughter ate there Saturday evening and brought me a cod and chips back. Used to live in Soton many years ago, still fantastic after being frozen and re-heated here in France. Would always recommend. Also my mother normally pops to Mikes for a cheeky burger when in town on her own. Thanks guys wish you could deliver to France.

Really really bloody good! Tried uber eats out and this place came up as reccomend. Amazing portion sizes, such huge fresh fish and gorgeous golden chips. Proper mushy peas too - we will absolutely order again omg. So nice to find a proper chippy!

I had an incredible experience at Mike's Fish and Chips! The fish and chips were absolutely amazing, with the fish perfectly crispy and the chips golden and delicious. The staff were exceptionally kind and bright, adding a wonderful touch to the overall atmosphere. The combination of great food, friendly service, and a cheerful vibe makes this chippy a must-visit. Highly recommended!

From an American: might be the best fish & chips you will find. Light, fresh cod. Very large portions. Look no further. We found it on YouTube and was highly recommended.

I frequently visited Mike's when I worked in Southampton 10 years ago because the fish was so good. Returning now, it's even better than I remembered! Very thin, crispy batter, not oily at all, generous portions and not overcooked. Good chips. Very clean and friendly service. The salad on the table next to ours looked freshly made and very good too. Will try that next time.

On a recent post-cruise trip to Southampton UK we had a great taxi driver (Zach) take us sightseeing. Then I said I would like some authentic UK food - fish and chips. He said he had the perfect place and took us to Mike's Fish and Chips. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly! I sure wish I was where I could have their food again! Highly recommend!

We drove a few miles to find an eat in chippy late one eveming, 5 adults with 6 kids we were not disappointed clean place, pleasant staff, good food. Close parking on street if it's not too busy.

Standard Fish and Chips shop, they were busy at the time so food wasn't out super quick, but the quality was as expected. Fish was very good, portion size was large. Chips could have been cooked a bit longer as they were slightly mushy.

Bit of a wait and a bit on the pricey side, but when it came the food was excellent.

Food was great, delivered nice and hot. however, I'm sorry... when I used to order a gherkin it was huge!! this one was the size of my thumb for a £1 and soft and yucky!!! Stick to the food, stay away from the pickles !!!

Fresh fish and really large portion of fish and chips... Very tasty. The ambience was more like a chip shop but we didn't want to move in there but instead wanted to eat delicious food. We were able to do that 👍

The peas in the peas fritters weren't very nice. They seemed dry, like it had been frozen and defrosted a couple of times, and the batter was soggy. The spring roll, which I thought came as a pair, was greasy and didn't have much filling. The chips weren't great. The only thing that was enjoyable was the fish. I won't order from here again.

Food was over 20 minutes late. Veggie burger was just literally a dry burger in a dry bun, no sauce or salad. Spring roll was overcooked. Pea fritter was horrible. However, the chips were the best I've tasted in a long time. Over all for the price I was very disappointed and wouldn't order from this restaurant again.

Beautiful fish and chips. Ordered this afternoon for 18.30pm, it arrived at 19.45!!! This is the second time this has happened. Had hoped it was a one off but obviously not!!!

Mike's is a great fish and chip shop. you won't be disappointed with the quality of food and service you get from these guys. They could teach Paul's Plaice in Bishops Waltham and some other chip shops a thing or two that's for sure.

Personally my favorite chippy in the local area. Always good flavor and texture with a good portion size. A strong 4.8 out of 5

Food was amazing, but I ordered for 18.30pm and we received it 19.30pm. But would really recommend as fish and batter were really lovely.

My father wanted to show his grandson what fish and chips are supposed to be. Mike’s Fish and Chips did not disappoint. The cod was delicious, flaky and enormous. And the potatoes were fluffy and perfect - great chips! The owner is kind, friendly, and welcoming. It was an excellent meal and we all wholeheartedly recommend a visit!

Super Fisch and ships. Zum Ambiente, Naja Imbis eben, schlicht und einfan, man kann drinnen essen oder mitnehmen. 2 mal Fisch and Ships plus 2 Cola für 23 Pfund fand ich für die Menge absolut ok.

Ordered at 5:30pm for 7pm delivery. Item delivered 20 minutes late and was cold when delivered. Won’t be ordering again.
