10/10 restaurant, would very much recommend to anyone. The food here has repeatedly been among the best meals i've ever had, and it always feels like a very fancy dinner. We got to meet the chef the last time we went, and had a great conversation about what to choose on the menu. Really can't recommend enough, definitely worth trying!

It's a very cozy Italian restaurant, with very friendly and professional staff, wonderful service, and excellent food. The mushroom risotto was spectacular.

A bottle of white, a bottle of red Perhaps a bottle of rosé instead...acknowledgement to Billy Joel. Walk through the throng of Mayflower disciples and past insalubrious takeaways to the unprepossessing entrance of Soleto and through to smart tables dressed in crisp white cloths. The calamitous show across the road had emptied Soleto, giving us a nice nook to ourselves. Rather then one assigned server, we had an antipasti of indifference. The wine recommendation was Frappato siciliane, the house wine - excellent - but why not a Puglian? The arm of the cosa notra is long. Hush, I promised myself no cheap mafia jokes. All the dishes are prepared freshly and allowance was made for allergies and preferences. My friends all chose squiggly seafood starters and declared them "historic". My burrata had no such credentials. The secundi were rather ordinary. My ragu linguine was not like mama used to make, just as well because my mama was Indian. A chorus of "it's fine " around the table described the main courses. Scattering of desserts preceded a scattering of friends. But not before the reckoning. £80 per capito. Not good value and not merited by the food or the service.

We stopped on a Sunday evening, not a big night out in Southampton, and we weren’t super hungry. I wish we had been because the food is excellent, service friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere cozy. Two of us split an appetizer then a pasta. The burrata is the very best we’ve ever tasted. The special salmon pappardelle in a cream tomato basil sauce was very fine, flavors complementary. The best compliment I can pay is Solteto makes you close your eyes to savor a bite. I wish we’d had the appetite for some wine and tiramisu. This place is a treasure. It’s not inexpensive but given the quality, it’s an excellent value.

A beautiful restaurant, run by very friendly people who care about great service. Food was absolutely stunning and my wife cried almost while eating a prawn in her seafood risotto it was that good. Yes it’s not cheap but if you want to eat on a budget go to Wetherspoons !

Total quality restaurant, lovely style from quality glasses, cutlery and napkins down to scented candles in the loos. The food was delicious, served in good time, and the staff weren't overly intrusive or slow, pretty much one of the best places I've eaten in a long time.

The server was what I assume an Italian gentleman of outmost eloquence, served us some excellent food and drinks and seemed passionate, I even noticed him closing a window above the door so that it's comfortable for an elderly couple. Bravo The place itself is quite quaint and cozy, do give it a try.

Whilst the atmosphere, decor and service are all good, this is an expensive choice for pre-theatre dining. A pre theatre set menu would not be impossible to come up with. Pasta dishes are good - they should be at just shy of £20. The saltimbocca was good but at £30 was overpriced for the portion size. It is in a great position being right opposite the Mayflower Theatre so is popular. There is a bit of a rush to the toilet as people prepare to go to the theatre - the couple seated near the toilet have my sympathy.

Fabulous food and service, an excellent menu & specials board with top hospitality from George & the team. One of Southamptons best restaurants, definitely worth a visit.

One of the gems of Southampton, unbelievable food and brilliant service with a great knowledge of wine.

Food was very average for the price. The atmosphere is great and the service is great too - albeit solely reserved for the one male waiter, hence the 4 stars, but less so for one female waitress on the older side who was not too friendly. Had higher expectations for the food and was definitely disappointed in this regard, especially with the associated price tag. 5 stars for the atmosphere, and would’ve been a higher rating had the pricing not been extortionate for the quality of food. Either have great food and corresponding higher pricing, or keep the food as is (!) and lower the prices. In any case, friendly waiter, pleasant atmosphere, and good company were the highlights of our night.

Having booked a show at the local theatre we researched and selected this restaurant in the main as it had a lovely menu and was walking distance to the hotel and theatre. Booked over the phone and the gentleman was lovely. We arrived and from the first moment to the last the service was great. We especially liked the chef / owner coming to each table to ask how the food and service was. The service stayed already was great and the food was lovely. Indeed my favourite bruschetta to date and I’ve been Italy a few times too. The pasta was terrific and puddings superb. Would we come back if we were in the area again absolutely. 💯

Walked in on an off chance they might have a table for 2 before the theatre and they did. Busy place with a great atmosphere. The food was excellent, very very tasty ! We only had main courses because we only had an hour before the theatre but the starters and desserts also looked lovely. Nice authentic feel about the place and reasonably priced

We went here for lunch prior to a show at the Mayflower. All I can say is that it was OUTSTANDING. The food was exceptional, the service fabulous and the atmosphere welcoming. Great restaurant. Wish I lived in Southampton so I could visit more often!

Nuestra primera visita a Soleto fue un bocado rápido antes de ir al teatro. Elegí Soleto por la ubicación y el menú, sin darme cuenta de que resultaría ser una verdadera joya. A pesar de llegar un poco tarde y solo tener tiempo para un plato, el servicio durante toda la comida fue brillante y no intrusivo. Realmente se sentía como si el personal se preocupaba, e incluso el chef apareció para preguntar cómo era nuestra comida. Mi esposa tenía el risotto de hongos, y yo la lingüina de marisco. Never been to this restaurant before, but was recommended. Went with some girlfriends for a meal before going to the theatre. Found it an absolutely charming Italian restaurants. Fantastic, decor great atmosphere, had a table at the end of the restaurant with a gorgeous chandelier overhead,. Loved the wine, glasses and glassware. Service was excellent staff were lovely and attentive. Meals came out extremely quickly and were fresh and delicious. Wonderful, hidden gem would highly recommend.

Called to book a last minute table before seeing a show at the Mayflower and thankfully they were able to fit us in. Brilliant food, service and atmosphere. We had the rib-eye steak, chorizo rigatoni and chicken with Parma ham, it was all delicious and well cooked. I'm assuming it was the head chef/owner who came by the table when we finished our meals to check-in on us, which was a really nice touch. Very rare to come across a restaurant like this where the service is so personable and friendly. Thank you all for a fabulous pre-show meal.

Wonderful ambience, lovely white table cloths, gleaming glassware and cutlery, superb service, lovely food with quality ingredients - priced accordingly but worth it. However, all just slightly marred by the "discretionary"service charge of a whopping 12.5 % - surely tipping should be left to the client not added to the bill. Almost a perfect evening.

Waiter was engaging and extremely kind, funny, the food was great, the only thing I will say is there is needed more options of Italian food such as, gnocchi and pizza. I think the atmosphere is needed a more bigger environment but other than that the atmosphere was amazing. I would have liked a drink menu just might have been easier. But it was so amazing and will be coming back.

Great wine but very, very average food. We went for a meal before visiting the theatre and I ordered risotto funghi and Saltimbocca. The risotto had a decent texture but had almost no flavour of mushroom whatsoever. It also arrived within about five minutes so obviously wasn't cooked to order. The Saltimbocca was burnt in places, didn't seem to have any sage, and the portion was tiny. Originally seated under the stairs, we moved because it was literally like eating in a broom cupboard. The service wasn't terrible but we had three different people look after us, waited ages for the bill and then to pay. Overall a very bland experience.

Easily one of the best restaurants in Southampton. Amazing, flavourful Italian food and friendly service. The restaurant’s interior is beautifully decorated. Their Risotto Porcini is perhaps the best version of mushroom risotto I’ve ever tasted.

Weird interaction with the owner, Dominika Jiojioras. She’s an anti-vaxer who will talk your ear off about the topic out of nowhere. The conversation was unsolicited. 😬 I suggest patroning another restaurant to avoid potential awkward interactions with her if she’s present.

Had a wonderful lre theatre dining experience here. The quality of the ingredients, the taste and the service were all outstanding. This is the best meal I've eaten since moving South from London, and we will definitely return.

Service was good, food was okay but steaks were tough, though were replaced. On the whole it's expensive, and paying £7 extra for surf and turf that consisted of half a prawn beggars belief.

This restaurant has a lovely authentic feel about it from the minute you step inside. It is beautifully decorated and a warm ambience. We went for a works christmas dinner and had a really delicious dinner from the christmas set menu. The prices are really good for the quality of the dinner - I knew it would be good and I have always wanted to come here and now I cant wait to come back.

Soleto Bistro is an incredible Italian restaurant that instantly transports you back to Renaissance-era Italy with its charming and vintage decor. Every dish here is a masterpiece—whether it’s the starters or the main courses, the flavours are absolutely authentic and impossible to replicate. As a dessert lover, I was particularly impressed by their handmade treats. The tiramisu and Belgian dark chocolate dessert are simply addictive—absolute must-tries! The service is exceptional as well, making the whole dining experience even more delightful. Without a doubt, this is my number one Italian restaurant in Southampton. I’ve already been here twice, and I can’t wait for my third, fourth, and fifth visits and more! Highly recommended!

Incredible, best Italian in southampton by far.

Food grat, service great. Took off one star for atmosphere because the restaurant is very cramped with tables very close together and therefore a bit uncomfortable and noisy.

My review is not of the food because unfortunately we were unable to try any! I called and booked a table for the evening before a show and a few weeks later received a call back to tell me they have to move my reservation to 5pm which is too early as I have my children to look after. Just got told they couldn’t honour my booking in that case so they had obviously overbooked. Shame that we didn’t get to try and don’t think I’ll be booking again as I felt like they couldn’t care less whether we attended or not to be honest!

The best pasta I have ever had in a while!

Lovely little restaurant; impeccably clean (esp toilets), great staff, and the food was unbelievably good. And excellent VFM. Just occasionally you go somewhere not anticipating greatness, and everything is just perfect. What a lovely evening. Best meal out we have had this year. Do try it.

Found this little Italian Restaurant whilst waiting to go to the Mayflower Theatre for a matinee performance…. A superb find! Lovely fresh food and wonderful staff! Recommended!

Beautiful interior. That's it! Wildly OVERPRICED, MEDIOCRE food, EXPENSIVE wine, TINY portions (so tiny that they should at least offer free bread!). I would say central London prices in a backwater Southampton street. Prices are at least 30% too high I'm afraid! Theatre must be MANNA FROM HEAVEN ☹

This is my first review, prompted by a deeply disappointing experience at this restaurant. With considerable experience in the food industry, I expected the produce to be fresh and well-sourced, especially given the restaurant's location. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I began with the calamari, which was not fresh and tasted as though it had been defrosted and microwaved. For my main course, I ordered the ribeye steak. Although it was cooked well, the meat was extremely tough and did not mask its poor quality. Additionally, all the food was served at an uncomfortably cold temperature. It seemed that, on this particular night, the staff was attempting to compensate for the subpar service and food quality by offering excessive amounts of parmesan cheese. My partner and I were approached three times by different servers, each offering more cheese instead of addressing our need for water. In summary, while the atmosphere was pleasant, the overall experience was an unfortunate waste of money that I would have preferred to spend elsewhere.

Nice food, very overpriced. After seeing the reviews, we went for a birthday lunch. We knew that it was on the expensive side but thought that it sounded really good. I can’t really complain about anything apart from the fact that it was very expensive for an ok meal.

Visited again last night (19th Oct 24), again er had a superb meal and service was wonderful. Really cannot fault anything about Soleto, it’s def a restaurant on my regular list and if you haven’t been yet, you must try it. Best Italian in Southampton by far. ………………………………………… We were recommended by friends who own a restaurant in southampton. We don’t normally visit this area in Southampton… god am I glad we did! Genuinely cannot believe we haven’t eaten here before as we have tried most places and live food food. Soleto did not disappoint at all. Wonderful atmosphere / ambience in the restaurant ( wry romantic). Service was attentive… however the food was the star of the show! We had bruschetta to start (fab!) I had the special of Sea Bass with a prawn cream sauce, Mrs had Carbonara. Both were fantastic. The food was served on Lovely plates as well . We will def be making this a regular eating place from now on, and I don’t recommend many places, but 100% can recommend Soleto. Thanks for a wonderful evening and see you soon.

This is a hidden gem, beautifully decorated. The service is impeccable and the food leaves a lasting impression. It’s delicious making you want more!! The toilets are so clean, with a nice smelling candle. The decor is very rustic, with a touch of luxury but homely. The dinning space is very intimate & helps you escape from the city. This is a gorgeous restaurant to visit. Thank you x

Enjoyed a delicious three course meal here. We were fortunate enough to be seated on a Friday evening without having booked. A little on the pricey side and I'm not a fan of a 12.5% service charge that is automatically added on to the bill, however the ambience and service was spot on. The chef even came out to see that guests were enjoying their food. My only advice is not to go particularly hungry unless you plan to have multiple courses or a couple of sides because the portions are a little modest.

This is a wonderful gem of a restaurant. Top quality food and service. Always an enjoyable experience.

The food is excellent, I had the seabass and my partner had the seafood linguine, and we could not fault it for preparation, presentation and quality. The service is superb, the staff were really friendly and efficient. We were made to feel very welcome, and would highly recommend Soleto.

Delicious food in this cosy restaurant. Waitress was very friendly. We had saltimbocca and ravioli funghi. The portions look a little small but there's enough to fill your tummy and have some space for dessert. Recommended!

Exquisite hospitality. Booking was for late dining for a party of 10. Staff were very good with my daughter and even though I believe they close at 10, they still didn't rush us and still offered us desert. Hard working staff. Thank you so much, if I lived in Southampton I would be a regular here

We were looking for somewhere to have a nice meal ahead of a theatre visit. Wow, what a find Soleto was. The decor is relaxed, quirky and welcoming. The food was a delight, just the right portions and cooked to perfection. We had Burrata and Risotto to start and rack of lamb and Saltimbocca for mains. All were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The owner George popped out to say hi and check we were having a nice meal. We will definitely be back. If you want great food and a warm welcoming atmosphere then Soleto is well worth a visit.

We were out for a special night and wanted a meal out that fitted the occasion and the Soleto met the standard. The restaurant has the Italian feel bistro, a little quirky non-uniform layout. Friendly attentive service to guide you to an excellent choice. A great range of selection of meals. We chose to pick off the gold framed special board. Seafood risotto and a rack of lamb, delicious. We also had the antipasto to share for starter and a bottle of Malbec to accompany the meal. Out for something a little special a definable choice.

We had lunch here prior to a a visit to the Mayflower. I had the seafood linguini and my wife had the salmon and vegetables. We liked we had to wait a while for our dishes as it shows it was cooked fresh. We both had chocolate tart and mango sorbet. We found the food delicious and service impeccable. With a glass of wine and soft drink the bill came to £101.25 with 12/5 service charge.

Absolutely outstanding restaurant. When I saw the other reviews I expected it to be “good” but I truly had what may have been one of the best meals of my life. Fantastic service too. Tables slightly cramped, but all part of the atmosphere I think.

Favourite restaurant in Southampton! We go here often and never leave disappointed. We love the food and the staff, they are always polite and chatty… never make us feel rushed. A great wine selection. We also took 16 of our staff here for a dinner party and they all loved it. Great aesthetic and lovely cosy vibe. The chef always comes out for a chat. Will be back soon!

I can’t recommend this place enough. An authentic Italian restaurant just sitting opposite the Mayflower theatre. It was unexpected as I’d simply booked an early dinner for 2 adults and 2 children. While I knew it must be an independent Italian restaurant I was not prepared for how utterly indulgent it was. A luxuriously decadent dining room offering authentic freshly cooked Italian dishes with immaculate service. The children shared a pasta dish and the chef served it beautifully in two separate dishes for them. The carbonara, ravioli fungi, risotto porcini, burrata and Eton mess were all delicious! Thanks for having us and we’ll be back for sure.

I ate in this restaurant a couple of weeks ago in Southampton with friends, and I had to come back as the food was so good! George the owner and chef came out to say hello and Nina the manageress both remembered me and greated me as one of their regulars, which the clearly have lots of! I would strongly recommend the baked Camembert or Burrata to start, the Pollo Soleto or the Sea Bass for main and Triamasu or the Chocolate and salted caramel tart is divine for dessert! We have numerous excellent restaurants in Jersey where we live and I only wish you could move over to the Island to be one of them! Thanks to George, Nina, Virgina who made us feel at home they were all excellent!

What a little gem this is! Even the bathroom feels like a five star hotel. Fantastic food made with quality ingredients and so tasty, staff bending over to assist and the chef even came out to check we enjoyed our meal. I love this restaurant. Food is exquisite. It's not cheap but it's worth every penny totally a wonderful experience and really super for a big family meal or date night !

I have eaten in many places in Southampton, many places in England, and many places in the world. This was one of my least favourite place of all. I feel robbed of my money. Look at the state of this fish. Waitresses faces were like a babies slapped side. Go next door to max's place.

Amazing food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere. We visited on a very busy evening however this didn’t effect the service or quality. We had some specials from the menu as well as options from the menu and thoroughly enjoyed!

I've been to this restaurant a number of times for pre-theatre lunch and myself and my companions have never had a bad meal. The staff have always been friendly and the owner who is also the chef makes a point of coming out to speak to his customers, a lovely touch. However, I'm slightly confused on some portion sizes. When a dish of risotto was served it looked like a starter portion, compared to the size of the spaghetti carbonara which was more than generous. Isn't rice as cheap as pasta? I do not consider desserts all priced at £11 a fair deal. I might expect to pay that price at an evening meal in a top end restaurant but feel it's over the top for this place at lunch time and I'm sure if they were priced more competitively they would sell more. Some people on these reviews have criticised the included service charge but I'm going to defend them here. On the bill it clearly says "Optional Service Charge" so it's up to the individual to choose to pay it or reduce it. Not adding a tip, unless the food or service was very bad should be unthinkable in our restaurant culture.

Great little independent restaurant! Good service and good food. Perfect place for a pre theatre meal, although small it has a great atmosphere and the staff are very attentive. Good selection of wines, nice fresh ingredients and overall a nice experience.

Went on Valentine’s Day, the atmosphere was very romantic and intimate, the food was incredible. 10/10 recommend the seafood linguine and tiramisu.

I went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday, we came here with expectations. The steaks were alright, but the risotto, the rice wasn’t even well-cooked. Still raw inside. Apart from that, the most disappointing part was the service, we didn’t expect to get such an awful service from a restaurant which we put so much expectation in. As a customer, I can barely agree that serving with no smile face on and impatience really mean “service”. But it’s weird that we have seen that other tables were served with a totally different attitude. And when it comes to the bill payment, we asked to take the service fee away, the manager came out and say: “ the service fee was optional, but not anymore.” Even it says on the menu that it’s optional, I have no clue why can that be easily changed as a customer. She said it’s impossible, and if you don’t pay the service fee, don’t come back again. I was shocked by the attitude how this restaurant works. Horrible experiences.

Booked here for 19 of us to celebrate my daughter’s upcoming wedding. The booking process was so easy. I booked 6 months in advance. The welcome when we arrived was wonderful. The front of house team were brilliant, they couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you. The food was delicious. Hot and cooked to order. Dietary requirements were catered for. The whole experience was fantastic. Service, food and ambience of the restaurant made a special day extra special. I’d wholly recommend this gem of a restaurant. A huge thank you and shout out to all of the staff.

Four of us enjoyed a pre- theatre meal here. The food is relatively expensive for a provincial Italian restaurant but the quality is much higher than most. A lot of thought has gone into the decor which is very seductive. The ambience is superb. Lovely to see crisp white table cloths bedecked with spotless tableware. The attentive service is just right. A gem of a restaurant to which we hope to return

I rarely write reviews but feel this place deserves all the credit! Had possibly the best carbonara this evening I’ve ever had and the service was perfect from start to finish. Would highly recommend this cosy , authentic great atmosphered restaurant. Can’t believe I haven’t been here before ! thanks again

I’ve been here a few times with my family, it’s an absolutely lovely place. Amazing food and service! They went above and beyond to accommodate my Grandma who is disabled. I reckoned very much !!

I was looking for a place to eat before visiting the Mayflower Theatre and came across Soleto. From start to finish, I was well looked after by the fantastic team of waiters and waitresses, and the ribeye steak was absolutely incredible. The restaurant had an intimate atmosphere which only added to the very enjoyable experience. I will definitely be returning and I recommend this to anyone looking for good Italian cuisine in the area.

Cosy atmosphere, extremely welcoming and friendly staff. The owner also doubled as head chef and can be very proud of the meals he presented. Fantastic evening.

Wish I could give this restaurant 6 stars ⭐ as its worth it.As soon as we walked in we could tell there was something very special about the place with very relaxing jazz background music adding to the ambiance.We had 3 courses and a lovely bottle of wine for just over £100 which was well worth the money.The best food we've had for a long time and super efficient waitress who knew exactly what she was doing. Nice touch was towards the end of the meal the chef came over for a chat.The place was packed full which says it all.Cant wait to do a return visit 😋

Great authentic Italian Bistro, excellent food nice ambiance, really handy for the Mayflower theatre but also a superb restaurant for any occasion, Peroni on draught. Nice selection of wines. Toilets very clean.

It is cosy! Some lovely specials. The shellfish starters were in tasty sauces but somewhat overdone. Nice sharing starters
